I believe that with my familiarity and passion for improving healthcare quality and access, disease prevention for my community will help me exceed my expectations and shape my future in nursing, as it will allow me to connect, sympathize, and understand my patients' needs from various social determinants of health and provide the best quality of care that some of them are unable to get. I wish to bring my years of experience, training, education, and dedication to my nursing studies to help build healthier communities by dedicating my work to those who can’t pay and don’t have access to care. Thus far, with the help of your scholarship program, I will be able to focus on continuing my studies full-time with my tuition covered. I look forward to studying hard to continue my journey as a nurse with a community and public health background to improve the health outcomes for all in the community.

As a child, I’ve always had a passion for the well-being of others. I grew up serving my grandfather's food, preparing his blood pressure medication, taking him to the doctor, and assisting him with his well-being as needed while growing up in the countryside of Haiti. The pattern went on for other family members as they relied on me to translate medical matters and appointments for them while living here in the USA. This has become the norm for me in my household, and I have enjoyed every bit of assisting my parents with maintaining their health because I truly care for them. Most of my family members are home health aide workers. They are very caring, giving, loving, and selfless individuals who have inspired my passion and been a driving force in my decision to pursue nursing as a career. Thus far, I have developed the humility to serve others by caring for them closely for their well-being, which is a calling that brings happiness and satisfaction. After surviving an earthquake back in 2010 in Haiti and being exposed to the infrastructure around me and seeing myself and others struggling, it has led me to serve my community to advocate for changes and become a nurse so that they to get quality health care, as I am myself a survivor. This has paved the way for my dream to become a nurse. Thus far, I would be glad and grateful for your contribution to my getting an exceptional nursing education that will prepare me to deliver outstanding healthcare to meet society’s need for caring, knowledgeable, and skilled nursing professionals. Over the past few years, I have been involved in numerous projects and events in terms of public health, advocacy for maternal disparities, community health education, disease prevention, health promotion, nursing education, and clinical practice. Additionally, I am a member of the Haitian Nurses Network Inc., where the focus is to strengthen our communities by creating various initiative projects that help the community develop to combat health disparities and advocate for health equity and providing health education and disease prevention by providing access to preventative health screening (mammogram screening) for underserved, underdeveloped, and minority residents locally and abroad to decrease health inequities in the underserved communities. I participated at the start of the Haitian Women Birth Equity Educational Initiative with the Life of Hope Center in Brooklyn to improve maternal health outcomes for Haitian-born women who migrated to New York with English as a language barrier for them and with limited support as many of them crossed the U.S. and Mexican border to migrate from various South American countries while pregnant on the road (such as Chile, Brazil, and Mexico) over the past 3 years. The program’s focus is to provide culturally tailored educational programs and increase access to prenatal care, postpartum services, various group-support workshops for parents, referrals to doula services, health services, and community baby showers to support parents with baby supplies and decrease maternal morbidity.
