Phil Murphy Technical Theater Scholarship
The theater is a place where imagination and creativity come together to create engaging experiences for viewers. I am drawn to the complex art of set design in this dynamic environment because it is a field in which the enchantment of storytelling is not only observed but also manifested through physical construction. My desire to create immersive environments that enhance the story and bring the playwright's words to life in a visual symphony is what drove me to pursue a career in set design.
Set design is the art of creating moods and ambiances that bring a play to life, not only building actual spaces. This field's attraction is its multidisciplinary aspect, which calls for a skillful fusion of technical mastery, artistic flare, and a keen sense of narrative. As a set designer, I regard myself as a storyteller who paints with three-dimensional components. Every set is a canvas upon which the narrative unfolds.
The chance it offers to work with a broad team of creatives is one of the main reasons I am drawn to set design. Theater is a collaborative art form, requiring a synergy of ideas from its directors, lighting designers, costume designers, and set designers to guarantee a visual narrative that flows together. When the last curtain falls, this collaborative atmosphere not only enhances the creative process but also cultivates a sense of shared accomplishment.
I can converse with the screenplay through set design, understanding its subtleties and bringing them to life in physical settings. The process entails a methodical examination of historical backgrounds, cultural influences, and thematic components in order to design sets that not only enhance the story but also act as silent participants in the drama that is being played out. The dynamic and intellectually exciting nature of set design stems from the difficulty of striking a balance between practicality and beauty.
In addition, the transient aspect of theater infuses energy into set design. Theater sets, in contrast to permanent installations, are temporary; they exist only as long as a play is being performed. This transience gives every brushstroke, material selection, and structural decision a feeling of urgency and commitment. It is evidence of the fleeting beauty of the arts and their capacity to profoundly influence a crowd.
To sum up, I am driven to pursue set design because I have a strong love for storytelling, a strong desire to work with others, and an admiration for the fleeting beauty of theater. In my role as set designer, I hope to add to the magic that takes place on stage by creating imaginary worlds that captivate audiences. The idea of creating settings that arouse feelings, stimulate thought, and improve the theatrical experience in its whole is what draws me to this fascinating and dynamic industry. I perceive a calling in the field of set design, one that involves protecting the visual narrative and incorporating artistic elements into the elaborate theatrical fabric, rather than merely a job. Thank you Duke Core for funding this scholarship. I appreciate the opportunity to apply, and I am grateful for the time you've taken to read my application.
Nell’s Will Scholarship
For me, getting this scholarship help would be really important because it would be a financial boost as well as confirmation that I can overcome obstacles and achieve my goals in life. The scholarship would be essential to my academic progress since it would enable me to follow my goals and have a long-lasting influence on the lives of underprivileged people. In addition, it would help me overcome my challenges and would advance me toward a time when I can give back by building havens for the underprivileged.
As a student who hopes to positively influence many communities, the scholarship would allow me the ability to carry on with my studies without having to worry about running out of money. It would enable me to devote all of my attention to my coursework, extracurricular pursuits, and community service projects, allowing me to optimize the advantages of my education.
Having had financial hardships in the past, receiving the scholarship would mean more than simply money support—it would be an acknowledgement of my commitment and fortitude. It would serve as evidence for the idea that someone can overcome obstacles and pave the way for a better future if they are determined enough.
It acts as a catalyst for my aspirations to come true, especially when it comes to establishing safe spaces for underprivileged and varied communities. In my ideal world, there would be homeless shelters, resources for LGBTQ people, teens, and kids, and animal sanctuaries housing dogs, cats, wolves, wolfdogs, and horses. In addition, I want to provide areas for foster youth, foster parents, and addicts.
For me, giving back is actively assisting in the fulfillment of these goals through the use of the education I obtain. I want to use the degree I get to start and oversee programs that cater to the particular requirements of every community I want to help. The scholarship turns becomes an investment in both my own development and the general welfare of the people I hope to serve. I hope to bring about constructive change that affects entire communities by cultivating settings that are empathetic, understanding, and supportive.
Throughout my journey, I have faced hurdles like poverty and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Having grown up in a low-income household, I have had to deal with the challenges of a demanding education on a shoestring. Nonetheless, these difficulties have given me resiliency and the will to overcome obstacles. The scholarship would be a symbol of overcoming the hardships of poverty, providing a way to end the cycle and open doors for upcoming generations.
Living with PCOS has been a personal struggle that has required juggling academic goals and health concerns in a careful way. I have persevered in the face of medical obstacles, determined not to let my health difficulties stand in the way of my academic goals. Through its financial support, this fellowship emphasizes the perseverance needed to handle personal health issues while seeking academic greatness, in addition to addressing the urgent financial challenges.
Being awarded this scholarship would mark a significant and revolutionary turning point in my educational career. It's an investment in my education, but it's also an investment in the ambitions I have for improving underprivileged communities. My journey has been shaped by health issues and poverty, but with this scholarship, I am ready to get over these obstacles and create a future where I can give back by leading meaningful projects that improve the lives of people who are less fortunate. Thank you Nell's Treasures for funding this scholarship. I am grateful for the time you've taken to read my application.
Mental Health Empowerment Scholarship
Mental health is a cornerstone of my student experience, intricately woven into the fabric of my academic journey and personal well-being. It holds paramount importance to me as a student because I recognize that a healthy mind is fundamental to academic success, personal growth, and overall happiness. Beyond my own experiences, advocating for mental health in my community, particularly within my family, as I witness the profound impact of severe anxiety on my brother's life.
As a student, I am aware that good mental health is essential to academic success and learning, not just a luxury. A healthy mental state improves one's capacity for focus, concentration, and overcoming obstacles in the classroom and on tests. Additionally, it supports a healthy and supportive learning environment that promotes wellbeing and is favorable to both academic and personal success.
Seeing my brother struggle with extreme anxiety gives me a personal reason to advocate for mental health in my community. His anxiety is not limited to the usual pressures of school life; it also takes the form of a crippling fear of public spaces, crowds, and social situations. His anxiousness is so bad that it frequently causes physical symptoms, like vomiting, which makes his problems even worse.
Knowing how serious my brother's problems are, I have started to speak up in my family's support of mental health awareness and services. I try to foster a kind, understanding, and judgment-free atmosphere. This entails promoting candid dialogue about mental health, dismantling stigmas, and motivating people to seek professional assistance when necessary.
I place a strong emphasis on the value of recognizing and validating mental health problems in our family discussions. My contribution to breaking down the walls that frequently envelop conversations about mental health is to establish a safe space where my brother feels heard and understood. As a result, my brother feels more accepted and is inspired to talk about his experiences, which helps everyone comprehend the difficulties he faces.
I actively look for tools and data to educate my family and myself on anxiety disorders. Acquiring knowledge can effectively eliminate misunderstandings and foster compassion. By staying informed, I can help our family take a more knowledgeable and caring approach to mental health by being better able to provide support and encouragement.
Along with promoting mental wellness, I work to de-stigmatize getting professional assistance. A crucial aspect of our journey has been motivating my brother to seek help from mental health specialists, such as therapists or counselors. I want to be clear that asking for assistance is a proactive move toward improved mental health and a show of strength. My objective is to advance a culture that recognizes mental health treatment as a crucial aspect of total wellbeing through this campaigning. My goal is to increase empathy in the community and humanize the difficulties related to extreme anxiety by telling my brother's story in appropriate settings.
Ultimately, mental health plays a critical role in my academic experience, and I advocate for mental health beyond my own needs in order to help my brother who suffers from severe anxiety. I work to build a community that values and prioritizes mental health by open communication, education, and a dedication to eradicating stigmas. My experience as an advocate is a reflection of my own dedication as well as my participation to a larger movement that aims to increase empathy, understanding, and support for mental health within my family and school. Thank you Learner for funding this scholarship. I appreciate the opportunity to apply, and I am grateful for the time you've taken to read my application.

As an immigrant family's college-bound kid, my journey takes place against a backdrop of tenacity, willpower, and the pursuit of the American Dream. My family moved across countries and seas in quest of greater possibilities, so I was raised to value education from an early age. This journey is more than simply a personal project; it is evidence of my family's sacrifices and my conviction in the transformational potential of education.
As a first-generation college student, navigating the educational system is not without its difficulties. It can be intimidating to navigate the complexities of college applications, financial aid procedures, and the academic landscape in general, particularly when one is going somewhere new. But my immigrant heritage's tenacity has been a driving factor, encouraging me to keep going in my quest for a higher education that could lead to a better future.
My story is shaped by my experiences, and it inspires me to work toward changing the world for the better. It is more than just a backdrop to my journey. In my opinion, education is a potent instrument for bringing about change and ending the cycles of hardship, in addition to being a method of achieving personal growth. I see going to college as a chance to make a significant contribution to society at large in addition to having the ability to control my own fate.
The tale of my immigrant family is one of resiliency and hope, and it is a continuous reminder of the transformational potential of education. I approach my experience as a college student with a great feeling of responsibility because I know this. In addition to obtaining an education for myself, I am also striving to fulfill the goals of my community and family.
In addition, completing my degree is a first step toward changing the world for the better. Equipped with expertise, abilities, and an international viewpoint, my goal is to tackle urgent problems and make a contribution to cross-border resolutions. Whether it's via activism, community outreach initiatives, or the use of technology for social good, I see my degree as a vehicle for bringing about significant change.

I want to actively interact with people from different backgrounds in college so that I can add to the diverse range of viewpoints and experiences. I want to encourage harmony and cooperation by creating an inclusive atmosphere, which will perhaps pave the way for constructive change.
In conclusion, my experience as an immigrant family's college-bound student is a tale of tenacity, resiliency, and the quest for a better future. Redefining Victory Scholarship
Success, to me, embodies a multifaceted vision that extends far beyond personal achievements. It is a tapestry woven with the threads of familial bonds, the ability to provide support to loved ones, and the realization of dreams that transcend the individual realm. Within this intricate vision of success lies my aspiration to create havens for those often marginalized and overlooked in society—places dedicated to homeless individuals, LGBTQ adults, teens, and children, as well as a sanctuary for animals, including dogs, cats, wolves, wolfdogs, and horses. Additionally, my dream encompasses providing support for foster teens and children and those grappling with addiction. This vision is not merely a personal triumph but a commitment to fostering positive change in the lives of others.
For me, family and friends' warmth and support are fundamental components of success. The strands of mutual understanding, shared humor, and enduring relationships make up the tapestry of my achievement. One of the main tenets of my concept of success is being around by people I love, sharing in their happiness and grief, and making a positive, caring environment. This opportunity is crucial to my success because it gives me the tools to create a foundation that supports not just my goals but also the pleasure and well-being of people who are closest to me.
But my idea of success goes beyond the realm of the individual and the family. It includes a dedication to improving the lives of people dealing with hardship and obstacles. Creating safe spaces for the homeless, particularly LGBTQ adults, youth, and children, is a dream that demonstrates a commitment to compassion and inclusivity. It is about giving people a place to live, but it's also about creating a community that encourages self-determination, acceptance, and life reconstruction. This opportunity, which provides the means and forum to start bringing about good change in the lives of those who are frequently marginalized in society, is essential to making this ambition a reality.
My desire is to establish animal sanctuaries for dogs, cats, wolves, wolfdogs, and horses. This dream is in line with my philosophy that all living things are interconnected. In this sense, one's capacity to provide support and safety to others unable to advocate for themselves is what defines success. The current opportunity will enable the establishment and maintenance of these havens, ensuring the happiness and well-being of both human and animal occupants.
Success also involves giving foster children and teens, as well as those struggling with addiction, comfort and support. Establishing areas that provide direction, comprehension, and a feeling of inclusion is a crucial aspect of the wider success vision. This is a chance to put programs and initiatives in place that cater to the special requirements of these communities, helping them to become resilient and move toward better futures.
To sum up, I see success as a complex fabric made of strands of family, support, and the achievement of goals that go beyond one's own borders. This opportunity is a critical step in realizing this vision because it gives me the ability to improve the lives of the people I care about and those who are most in need of it. It's a chance to make dreams come true and make a significant contribution to a society where success is determined not only by one's own achievements but also by the good deeds one does for others. Thank you Chris & Mary Carnduff for funding this scholarship. I appreciate the opportunity to apply, and I am grateful for the time you've taken to read my application.

Its smooth interaction with other Creative Cloud apps and animation tools allows for a comprehensive method of using motion graphics to express stories. My ability to effortlessly integrate animation with other design aspects allows me to create visually compelling storylines thanks to Premiere Pro's tremendous editing capabilities.
With a focus on animation, the specialist field of digital design has shown the Adobe Creative Cloud to be an invaluable resource. These tools' dynamic qualities enable the production of visually spectacular animations while also offering a strong foundation for exploration and creativity. Thanks to the Creative Cloud's adaptability, my animation projects always have access to a wide range of tools, from concept to finished, polished product.
Language is essential for communicating ideas and concepts in digital design and animation, in addition to the visual elements. Based on the GPT-3.5 architecture, ChatGPT serves as an adaptable conversational partner that helps me clarify and improve my ideas when discussing animation. ChatGPT offers helpful insights and ideas for creative research, whether you're brainstorming character development or investigating narrative frameworks.
My linguistic toolset has been enhanced by QuillBot, a paraphrase tool that provides me with alternate ways to describe concepts. Thank you Learner for funding this scholarship. I appreciate the opportunity to apply, and I am grateful for the time you've taken to read my application.
Trever David Clark Memorial Scholarship
My beliefs, relationships, and job aspirations have all been significantly impacted by my mostly poor experience with the mental health system. I first had bad encounters with the mental health sector when I went for treatment for my depression and anxiety. My first interaction with a mental health professional left me feeling rejected and disregarded, even though I knew I needed help. My therapist seemed hurried and uninterested in my issues, providing me with a general coping mechanism that did little to meet my particular requirements. I decided to stop therapy because I felt so frustrated and despondent after this first meeting. Sadly, things did not get much better after that. When I eventually plucked up the nerve to ask for assistance once more, I had a difficult time locating an available therapist. There were many people on waiting lists and few appointments available. It looked like the mental health system was overworked and understaffed, which made me even more anxious. My insurance problems added another degree of frustration. Navigating the intricate and often perplexing insurance procedure was a task in and of itself. I had difficulty getting my treatment reimbursed, and the exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses discouraged me from pursuing consistent therapy.
These unpleasant experiences have had a huge impact on my mental health ideas. I now have a strong cynicism regarding the effectiveness of the mental health industry. I believe that the system is fundamentally faulty, frequently inaccessible, and fails to give enough support to individuals in need. My experiences have confirmed my conviction that the sector is predominantly profit-driven, with an emphasis on quick solutions rather than holistic care. My disappointment has caused me to reconsider the value of receiving professional care for mental health difficulties. I've grown increasingly suspicious of the usefulness of therapy and drugs, which can be detrimental to my health. The unpleasant experiences have instilled doubt and cynicism in me, making it difficult for me to completely trust and connect with mental health specialists.
My unpleasant interactions with the mental health business have also had an impact on my relationships. I've been more hesitant to communicate my mental health problems with friends and family. My previous experiences with seeking assistance and being disappointed have made me afraid to bother my loved ones with her troubles. Because my loved ones are unaware of my difficulties, my unwillingness to open up about them has strained some of my relationships. My pessimism about the efficacy of treatment has made me less inclined to recommend my friends and family to get professional help if they are experiencing mental health problems. I am concerned that they may experience the same setbacks that I had, and this concern has hampered my capacity to be a supportive friend and family member when it comes to mental health.
I'm now looking into job options that involve using art to raise awareness and advocate for mental health reform. I've become passionate about addressing the industry's systemic concerns, including accessibility, affordability, and quality of care. I want to help improve the mental health system by pushing for policy and practice changes. Finally, my unfavorable experiences with the mental health sector have had a huge impact on my values, relationships, and job goals. These experiences have left me disillusioned and doubtful of the efficacy of mental health care, influencing both my willingness to seek help and my capacity to support others. My bad experiences have encouraged me to pursue a profession committed to mental health reform, with an emphasis on tackling systemic issues and pushing for change within the sector through the use of art.
Will Johnson Scholarship
Life with ADHD and dyslexia has been an adventure filled with challenges, tenacity, and unflinching perseverance. These trials have challenged my patience and perseverance, but they have also formed me into the person I am today, forcing me to face obstacles that I might have avoided otherwise. My limitations, I feel, do not define me; rather, they have ignited a fire within me to prove that with determination and adaptation, I can overcome any hardship.
Grand Canyon University has always been my first choice for higher education. This decision is more than just an academic pursuit; it is a personal commitment to win over my disabilities and attain brilliance. I am determined to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Design with a focus on animation. This field allows me to use my creative abilities while also utilizing technology to make my thoughts a reality. The digital arena beckons with chances for creativity and expression, and I am excited to delve in headfirst.
Looking ahead, my goals include becoming an art director or working in the arts in some capacity. My ambition is to make environments that allow me to combine my artistic ability with my leadership qualities. As an art director, I see myself leading teams to create visually stunning works that engage and inspire. My ambitions stem from my fervent belief that art can break down barriers and connect people from all generations.
However, my ambitions, do not stop at professional success. I aspire to use my achievements to make a significant difference in the lives of people who are not as fortunate. My dream is to proved safe havens for foster children and teens, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and homeless people. I want to give them places where they can find refuge, experience love, and get the help they need and deserve. I intend to pour the earnings from my future profession into establishing these sanctuaries of hope through my effort and dedication.
Furthermore, as a person with ADHD and dyslexia, my life has been marked by conquering barriers, pushing boundaries, and embracing my unique skills. I am determined to further my education at Grand Canyon University, where I will develop my skills in digital design and animation. My ultimate objective is to advance to a position of leadership in the art world while also using my achievements to provide safe spaces for individuals who have endured adversity. My disabilities are not restrictions, but rather stepping stones on the path to a future in which I can contribute to constructive change in the world one brushstroke at a time. Thank you Open Doors TN for funding this scholarship and thank you for taking the time to review and consider my application.
Academic Liberty & Free Speech Scholarship
As a female college student with a passion for psychology, I believe that free expression is essential for American college students' intellectual and personal development. We grow intellectually, nurture a variety of thoughts, and cultivate critical thinking abilities through the unrestricted interchange of ideas. The preservation of this fundamental right is critical not just for individual development but also for the advancement of a vibrant, democratic society.
Free speech allows American college students to delve into a diverse range of viewpoints, challenging our assumptions and extending our horizons. It motivates us to have meaningful interactions with peers from varied backgrounds, which leads to a better knowledge of various situations. I believe that being exposed to various viewpoints improves cognitive flexibility, a crucial quality of critical thinking that enables us to adapt our viewpoints in response to fresh information.
Additionally, freedom of speech allows us to hone the skill of constructive dialogue. When we communicate our opinions honestly, we learn the value of actively listening, respecting opposing viewpoints, and seeking common ground. This increases empathy and excellent communication skills, both of which are necessary in both personal and professional settings. These abilities are developed through the vigorous interchange of ideas on college campuses.
The freedom of free expression must be protected because it protects the democratic values on which our country was founded. College campuses serve as creativity incubators, allowing students to challenge the status quo whilst contributing to beneficial societal change. Free speech acts as a catalyst for marginalized voices, which allows underrepresented communities to organize campaigns for equality and justice.
Diverse viewpoints are critical in psychology, my chosen topic study. Psychological theories and practices are always changing, and being exposed to many points of view broadens our understanding of human behavior. Psychology students like me engage in discussions that challenge conventional thought and foster critical thinking by supporting free speech. This not only improves our education but also trains us to apply psychological principles ethically and effectively in a variety of circumstances.
My university's psychology club shows how extracurricular activities may promote a variety of thought and critical thinking while protecting free expression on campus. Our group holds frequent debates and panel discussions on contentious psychological themes, encouraging students to freely voice their viewpoints while remaining open to counterarguments. These gatherings provide an environment in which respectful conversation flourishes, allowing us to investigate the gray areas of psychology and develop well-rounded opinions.
Finally, freedom of speech is critical to the intellectual and personal development of all American students. I recognize that embracing multiple ideas and practicing critical thinking abilities are crucial to my field of study. We safeguard the spirit of free speech and foster a place where our voices can bloom fully by engaging in open conversation both inside and outside the classroom. The freedom to share our thoughts, just as our country's founders envisioned, not only gives us personal power but also paves the way for a better, more inclusive society. Thank you Gregory Price for funding this scholarship and thank you for taking the time to review and consider my application.
Operation 11 Tyler Schaeffer Memorial Scholarship
I've been intensely aware of the difficulties that marginalized people endure in our culture since I was a child. My motivation for pursuing a career in social work derives from a personal incident that has forever changed my outlook. Witnessing the heartbreaking consequences of a beloved friend's mistreatment in the foster care system has instilled in me an unbreakable desire to be an agent of change, providing solace, support, and a voice to those that have been silenced.
My friend's experience served as a sharp reminder of our foster care system's structural faults. The ruthless bureaucracy that let her down left indelible wounds on her spirit, and I was determined not to let her experience go to waste. With a degree in social work, I see myself as a light of hope for people who, like my friend, have been denied the compassion and empathy they require.
To me, social work is a vocation with built-in empathy and unshakable commitment, not merely a profession. My degree will provide me with the information and abilities I need to handle the many issues that underserved areas face. My schooling will provide me with knowledge of counseling approaches, policy lobbying, and community organizing, all of which are important instruments for creating significant change.
One of my key objectives is to fight for policy changes in the foster care system. I wish to cooperate with like-minded individuals and organizations to raise awareness about the systemic challenges afflicting the system by leveraging my expertise. Through grassroots projects and advocacy campaigns, I hope to bring attention to the critical need for fundamental reform and to ensure that no kid feels abandoned and mistreated inside the system that is supposed to protect them.
Furthermore, I hope to create support networks for young adults who have aged out of the foster care system. The journey into adulthood is difficult for everyone, but it can be extremely difficult for individuals who have been let down by the system. With my degree, I hope to establish mentorship programs, vocational training, and mental health resources to provide these young adults with the tools and resources they need to live successful lives.
My experiences have taught me that healing begins when we refuse to remain silent in the face of injustice. Social work is not for the faint of heart; it necessitates a deep reservoir of empathy, resilience, and unwavering confidence in the power of good change. My dedication to this field is unshakeable, motivated by a genuine desire to provide a voice for those who have been silenced and a source of hope for those who have lost hope.
Finally, my interest in social work is motivated by a strong empathy for those who have been abused and oppressed. My friend's ordeals in the foster care system have fueled my ambition to make the world a more just and caring place. With my degree, I am prepared to become a policy reform champion, a supporter of vulnerable youngsters, and a change agent in underserved communities. Every stride I take in this sector will be a monument to the human spirit's tenacity and a reminder that compassion and commitment can improve lives even in the face of tragedy. Thank you for taking the time to review and consider my application.
Godi Arts Scholarship
Arts education weaved a bright tapestry across the fabric of my life as I grew up, leaving an unforgettable mark on my artistic journey. My older cousins sparked my interest in pursuing a profession in the artistic fields of painting, sketching, sculpting, or graphic design. As a small girl, I would stand there in awe as they easily sketched and created magnificent pieces of art. Their dedication and passion amazed me significantly, and I aspired to follow in their footsteps.
Their unfailing support and encouragement served as a guiding beacon for me as I gingerly dipped my brushes into the vibrant realm of art. Despite my self-criticism, their encouraging words and appreciation for my efforts boosted my confidence. I've always believed that my work fell short of the brilliance that my cousins effortlessly attained. Nonetheless, their faith in my abilities spurred me ahead, encouraging me to explore the boundaries of my imagination.
I discovered my sanctuary, a place where self-expression took flight, when painting, drawing, sculpting, or designing. The swirling strokes of my paintbrush, the accuracy of my pencil, the malleability of clay, and the digital canvases that unfolded before me provided me with peace. Each medium provided a distinct voice through which I could express my feelings, thoughts, and dreams.
Aside from my cousins, my family also had an important role in developing my artistic identity. Despite the internal struggle with self-doubt, the seduction of art was too powerful to refuse. Arts education enhanced my life by not just developing my creative talents but also instilling vital life skills like patience, perseverance, and a strong eye for detail. In the future, I want to use my artistic abilities and education to make a difference in the world. In addition, I hope to share my expertise and enthusiasm for the arts with others through teaching and mentoring. I want to encourage budding artists to develop their skills and use their unique creative voices, just like my cousins and family have done for me.
As I move forward, I am aware that there may be challenges and moments of self-doubt, but I am confident that my love of the arts and the great support I have received will guide me through any difficulties. I will continue to improve as an artist with each brush stroke or mouse click, utilizing my creations to brighten the world with beauty, empathy, and inspiration. Diane Amendt Memorial Scholarship for the Arts
I knew my calling was in therapy the minute I saw my mother in the therapy room, seeking assistance and advice. That solitary encounter ignited a fire within my heart as a child, which would later blossom into an undying passion. Witnessing my mother's change and the therapy process instilled in me a passion to assist others in finding their road to healing and self-discovery.
Growing up, I was fascinated by the workings of the human mind and the complexities of emotions. My mother's therapy room became a hallowed sanctuary for her to be vulnerable, communicate her worries, and address her difficulties. She uncovered latent qualities and resilience during her therapy journey, in addition to learning to manage her obstacles. Seeing her progress made me understand how powerful professional therapists can be in giving hope and creating change in people's lives.
As I dug more into my studies and personal experiences, I realized the critical importance of mental and emotional well-being. Therapy is a profoundly transforming and collaborative process that enables people to address their pasts, make sense of their present, and embrace a more satisfying future. As a woman, I find enormous strength in the thought of assisting others in overcoming obstacles and realizing their full potential. My gender has never impeded creating connections, comprehending varied perspectives, and cultivating a feeling of trust within therapy interactions.
In my goal of becoming a therapist, I have dedicated myself to lifelong study and personal development. To ensure that I can deliver the most effective and holistic care to my prospective clients, I have immersed myself in diverse psychological theories, counseling techniques, and therapeutic approaches.
I foresee a future in which mental health is no longer stigmatized and seeking therapy is seen as a daring step toward personal growth and development. As a female prospective therapist, I wish to contribute to the larger cause of empowering people to prioritize their mental and emotional health.
To summarize, my interest in pursuing a career in therapy began as a child when I experienced the transformative effect of therapy in my mother's life. I was inspired to go on a journey of healing, empath, and compassion by the nurturing direction of my mother's therapist. My journey as a woman who appreciates both art and animals has been fashioned by tenacity and enthusiasm. Be it through painting, drawing, or sculpture, the creative process has always brought me comfort and delight. I've used my work as a way to communicate my emotions and think about the world around me. My lifelong love of animals, especially dogs, cats, horses, wolves, and wolfdogs, has also been a continual source of solace and friendship.
My route hasn't been without obstacles, though. I have experienced a variety of forms of abuse, some of which I only realized after some thought and meditation. My mental health has been severely harmed by the verbal, emotional, and occasionally physical abuse I received from extended family members. I silently carried the weight of these experiences for years, which affected my feeling of worth and self-worth.
Nevertheless, throughout it all, my passion for both art and animals has served as a compass, bringing me through the darkest moments and giving me a sense of direction and optimism. My artistic endeavors evolved into a haven where I could express my feelings, find solace, and reclaim some measure of control over my life. Animals, especially my beloved dogs and cats, provided me with unwavering love and support. They were my devoted friends and were never critical of me or hurtful to me.
Despite the challenges, I also have the privilege of being a first-generation college student. It has been a transformational experience to pursue education since it has given me access to new options and perspectives. My education has not only broadened my mind but also given me the strength to escape the cycle of abuse and build a better life for myself.
Investing in education and animal welfare advocacy are two crucial areas that have given my life meaning and purpose, therefore if I was given financial assistance to improve my lot in life, I would do so. With the money, I would continue my academic career, working to increase my knowledge and abilities in the hopes of achieving a rewarding job in the arts or a field involving animals.
Additionally, I would use a portion of the money to help charities that devote their lives to saving, rehabbing, and giving abandoned and neglected animals loving homes. I've learned the value of empathy and compassion through my own experiences, and I feel obligated to help these individuals that have also suffered at the hands of others.
Beyond my development and the welfare of animals, I hope to use my artistic abilities to spread awareness of the negative effects of abuse and the therapeutic value of creativity. Through my work, I want to encourage people to find their voice and ask for assistance if they are dealing with similar difficulties. Art may be a powerful tool to start talks, end silence, and create a supportive and understanding community.
In conclusion, perseverance and a desire to build a better life have formed my journey as a woman who appreciates both art and animals. My path has been defined by overcoming the impacts of abuse, obtaining an education as a first-generation college student, and finding comfort in creativity and the company of animals. If given the chance, I would use the financial assistance to support animal welfare causes, further my education, and use my art to promote social change. I hope to improve not just my future, but also the lives of those around me and the welfare of animals who deserve our love and care. Thank you for considering my application and taking the time to review it.
Chadwick D. McNab Memorial Scholarship
I was given the chance to work on a project that truly sparked my interest. The project was creating a cutting-edge mobile app that involved breeding various types of virtual dogs and earning virtual currency by selling their wonderful puppies. In addition to offering dog lovers a fun experience, this project also had the potential to be instructive and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the project was abruptly canceled midway through its construction. However, my experience with this software had a significant impact on me and continues to fuel my passion for technology.
I was happy to join a team that had the same idea as I had for developing an app that would not only amuse users but also instill responsibility and compassion for animals. We were able to study different genetic features and inheritance patterns by breeding virtual dogs, which helped people learn about genetics in a fun and engaging way. I was honestly inspired to give it my all because it was a special project that brought together my love of technology and animals.
We worked closely together during the early stages of development to generate concepts, create the user interface, and lay the foundation for the app's functionalities. Outstanding teamwork and friendship among coworkers generated an atmosphere where innovation and creativity could flourish. We were motivated by the idea of providing a product that would enrich the lives of our users while also entertaining them.
I was completely involved in the development and implementation of the main features as the project developed. It was incredibly satisfying to watch the app take shape, see the virtual dogs come to life on the screen, and make progress toward building an immersive user experience. I put my entire being into the project because I knew the outcome would be worthwhile.
However, as is common in the technology industry, unforeseen difficulties appeared. Unfortunately, the project had to be abandoned in the middle of development as a result of unforeseeable events outside of our control. The choice was disappointing, but it also gave me a valuable lesson in adaptability and perseverance. I discovered how to embrace the attitude of continuous improvement in the face of failures by seeing them as chances to develop and learn.
My enthusiasm for technology and its ability to improve lives was further cemented by this endeavor. Even though it was never finished, the experience gave me a passion for developing useful solutions and making a difference using cutting-edge technologies. It showed me how crucial it is to continue to be flexible and receptive to new opportunities in a changing field.
I am motivated by the chance to disprove preconceptions and break down barriers as a woman in technology. I am a member of a growing movement where women are playing crucial roles in determining the direction fo innovation and technology. My experience with the dog breeding app solidified my conviction that gender should never be a defining factor in one's talents and that women may achieve success in any industry they are enthusiastic about.
In conclusion, the abandoned initiative acted as a catalyst, igniting my commitment to technology, and creativity, and having a beneficial impact on the world. The adventure strengthened my resolve to keep going despite difficulties, gave me priceless lessons, and stroked my passion. I am unrelentingly excited to create, develop, and inspire others with the power of technology as I continue to investigate new ideas and opportunities in the tech industry. Thank you for considering my application.
Team Crosby Forever Veterinary Medicine Scholarship
My heart has been captured by the enormous potential to heal, nurture, and advocate for our furry companions ever since I attended an open house for a college tour and learned about the field of veterinary medicine. Studying veterinary medicine was a natural and passionate choice for me as a female with an intrinsic love for animals and a strong desire to improve their lives.
When I was young, I spent many hours caring for my pets and built unbreakable bonds with them, which is when I first became fascinated by animals. As I became older, I understood that my love for animals went beyond just being their friend; it also took the form of a strong sense of obligation to look after and protect them. I had the opportunity to experience the diverse world of veterinary medicine at an open house for a college tour, and I realized at that moment that this was the career route I was meant to take.
I intend to get the knowledge and abilities necessary to become a compassionate and knowledgeable veterinarian through my studies in veterinary medicine. My objective is to promote the welfare and well-being of animals in addition to diagnosing and treating them. I want to advocate for ethical pet ownership and the treatment of all animals humanely so that those who are unable to speak for themselves can be heard.
As I progress through veterinary school, I hope to work closely with many different species, including domestic pets, wild animals, and exotic creatures. I want to immerse myself in a variety of experiences since each one will help me better comprehend the special requirements and difficulties of each species. Through practical training, I wish to gain the knowledge necessary to manage challenging medical situations and give each patient the best care possible.
I also hope to make a difference in the area of veterinary innovation and research. I can take part in ground-breaking investigations and help to improve veterinary procedures, drugs, and treatment modalities by keeping up with the most recent developments. My education will give me the knowledge and abilities to analyze research findings critically and apply evidence-based techniques in my therapeutic work.
I also want to actively engage in community outreach and education outside of the context of the clinic and research. I firmly believe that education can raise consciousness and give pet owners the power to decide what is best for the health and welfare of their animals. To spread awareness of responsible pet ownership, preventative healthcare, and the importance of spaying and neutering to reduce animal overpopulation, I intend to host workshops, seminars, and public awareness campaigns.
My ultimate goal is to have a significant, long-lasting influence on the lives of animals and the humans who care about them. I aim to instill hope and joy in pet owners and build trust and comfort in my patients by fusing my compassion for animals with my understanding of veterinary medicine. This ambition will be realized through the veterinary medical education I get, and I'm determined to give my all to this wonderful profession.
In conclusion, I chose to pursue veterinary medicine because I have a strong passion for animals and a desire to improve their quality of life. I want to advance animal welfare, become a knowledgeable and sympathetic veterinarian, engage in research and innovation, and actively encourage responsible pet ownership through my studies. I'm prepared to start this journey of compassion and devote my life to helping our dear animal companions. Thank you for considering my application.
focusIT’s Women in IT Scholarship
My love of STEM fields--science, technology, engineering, and mathematics has been a part of who I am since a very young age. For a woman who aspires to work in STEM, this path represents not only a personal passion but also a significant chance to dispel preconceptions, tear down barriers, and make a real contribution to a sector that has historically been controlled by men.
For me, pursuing a career in STEM means embracing the thrill of innovation and discovery. Each experience has been a step toward realizing my objectives, from performing experiments in my homemade laboratory as a child to competing in robotics and science fairs. My passion for following this route is sparked by the process of unlocking the mysteries of the cosmos, creating cutting-edge technologies, and resolving challenging issues.
STEM careers represent independence and toughness. Women have always encountered numerous challenges in STEM professions, including cultural biases, unequal opportunities, and underrepresentation. But these difficulties just strengthen my resolve to demonstrate that gender should never impede success. As I enter the field of STEM, I am not only pursuing my own goals but also carrying the torch for younger generations of girls, demonstrating to them that they too can dare to dream, achieve success, and help change the world via science and technology.
A STEM career, in my opinion, represents the opportunity to significantly influence society. I am motivated by a desire to use my knowledge and abilities to make a difference in the world, whether it is by carrying out ground-breaking research to find cures for diseases, developing long-lasting solutions to environmental problems, or utilizing technology to enhance lives. I consider STEM to be a potent weapon for tackling global concerns, and I am excited to contribute to a coordinated effort to create a better future.
A STEM job also represents inclusivity and teamwork. I think that diversity in the workplace encourages innovation and creativity. We can foster a culture where ideas flourish and lead to ground-breaking discoveries and revolutionary developments by actively engaging with colleagues from all backgrounds, cultures, and viewpoints. My experience in STEM will provide me with the possibility to promote harmony and cooperation while demonstrating that the potential of group intelligence transcends gender lines.
In conclusion, pursuing a profession in STEM as a woman with a lifelong desire to do so is more than just a choice of occupation; it is a calling, a chance to change the world, and a declaration of empowerment. It entails embracing curiosity, dismantling barriers, and making a contribution to a society where diversity and gender equality are valued. I am prepared to take advantage of every chance that comes my way and gradually reshape the future of STEM thanks to my unrelenting dedication and tenacity. Thank you for considering my application.
Joseph A. Venuti Marine Science & Conservation Scholarship
My time and efforts would be devoted to revealing the secrets of the ocean's depths and promoting ethical behavior to protect marine ecosystems. More than 70% of the surface of the Earth is covered by our oceans, but we have just begun to scratch the surface of our understanding of their immense diversity and complexity. This insight fuels my resolve to explore the unexplored territory and address pressing issues affecting our marine ecology.
I would focus my efforts on figuring out how climate change affects marine ecosystems. Because it absorbs a considerable quantity of heat and carbon dioxide, the ocean helps to regulate our climate. This essential service does have a price, though. Marine life is seriously threatened by ocean acidification and warming waters, especially fragile coral reefs and marine biodiversity. We can create efficient strategies for mitigation and adaptation by examining the intricate relationships between climate change and marine ecosystems.
I would also place a higher priority on sustainable resource management and marine conservation. Marine biodiversity has suffered due to overfishing, habitat loss, and pollution, endangering the livelihoods of millions who depend on the resources of the ocean. Marine protected areas (MPAs) are essential, and enforcing strict fishing laws can aid in restoring damaged habitats and promoting the survival of marine animals.
My strategy would center on multidisciplinary collaboration and research. Our efforts will be well-informed and effective if we interact with a variety of stakeholders, such as local people, decision-makers, and other scientists. We can create comprehensive solutions that reconcile ecological protection with human needs by combining our collective experience.
Last but not least, I would be dedicated to educating the public about the value of the ocean and the necessity of marine conservation. We can encourage the next generation of marine scientists and inculcate a sense of responsibility for the protection of our planet's most priceless resource through educational and outreach activities.
In conclusion, I would concentrate on discovering the undiscovered, comprehending the effects of climate change, supporting marine conservation, encouraging teamwork, and raising public awareness. We can reveal the mysteries of the ocean and assure a healthy future for our planet and its marine life by devoting our time and effort to these projects. Together, we can have a significant impact on protecting the wonders of the deep blue and the delicate ecosystem that the ocean supports.
Additionally, my ultimate goals are to graduate college, get a job that pays very well, and use the money I get from the job to accomplish my dreams. My dreams are to build places for animals and humans alike. I want to build a sanctuary for abandoned or injured dogs, cats, horses, wolves, and wolfdogs. The sanctuary would help rehabilitate and find forever homes for the animals. I also want to build a place for children and teens in the foster system. I want them to have a place where they feel like they matter and that they are loved, and I want to help them find families that will love them or help them be reunited with their birth families if that is possible. Another thing I want to build is a place for children and teens who were kicked out of their families to have somewhere that cares about them and creates a place for them to be safe. Finally, I want to build a place that helps homeless people. I want to give them a place to live and help them get back on their feet, so they can get a place for themselves and their independence back. Thank you for considering my application.
Your Health Journey Scholarship
My 20-year-old self, who formerly weighed 200 pounds, has found empowerment and transformation through her journey with her health. I can see how far I've come and the changes I've made to live a healthier and happier life when I take a look back. Reaching my desired weight of 165 pounds by losing 35 pounds has been a journey of self-discovery, perseverance, and newly discovered confidence.
I chose to start this health journey for reasons other than just looks; I wanted to take back control of my life and put my health first. I had become weary of having poor self-esteem, feeling drained of energy, and struggling with it. I was aware that a change was necessary for my mental and emotional well-being in addition to the physical ones.
Adopting a healthful and balanced diet was one of the biggest improvements I made. I became knowledgeable about macronutrients, portion control, and the effects of processed meals on general health. I concentrated on sustainably changing my lifestyle rather than using crash diets and short cures. I ate fewer sugary and calorie-dense snacks and increased the amount of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in my meals.
Planning and preparing my meals helped me along the way. I developed the ability to prepare delicious and healthful meals, which not only helped me save money but also gave me control over the quality of the ingredients. I was able to avoid the temptation of the bad options accessible on campus by packing wholesome lunches and snacks for college.
Along with altering my eating patterns, I also started to exercise more carefully. I began with easy workouts like walking and built up my intensity as I got stronger and more self-assured. I eventually added cardio and strength training to my program, which helped me lose weight while also enhancing my overall strength and stamina.
I had to enjoy my exercise if I wanted to continue doing it. I came across pastimes like yoga, hiking, and dance that I enjoyed. Exercise became less of a chore and more of a pleasurable part of my day thanks to these activities.
My physical and mental health saw substantial changes over time, which I started to notice. I felt more energized, self-assured, and at ease in my skin as the weight progressively slid off. My mental clarity increased, and my mood swings decreased. My improved self-control and resiliency also spread to other aspects of my life, improving my relationships with others and my academic standing.
My path to achieving my ideal weight wasn't without its challenges. There were times of uncertainty and annoyance, but I eventually learned to enjoy minor successes and forget about mistakes. I saw setbacks as opportunities to learn and advance rather than seeing them as failures.
As a result of my health journey, I have undergone a metamorphosis that has given me the confidence to take control of my health and adopt a better lifestyle. I reached my target weight of 165 pounds by combining a healthy diet with regular exercise and unrelenting dedication. Along with the physical changes, I also underwent a significant mental and confidence adjustment. Through this journey, I've learned that adopting lasting lifestyle adjustments, discovering the joy of exercise, and looking for support from others are essential steps toward reaching and sustaining a healthy lifestyle. As I continue along this road, I am eager to investigate new opportunities, accept fresh difficulties, and develop into my best self. Thank you for considering my application.

In my early teens, I gladly joined the flag football squad at my school after being moved by the players' tremendous performances. I want to better the lives of athletes, much as playing sports and watching football have improved mine, I want to earn a degree in a profession that relates to athletics.
In addition, my love of American football goes beyond the playing field. My life has been much improved by adopting a balanced and healthy diet, which has increased my energy and mood as well as given me a sense of control over my health.
Healthy eating practices are the most important factor in supporting my physical wellness. I give my body the vital vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients it needs by putting a high priority on nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats. I get the nutrients I need for growth and healthy functioning when I eat from a variety of food groups.
Notably, the benefits to my physical health are apparent in several ways. I can now push through long days of college studies and extracurricular activities because of my increased energy levels. Additionally, adopting healthy eating practices has helped me escape the cycle of shame and guilt that often come with making poor food decisions. Mind, Body, & Soul Scholarship
The idea of going to college is very exciting to me as I begin this new chapter in my life. Living away from home, discovering new ideas, and forming lifelong friendships offers a sense of freedom and independence that is both thrilling and terrifying. I'm going to take advantage of every opportunity for personal development and self-discovery that college has to offer.
The variety of academic fields and extracurricular activities accessible is one of the most exciting elements of college life. The opportunity to delve into a variety of academic disciplines, from psychology to literature, is like a waiting adventure. I'm looking forward to attending fascinating lectures, taking part in thought-provoking conversations, and interacting with knowledgeable teachers. I'm excited about the potential of broadening my knowledge and acquiring useful skills.
Additionally, education offers a singular chance to interact with people from other cultures and backgrounds. The diversity of viewpoints generates an atmosphere of empathy and open-mindedness. This deepens our understanding of the world. I'm eager to develop myself as an individual and make lasting relationships with classmates and have friends for life.
However, the challenges of college life should not be underestimated. It can occasionally be too much to handle, what with the demanding academic requirements and duties of newly gained independence. I have developed a holistic strategy for self-care to keep a healthy mind, body, and spirit despite the difficulties.
I'm aware of how crucial it is to keep one's mind in good shape. I put time management and organization first to do this. I carefully manage my calendar using digital tools and planners, making sure to block off time for studying, socializing, and me-time. This helps me remain on top of tasks and deadlines while also lowering my stress levels.
I also firmly believe in the ability of mindfulness and meditation to improve attention. I take quick breaks to meditate or do deep breathing exercises whenever I feel overburdened. These peaceful times allow me to refuel mentally so that I can take on difficulties with renewed enthusiasm.
I actively engage in physical activity and follow a balanced diet to maintain a healthy body. Long days spent studying or attending classes during college might be sedentary. I, therefore, make an effort to exercise regularly, whether it be through intramural sports, yoga courses, or jogging in the campus park. Maintaining an active lifestyle, in my opinion, benefits my physical health as well as my mental health and productivity.
Furthermore, I pay attention to the foods I eat. While there are many tempting delights available at college cafeterias, I try to choose healthful foods that will nourish both my body and mind. I occasionally like indulgences, but I place a higher priority on consuming wholesome meals that include fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins.
I accept creativity and self-expression as means of nourishing my spirit. I can transform my feelings and thoughts into something concrete by engaging in artistic activities like painting, writing, or playing an instrument. In times of stress, using my creativity as an outlet for expression gives me a sense of fulfillment.
In conclusion, college is an exhilarating experience that offers countless chances for development and self-discovery. A bit about me: I love dogs, cats, horses, wolves, and wolfdogs. I love painting, drawing, and making things for myself and as gifts for others. The reason I enjoy painting or drawing for others is that I like to see their faces light up from the happiness they get from my creation and that it was specifically for them. I also like to play video games like Minecraft, story games, horse games, and dog games. Other things I enjoy are reading and watching movies.
There are many reasons why I want to attend college. The first reason is that I want to pursue higher education. The second reason is that I want to experience the atmosphere that attending college brings to the table. I want to experience being in person because, for most of my life, I have been homeschooled or gone to an online high school. I feel this would give me a better opportunity to make friends, experience things I have never done, and further enhance my education. The third reason is that I want to use my degree to get a well-paying job. The fourth reason is to do better than either of my parents did since neither finished college. The fifth reason is to make more money than my dad does. Since I grew up in a middle-class, poor home, which did help me to understand how to be financially smart and not spend foolishly, I always wanted to have more money to feel freer and do things my friends did that I could not.
My life goals are to graduate college, get a well-paying job with my degree, earn and save money, be an open-minded person, get married, have kids, and accomplish my dreams. I want to become an art director. I want to make enough money to open rescues for dogs, cats, wolves, wolfdogs, and horses. I also want to make enough money to open a place for homeless people to have a place to live and help them get back on their feet. I also want to make enough money to open a place for foster children and teens to have a place for them to feel loved and that they have a place to call home. I want to make enough money to open a place for LGBTQ+ kids and teens to feel loved, that someone cares for them, and that they have a home.

Driving under the influence (DUI) is a severe issue that plagues societies around the world, causing countless accidents, injuries, and fatalities. The consequences of DUIs extend far beyond the individuals involved, affecting families, communities, and the overall well-being of society. In this essay, we will explore the effects of DUIs and discuss effective strategies that can be employed to prevent them.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs impairs judgment, coordination, and reaction time, significantly increasing the risk of accidents. DUI-related accidents often result in severe injuries or even fatalities. Beyond the physical toll, DUIs can also lead to emotional trauma for victims and their families, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
DUI offenses carry heavy legal penalties, including fines, license suspensions, mandatory alcohol education programs, and even imprisonment. These consequences not only impact the individual convicted of DUI but also place a burden on the legal system and society as a whole.
DUI-related incidents result in substantial economic burdens. Expenses related to emergency medical care, property damage, legal proceedings, and increased insurance rates strain both individuals and communities. By reducing DUI incidents, significant financial resources could be directed towards more constructive endeavors.
Comprehensive educational campaigns can play a crucial role in preventing DUIs. Schools, community organizations, and government agencies should provide targeted education on the dangers and consequences of impaired driving. Awareness initiatives can include public service announcements, seminars, and educational programs designed to foster responsible decision-making regarding alcohol and drug consumption.
Effective legislation is vital to deterring potential DUI offenders. Laws should include rigorous penalties, mandatory ignition interlock devices, and sobriety checkpoints. Law enforcement agencies should conduct regular patrols, increase visibility, and enhance enforcement efforts to identify and apprehend impaired drivers.
Advancements in technology offer promising solutions for DUI prevention. Breathalyzer devices installed in vehicles can prevent individuals with alcohol in their systems from starting their cars. Developing and implementing reliable and accurate drug-testing technology for roadside use can further aid in identifying and deterring drug-impaired driving.
Promoting the use of ridesharing services, such as Uber or Lyft, and establishing efficient public transportation systems can provide accessible and convenient alternatives to driving under the influence. Additionally, community-based initiatives, such as designated driver programs, can encourage responsible behaviors among friends and peers.
Shifting social norms and fostering a community culture that discourages DUIs can have a significant impact. Promoting responsible drinking habits, encouraging designated drivers, and supporting individuals who choose not to drive while impaired can create a positive peer influence that reduces the incidence of DUIs.
Individuals must take personal responsibility for their actions. Encouraging a sense of personal accountability regarding alcohol and drug consumption and raising awareness about the potential consequences of impaired driving can empower individuals to make responsible choices.
DUIs pose a severe threat to public safety, causing devastating consequences for individuals, families, and communities. However, through comprehensive education, stringent legislation, technological advancements, accessible transportation alternatives, positive social norms, and personal responsibility, we can collectively work towards preventing DUI incidents. By implementing these strategies, we can create safer roads, reduce injuries and fatalities, and build a society that prioritizes responsible decision-making and the well-being of all its members.

Pool Family LGBT+ Scholarship
I realized that I liked women and men while I was watching a YouTube video of cosplayers cosplaying different characters when I was seventeen. It felt like getting sucker punched in the gut. After that, I did research about how I felt and the LGBTQ+ community. I also kept it to myself because I didn't know how my family would react. My dad would say "fruit loop" when talking about someone from the community, so I was more concerned about how he would react.
My mom found out that I am bisexual when she was picking me up from a high school-sanctioned conference. I don't remember everything exactly, but I was talking about the people I met at the conference, and I guess I said something that tipped my mom off. She asked me if I was something, and I said that I am bisexual. She asked if it was a phase, and I said that it wasn't. The conversation about it dropped after that. It was either that night or a different night that my mom commented about sending or putting me in conversion therapy. I got upset by that comment and said something, but I can't remember what I said. However, conversion therapy never got mentioned again, so I assume whatever I said struck a chord with her.
My dad finding out I am bisexual was nerve-racking, but it turned out fine. He must have overheard my mom or had some idea. He asked when my mom was out of the house and when my brother wasn't in the room. I answered that I am bisexual, and he said that was ok with him. My brother found out I am bisexual after I commented on something regarding it. I forgot that he didn't know. He seemed shocked, but quickly said ok and shrugged it off.
The rest of my immediate family found out when we went down to Tucson, AZ, for Thanksgiving. Some of us were playing apple-to-apple, and one of my cousins made the comment that not picking their card would be homophobic, so I blurted out that I'm bisexual. There was silence for a split second, and then everything went back to normal.
My career goal is to find a steady job that pays well in my field. I aspire to earn and save enough money to make my dreams come true. I aspire to create a place for rescued animals. I aspire to create a place for foster care children and teens to feel safe and loved. I aspire to create a place for children and teens who were kicked out for being a part of the LGBTQ+ community to feel safe and loved. And I aspire to create a place where homeless people can have shelter while also getting the opportunity to get their lives back under their control.
Isaac Yunhu Lee Memorial Arts Scholarship
The piece of art I've attached is a favorite of mine simply because of the circumstances that led to its creation. In this essay, I will talk about the circumstances that led to the creation of one of my favorite pieces of art.
My parents and I had been to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park three times when I was younger and before my little brother was born. After my little brother was born, we were not able to go for many years. It was 2017 when we were all able to go again. At the time, it was several days before Mother's Day when we arrived at the hotel, Disneyland, and Disney California Adventure Park.
When we were able to go back to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park, Cars Land had been built and operational for five years by that time. The movie "Cars" has always been a favorite of mine, so when we first entered Cars Land for the first time, it was like we were physically in the movie. We went everywhere in Cars Land and saw everything, and did everything that we could.
At some point, we went to the Disney Animation Studios to learn how to draw whatever they had planned for the time we were there. What they had planned for everyone to draw at the time we attended was Heihei, the chicken from Moana. We were told how to sketch him and how to get the final result. After everyone had finished and was in the process of leaving, the instructor told us that the next group was going to learn how to sketch Chip from Beauty and the Beast. Everyone was disappointed, including my mom. Her favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast, so she was very upset that we drew Heihei instead of Chip.
We got back from our trip late at night on the 13th of May. When we woke up the next morning, it was Mother's Day. I didn't make anything for my mom before the trip, so I had no idea what to make for her. Until I remembered that she had wanted to draw Chip when we were at Disney California Adventure Park. I decided that I would find out how to draw Chip and then draw it for her.
Unfortunately, I didn't finish it until the day after Mother's Day. But I finished it nonetheless. When I gave it to her, she was blindsided but very happy. When I explained why I had decided to draw Chip for her, her facial features shifted, and she started crying. I think she was happy about her gift and the meaning behind it.
