    Sustainable Business Scholarship
From the earliest moments of my childhood, my mother instilled in me a profound appreciation for the environment and the importance of sustainable practices. As a single parent raising two children, she demonstrated the value of resourcefulness and conservation, teaching us to recycle, reuse, and reduce waste in our daily lives. It was through her example that I learned the significance of individual actions in creating a collective impact, planting the seeds for my belief in the importance of businesses implementing sustainable practices. In today's world, where climate change poses an increasingly urgent threat to our planet, it is more crucial than ever for businesses to prioritize sustainability. Beyond the moral imperative to protect the environment, integrating sustainable practices into business operations is essential for long-term viability and resilience in the face of environmental challenges. By reducing their carbon footprint and minimizing their environmental impact, businesses not only contribute to global efforts to combat climate change but also position themselves as leaders in their industries, attracting environmentally-conscious consumers and investors. There are numerous eco-friendly practices that businesses can implement to reduce their carbon footprint and promote sustainability. Firstly, investing in renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with traditional energy consumption. By transitioning to renewable energy sources, businesses not only mitigate their environmental impact but also benefit from long-term cost savings and energy independence. Secondly, adopting sustainable waste management practices is essential for reducing landfill waste and minimizing environmental pollution. Businesses can implement strategies such as waste reduction, recycling, and composting to divert waste from landfills and promote a circular economy. By prioritizing the use of recyclable materials, reducing packaging waste, and implementing composting programs, businesses can significantly reduce their environmental footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future. Lastly, prioritizing sustainable sourcing and supply chain management practices is critical for businesses looking to minimize their environmental impact. By partnering with suppliers who adhere to environmentally-friendly practices and ethical labor standards, businesses can ensure that their products are produced in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. Additionally, implementing sustainable procurement policies, such as choosing locally sourced and organic materials, can further reduce the carbon footprint associated with production and distribution. In conclusion, businesses play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our planet, and implementing sustainable practices is essential for mitigating the impacts of climate change and preserving natural resources for future generations. By investing in renewable energy, adopting sustainable waste management practices, and prioritizing sustainable sourcing and supply chain management, businesses can reduce their carbon footprint and lead the way towards a more sustainable and environmentally-conscious future.

However, amidst the challenges and struggles, I discovered a resilience born out of a deep-seated desire to succeed and make a meaningful impact on the world around me. Navigating the complexities of mental health while shouldering the responsibilities of breaking familial barriers and paving a path to education has been an arduous journey. There were moments when self-doubt crept in, when the weight of expectations seemed insurmountable, and when the road ahead appeared dauntingly long. Yet, it was precisely during these moments of darkness that I found the strength to persevere, driven by an unwavering determination to overcome obstacles and forge ahead towards my goals. My experience with mental health has profoundly shaped my goals, relationships, and understanding of the world. It has instilled in me a deep empathy for others facing similar struggles and a commitment to breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness. Through my own journey, I have come to recognize the importance of prioritizing self-care, seeking support when needed, and fostering open and honest conversations about mental health. Moreover, my experience has underscored the interconnectedness of mental health with broader social and systemic issues. As I navigate the intersections of identity, privilege, and access to resources, I am acutely aware of the disparities that exist and the urgent need for equitable support systems. In my pursuit of education and personal growth, I am driven not only by a desire to uplift myself but also by a commitment to advocating for systemic change and creating a more inclusive and supportive society for all. It has reshaped my understanding of success, emphasizing the importance of holistic well-being and the pursuit of goals that align with my values and aspirations. As I continue on my journey, I carry with me the lessons learned from my struggles, drawing strength from adversity and remaining steadfast in my pursuit of a brighter, more compassionate future.

    Cat Zingano Overcoming Loss Scholarship
The year 2006 marked a pivotal moment in my life. I was on the cusp of adulthood, a senior in high school, ready to graduate and embark on a journey into higher education. As the oldest granddaughter and the first in my family to graduate high school and attend college, I carried the weight of immense expectations. However, amidst the excitement, a shadow loomed over our household. My grandmother, a source of boundless love and wisdom, was fighting a battle for her life. She had been a constant presence in my upbringing, offering guidance, warmth, and unconditional support. Her presence in our home was a source of comfort, a rock upon which our family relied. As her health deteriorated, the reality of her impending departure began to sink in. September of that year marked the beginning of my freshman year of college, but it was also the month my grandmother passed away. Her loss was a profound blow, a tidal wave of grief that threatened to consume me. The weight of my responsibilities as the eldest granddaughter and the first in my family to pursue higher education now felt like an even greater burden. In the wake of her passing, I made the difficult decision to take a semester off from my studies to grieve. It was a period of introspection, a time to grapple with the profound loss and find solace in cherished memories. During those months, I learned that grief is a complex journey, one that demands patience, self-compassion, and a willingness to confront the pain head-on. As the months passed, I felt a stirring within me—a determination to honor my grandmother's memory by pushing forward. I returned to my studies with a newfound sense of purpose, driven by the knowledge that she believed in me and my potential for greatness. It was a turning point that marked the beginning of my journey toward self-discovery and personal growth. Since that pivotal moment, I have strived to make my grandmother proud. With unwavering dedication, I earned three associate's degrees, a testament to my commitment to education and personal development. Now, I stand on the precipice of a new chapter, pursuing a Business degree with a concentration in Management and Marketing, with an anticipated graduation date of December 2024. This journey has been a testament to the resilience that adversity can instill within us. Through the loss of my grandmother, I have come to understand the fragility of life and the imperative to focus on what truly matters. It has forged in me a sense of purpose—a drive to seize every opportunity and make the most of the time I have been given. The experience has taught me that life is fleeting and that our actions and choices hold the power to shape our legacy. It has reinforced the importance of cherishing moments with loved ones, expressing gratitude, and pursuing one's passions with unwavering determination. As I move forward, I carry with me the lessons learned from my grandmother's passing. I fight not only for my own aspirations but in her memory, to honor the legacy of love and strength she left behind. I strive to be a beacon of hope and inspiration for those who come after me, just as she was for our family. In the end, it is not the accolades or achievements that define us, but the impact we have on the lives of those around us. Through loss, I have come to understand that what truly matters is the love we give, the connections we forge, and the legacy we leave behind. My journey continues, fueled by the enduring memory of my grandmother and a fervent determination to make every moment count.

These principles have not only shaped my character but have also become the foundation upon which I build my aspirations and dreams. My mother's voice was a constant echo, urging me to persevere through life's challenges. "Work hard," she would say, her eyes gleaming with determination. It was a mantra that became second nature, a reminder that success is not a gift bestowed upon the fortunate, but a reward earned through sweat, dedication, and an unyielding spirit. Through her example, I learned that true fulfillment comes from the satisfaction of knowing that one has given their all, leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of their goals. Education was another cornerstone of my upbringing. My mother viewed it as the key to unlocking a world of possibilities. With her encouragement, I embraced learning not as a chore, but as a privilege. It became a journey of discovery, an endeavor that fueled my curiosity and broadened my horizons. Yet, perhaps the most impactful lesson my mother imparted was the importance of maintaining a forward-looking perspective, even in the face of adversity. She reminded me that every dawn brings with it a new opportunity, a chance to rewrite my story and shape my destiny. This outlook has been my North Star, guiding me through moments of doubt and uncertainty. It has shown me that resilience is not the absence of struggle, but the strength to persevere in spite of it. Embedded within these values is a profound sense of gratitude for the opportunities that life has afforded me. My mother's wisdom has gifted me with a perspective that transcends self-interest. It has taught me to recognize the privilege I hold and to approach each day with a heart brimming with appreciation. I am acutely aware that there are countless individuals in the world who, through no fault of their own, face insurmountable challenges. This awareness fuels my determination to make the most of every breath I draw, to seize each moment with purpose and intention. As I envision the future, I see these values as the bedrock upon which I will build my own family. I aspire to pass down the torch of resilience, hard work, and the unwavering belief in the power of education. I hope to instill in my child(ren) the same forward-looking perspective that has been my guiding light. Through these values, I aim to nurture not only successful individuals, but compassionate, grateful souls who understand the importance of using their privilege to uplift others. Yet, beyond the ethereal nature of time, there are pillars that ground me: God, family, cherished friends, and education. My mother, while not a proponent of formal education, instilled in me a profound faith in God and the significance of nurturing cherished relationships. My circle of friends, each achieving remarkable feats in their careers, kindles a fire within me to forge a path of which they can be proud. Education, however, holds a special place in my heart. It is the beacon that illuminates the path towards personal growth, empowerment, and the potential to effect positive change. Today, I stand on the precipice of the future, assured that impossibilities are but illusions in the face of unyielding love and resolute determination. My journey at Point Loma Nazarene University, where I wholeheartedly pursue my dream career in Business Administration, promises not just personal success, but a chance to give back, to serve, and to be a beacon of change in my community. Goals: Graduate from Point Loma Nazarene with Academic Distinction. Attain the position of Business Financial Analyst at Mulligan Funding. Purchase a second home by age 40, a triumph already achieved at 29. Explore the remaining 33 states, broadening my horizons. Serve as an active and contributive member of society, leaving a lasting generational legacy.

Janos Arnay's words, "In dreams and in love there are no impossibilities," have long been a guiding light in my life. This quote encapsulates my unwavering belief that when one's heart is set on a dream, and that dream is fueled by love and determination, even the loftiest goals become attainable. In the pages that follow, I will delve into my mission, vision, values, and the goals that have crystallized over the years. I am acutely aware that my appearance may not immediately suggest someone eager to lend a helping hand. Yet, it has always been my deepest inclination to assist others. As a first-generation Mexican American, the path to education was not paved with certainty. Cultural norms and a dearth of resources made it an elusive pursuit. However, with unshakeable faith in God, I am steadfast in my mission. Once I complete my Business Administration Degree, I aspire to be a conduit of change not only for myself and my immediate circle but also for my community. Armed with a financial acumen, I aim to impart essential knowledge in financial literacy and education. If I were to rewind the tape to my college days and envision my future self, the disparity would be staggering. That's the beauty of dreams—they evolve, grow, and, if nurtured, transform into something astounding. Five years from now, I foresee myself as a Business Financial Analyst at Mulligan Funding. This projection, though seemingly distant, is underpinned by my journey from an entry-level application processor to a determined intern, honing my skills within the company. Simultaneously, I am resolute in my commitment to graduate from Point Loma Nazarene with distinction, heralding a historic moment in my family as the first university graduate. A cherished dream resides within the walls of San Diego, California, where I envision purchasing my second home. This symbolic gesture, beyond being a personal triumph, is a testament to the enduring bonds of family and friendship that have buoyed me through life's ebbs and flows. Harvey and Geneva Mabry Second Time Around Scholarship
I remember my eighteenth birthday like it was yesterday. My mother came into my room and woke me up and said Happy birthday. She preceded on saying as soon as you graduate from high school this June you will need to start paying rent and if you want to continue your education you will need to figure it out on your own. It felt like a bomb from world-war two landed on my room and destroyed everything my hopes and dreams. I recall calling my aunt my mother's younger sister and telling her what had just happened all she said to me is do not worry I got you. I graduated high school and my aunt had a job lined out for me. While I was working at an all-high school senior photography studio and hearing all of the upcoming seniors and their conversation about the colleges they got accepted and all the support they had from their parents it only fueled my motivation. I may not have all or any support from my mother but if I reach out the those around me like my job who allowed me to work around the studio hours to work and do homework, my aunt who got me the job, and myself for waking up every morning with the motivation that anything I want I can achieve. I worked a full-time job while going to school in the morning and at night. My days were very long from seven am to ten pm Monday through Friday. Fast forward to today I am 35 years old now with three associates, a job, and a house that I bought five years ago. It all took me a while to obtain but my desire to want more out of my life kept me going and was my true motivator that if I was able to achieve this what else can I achieve? Today I am very proud of myself and the woman I have become. I have always loved education and love learning new things so I decided to go back to school and continue my education and be the first in my family to step into a college obtain an associate, and finally be a college graduate with a bachelor’s in business. Also, my jobs have limited me in how far I can advance in the industry and one thing about me that I know to be true is when something is stopping me from moving forward I find ways to in how to succeed. What better way to enhance your knowledge and skills with education and information?
    Lauren Czebatul Scholarship
Almost 20 years later I am always the first to volunteer whether it was at school or at work. Growing up in San Diego and being the daughter of an illegal teenage mother I remember going to Salvation Army during Thanksgiving and Christmas in downtown. As a little girl, I was always excited to go because the best gift was having my tummy full of the great food they gave. As I got older one day I went up to the worker and ask how can I be part of this I want to do what you do. They were kind enough to point me to the right person and I was able to obtain all the necessary information so I may be able to no just volunteer but see a smile in a family, a child, an adult, and myself in feeling fulfilled that I have given back to the community that help raised me. I became a Salvation Army volunteer for a couple of years and I enjoyed setting up, serving food, and giving away gifts. I wanted to do more than just on those two days of the year I wanted to give back more of my time and be able to learn more about my community as well as others. I then joined the Mecha Club and Spanish Club at San Diego City College. I got to brush up on my culture, meet great new people, and above all make great experiences that I can recollect and remember. Volunteering not only allows you to be more caring, and contribute to the community you come from but it allows you to network and create bonds with people you may have never met. Volunteering opens the door to many opportunities and experiences that can only be from giving back. Also, volunteering gives or it gave me back a sense of fulfillment and gratitude to appreciate the things I have and where I came from a low-income, first-generation American. I desire this scholarship because it will be essential to my current undergraduate education. This scholarship will help me tremendously pay my tuition as unfortunately, I did not qualify for any financial aid assistance this year. So I do not need this scholarship I WANT this scholarship. Little or big every penny counts and every penny that I am able to get I am putting towards my education to be the first one in my family to graduate with a bachelor’s degree and be able to continue to give back to my community as have in the past years.
    Healthy Eating Scholarship
I love food so much that I can eat just about anything. Growing up when I was little I remember being really picky eater. From eating vegetable to eating not fully cooked eggs. Maybe my pallet was not as develop as it is now. At 35 years of age I will try just about anything. On the weekends when I have time ill yelp new locations that I have not tried as well as new food culture that I have yet to taste. Although I love food I do limit my consumption of certain foods. My family has a history of diabetes and unfortunately it took the life of my grandmother at a short young age of 58. My grandmother love cooking for all her children and grandchildren but she did not cook as healthy as she should have. I was 23 when my grandmother died and my eating habits were not very healthy at all. So I took it up my self to learn more about my health and my eating habits and what I could to not end up with our hereditary family diabetes. I have always been in sports I played soccer in middle school and I played softball in high school. But being in sports doesn’t always mean you are healthy. Being healthy starts from taking care of your body from the inside. I believe it is important to eat and have healthy habits because fruits and vegetable and unprocessed foods give you more and better healthier energy than quick easy sugary foods that will spike up your insulin resistance and then make you crash later on and feel tired. Secondly, healthier foods provide your with good nutrients that the body needs to generate the organs and live longer. Hence I get to live longer. Third, eating healthy protect and helps your body fight against diseases in my case diabetes and any prone additional causes it can cause. Finally, it is really important to me because I weight lift I go to the gym 5 to 6 times a week so me having a great healthy eating habits allow my body, my organs, and muscles to get the right source of energy from the foods that I feed my body. Yes it is really hard to eat healthy, but once you learn how bad it is to eat unhealthy you do your best to start making a habit in eating healthy. Creating a habit does take time but it’s the consistency that makes you a master at it. Once I instilled and implemented new eating habits in my routine, physically I look great and not just because I work out five to six times a week but because I eat healthy. I also notice that my mental health is definitely much better, it is more active, it is ready to learn new things gain some knowledge, it is more productive than when I was eating unhealthy foods. My motivation to get up everyday is consistent with my eating habit as well as with my physical and mental. Overall, taking care of yourself starting from simple as eating healthy you create healthy eating habits but you also create a healthy mindset that your body is your temple if you take care it, it will take care you.
    Taylor Swift ‘1989’ Fan Scholarship
Who does not love Taylor Swift, she has become a huge icon in the music industry breaking barriers in the country music industry as well as in the pop culture industry. She is recognized for her writing her own music based on her current life and experiences such as her love life, she has artistically reinvented music and has influenced many other artists. Taylor Swift is a true artist when a pen in her hand matches or comes in contact with a piece of paper. She has won many Grammy awards and has won several albums of the year as well and many other records such as having 29 Billboard Music Awards. I mention all of this because Taylor Swift was working really hard in her teenage years in her music career while I was in high school. Taylor Swift is just one year younger than me. It is such an inspiration and motivation to see some close in age achieve their goals and dreams. Like Taylor Swift, I have been working hard over the years to achieve my goals and dreams. Unfortunately, I did not and continue to not have the financial means to pursue my goals all at once. Over the years I have had to work full-time to be able to pay for college and although the journey continues to be a long road ahead it definitely does not discourage me at all. I graduated high school when Taylor Swift came out with her debut album "Taylor Swift". It took me six long years to graduate and obtain an associate's degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences and another one in Language Arts and Humanities. I later decided to go back to and obtain another associate's degree this time in Business Administration which I completed in July 2022. It felt great having to accomplish these small stepping stones in my life because I can say that I am the only one in my family that has ever graduated high school, attended community college and graduated, and now I have been accepted to a private university Point Loma Nazarene Univerity in San Diego, California. "1989" Taylor Swift's album "Wildest Dreams" is my favorite song in the album. Besides relating to the lyrics for the uncertain times, love, and looking for stability as a millennial. When I hear this song and the title I think about my current financial situation. I try to stay positive so the song in my wildest dreams I start to dream "once I complete my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, the many opportunities I will have and will be happier in the career path I choose". But until then I'll be in my "Wildest Dreams" signing along to Taylor Swift.
