Bio

Greetings! My name is Aniya Faith Williams and I'm a passionate and driven young scholar who desires to obtain a degree in the Medical Field. I want to give back to the community and be an asset to society for those who are less fortunate and experience disparity in healthcare services. My maternal grandmother passed away from a rare form of MS, but I remember her being so excited about her home care Physical Therapist as she kept the faith of being mobile and self-sufficient to get back to the things she loved such as; working with youth and serving as praise dance instructor through her non-profit, "Live by Faith". I've overcome a lot losing my father and grandmother at an early age, but I will not give up. I plan to pay it forward and assist others who may lose their mobility for various reasons to be able to improve their love and quality of life. Although, I've chosen a different medical path, I'm excited about becoming the first Doctor in my family in the world of dentistry as an Orthodontist. Yours Truly, Future Doctor Williams, DDS

Greetings, my name is Aniya Faith Williams, and my passion is to open my own dental practice with affordable and even complimentary services so that no one will go untreated because of their financial situation. I will start my collegiate career in Fall 2025 at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where I will major in Biology/Chemistry on a Pre-Dental track to set myself up to be competitive in the application for Dental School. I will attend Dental School for four years, and residency for three years thereafter. During my undergraduate schooling as well as when I get accepted into Dental School, I will continue to shadow and work close with my mentors to ensure I stay at the top of my craft and have a village to assist me via encouragements and their wisdom as I get to the finish line. I have had an interest in becoming an orthodontist since I was diagnosed with an underbite when in 4th grade. I selected this career path because I enjoy helping those inside and outside of my community by putting smiles on their faces, and what better way to do that than to give them a smile that makes them WANT to smile? Getting braces is no small financial obligation and I witnessed my single mom make the sacrifice so that I could feel confident about my smile and oral health. Many children as well as adults go through bullying for having gaps and crooked teeth, lowering their self-esteem and mental health, but how will they fix their issue if the resolution is unaffordable? My passion and my calling in life to provide accessibility and affordability for marginalized and underserved communities, and I will not fold until all people regardless of their circumstance have the dental care that they need and rightfully deserve. I also plan to start a foundation in the future that will provide tutoring programs and scholarships for youth to combat crime while exposing and encouraging them to pursue STEM majors. Upon completion of my program, I plan to provide scholarships for those who are raised in single family homes, such as myself to alleviate financial. Through such initiatives, this is how we pay it forward and combat generational disparities in underserved communities. If you select me to receive this prestigious scholarship, it will greatly help me achieve my goals by providing the financial support needed to pursue a higher education without the burden of excessive student loans as my mom alone does not have the funds to pay out of pocket. This scholarship will allow me to focus on my studies and extracurricular activities, enhancing my academic performance and personal development. Additionally, it will enable me to participate in community service and leadership opportunities and internships, aligning with my aspiration to become an Orthodontist. With the financial support of grants and scholarships, I will have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to reach my dreams and help others. I am very concerned about the disparities regarding access to dental care, and poor oral hygiene practices among certain demographics, with significant concerns regarding untreated cavities, especially among younger adults, and the increasing prevalence of gum disease in older populations. Thank you for this opportunity to turn my dreams into reality.

Greetings, my name is Aniya Faith Williams, and I should be selected for Bright Lights Scholarship Award as it will greatly help me achieve my goals by providing the financial support needed to pursue my higher education goals without the burden of excessive student loans. I'm being raised by my single mom, and she alone does not have the funds to pay out of pocket. My dad sadly passed away from liver cancer when I was just 9 years young. Through the ocean of tears filling up my heart and eyes in the backseat of my mother’s black Nissan Sentra when I learned of my father’s passing, I felt like my world was ending. Developing anxiety, attending my father’s funeral, and having to meet family members and friends on his side of the family that I never met during such a dark time was overwhelming. All I wanted to do was ball up in my bed, scream, and sleep the pain away. Although super young at the time of this tragic occasion, I was able to define what success and hard work meant to me and I defined it as pushing through with everything I had even when darkness tried to dim my light. This scholarship will allow me to focus on my studies and extracurricular activities, enhancing my academic performance and personal development. Additionally, it will enable me to continue to participate in community service and leadership opportunities and internships, aligning with my aspiration to become an Orthodontist. In the fall, I will attend Florida A&M University where I will study Biology to prepare to apply for Dental School after completion of my bachelor’s degree. My passion and my calling in life to provide accessibility and affordability for marginalized and underserved communities align directly with your mission. Upon completion of my program, I plan to provide scholarships for those who are raised in single family homes, such as myself, to alleviate financial strain as young adults pursue their professional and personal goals. I am very concerned about the disparities regarding access to dental care, and poor oral hygiene practices among certain demographics, with significant concerns regarding untreated cavities, especially among younger adults, and the increasing prevalence of gum disease in older populations. With financial support from the Bright Light Scholarship Award Scholarship Award, I will have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to reach my dreams and help others. Staying on my God designed path and working diligently has afforded me to earn a 4.3 weighted GPA, get accepted into 50 colleges/universities, cheer on Varsity at Buchholz, earn the roles of Vice President of National Honor Society, Class of 2025 Historian, President of the Pre-Collegiate Society, Treasurer of Black Student Union, Member of AMPLIFY Student Coalition for Alachua County Public Schools, and Member of Student Government; just to name a few of my leadership roles and academic accomplishments. Thank you for this opportunity to become a recipient of this prestigious scholarship and turn my dreams into reality.

Losing a parent or the ones that brought you true happiness feels like the greatest obstacle one must overcome. Although the grief feels suffocating in the beginning, what if I told you this obstacle can lead you to success by working hard and staying focused? 2016 started off as the best time of my life. There were no worries, no stress, I was just a 4th grade child, dancing with friends, having sleepovers, and traveling to fun places like Los Angeles with my mom. At the tender age of nine, I came home from a fun day at school and participated in the PTSA Reflections Competition to receive the news that my father had passed away from liver cancer at the young age of 34. At this point I know I had to lean on my faith and continue to work hard in school and life to leave a legacy that my dad would be proud of. Through the ocean of tears filling up my heart and eyes in the backseat of my mother’s black Nissan Sentra, I felt like my world was ending. Attending my father’s funeral was overwhelming and I began to experience spurts of anxiety. Even though super young at the time of this tragic occasion, I was able to define what success and hard work meant to me and I defined it as pushing through with everything I had even when darkness tried to dim my light. The meltdown that snuck up on me pushed me to get the help and therapy that I needed to unpack this unimaginable incident and the relief and realization that I felt following what tried to destroy me, changed my life for the better. This was a true example of taking a leap of faith and not only seeking but embracing the help I needed to continue to thrive in life. I am an overcomer and will accomplish everything that I set forth to do. I will always remember that setbacks are moments that are set up for a comeback and with that growth mindset, any and everything is possible. I will always lean on my faith and live by the mantra of “Faith over Fear”! Due to working diligently, I earned a 4.3 GPA, obtain acceptance into 50 colleges/universities, cheer on Varsity at Buchholz, earn the roles of VP of National Honor Society, Class of 2025 Historian, President of the Pre-Collegiate Society, Treasurer of Black Student Union, Member of Student Government; just to name a few of my leadership roles and academic accomplishments. I’m extremely thankful for my mom who raised me as a single parent from day one. Thank you for your consideration for this prestigious scholarship to help in funding my college endeavors and goal of becoming an Orthodontist and opening my own chain of practices. Becoming an Orthodontist will allow me to help others smile, by getting the smile that will boost their confidence and desire to smile. I can’t wait for the day that I can pay it forward to others in my community to obtain their goals just as your amazing organization will afford me to do.

I wish that I could tell the younger me that this pain would not last forever. I am surprisingly glad how I’ve been able to push forward and that I was chosen to go through this bump in the road. Although I would not suggest suppressing your pain like I did for so long, it did work out for me. Well, at least until I broke a glass shattering on the floor. The meltdown that snuck up on me pushed me to get the help I needed to unpack this unimaginable incident and the relief and realization that I felt following what tried to destroy me, changed my life for the better. As humans we tend to hold in our emotions, stay busy, and distract ourselves from the bad things going on in our lives. This may work for a few days, weeks, maybe even a few months, but there is a point where we can no longer hide our true emotions. At the end of this setback, I was able to step forward and understand that the best thing I could do during hard times is to acknowledge it, accept it, and work towards healing one day at a time. Instead of suppressing your emotions, it is vital to address them and seek resources or people that can help to unpack them. When hesitating to seek help, it can block us from growing and essentially learning how setbacks can help us move ahead in life. This was a true example of taking a leap of faith and not only seeking but embracing the help I needed to continue to thrive in life. When I’m confronted with the challenges of life, it is important to stay focused, acknowledge the grief or pain, get the necessary help, and stay on the path that God has set forth to reach your goals and find your purpose in life. I am an overcomer and will accomplish everything that I set forth to do. This is the epitome of why I am worth the dreams that I aspire to achieve. The most rewarding community service involvement to date was my time at the NW Boys and Girls Club. I enjoyed helping the young ladies and young fellows with their homework and social skills. I also had the opportunity to work on art projects with them, which is one of my passions. The smiles on their faces with the outcome of each project, gave me complete joy. It brings great joy to pay it forward in my community with our youth as they work hard to obtain their future goals and strive to be a positive asset to society. It is a positive and amazing experience participating in youth groups and projects that keep them off the streets getting into trouble. This type of work fuels a heightened love to help others and continue to pay it forward so that the youth can experience positive role models, learn how to make lifelong friendships, increase their knowledge, and overall feel great about doing positive and impactful things. As a result, youth in my community will earn higher grades and be inspired to become positive assets in any entity that they engage in which will open endless opportunities in their current and future endeavors. For our youth to thrive and combat crime in our communities; youth must feel empowered and be confident that they have a supportive village. Paying it forward via volunteering, mentorship, and tutoring are pivotal in developing youth to thrive as they become our future leaders. If we cease to uplift and train our youth in how to do things correctly and be ok with asking questions or for help when they're struggling, then we will continue to create revolving cycles of impoverished and non-driven communities. I plan to continue such endeavors while in college as well as create a nonprofit of my own that inspires youth to pursue STEM majors while providing access to food, tutoring, and other imperative resources that will help them, and their families thrive. Organizations like the Boys and Girls Club have created phenomenal and sustainable programs to help our youth and in addition to creating a similar program, I plan to collaborate efforts so that we can expand our bandwidth and help children and parents not only in our community, but around the world. The adage, "It takes a village", is not cliche; it is fact the foundation to building healthy and thriving youth and parents.

I would contribute my idea to implement a certified mentors and counselors to encourage students to have a desire to better their mental health and seek a higher education. This source would be brought to schools around the United States, confirming that all schools have access to the resource because it is common for less fortunate schools and districts to not have necessary needs. Something as important as the help to exceed in a better of mental health deserves to be experienced by all students, and staff. Making this implementation mandatory will ensure a successful outcome, confirming all offers are taken and requirements met. This will better our community and society as this resource will give young adults a will to do better because they will feel better mentally with the assistance of mentors/counselors.
    Team USA Fan Scholarship
My favorite athlete to cheer for on Team USA is Simone Biles. It is so exciting to see someone that never gives up; for example, two years ago she was diagnosed with a feeling known as "The Twisties"; something gymnasts feel as the aftermath of anxiety due to mental blocks of tumbling, dancing, and/or completing as a whole. As someone that, at times, feels overwhelmed, it is refreshing to see someone that is openly and publicly honest about the stress that is a part of their profession. It is easy to overthink, feeling jealous, or as if you may fail because others are more talented or "worthier" than you; Simone Biles has opened my eyes to the reality that we all go through touch trials in life, struggling with mental blocks, not solely in gymnastics, but in all aspects and careers. Simone Biles has also been open about the time that we must take off when we feel overwhelmed; as stated in the previous example, Simone Biles was once nervous to take time off after her diagnosis of "The Twisties", but after taking time to reflect, she noticed that she was deserving of the time off from pain, stress, and work, she even encouraged her fans to follow suit, as we all tend to over-work ourselves. Aside from her openness, culturally, it is inspiring to see such a talented star on the big screen that looks just like me! At times it is hard to believe in the success you want to fulfill in your life when you don't see other "you's", those that look or act like you. It is very nice to see someone as classy, talented, and beautiful being successful in life, that gives me motivation to keep pressing forward, believing in myself, and never giving up!
    LeBron James Fan Scholarship
The debate about who is the greatest player of all time has been a hot topic for a while! LeBron James has definitely made an impact on the game of basketball whether people like him or not, and although there have been plenty of other great basketball players before and after LeBron James's time, he has definitely showed out in his own ways. LeBron James has made a name for himself, he is one of THE American "household names", being in the spotlight of the basketball realm for the last decade or so. LeBron James showcases qualities inside and outside of the court, benefiting his team in twenty (plus) points each game, and even when he is hurt, he is still on the sideline, encouraging his teammates, elevating the team's morale and even coaching them to victory. Time and time again LeBron has shown his talent and dependability in tough games on each of the teams that he has been on over the years. Not only has LeBron brought great values and qualities on the court, but off of the court he has given back to, not only his family, but has also given back to his community. LeBron's thanks, love, and charity to his community also reminds and inspires me to give back to my community when I gain wealth in the future! LeBron James is definitely one of the greatest basketball players on and off of the court and that is why I have been, and still am a fan of his!

Since a young age, I have always had a passion to help others, and as I have grown older, there are more and more ways that I have found to help me help others. Before we talk to people and give advice, we must first welcome them to build trust and respect. My kind, and often called bubbly, personality causes others to gravitate toward my kind spirit. Sometimes all someone needs is for someone to brighten up their day, a way that I tend to brighten the days of those around is to give them a compliment on their outfit or hair, although that is a simple gesture, people are usually very appreciative of them. At times we need compliments to help us put a smile on our face, but sometimes we may need good advice. Another way that I help support others in my everyday life is by giving good advice. When I give advice to others, I make sure to not only tell them to do what “sounds good”, but instead logically think about the right option to choose or path to follow. When we are in distress, we tend to not think about what we are saying or the outcomes of our actions, because of that reason I make sure to further help others by leading them to their best option. As I grow older, I would like to continue to help others in my career. As I go to college, I plan to major in the career path of dentistry, specifically becoming an orthodontist. As a dentist and orthodontist, I can help others orally, putting a beautiful smile on many more faces!

A quote that I would agree describes me is a quote said by Dolly Parton, “If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain”. This is a quote that describes my mindset. There are so many goals I want to reach and things that I want to accomplish, but before I reach them there are plenty of no’s and speed bumps in the road that I will encounter before I reach them. Although times are bound to be stressful and we may feel like we should give up, I believe that we should never give up! I believe that through the rough and stressful times, we will learn so much more than if we had not worked hard to do what we want to. Personally, I have a passion to work within the field of Health Sciences. Since a child, I have always loved to help others, and I’ve always looked up to those that do. My desire to work in this field stems from a combination of personal experiences, a passion for science, and a commitment to helping others. Currently, I am choosing between being a Physical Therapist or working within Sports Medicine. These two job choices stood with me when my late grandmother, who had a rare form of the disease known as “MS”, caused her to have limited movement. Throughout her time with the disease, there were many physical therapists that successfully helped her find easier ways to move around throughout her day-to-day activities. The smile that was brought to her face after she received improvement with her movement also brought a smile to my face, and essentially made me want to become a physical therapist so that I too can help others and put a smile on their face! A couple years ago I took an Anatomy class, ever since, I was fascinated by the human body and how it functions. This curiosity further led me to pursue the idea of going into the study of health science. The more I learned, the more I realized that I can work in health sciences to help improve the outcomes for others in need of internal healing, and enhance their quality of life. Personal experiences, such as witnessing family members battle chronic illnesses and seeing the difference that healthcare professionals made in their lives instilled in me a deep respect for the field and a desire to contribute to it. The diversity within this field is one of the aspects that attracts me most to it. Working in Health Sciences offers numerous pathways to make a difference, whether it is through direct patient care, developing new treatments, or implementing health policies that benefit populations of many. The ability to alleviate suffering and stress, promote wellness, and save lives fulfills the goals I have of helping those in need. The challenges and hard work to work in this field are significant, but so are the rewards. Knowing that my work could potentially improve someone's health and save lives are my main motivators. In addition to the personal satisfaction that comes from helping others, the field of health sciences is constantly evolving. Being a part of advances in technology, medical research, and healthcare delivery systems, transforming the way we understand and treat diseases, would be exciting and is inspiring. It offers me a chance to be at the forefront of a scientific discovery and contribute to events that could change the future of our healthcare and its system.
