I want to be a nurse practitioner. I do have a side career as a singer/songwriter. I am one out of nine kids, and I am currently on track to be the first one to get a bachelor's degree. There are not a lot of LGBTQIA+ healthcare workers because they are involved with the general public and when it comes to health, cisgender heteronormative people don't take to kindly to those that aren't exactly like them. I currently have a degree in Medical Assisting, and my mother is a nurse as well as a clinical manager in California. I come from a family that is divided, and my mom has taught me all that I know when it comes to being nicer to people. My stepfather served in the Navy for 20 years, and the biggest thing that I learned from him was that of discipline and accountability. My mom had it ingrained in me that if you want something, you will have to do everything in your power to get it because nobody in this world will help you as much as you can help yourself. It is about knowing that I matter and that my vision matters. I would love to find a way to be able to speak to the general public and have them realize that those of us that belong to the LGBTQIA+ community are not trying to do anything against them. We love and care for others, as it is part of nursing. Being a nurse is to "Do no harm", so I would love to advocate for that and pioneer this into something much bigger than myself.
