Bio

I want to be the first one in my family to transfer to a UC. I am currently majoring in music but I would like to have a minor in child development. I want to be able to take care of children while adding music to the mix.

I plan to make a positive impact on the world through music by joining an all women mariachi. I have one year experience in being in a mariachi and I loved it. I have also seen an all women mariachi once and they were absolutely beautiful and amazing. They are not much all women mariachi as much as all men/mixed marichis, which is why I would like to either join or create one. Ever since the mariachi came to my school and performed, I knew what I wanted to do. I would like to show everyone how strong latina women can be and how strong they can project their voice. I want to show the world how amazing the experience of listening to listening/watching an all women mariachi. I would also eventually like to teach children and have them play mariachi for the community. My goal is to make mariachi stronger and play more for my community.

College means everything to me. I am the second person in my family to go to community college but I would like to go further and beyond and transfer to a UC. My parents never had a good education. My big brother finished community college now but could not go any further due having to work. My parents do not earn a lot of money which is the reason why I am starting-off in community college. Especially because my parents recently got divorced and since I stay with one parent, it is harder. While my mother is not going to retire soon, my father will. I would like to pursue music and child development. I enjoy music and it has always been my mothers dream to become a singer as well, so I would like to make her proud in that sense. I have had plenty of younger cousins and I have two younger siblings and I love them all. I would like to focus on child development due to the love for children. I have done plenty of research and these two would be good things to work in. I would like to make my parents proud and be the first one to go to a UC. I would also like to eventually buy a house for each of my parents one day, even if that seems impossible now. They always wanted a house but we never had a chance to get one. My father is slowly becoming unable to work, so I would like to finish college as soon as possible instead of taking gap years in order to help my father. My parents really want me to go above and beyond as well which is why I would like to try to do this for them as well. We never had much money so it has been hard. Due to this they will not be able to help me much when it comes to paying for tuition when I go to a UC. I would like to go into mariachi as well. Once I peruse music I would like to be in an all woman mariachi. Since hispanic/latina and women are a minority, this would show plenty of people how strong we can be. The first timeI experienced watching an all woman mariachi was in middle school. Ever since that day I have been looking up to them.

I have been interested in music all my life. My dad brought different kinds of music when I was young and due to that, I have came to love every kind of music genre. I have been playing instruments ever since elementary school. I started off playing the recorder, then the flute and piano in middle school. Lastly I picked up singing, guitar (both electric and acoustic), bass, and ukulele. I would like continue to learn about music because it has had a huge impact on my life. I love learning about all kinds of instruments, I especially love perfecting these instruments. I am currently a bit unsure what I would like to do in the future, but I would be definitely looking into something with music. If I master various instruments perfectly I would like to perform and be in multiple groups. I played in a mariachi my senior year of high school and I really enjoyed it. Before joining mariachi, I was too shy to sing out loud, my friends would always tell me I have a good voice but I was always scared. Being the mariachi’s lead singer gave me the confidence I needed. I have also been really into jazz music for the longest time. I tend to listen and sing to jazz. What currently interests me right now is getting into a mariachi and jazz band. I would have a better chance to get into a mariachi band due to my previous experience. When it comes to jazz, the only thing I am familiar when it comes to instrument playing is my voice. I can confidently say that I am good at singing at jazz but there are things I can work on. Which is why I am going to apply to the music program at my college. Once I finish my general requirements and my classes for my major in music, I would like to transfer out. I have been thinking about transferring to either; UC David, UC Berkley, or UCLA. I have done plenty of research and I have seen that these schools are perfect for both the genres jazz and mariachi. When it comes to teaching, I do want to have a minor in child development. If performing does not work out for me, then I would like to help children start playing instruments. I love taking care of children and I also love playing/mastering instruments, so teaching would be a good job for me as well. When it comes to teaching, the only thing that I am unsure about is what schools and grades I would be teaching music to.
