Bio

I have a strong passion for pursuing a career in the medical field, with a keen interest in Orthopedics or Pediatrics. My childhood was fraught with difficulties as I was raised in foster care and had to grapple with mental health issues and aspirations. I never had anyone believing in me, and therefore I never believed in myself. However, I am now resolute in my determination to put in the hard work required to gain admission into a prestigious college and realize my dream of becoming a medical professional. Ultimately, I aspire to make a positive impact on people's lives. I firmly believe that with dedication and perseverance, any goal can be achieved.

Education, to me, is the ultimate key to empowerment and transformation. It is a beacon of hope that can illuminate the darkest corners of one's life, providing the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to overcome adversity and achieve one's dreams. As a woman who has navigated the challenges of the foster care system, education represents my bridge to a brighter future and the realization of my life goals. Growing up in foster care, I witnessed the transformative power of education firsthand. It was the constant force that propelled me forward, offering stability and a sense of purpose. Education provided me with not only the academic tools necessary to excel but also the emotional strength to persevere through difficult circumstances. It became a refuge—a place where I could invest in myself and dream of a life beyond the confines of the system. To me, education signifies self-improvement and the opportunity to break the cycle of adversity. It is a means to empower oneself, to rise above challenges, and to make a meaningful impact on the world. It is the path to acquiring knowledge, skills, and values that shape not only a successful career but also a fulfilling life. My life goals are deeply intertwined with my experiences in foster care and my passion for education. First and foremost, I aspire to pursue a career in the medical field. I am driven by a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of individuals facing health challenges, especially those who, like me, have overcome adversity. My goal is to provide compassionate and empathetic care to patients, serving as a source of hope and healing. Education plays a pivotal role in achieving this aspiration. It means acquiring the knowledge and expertise required to excel in the medical field, continuously staying updated with the latest advancements, and dedicating myself to a lifetime of learning and growth. Education is not just a means to an end but a lifelong journey that will enable me to provide the highest standard of care to my patients. Beyond my career, I am also committed to giving back to my community and supporting individuals in foster care. My experiences have taught me the importance of mentorship and guidance. Therefore, I aim to use my education and career success as a platform to inspire and assist others who have faced similar challenges. I want to be a role model for foster youth, demonstrating that education can be a powerful tool for transcending circumstances and achieving one's goals. In conclusion, education represents empowerment, transformation, and a pathway to realizing my life goals. It is the driving force behind my pursuit of a career in the medical field and my commitment to making a positive impact on my community. Through education, I believe I can not only overcome the challenges I have faced but also serve as a source of inspiration and support for others on their journey toward success and self-discovery.
Clevenger Women in Foster Care Award
From my early years growing up in the foster care system, I learned the transformative power of resilience, adaptability, and empathy. These unique skills that I have honed over the years will undoubtedly play a crucial role in making a difference in both my community and the medical field. As I embark on my journey towards a career in medicine, I am committed to leveraging my experiences and abilities to drive the positive change I want to see in this world. From a young age, I was powerless in my world. I was surrounded by hateful adults and I had no role model, no compaction. I want to be able to help children who feel hopeless like I felt, I want to be their role model, I don't want them to feel afraid like I did. I want to make a difference. My time in foster care has instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and an unwavering commitment to advocating for those in vulnerable situations. I have walked in the shoes of countless children who have experienced trauma, instability, and uncertainty. This firsthand perspective has given me a unique insight into the psychological and emotional needs of individuals facing adversity. In my future career as a medical professional, I intend to use this empathy to provide compassionate care to patients from all walks of life, particularly those who have experienced trauma or challenging circumstances. Furthermore, my experiences have made me highly adaptable. Moving from one foster home to another and adjusting to new environments and caregivers required a high degree of flexibility and resilience. These qualities will serve me well in the fast-paced and ever-evolving field of medicine. I understand that the medical field is dynamic, and I am prepared to embrace change and continue learning to provide the best possible care to my patients. As a woman with a background in foster care entering the medical field, I also recognize the importance of representation. My unique background allows me to connect with patients who may have had similar experiences, and I can serve as a source of inspiration and hope for them. By sharing my journey and showing that success is achievable despite adversity, I aim to encourage others to pursue their dreams, regardless of their background. In terms of my community involvement, I am determined to give back to organizations that support children in foster care. I plan to become a foster parent to volunteer my time and expertise to mentor and guide foster youth, offering them guidance and encouragement to pursue higher education and careers in healthcare. Through this, I hope to break down barriers and create more opportunities for underrepresented individuals to thrive in the medical field. In conclusion, my unique skills developed through my background in foster care—empathy, adaptability, and resilience—will be invaluable assets as I work to make a difference in both my community and the medical field. I am dedicated to providing compassionate care, advocating for the vulnerable, and inspiring others to overcome adversity. With the support of this scholarship, I can continue to pursue my goals and ultimately contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate healthcare system.
