The ever-changing world around me has not swayed my career choice, in fact, it has only
made me even more determined to fulfill my dream to become a nurse. While the landscape of healthcare has certainly undergone significant shifts in recent years, I firmly believe that nursing and related medical professions remain crucial.
The COVID-19 pandemic elevated my appreciation of nursing as a career choice. I have seen firsthand the important role that nurses played in responding to this public health crisis, watching as they treated my family all of whom were stricken by Covid 19. I am even more committed and proud to work to become a part of that tradition in the future.
Additionally, the growing emphasis on preventative care and patient education has put
nursing in the position as the first line of defense for families around the world. The
emphasis on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and recognizing the importance of
preventative medicine has moved nursing to the forefront and made nursing an even
more crucial profession. As nurses usually provide the first line of contact with patients,
they are tasked monitoring each patient and with providing important information they
need to successfully manage their own health allowing the patient to get the specific care
they require.
The ever-changing demographics of our country continue to create new challenges and opportunities for nurses. An aging population has led to increased demand for skilled geriatric nursing care, particularly in long-term care facilities and hospice settings. I am passionate about
providing compassionate assistance to older adults, and ensuring they receive the support they need to live out their life as independently and comfortably as possible.
I am aware that healthcare is not immune to change, but I believe it is essential to adapt to
new technologies, treatments, and policies that shape the industry, always keeping the
patient’s health is paramount. Although I know that there will be challenges and emotional ups and downs in any career choice, my passion for nursing has kept me motivated and laser-focused on my long-term goal, to be the best nurse I can be.
The world around us is constantly changing, and the field of nursing is changing along
with it. However, I believe that the core values and mission of nursing remain constant.
Providing what has become known as holistic care, and supporting patients' physical and
emotional well-being are my goal. I know that a career in nursing is the right career choice for me, no matter what the future may bring. Thank you for the chance to read my story and the opportunity to apply for the Trinity Lodge 127 PH Scott Heckstall Scholarship.

Ruth Hazel Scruggs King Scholarship
I strive to project positivity to those around me. Every day I make a conscious effort to spread positivity by being kind to everyone I come in contact with and being supportive and encouraging to those in need. Whether it be a compliment, positive gesture, or just a simple smile, hello how are you, small acts along with larger efforts in kindness can make a significant positive difference in someone's life.
In addition to being positive, I always try to give 100% of myself in all I do. Whether it is in my academics, extracurricular activities, my job, or personal relationships, I believe in putting my best foot forward and giving my all. Due to my efforts and these life skills, I have now reached the next step in my maturity, I have now been accepted into The Nursing Program at Adelphi University. Recognizing that a core value of mine is leading a life of kindness, I credit that effort to a major part of my success. I believe that kindness is not just about being nice to others but also about creating a ripple effect of positivity that can potentially change the world. By leading a life of kindness, I hope to inspire others to treat each other with respect, empathy, and understanding. I believe that by doing so, we can create a world where everyone feels valued, supported, and loved, and always pay it forward.
I am also a curious-minded person who is eager to learn new things and explore new opportunities. I believe that curiosity is essential to personal growth and development. It has allowed me to pursue my interests and passions. Due to my passion for swimming, I have pursued certifications in lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, AED, and swim instructor. As an adventure-driven person, I am consistently seeking new opportunities to challenge myself and step outside of my comfort zone. My enthusiasm for life is contagious and I love sharing my passion with others. As a lifeguard and swim instructor at the YMCA, I share my love for swimming. I taught an 80-year-old woman who was deathly afraid of the water to swim. She is now able to swim laps freestyle, on her own.
That same enthusiasm has led me to pursue my passion of becoming a nurse, to continue giving back by caring for the sick and advocating for them and their families. One day I just may take the next step and go on to be a nurse practitioner but it remains a distant dream.
I believe that my commitment to spreading positivity, giving my all, leading a life of kindness, and being curious-minded and adventure-driven makes me a strong candidate for the Ruth Hazel Scruggs King Scholarship Award. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story. I am thankful and appreciative to be considered for your scholarship, which would help with the growing loans I will need to further my education. I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on the world.

Dashanna K. McNeil Memorial Scholarship
It has long been a desire of mine to continue my education and attend university, but until recently that desire was unfocused and seemed a distant dream, until the Covid-19 pandemic. Having watched with both fear and admiration as the nurses, doctors, and first responders selflessly step up and risk their own health and life to help people they did not know inspired me to follow in their footsteps. Financially it will be a challenge, but I am now more determined than ever to find a way to pursue my education in the nursing profession despite the financial challenges that come with it. Receiving this scholarship would greatly help ease my financial burden and allow me to focus on my academic pursuits. I believe I am a deserving candidate for this scholarship for several reasons.
Firstly, I take my education very seriously and have consistently demonstrated academic excellence throughout my high school years. Maintaining a high GPA while juggling extracurricular activities has taught me discipline and time management skills that will serve me well in college. I am passionate about learning and always seek to challenge myself. With this scholarship, I will continue to push myself intellectually without the added stress of worrying about my financial situation.
As noted above, I am committed to making a difference in the lives of others. I have always had an interest in the medical field, but since the Covid-19 pandemic, I have admired the heroic efforts of our nurses, who on the front line not only took care of the sick but also advocated for them and their families. These men and women have given me a sense of purpose and immediately I understood what a positive difference I can make in the lives of my patients.
Equally as important is my understanding of the value of hard work and perseverance. I am grateful for the sacrifices my parents have made to provide for me all these years, and I want to show them that their hard work has not gone to waste. Receiving a scholarship would not only be a personal accomplishment but also a testament to my family’s resilience and determination.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that I am a deserving recipient of the Dashanna K. McNeil Memorial Scholarship. With it I can continue striving for academic excellence, giving back to my community, honoring my family’s sacrifices, and reach my dreams of becoming a Registered Nurse. Thank you for considering me for your generous scholarship.

I believe that my commitment to spreading positivity, giving my all, leading a life of kindness, and being curious-minded and adventure-driven makes me a strong candidate for the Viola Natural Lifestyle Scholarship. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story. I am thankful and appreciative to be considered for your scholarship, which would help with the growing loans I will need to further my education. I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on the world.
