Growing up as the child of a single mother has shaped my understanding of strength, sacrifice, and resilience in ways I am only beginning to fully understand. My story is not defined by ease or comfort, but by perseverance and growth. One of the earliest experiences that shaped me was living in a shelter at a young age , a time in my life that, while difficult, taught me lessons I carry with me every day. I was young when my mother and I stayed in a shelter. At that age, I did not fully understand our situation, but I could feel the uncertainty around me. The space was temporary, shared, and unfamiliar, and yet my mother worked hard to make it feel like home. She turned small moments into something meaningful, whether it was comforting me when I was scared or finding ways to keep a sense of normalcy in a place that felt anything but normal. Looking back, I realize that even when she had so little, she gave me everything she could, stability, love, and reassurance. My mother has always been the foundation of my life. As a single parent, she carried the full weight of responsibility, balancing work, financial stress, and raising me on her own. There were times when I noticed how tired she was, but she never let her struggles take away from the care she gave me. She remained determined to create a better life for us, even when the path forward was uncertain. From her, I learned that resilience is not about avoiding hardship, but about continuing despite it. Experiencing instability at a young age also shaped my sense of independence. I grew up understanding that life does not always follow a predictable path, and that sometimes you have to adapt quickly. As I got older, I took on more responsibilities and learned to rely on myself in many ways. These experiences pushed me to become more mature, more aware, and more focused on building a stable future. At the same time, living through those challenges deepened my empathy for others. I know what it feels like to face uncertainty and to rely on strength during difficult times. Because of this, I am more understanding of people who may be struggling in ways that are not always visible. I have learned to value compassion, patience, and support, recognizing that everyone carries their own story. Although there were moments when I felt the absence of stability or wished for an easier path, those experiences also showed me the depth of my mother’s love and determination. She never gave up. Instead of letting our situation define us negatively, she used it as motivation to push forward ,and that mindset has become a part of who I am. As I prepare for college, I carry these experiences with me as a source of strength. I understand the value of hard work and the importance of perseverance, not just for my own success, but as a way to honor everything my mother has done for me. The challenges we faced, including our time in a shelter, did not hold me back , they built the foundation for who I am today. Being the child of a single mother, and having experienced hardship early in life, has taught me resilience, independence, and gratitude. It has shown me that even in the most uncertain moments, strength can be found. These lessons will continue to guide me as I move forward, determined to create a future that reflects both my own efforts and the sacrifices that made it possible.

Becoming a veterinarian is not just a career choice for me , it is a promise shaped by loss, resilience, and a deep sense of purpose. I have had more pets pass away than I can count, and while each loss was painful, every single one strengthened my determination. Instead of discouraging me, those experiences pushed me forward. I realized that my purpose is to help those without a voice , the animals who cannot tell us when they are hurt or in pain , and to be the person who can save them. This realization became even clearer during my junior year of high school when I took an anatomy class. As I learned the ins and outs of the animal body, it began to feel like a second language to me. What once seemed complex quickly became fascinating and meaningful. That was the moment I truly understood my calling. As I continued studying biology and explored the science behind animal health, I became fully certain that becoming a veterinarian was the path I wanted to follow. Animals are the backbone of our world. They help maintain ecosystems and bring comfort and joy into people’s everyday lives. My personal experiences with animals have shown me just how powerful that connection can be. My first dog, Lahya, a pit bull mix, was more than just a pet , she was a source of strength during some of the hardest times in my life, including living through domestic violence and homelessness. She stayed by my side through it all, and when she developed cancer, I stayed by hers until the very end. That experience taught me loyalty, compassion, and the importance of being there for those who depend on you. I have also cared for many other animals, each of which has shaped me in different ways. My pet gerbils, who lived long lives, helped me grow and find myself from elementary through middle school. The geese my aunt gifted me showed me the beauty in what others might consider unusual, and raising them taught me responsibility and appreciation for all forms of life. My bearded dragons gave me the incredible experience of helping bring new life into the world, as I cared for their babies. Even the snakes I housed taught me that every creature, no matter how misunderstood, has a unique life and purpose. Through all of these experiences, I have learned what it truly means to care for others , especially those who cannot care for themselves. Every animal I have loved and lost has contributed to the person I am today and has guided me toward my future. Because of them, I am determined to push forward, overcome challenges, and dedicate my life to becoming a veterinarian.
