Growing up, I would sit on the couch, with my fruit punch and help my parents file for work. Both my parents are lawyers, and being around the criminal justice system all my life inspired me to pursue a career that follows in their footsteps, but creates my own path as well. Taking the AP Psychology class in high school sparked my interest in the field of psychology and its relation to criminology. Now, at the University of Florida, I am pursuing a double major in Psychology - Behavioral Science and Criminology. As an out-of-stater-gator, as we saw down in the swamp of UF, tuition is increasingly high and only getting higher with budget cuts and the school's aspirations to renovate facilities. Living in New Jersey means each time I visit my family back home, which isn't often, I have to fly. All Spring semester I was unable to visit my mom, dad, younger sister, and older brother back home because we had to put forth all available money into paying for tuition. Scholarship money would not only allow me to visit my family, but it would allow me to pursue my dreams simultaneously. The University of Florida is named a "New Ivy" for its stellar professors and history of difficulty in its courses. This challenge pushes me and creates the same adrenaline rush that becoming a future FBI agent does. Attending this university is expensive, however, with this scholarship, I would be able to continue pursuing my goals by attending graduate school fully focused on my studies instead of having my mind worried about the money. Not only would this scholarship allow me to finish college and pursue graduate school, but it would set me up to be on the right path for my dream career. I would be able to engage in unpaid internships to help build my resume and work experience in the field, without worry that the lack of payment for the crucial internship would hinder my progress or education. This scholarship would allow me to purchase much-needed physical textbooks for school, where I can take copious notes, instead of online ones where highlighting and taking notes proves rather difficult. In addition, this scholarship money would allow me to work fewer shifts at my on-campus gym job, giving me more time to engage in clubs and activities related to my major and interests. It would also allow me more time to participate in research and research projects with my professors or peers. This scholarship would not only allow for a low-stress, highly studious approach to my college life, but it would also increase my effectiveness and efficiency in pursing my criminal justice dreams.
