Bio

My Future Goals I am currently a Freshman in my second semester at Indiana State University. I am excited to continue my post secondary education in order to fulfill my dream of becoming an elementary teacher. I have wanted to be an elementary school teacher for several years. I have been a Vacation Bible School teacher assistant for several years, a team leader at MAYN Summer School, and have babysat for different young children in our community. Also, my sister is six years younger than me. I have watched her grow through her elementary years and given her assistance when she needed it. I discovered quite some time ago how much I enjoy working with and helping children. My mother and my cousin are elementary teachers; therefore, I have been able to spend a great deal of time helping them and becoming aware of the responsibilities related to teaching young children. I am proud to be an empathetic person. My mother has raised me to be involved in politics, stand up for those who don’t have a voice and care for those that are in need.

      Selma Luna Memorial Scholarship
I grew up in a family of teachers. My grandma taught High School business for 36 years. My mom is a preschool Special Education teacher. I have watched them throughout the years and have seen how they fall in love with their students and have a true passion for teaching. This has inspired me to be an educator as well. I plan to inspire my students the way I have seen my family do. Showing love, compassion and care to all students is the most important aspect of teaching, in my opinion. These things have to occur before any academics can be taught. Thank you for your time.
      Bold Loving Others Scholarship
I absolutely love and adore my family and friends! They do a great deal for me. This includes listening when I need to vent, helping with difficult homework, and providing for me in a multitude of opportunities to be there for them. I love spending time with my mom, sister, aunt and cousin. We enjoy playing board games and cards. This time spent together has created a bond that we love; we rely on each other in good times and in bad, take care of each when sick, and check in on a daily basis to say have a good day, love you, etc. I believe these things listed above are extremely important in showing my circle that they are loved and supported by me. I know this to be true because I feel loved and supported by them as well. It is a wonderful feeling for all of us!
      Bold Study Strategies Scholarship
I would like to begin by saying I strongly believe that best way to be successful in college is to attend all classes unless of an emergency. I am 4 weeks shy of completing my freshman year at Indiana State University and am proud to say I have missed one class the entire year. Something I have learned as a new college student is to ask questions and be involved in the discussions during class time. This has helped me to better understand the concept being taught. I have also learned throughout my high school career and this year that study groups are an amazing tool. What one person completely understood during lecture may be a concept I am struggling with. With that being said, I may understand a concept that a fellow classmate is struggling with. Study groups allow myself and my peer classmates to share ideas, discuss concepts and help each other learn/study. The items I have listed have helped me earn a 4.0 during my current freshman year at Indiana State University. Thank you for your time.
      Diabetes Impact Scholarship
I am enrolled at Indiana State University and am majoring in Elementary Education. I was diagnosed with diabetes at age 12. It was a very scary, difficult and sometimes painful time in my life. With my parents love and support, I managed to persevere and am now living a happy, healthy life! After being diagnosed, I had to learn all about my new lifestyle changes. This included dietary planning, sugar checks and insulin injections. As a student, I am so thankful for all the wonderful teachers, staff and school nurses that helped me on a daily basis stay healthy and happy so that I could be successful in school. With that being said, as a teacher with a autoimmune disease, I plan to show care, courage and love to any students that cross my path with an autoimmune disease such as diabetes. Having the knowledge of what it takes to be successful and healthy but also the empathy to know what the student is going through will help me be, not only a successful teacher, but also a mentor/supporter to these students that cross my path. Thank you for your time. Anna Daily
      Bold Perseverance Scholarship
At age 12, I was diagnosed with diabetes. It was an extremely scary, difficult and sometimes painful time in my life. My mother is also a diabetic so I had seen how she had suffered yet persevered throughout the years and led a happy, healthy and positive life! When being diagnosed with a disease such as diabetes, there is a LOT of learning to do. For example, learning what foods to avoid and foods that were ok for my diet. Another example, is checking my blood sugar. These are just a few of the many things I had to learn and adjust to after my diagnosis. With that being said, I found the strength to persevere through this difficult situation with the love and support of my parents and family. I learned to adjust to my new lifestyle and I am proud to say I am living a happy, healthy life and plan to continue! Thank you for your time. Anna Daily
