Can you hear me? He barely spoke during the appointment. I was shadowing an endocrinologist at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Ann Arbor, watching quietly as she reviewed a patient’s chart. After a long pause, she gently asked, “Are you sleeping okay?” That one question opened the door. He began to share more than symptoms. He spoke about the weight of living with chronic illness, the fear, the loneliness. That moment showed me that medicine is not just about the science of the body. It is about the willingness to listen when no one else does. Can you hear me? I found myself asking that question after reading about surgeons performing operations by flashlight in the Congo. I could not look away. I co-founded my school’s Doctors Without Borders Club the next week. We began with awareness campaigns, posters, and presentations. A classmate told me, “I had no idea this was happening.” That moment stuck with me. I saw how education sparks compassion, and how one voice could lead others to care. Can you hear me? To turn awareness into action, I organized a letter-writing campaign to national representatives supporting continued USAID healthcare funding. I wanted my school community to understand that advocacy can create real change. I spoke directly with volunteer physicians who had served in crisis zones, listening closely to their stories. These conversations deepened my commitment to medicine and global health. Can you hear me? I have learned that to listen is not a passive act. It is a choice. Patients deserve more than a diagnosis. They deserve to be heard. Communities deserve more than aid. They deserve dignity. I want to be a physician who understands both. I want to ask the right questions and recognize the unspoken ones. I want to be trusted in moments when it matters most. Can you hear me? Medicine challenges every part of who I am. It calls for precision, empathy, discipline, and humility. I love problem-solving, but even more than that, I care about people. I care about whether someone feels seen in the exam room. I care about whether their story is heard in full. I care about whether I can be the kind of doctor who listens. This scholarship offers the opportunity for me to begin my journey with intention. Someday, I plan to work as a physician for Doctors Without Borders. I am ready to grow as a student, a leader, and a future physician. I want to learn beside others who believe that medicine is a human calling, not just a professional one. Can you hear me now?

Although I am a dancer, I am not graceful. I’ve been a Polish ethnic dancer since I was two years old. From the moment I could follow the choreographer's directions, I was skipping, spinning, and dancing the Polka on stage. I wore the same costumes as my parents and grandparents once did as I performed at festivals, recitals, and even baseball games at Comerica Park. Dance is usually associated with grace and elegance. Even my name, Anna, means “grace”. But my journey with dance has been far from graceful. When I was younger, I stumbled through performances and forgot my steps. As I got older, I memorized longer routines and tougher choreography. I found that no matter how many times I practiced, I would still fall. But I also learned how to get back up. When I started dancing, I mostly did it for my mom. She was the one who drove me 45 minutes to every practice, ironed my costumes, and braided my hair before shows. I fought with her about dance all the time. Between school, robotics, and everything else, I wanted to quit more than once. She never let me. Eventually, my mom told me that it was my choice. That’s when I realized I couldn’t stop. Dance had become a part of who I was. It connected me to my culture, mom, and my own identity. I carried my love for dance beyond the stage. Every year, I volunteer at my community's fall festival, selling Polish food to raise money for scholarships so that other kids can afford to dance. I’ve danced at senior homes to brighten the residents' days and at funerals to honor the people who I’ve lost. Dance is more than something I do; It’s my way of giving back. It also has strong ties to my Catholic faith. Each year, I celebrate Wigilia and Easter Mass with my dance group. We wear our traditional costumes to show the beauty of our culture and thank God for the chance to share it. I’ve come to understand grace differently through these moments. It’s not about how I look when I dance. It’s about why I keep dancing. This January, I’ll graduate as a debutante, marking sixteen years with my dance group. It’s strange to think about how long it’s been since that little girl in a too-big costume first stepped on stage. Although I am a dancer, I am not graceful. Grace isn’t found in perfect turns or smooth movements. It’s in the late nights, the thankful prayers, and the times I got back up when I fell. Dance has taught me that I wasn’t born with grace. It’s something I’ve built, one imperfect step at a time.

I have always been fascinated by the way the world works at a molecular level, which is why chemistry quickly became my favorite subject. The complex reactions that govern everything from the food we eat to the way our bodies function captivate me. This passion for chemistry has ultimately shaped my career aspirations: I want to become a doctor of medicine. My goal is not only to practice medicine but also to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people who lack access to the healthcare they deserve. I believe that the intersection of science, medicine, and social impact offers the most powerful path to helping others, and I am committed to contributing to this field as a woman in STEM. Throughout high school, I have sought opportunities to deepen my understanding of both the scientific and humanitarian aspects of medicine. One of my proudest achievements is founding a Doctors Without Borders club at my school. This initiative allows me to raise awareness about the critical issues of healthcare access in developing countries and the challenges faced by medical professionals in crisis zones. Through regular fundraisers, we have been able to send donations to Doctors Without Borders, supporting their efforts to provide medical care to those who need it most. This experience has not only sharpened my leadership skills but also deepened my sense of responsibility toward those who are often forgotten by the global healthcare system. In addition to my work with Doctors Without Borders, I am an active member of the American Red Cross, where I organize blood drives at my school. Donating blood is a personal commitment of mine, as I understand how life-saving even a single donation can be. By leading these drives, I aim to make it easier for others to give blood, and ultimately help save lives in my own community. Organizing these events has taught me the importance of community engagement and collaboration in achieving meaningful results. These experiences have also instilled in me the understanding that medicine is not just about treating illness but about serving people with compassion and dedication. The scholarship I am applying for would be an invaluable resource in helping me continue my educational journey and advance my career in medicine. As I pursue my undergraduate degree in a pre-medical track, this scholarship would provide financial relief, allowing me to focus more on my studies and extracurricular activities, rather than worrying about the financial burden of tuition. It would enable me to attend seminars, participate in medical research projects, and access other opportunities that are essential to gaining hands-on experience in healthcare and expanding my knowledge of the field. More importantly, this scholarship would help me stay focused on my long-term goal of becoming a doctor who can address healthcare disparities both locally and globally. As a woman in STEM, I am committed to challenging the barriers that women often face in these fields, and I hope to inspire other young women to pursue their passions in science and medicine. This scholarship would not only assist me financially but would also serve as an affirmation of my potential to make a significant impact on the future of healthcare. In conclusion, my passion for chemistry, commitment to service, and goal of becoming a doctor are the driving forces in my life. This scholarship would provide the support I need to continue working toward those goals and to one day contribute meaningfully to the medical field, particularly in improving healthcare access for underserved communities.
    Charli XCX brat Fan Scholarship
Charli XCX’s latest album, brat, is an electrifying blend of bold beats, infectious energy, and unapologetic self-expression. Among the standout tracks, “Vroom Vroom” is by far my favorite. This song encapsulates the essence of living life unapologetically and confidently, making it an anthem of empowerment. The lyrics, high-energy beat, and Charli’s fearless delivery all come together to create a track that has resonated deeply with me. “Vroom Vroom” opens with the irresistible invitation to "Let's ride," setting the tone for a carefree, high-octane experience. The repeated refrain of “they can't catch me” is a declaration of self-assurance, an invitation to live fast and without regret. Charli’s lyrics paint a vivid image of luxury, freedom, and confidence—symbols of a life lived unapologetically. Whether it’s the “lavender Lamborghini” or the “bubblegum-pink Ferrari,” Charli weaves a narrative of someone who is not only comfortable in her skin but also determined to live life on her own terms. It’s a metaphor for not just a fast car, but for a fast-paced life of confidence, independence, and taking the wheel of your own destiny. The song’s lyrics also highlight a sense of playful rebellion. Charli sings, “People are goin' loco when I’m pullin' up, takin' your papi,” a line that carries a sense of mischief and self-possession. There's an unspoken defiance in her tone, a reminder that she is in control and that the world is there to watch her take charge. What resonates with me about these lyrics is the way they encourage me to embrace my own sense of freedom. In a world that often imposes expectations on who we should be or how we should act, “Vroom Vroom” pushes the idea that it’s okay to live outside of those lines. It’s a reminder to prioritize joy, confidence, and to not hold back when it comes to expressing who you are. The track’s production, with its fast-paced beat and relentless energy, further complements this message of self-confidence. The driving rhythm and electronic hooks mirror the feeling of speed and momentum—just like a car racing down an open highway, the song creates a sense of forward motion. It’s a track that gets you pumped up, ready to take on anything that comes your way. It encourages me to stay focused on my own goals and not let distractions slow me down. In addition to the empowering message of self-assurance, “Vroom Vroom” is simply fun to listen to. It’s one of those songs that makes you feel unstoppable. The lyrics, paired with the infectious energy of the music, create a sense of freedom that feels both exhilarating and empowering. The chorus, especially the lines “All my life, I’ve been waitin’ for a good time,” is a celebration of living in the moment, enjoying the ride, and not worrying about what’s to come. It’s a call to take the wheel of your own life and drive it wherever you want to go. In conclusion, “Vroom Vroom” resonates with me because it represents everything I strive to embody in my own life: confidence, independence, and living unapologetically. Charli XCX’s fierce, playful energy in this song has been a constant reminder to keep pushing forward, to embrace my uniqueness, and to enjoy the ride, no matter how fast or unpredictable it may be. Every time I hear it, I’m reminded that it’s okay to be bold, to take risks, and to never slow down.
    Love Island Fan Scholarship
The Heart's Maze is an exciting new challenge for Love Island that tests both the physical endurance and emotional resilience of contestants. Set in a sprawling, intricately designed maze, this challenge combines strategy, teamwork, and trust while pushing the Islanders out of their comfort zones in the pursuit of love. Unlike typical challenges focused solely on physical ability or competition, the Heart's Maze is designed to add excitement and drama by examining the emotional dynamics and teamwork within relationships, making it a perfect addition to the show’s roster. The maze itself is divided into three distinct stages, each symbolizing a different phase of romantic relationships, and includes obstacles that push contestants to communicate and problem-solve under pressure. The first stage is called The Honeymoon Path, representing the early, easy days of a relationship. In this section, contestants must work together to navigate through a path filled with floating heart-shaped balloons and balance on platforms. These tasks test how well the contestants can cooperate in light-hearted, fun situations. The faster they complete this stage, the more time they’ll have in the later stages of the maze. This part sets the tone, allowing the couples to demonstrate how they function when everything feels easy and enjoyable. The second stage, The Emotional Rollercoaster, challenges the couples’ ability to work under stress. Here, contestants face unexpected obstacles like sudden walls that close in on them, forcing them to quickly adjust their path. They will also encounter emotional distractions—such as receiving heartfelt messages from loved ones or prompts asking them to discuss trust, vulnerability, or past relationships. This stage simulates the complexity and unpredictability of romantic relationships, requiring the contestants to communicate effectively and stay calm under pressure. Those who fail to collaborate efficiently will fall behind, adding tension and drama to the challenge. The final stage, The Trust Test, is the most intense and emotionally charged. In this phase, the maze splits into two paths: one is safe and clear, and the other is slightly more challenging but hidden. One partner must navigate the more difficult path blindfolded, while the other guides them verbally, emphasizing trust and reliance on each other. The couple must rely on their communication skills and ability to remain calm and supportive, especially when they face unexpected “pitfalls,” such as foam pits or water sprays. This test of trust mirrors the foundation of any relationship—being able to depend on one another even when facing challenges. After completing the maze, the final task involves solving a puzzle together, which contains symbols representing key aspects of relationships, such as loyalty, honesty, passion, and trust. The winning couple receives an exclusive, luxurious date night, which serves as a reward and an opportunity to further bond. The Heart’s Maze adds a unique dynamic to the show by blending physical challenges with emotional intelligence. Contestants are not only tested on how fast or strong they are but also on how well they communicate, problem-solve, and trust each other. This challenge creates intense drama, emotional breakthroughs, and genuine moments of connection, providing fresh excitement for both contestants and viewers alike. It also allows audiences to see the evolution of relationships in real-time, making it a perfect addition to the Love Island experience.
John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
From an early age, I’ve been fascinated by the human body and its complex systems. This curiosity has led me to pursue a career as an anesthesiologist, a path that combines my love for science with my desire to make a tangible impact on the lives of others. The role of an anesthesiologist is critical in ensuring patient safety and comfort, especially during surgeries and medical procedures, and I find great fulfillment in the opportunity to contribute to such a vital aspect of healthcare. What draws me most to anesthesiology is the direct impact I can have on patients' well-being. Anesthesiologists play a key role in managing pain, ensuring that patients are comfortable during surgery, and monitoring their vital signs to prevent complications. This responsibility is both challenging and rewarding, and it requires a deep understanding of the body’s systems, as well as the ability to make quick, informed decisions. I’m excited about the precision and care required in anesthesia, as it combines my passion for chemistry and biology with the practical application of medical knowledge. In addition to my interest in the scientific aspects of anesthesiology, I am motivated by the opportunity to be a woman in a STEM career. As I’ve progressed through my education, I have been inspired by the women in science and medicine who have broken barriers and proven that success in these fields is not limited by gender. Becoming an anesthesiologist is not just a professional goal for me; it is also a way to demonstrate that women belong in STEM and to encourage others to pursue careers in science and medicine. The presence of more women in fields like anesthesiology can help create a more diverse and inclusive healthcare system, and I want to be part of that change. Wicked Fan Scholarship
The musical Wicked has been a transformative influence on my life, not only because of its captivating story and powerful songs but also due to its deep themes of inclusion and popularity. The show speaks to anyone who has ever felt like an outsider or struggled to fit into society's preconceived notions. As I’ve grown, the messages in Wicked have resonated with me on a personal level, inspiring me to embrace my unique qualities and to value authenticity over societal expectations. One of the most significant themes of Wicked is the idea that true strength and worth come from within, rather than from conforming to popular ideals. The character of Elphaba, the misunderstood green-skinned witch, symbolizes the outsider who is judged based on her appearance and labeled as different. Throughout the musical, Elphaba’s journey of self-acceptance is a central arc. She refuses to be molded into someone else’s idea of who she should be, and in doing so, she challenges societal expectations. As I’ve watched Elphaba grow in confidence, I’ve learned to embrace my own identity, even when it doesn’t align with what others may expect from me. I’ve learned that my value isn’t determined by whether I’m popular or accepted by everyone, but rather by my ability to remain true to myself. In Wicked, the tension between inclusion and exclusion is a constant thread. Elphaba is ostracized for her appearance, while Glinda, the "good" witch, is celebrated for her beauty and charm. Initially, Glinda is concerned more with her social standing and popularity, but over time, she realizes that true friendship and loyalty are far more valuable than superficial acclaim. The friendship between Elphaba and Glinda is a reflection of how people from different backgrounds and experiences can come together to support each other, despite external pressures. This theme has deeply affected the way I view relationships and popularity. I’ve come to understand that genuine connections are far more important than fitting into a particular social group or seeking validation from others. *Wicked* has also changed the way I view myself in relation to others. In the past, I often felt the need to fit in or be accepted by the "right" people, but the musical taught me that inclusion isn’t about changing who you are to fit a mold; it’s about finding the courage to be yourself and celebrating others for who they are. Through the characters of Elphaba and Glinda, I’ve realized that popularity is fleeting, but authenticity and kindness are timeless. I now prioritize my own sense of integrity and the bonds I share with those who appreciate me for who I truly am. As a huge fan of Wicked, I can’t help but admire the emotional depth and complexity of the characters, and the music is an added bonus. Songs like "Defying Gravity" and "For Good" have become anthems for me, reminding me to never settle for less than I deserve and to always stay true to my values. The themes of inclusion, self-empowerment, and the importance of genuine relationships have changed my life in profound ways, teaching me to embrace both my individuality and the people who support me along the way. Ultimately, Wicked has encouraged me to stop seeking external validation and to find peace in the beauty of being uniquely myself.
Joanne Pransky Celebration of Women in Robotics
The air in the community center was thick with tension as Sophia Reynolds sat at a long table with a group of fellow participants. It was the last day of their retraining program, a frantic week of coding and robotic maintenance designed to prepare workers like her for a future dominated by automation. The room, filled with the hum of computers and the flicker of screens, felt both foreign and exciting. Sophia’s heart raced as she adjusted the collar of her shirt, trying to mask her nerves. Just a week ago, she had been a factory worker for nearly a decade, watching the machines that had taken her job become more sophisticated with each passing day. Now, she was about to demonstrate her newfound skills on a robotic arm named Rhea—an emblem of both hope and uncertainty. The instructor, Aaron, called everyone’s attention. “Today, you’ll program Rhea to perform a series of tasks. This isn’t just about learning; it’s about showcasing what you can do.” His voice was enthusiastic, yet Sophia sensed the weight behind it. The success of their training depended not only on their performance but on whether they could envision a role in a future where humans and robots worked side by side. As they gathered around the station housing Rhea, Sophia felt the pressure of expectation. The sleek metal arm, equipped with a series of sensors and motors, gleamed under the fluorescent lights. She could almost hear the whispers of doubt in her mind: *What if I fail? What if Rhea executes my commands flawlessly, yet I still don’t belong in this new world?* With trembling hands, she connected her laptop to the robotic arm. The screen flickered to life, displaying the interface. “Let’s start with the basics,” Aaron encouraged. “Remember what we learned about movement and precision.” Sophia took a deep breath and focused on the code in front of her. She recalled the hours spent learning the intricacies of programming—a language that had once seemed impenetrable but now felt like a lifeline. As her fingers danced over the keyboard, she crafted the commands that would guide Rhea through a simple sequence: pick up a small block, rotate, and place it down. “Okay, Rhea,” she said softly, as if the robot could hear her anxiety. “Let’s do this.” With a click, she executed the program. Rhea whirred to life, its joints moving fluidly as it grasped the block with precise pressure. Sophia’s heart leapt in her chest. “It’s working!” The arm rotated, displaying the elegance of motion she had studied, and then gently placed the block back down. A wave of relief washed over her, followed by an exhilarating sense of achievement. “Great job, Sophia!” Aaron’s voice cut through her moment of triumph. But she barely heard him; she was already drafting the next set of commands, eager to push the boundaries of what Rhea could do. As the session progressed, Sophia lost herself in the rhythm of coding and execution. Each task—each block picked and placed—built her confidence. The fear that had haunted her for weeks began to dissolve, replaced by a newfound determination. She was no longer just a displaced factory worker; she was a creator, an innovator. However, the moment took a turn when she attempted a more complex sequence: having Rhea stack three blocks in a tower. The first two went smoothly, but as Rhea reached for the third block, a malfunction triggered an error in the code. The arm twitched erratically, knocking over the carefully balanced tower. The room fell silent. Sophia’s heart sank. She felt all eyes on her, the weight of their judgment pressing down. “You can fix this,” she whispered to herself, though doubt crept in. *What if I can’t? What if I’m not cut out for this?* Aaron stepped forward, his expression reassuring. “It’s okay, Sophia. Mistakes are part of learning. Let’s troubleshoot together.” He guided her through the process of identifying the error, encouraging her to analyze her code and understand what went wrong. As they worked side by side, Sophia felt a spark of camaraderie. In that moment, the distinction between teacher and student blurred. Aaron wasn’t just an instructor; he was a partner in her journey. With his guidance, she corrected the code and prepared to run the program again. “Let’s try it one more time,” she said, her voice steadier now. This time, as Rhea executed the sequence, Sophia held her breath. The robot moved with precision, lifting the first block, then the second, and finally reaching for the third. Time seemed to slow as Rhea delicately positioned it atop the stack. And then, as the final block clicked into place, a cheer erupted from the group. Sophia’s heart swelled with pride as she stood there, breathless. She had not only overcome her fears but had forged a connection with the technology that had once threatened her livelihood. “See?” Aaron smiled. “You did it! This is what the future looks like—collaboration, creativity, and resilience.” As the applause echoed around her, Sophia felt a profound sense of purpose. The robots were not merely machines; they were tools that could enhance human capabilities, paving the way for new opportunities. In that instant, she understood that the key to navigating this robotic age lay in embracing change rather than resisting it. After the demonstration, the group gathered for a debriefing. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement and newfound hope. Sophia shared her experience, emphasizing how critical it was for workers to adapt and embrace technology as a partner. “Let’s not forget,” she concluded, looking around at her peers, “that our experiences and insights are just as valuable as any machine’s efficiency. We must advocate for a future where we all thrive—where humans and robots can coexist.” The nods and murmurs of agreement fueled her conviction. As they exited the community center, Sophia felt a renewed sense of belonging. The robotic arm, once a symbol of displacement, now represented the possibility of a future built on collaboration.
    Nickels Student Athlete Scholarship
Dancing has been a central part of my life since I was two years old. From the moment I stepped onto the stage for my first recital, I felt an indescribable thrill. Dance became my passion, my means of expression, and the source of my joy. However, as I transitioned into high school, balancing my dedication to dance with academic responsibilities posed significant challenges that ultimately shaped my character and taught me invaluable lessons. Throughout my early years, dance was a world of creativity and exploration. I loved gliding across the floor and the excitement of performing for an audience. As I entered high school, my dance commitments intensified. With multiple classes, rehearsals, and performances, I often faced a hectic schedule that left little room for anything else. The pressure to maintain good grades while excelling in dance created a constant tug-of-war between my passions and academic obligations. One particularly challenging semester stands out. I was rehearsing for a dance recital while preparing for final exams. Late nights spent studying and early mornings dedicated to dance left me exhausted. I often felt overwhelmed, struggling to keep up with my schoolwork while pouring my heart into my routines. The balancing act felt nearly impossible, and there were times when I feared I was falling short in both areas. Despite these struggles, dance was more than just a hobby; it was a vital part of who I was. It provided an outlet to express my emotions, relieve stress, and connect with my peers. The joy of performing reminded me why I started dancing in the first place. This realization pushed me to find ways to manage my time better. I began creating a structured schedule, carving out specific hours for studying, practicing, and some much-needed downtime. As I honed my time management skills, I learned the importance of setting priorities. I realized I needed to communicate openly with my teachers about my commitments, seeking help when necessary. This opened new channels of support, allowing me to excel academically without sacrificing my passion for dance. I found that by working diligently and efficiently, I could fulfill both my academic responsibilities and my artistic aspirations. Additionally, the challenges I faced deepened my appreciation for dance. During stressful times, I often turned to movement as a way to reconnect with myself. Whether improvising in my living room or practicing choreography in the studio, dancing became a source of solace. It reminded me of the joy that initially drew me to the art form, helping me navigate the pressures of high school life. Through these experiences, I developed resilience and learned the value of hard work. The late nights and early mornings paid off, leading to successful performances and solid grades. More importantly, I emerged with a greater understanding of my passions and the importance of balance. I learned that pursuing what I love does not mean neglecting other responsibilities; it requires dedication, planning, and sometimes sacrifice. In conclusion, my journey as a high school dancer has been marked by challenges that tested my limits but also enriched my life. The struggle to balance dance and academics taught me essential skills such as time management, resilience, and self-expression. As I continue to dance and grow, I carry these lessons with me, knowing that the dedication I put into both my art and my studies will shape my future in ways I have yet to discover. Dance is not just an activity; it is a vital part of who I am, and I am grateful for every lesson learned along the way.
    GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
In Olivia Rodrigo’s album *GUTS*, one lyric that resonates deeply with my teenage experience is, “I despise my rotten mind and how much it worships you.” This line captures the essence of adolescence, reflecting the internal conflict and emotional turmoil that often accompany young love and infatuation. Rodrigo’s ability to articulate these complex feelings speaks to the struggles many teenagers face while navigating relationships and self-identity. The lyric reveals the painful juxtaposition between admiration and self-loathing that can characterize infatuation. As teenagers, we often find ourselves drawn to individuals who may not reciprocate our feelings or who contribute to our emotional struggles. The phrase “rotten mind” evokes a sense of internal chaos, illustrating how our thoughts can spiral when we become overly fixated on someone. In my own experience, I have grappled with similar feelings, where admiration for someone can cloud my judgment, leading to self-doubt and frustration. Rodrigo’s words resonate because they reflect the reality of feeling trapped in a cycle of obsession that undermines our self-worth. This lyric also highlights the intensity of teenage emotions, which can feel all-consuming. Adolescence is a time of heightened sensitivity and passion, where feelings can shift rapidly and unpredictably. The line captures the overwhelming nature of these emotions, illustrating how easily they can lead to inner conflict. I have experienced moments where my feelings for someone have overshadowed my own needs and desires, causing me to question my worth and my decisions. Rodrigo’s candid expression of this struggle makes it relatable and affirming, reminding me that I am not alone in feeling this way. Furthermore, the idea of “worship” in the lyric points to the imbalance that can exist in relationships during adolescence. Young love often leads us to place others on pedestals, sometimes at the expense of our own self-respect. The lyric serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of maintaining a sense of self amidst the intense emotions that come with infatuation. Rodrigo’s raw honesty encourages me to reflect on my own relationships and to strive for balance, ensuring that I do not lose sight of my identity in the pursuit of connection with others. Rodrigo’s portrayal of these feelings emphasizes the significance of emotional honesty. In a world where teenagers may feel pressured to hide their vulnerabilities, her willingness to express such raw emotions creates a sense of validation. The lyric encapsulates the turmoil of adolescent love while encouraging listeners to confront their feelings rather than suppress them. This authenticity fosters a sense of community among young people who share similar experiences, allowing us to feel seen and understood. In conclusion, Olivia Rodrigo’s lyric, “I despise my rotten mind and how much it worships you,” powerfully encapsulates the essence of adolescence by addressing the internal struggles of infatuation and self-identity. The emotional depth of this line resonates with my own experiences, highlighting the complexities of young love and the importance of self-worth. As we navigate the tumultuous journey of adolescence, Rodrigo’s ability to articulate these feelings not only captures the challenges we face but also inspires us to embrace our emotions and cultivate a healthier sense of self in our relationships.
    Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
Billie Eilish’s music has a unique ability to evoke deep emotions and connect with listeners on a personal level. Among her extensive discography, three songs stand out to me: “What Was I Made For?”, “Birds of a Feather,” and “Happier Than Ever.” Each of these tracks resonates with my experiences and emotions in distinct ways, showcasing Eilish’s profound songwriting and vulnerability. “What Was I Made For?” from the *Barbie* soundtrack is a poignant reflection on identity and purpose. The song’s haunting melody and introspective lyrics create a sense of melancholy that mirrors my own struggles with self-discovery. The line, “I’m just a girl, I’m just a girl,” encapsulates the feeling of being lost in the expectations placed on us by society. This sentiment resonates with my journey of trying to understand my own identity amidst external pressures. Eilish’s exploration of vulnerability in this song encourages me to embrace my uncertainties and search for meaning in my life. Similarly, “Birds of a Feather” touches on the theme of connection and the complexities of relationships. Eilish’s lyrics, “We’re both in the same storm, but we’re not in the same boat,” highlight the idea that while we may share similar struggles, our experiences are uniquely individual. This line resonates with me deeply, as it reflects my understanding of the diverse challenges people face, even when they seem similar on the surface. The song reminds me of the importance of empathy and connection, encouraging me to reach out to others and understand their perspectives. Eilish’s ability to articulate these feelings makes me feel less alone in my own experiences. “Happier Than Ever” represents a turning point in Eilish’s discography, capturing the emotional journey of breaking free from toxic relationships. The powerful contrast between the soft verses and the explosive chorus emphasizes the liberation that comes with self-acceptance. The lyric, “When I’m away from you, I’m happier than ever,” resonates with my own experiences of letting go of people who no longer serve my well-being. This realization has been transformative for me; it encourages the understanding that self-worth often means making difficult decisions about whom to keep in my life. Eilish’s raw emotion and honesty in this song inspire me to prioritize my happiness and well-being above all else. The common thread among these three songs is Eilish’s ability to express vulnerability and strength simultaneously. Each track reflects a different aspect of the human experience—searching for identity, seeking connection, and pursuing happiness. Her music often feels like a safe space where I can confront my feelings and find solace in knowing that I’m not alone in my struggles. Moreover, Eilish’s artistry extends beyond just her lyrics. The atmospheric production in each of these songs enhances their emotional impact. The delicate instrumentation in “What Was I Made For?” creates a reflective mood, while the dynamic shifts in “Happier Than Ever” mirror the emotional highs and lows of personal growth. This combination of lyrical depth and musical innovation is what draws me to her work and makes it resonate so deeply. In conclusion, Billie Eilish’s songs “What Was I Made For?”, “Birds of a Feather,” and “Happier Than Ever” profoundly resonate with my own experiences and emotions. Each track explores themes of identity, connection, and self-acceptance, encouraging listeners to confront their feelings and embrace their journeys. Eilish’s vulnerability and authenticity not only provide comfort but also inspire me to navigate my own life with honesty and courage. Her music serves as a reminder that it’s okay to feel deeply and to seek happiness on my own terms.

    Chappell Roan Superfan Scholarship
Chappell Roan’s song “Good Luck Babe” is a vibrant anthem of self-empowerment and resilience that has profoundly inspired me. The track encapsulates the struggles of navigating relationships and the importance of self-worth, resonating with anyone who has faced the complexities of love and self-identity. Through its catchy melody and poignant lyrics, Roan encourages listeners to embrace their true selves and stand firm against adversity. One of the most striking aspects of “Good Luck Babe” is its candid exploration of vulnerability. Roan’s lyrics highlight the emotional toll that comes with unrequited love and betrayal. The line, “I gave you everything, but you still turned away,” speaks to the pain of investing deeply in someone who doesn’t reciprocate. This sentiment resonates with my own experiences, reminding me that it’s essential to recognize when a relationship is one-sided. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, the song inspires listeners to reclaim their strength and move forward, which is a powerful message I have internalized. The chorus, “Good luck babe, you’re gonna need it,” serves as a declaration of self-empowerment. It’s a bold statement that emphasizes self-sufficiency and the importance of moving on from toxic situations. This line has encouraged me to reflect on my own relationships and consider what I truly deserve. The idea that one can wish someone well while also recognizing their own worth is liberating. It reinforces the notion that I have the power to choose what is best for me, rather than settling for less than I deserve. Roan’s music also embraces themes of authenticity and self-acceptance. In a world that often pressures individuals to conform, her lyrics encourage embracing one’s true identity. When she sings, “I’m not afraid to be myself,” it resonates deeply with me. This assertion is not just about individuality; it’s about celebrating differences and being unapologetically oneself. Her fearless expression serves as a reminder to reject societal expectations and to foster an environment where self-love and authenticity thrive. The upbeat production of “Good Luck Babe” enhances the uplifting message of the lyrics. Spinal Recovery Center - Excellence in Action Scholarship
Carl Jung once said, “Medicine cures diseases, but only doctors can cure patients.” This resonates deeply with me because I am passionate about helping others by applying my knowledge of the world around me. This commitment has led me to dedicate my studies to science and medicine, aiming to contribute to a field marked by continuous discovery and to provide compassionate care to my fellow human beings. The pillar I hold in the highest regard is the desire to be an ethical learner and teacher, which I believe is essential for the advancement of modern medicine. I have encountered many ethical dilemmas both inside and outside the classroom, but one experience, in particular, exemplifies my personal growth. On my very first day of clinical shadowing, I was assigned to work with an endocrinologist who is deeply committed to her patients and research. Upon entering the VA hospital to assist with inpatient rounds, I approached the day with specific expectations. Being a logical and efficient person, I aimed to absorb as much information as possible in the shortest time. In the first patient room I visited, I met a veteran recovering from a gastrectomy. While I was intrigued by the medical plans outlined by the doctor, what struck me more was the connection I made with the patient. As we talked, I learned not just about his procedure but also about his life—his family, career, and hobbies. I could see that the few minutes I spent conversing with him significantly lifted his spirits. This conversation sparked a profound realization in me. To this day, I consciously strive to engage with patients who wish to talk. I believe that any effort, no matter how small, is worthwhile if it can benefit a patient. I am not just learning how to cure diseases; I am learning how to serve people and positively impact their lives. As I continued visiting more patients and hearing their stories, I began to reflect on the critical issue of healthcare accessibility in the United States. During my time at the hospital, I witnessed a relentless push to discharge as many patients as possible due to a shortage of beds. With 45% of American adults struggling to afford healthcare (westhealth.org), I find this situation utterly unacceptable. No individual in need should be denied life-saving care simply because of financial constraints. Ethical physicians are vital to the future of our society. We need professionals who recognize patients as people and treat them with dignity, regardless of their economic status. As a future physician, I am committed to doing everything within my power to provide accessible healthcare for all. By collaborating with the brilliant minds of my generation, I aspire to contribute to meaningful progress in the medical field. While no single person can ensure affordable, quality treatment for everyone, I am determined to be part of a movement of young scientists working toward a better future.
    Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
When people used to tell me that reading is fun, I refused to believe them. As someone who hated reading with a passion, the fact that reading could be a form of entertainment was completely alien to me. How could something so mundane be useful anywhere outside of the classroom? I held firm to these beliefs until I came across the #BookTok community. At first, I was drawn in by the short snippets of book that were read aloud. Every short I watched left me wanting to know more. Eventually, I was so curious about a book that I decided to check it out from my local library. The title was Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I was instantly hooked on this book from the moment I read the first page. For the first time in my life, I found myself unable to put a book down. After Shatter Me, I went on to read the rest of the series. My newfound interest in reading did not end there as I began to read more popular titles that I saw #BookTok. These included The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, and A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass. I consider all of these titles must haves for readers across the world. They have inspired me and nurtured my love of reading. I am extremely grateful to have been impacted by the #BookTok community. Since beginning to read recreationally, I have noticed that I feel more creative, expressive, and passionate about my work in and out of the classroom. What makes this community so special is its ability to connect with readers of different ages and backgrounds. No matter what mood I am in, #BookTok always has the perfect genre recommendation for me. Seeing other people my age discuss books has also encouraged me to read more so that I can discuss with them. This community is extremely inclusive and welcoming to every type of reader. I have grown from a person who hates reading to someone who loves books. Reading has changed my life for the better, and I never could have started to enjoy it without #BookTok. I have never experienced a culture that encourages interest and engagement in reading like this community is able to. Because of its wonderful recommendations, inclusive environment, and diverse genres, my ideal bookshelf has been completely formed by #BookTok.
    “Stranger Things” Fanatic Scholarship
What qualities do we look for in a team? When faced with a challenge, there are three essential traits: strength, reason, and cooperation. Without these, a team cannot function. As an avid fan of Stranger Things, I know that there are many characters in the show who are qualified to fight the supernatural. However, my dream team provides the perfect balance that will be ready to face any unknown creature. My first selection would be Eleven, because of her various powers. No matter the size or strength of the monster, Eleven will be victorious with her telekinetic and telepathic abilities. Throughout the show, El has proved invaluable to the cast as she defeated the Demogorgon, the Mind Flayer, and One. Although Eleven is undeniably strong, she tends to let her emotions cloud her judgment. Her lack of communication skills creates a barrier between her and the other characters. Because of this, she needs to be balanced out by a more logically minded team member. The second character I would include is Lucas Sinclair. As a member of the original Hellfire Club, he has witnessed every supernatural threat from the show. Lucas’ most valuable trait is his ability to think clearly and concisely. He would be the voice of reason on the team. With his unique abilities, the squad would be able to formulate more affective plans. With Eleven’s strength and Lucas’ brain, the team should be unstoppable. However, there is a barrier between the two members. Lucas has a very difficult time believing in the supernatural, whereas El embodies all that is odd and unusual. Their differences would divide the team and inhibit strategies. The last member of the team is Mike. He will do anything for his friends, even if it means putting himself in danger. He would be able to unite the team with his unwavering dedication and determination. He may not be the strongest physically, but without his ability to bring people together the team wouldn’t survive. A good team needs three things: cooperation, logic, and strength. Mike, Eleven, and Lucas are the perfect combination of these necessary qualities. Success does not depend on the individual, but on the team as a whole. Because of this, I know that my team would be able to face any kind of threat, supernatural or otherwise.
"The Summer I Turned Pretty" Fan Scholarship
Who should Belly end up with? For most, the answer is obvious after reading or watching The Summer I Turned Pretty Series. It is reiterated many times that Belly and Conrad are destined to be together. From Belly’s childhood crush to the end of the electric relationship, it is clear that the pair had chemistry. However, I am certain that Jeremiah is Belly’s true soulmate. This is because of Conrad’s inability to support Belly as well as Jeremiah’s undeniable dependability. Throughout the entire series, Conrad proved to be an unreliable friend. He was selfish during important moments in Belly’s life, such as her senior prom. He decided to break up with her then, when he could have done so at a less important time. He also ghosted Belly multiple times whenever something in his life went wrong. When the summer house was in danger of being sold, he worried Belly so much that she lied to her own mother in order to check on him. The best parts of Belly and Conrad’s relationship may seem perfect, but the lows reflect the highs. Conrad only seems to love Belly when it is convenient for him. Conrad’s lack of emotional control in difficult situations carries over to his other relationships as well. When Susanna was sick, he shut down and refused to talk to anyone. Jeremiah, on the other hand, supported his mother and urged her to seek treatment. It could be argued that Jeremiah lacked dependability during the debutante ball when he didn’t dance with Belly. However, he was under immense stress at that moment because of his mother’s diagnosis. He also apologized profusely afterward for missing the dance. This was only a small infraction compared to the multiple instances where Conrad proved himself unreliable. The way each of the boys faced impossible situations is a testament to each of their characters. Jeremiah also valued his friendship with Belly long before he wanted to date her. He hung out with her all the time, and helped her practice driving during the summers. Conrad never displayed this level of friendship with Belly. Friendship is an extremely important part of all relationships, and it is clear that Belly had formed a stronger bond with Jeremiah that she did with Conrad. Each of these relationships were important for Belly in different ways. Her relationship with Conrad was a childhood infatuation, or a first love. It helped her learn about who she is, but it was never meant to last forever. Belly’s relationship with Jeremiah was stable and more reminiscent of what a real relationship should look like. She never had to worry if Jeremiah would love her one day and hate her the next. Conrad and Jeremiah both had their faults, but in the end Jeremiah was able to offer Belly a stable relationship, while Conrad could not. This is why I strongly side with Team Jeremiah. Belly deserves dependable love, not an emotional rollercoaster. This is something that only Jeremiah can give her. Despite the ending of the series, I will always believe that Belly belongs with the boy who was always there for her, no matter what.
    Nikhil Desai Reinventing Healthcare Scholarship
I have always been told to avoid going to the hospital by whatever means necessary. My mom would warn me that a ride in an ambulance was more than what my family could afford. What is the use of the advanced healthcare we have in the United States if many cannot afford it? How can everything cost so much, even after insurance? Why would my own mother rather risk driving me to the hospital than simply call an emergency vehicle? The price of medicine in our country is outright unacceptable. Just last month, I had to be treated for chemical burns. The bill for one of my prescriptions alone was $568. That was the cost of a single tube of ointment. I received multiple prescriptions for my treatment. Cost is not only a problem for my family. According to the Commonwealth fun, over half of working Americans struggle to afford their healthcare. Why are so many people struggling with such a basic need? Most of the time, medicine is not an optional purchase. I believe that the healthcare system and pharmaceutical companies need to take action to make healthcare more affordable for all Americans. No one should have to worry about whether or not a broken arm will bury them in unimaginable debt. To do this, the culture of greed in the healthcare system needs to change. The patent for insulin was sold for only one dollar. However, insulin costs an average of $58 for one refill today. The sale of the initial patent proves that greed does not have to be the basis of medicine in our country. My hope is that someday, all medicine can be shared like the selflessness sharing of that patent. I plan to conduct medical research as well as advocate for affordable treatment in the United States. There should be no reason for anyone to worry about the cost of medicine when they should be focused on their or their family members’ physical wellbeing. Cost needs to be an afterthought to the actual health of patients. With enough support for affordable healthcare, the system can change. All we need to do is be persistent, continue to come up with innovative solutions, and speak out agains corporate greed. I aspire to use my college education to change the world of medicine for the better. Affordability and accessibility of medicine for all will have an impact on lives all throughout America.
    Nintendo Super Fan Scholarship
My dad is very passionate about Nintendo games. He and I have spent countless hours playing together on the Nintendo Switch, the Wii U, the Wii, Gameboys, Gameboy Colors, and the original Nintendo Entertainment System. My favorite game to play with him has always been the infamously difficult Battle Toads on the NES. It is a cooperative game similar to Mario. My dad first introduced this game to me as a child, because my favorite animal was a frog. Little did I know of how difficult it was. The first time my father and I attempted to play, we made it past the first level without losing any lives. My dad was shocked because he had expected to lose immediately. He had previously played this game, but he had never been able to beat it. Our initial success made my dad determined to win. In level two however, we failed almost instantly. My dad had forgotten to mention that when you shoot in the game, you can still hit your teammate. I began to jokingly shoot at my dad. He tried to warn me, but it was too late. I had already cost us all of our shared lives. It was an NES game, so we had to restart from the beginning. We did eventually beat the game many years later, but I will never forget the first time we played. My dad and I still laugh about how we lost. This memory will live on with me forever, because most of the time failure is more memorable and beneficial than success. The creator of Battle Toads truly gave me a challenge. I know that I will face many challenges in the future, especially in college. However, one day I know that I will be able to look back on my failures and laugh with my friends and family. Nintendo has taught me something truly invaluable. I will always be grateful for that impossible game and the first play-through that changed my life.
    1989 (Taylor's Version) Fan Scholarship
I am a sentimental person. When the seniors walked out of school for the last time this spring, it brought me to tears. It was hard to see my friends move on to a different stage in their lives. This is why I connect with the song Wildest Dreams from 1989 by Taylor Swift. To me, this song is about saying goodbye to something that you love, while also looking forward to a bright future. When I entered high school, my main mentality was to shout “let’s get out of this town” as soon as I finished. I thought that I was ready to be independent and start a career. Obviously, this was not the case for a 14 year old girl. However, even then, I could see the “end as it began”. I knew that once my four years of high school were over, my life would forever change. I never would’ve guessed that these years would have passed so quickly, but “nothing lasts forever”. Now, I am faced with only a short time before I have to say goodbye to everything and everyone I know. I plan to move out of state for college, so I truly will be leaving my life behind. I think that this experience is bittersweet, because it is an important part of growing up. My memories of high school will certainly “follow me around”, but life after will also be filled with more good experiences. My journey in high school has been a difficult one. For elementary and middle school, I attended a small private school with class sizes of less than 15 students. In high school, I began the International Baccalaureate Program in a public school. Transitioning to a much more diverse and rigorous environment was a challenge, but in the end, high school proved to exceed my “wildest dreams”. I was given opportunities that have changed my life for the better. My positive experience with high school is what makes saying goodbye to it so bittersweet. I will remember it for the rest of my life, just as Taylor states in the song. I most definitely will revisit what I learned about life in high school, “even if it’s just pretending” from the past. I hope that my dreams continue into the future. I am sure that when I look back on college, I will feel the same way. Taylor’s song perfectly embodies my feelings about saying goodbye. I connect to the song not just with my relationships, but with my life as a whole. I aspire to be able to “see these feelings again”, because I believe they indicate my growth as a person. “My last request” is that you consider my essay, because this song has truly inspired me throughout this year.
    GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
As a huge Olivia Rodrigo fan, there are countless lines that I would like to choose for this prompt. However, the lyric that resonates with my teenage experience the most is the line “you have everything and you still want more,” from the Grudge. These words capture the essence of growing up, because they demonstrate the passion, dedication, and frustration of adolescents in America. The first part of the phrase, “you have everything”, is connected with the universal experience of trying to live up to expectations while growing older. I have dedicated countless hours to studying, extracurriculars, and personal relationships. I feel, as many teens do, pressured to get into a good school and obtain a high paying career. The older I get, the more important these things seem to become. I bear the weight of expectations from my family, friends, and teachers. I have used every ounce of my being to become the person that others want me to be. This lyric is also an ode to the persistence of young generations. I have been willing to do anything that is required in order to be successful. Today I am supposed to be on summer break, but instead I am writing an application for a scholarship. There is a bittersweet sacrifice of free time and enjoyment that is prevalent with teenagers today. I can see this in myself and my friends, especially as we begin to look at colleges and application processes. As a 16 year old girl, I would rather be doing something else right now. But I have made up my mind to give all that I have, including time, in order to achieve my dreams. The second part of the lyric, “and you still want more” is a testament to one of the most difficult parts of adolescence. Sometimes, it feels like no matter what I do, it will never be good enough. There will always be someone better than me. I could have put in an extra hour studying, participates in another extracurricular, or reread my essay one more time. These types of thoughts can create spirals that have negative effects on my mental health. As a part of growing up, inadequacy is one of the feelings that I have learned to accept and manage. I have grown as a person in my teenage years, in the sense that I can now understand that it is okay to “not be good enough”. It is true that the world will always ask more of me. However, that is nothing to despair about, as it is something out of my control. Instead, I can now listen to these lyrics and understand what they truly mean to me. There is always going to be room for improvement, so I need to give my best every day, in everything that I do. Even when I think I have nothing left to give, I can still remember that my effort is enough. I believe I can speak for all hardworking teenagers when I say, we are doing everything that we can. It takes guts to be yourself while you grow up, and it takes guts to pursue your dreams. I hope that my gut can help me through college and whatever comes next.
