Growing up in Americus, Georgia, I witnessed how a lack of educational support, mentorship, and positive role models can affect young people. While many students have the potential to accomplish incredible things, not all of them have someone who consistently encourages them to believe in themselves or pushes them to reach their goals. I want to help change that. My goal is to become an elementary school educator and a leader who inspires, empowers, and advocates for children. I believe every child deserves a safe, supportive environment where they feel valued, capable, and motivated to succeed regardless of their background or circumstances. This issue matters to me because I understand how important encouragement and guidance are during a child’s early years. A teacher has the power to shape not only a student’s academic success but also their confidence, character, and outlook on life. I want to be the kind of teacher who students remember because I believed in them when they struggled, celebrated their accomplishments, and reminded them that they were capable of achieving great things. I believe education is one of the most powerful ways to break barriers, create opportunities, and strengthen communities. My experiences have shaped my desire to serve others through education. Working in customer service has taught me the importance of patience, communication, empathy, and building relationships with people from different backgrounds. It has reinforced my belief that every individual deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. These experiences, combined with my passion for helping children, confirmed that education is the career where I can make the greatest impact. As an Elementary Education major, I am preparing myself to become the educator I aspire to be. My coursework has strengthened my understanding of child development, effective teaching strategies, and the importance of creating inclusive classrooms where every student has the opportunity to succeed. Beyond teaching academics, I want to encourage students to develop confidence, resilience, leadership, and a love for learning that lasts throughout their lives. Although I am still working toward my degree, I am already taking steps to prepare for this responsibility by developing the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to become an effective educator. I plan to continue serving my community through mentoring opportunities, school involvement, and educational outreach whenever possible. My long-term goal is to become a teacher who builds meaningful relationships with students and families while helping create opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. To me, servant leadership means putting the needs of others before your own and using your abilities to help others grow and succeed. A servant leader listens, encourages, supports, and leads by example rather than seeking recognition. I hope to embody servant leadership by creating classrooms built on trust, respect, compassion, and high expectations. I want every student to know they are seen, heard, and capable of achieving their dreams. Receiving the Hatcher-Dollarson Legacy Scholarship would allow me to continue pursuing my education while preparing for a career dedicated to serving others. My goal is not simply to teach lessons from a textbook but to leave a lasting impact on the lives of young people. By investing in children today, I hope to help develop future leaders who will continue creating positive change in our communities for generations to come.
