Hello my name is Angelica Sanchez and I am a 21 year old nursing student who lives in a day-to-day life through Jesus. Growing up every Sunday me and my parents go to our community church and prayed to god for blessing us and taking care of us as best he could. I am blessed to have such wonderful parents that support me every way to accomplish my dreams. Waking up every morning is a blessing and I thank god for giving me another day to see all things through him and speaking his words to others. I am neutral about pro-life just because there is many reasons and different opinions others might have about it. Having a baby is a blessing from above but in certain situations I can understand why one wants to do it. My faith has impacted me for my future goals because I can see why god put me through the career path I choose. Nursing was not my career I would tell people I wanted to be when I grew up, but my grandpa one day inspired me through my dream. In 2016 my grandfather passed away and later that week he came to me with god in a dream explaining that I was destined to help others and help them heel. After volunteering in hospitals and being more hand on in the medical field I became inspired by the nurses. I knew it was my calling to become a nurse and help those in need. Currently I am an OB tech helping the nurses help moms bring their blessings into this world. I love my job and I wouldn't change it for the world. This fall I will be attending my first year as a nursing student at Walla Walla Community College and I am so thrilled. I plan to use my education to help those moms who are going through a rough time and help them find god in this beautiful journey of them. Working in the birth center these past years has taught me a lot and I have helped steer people towards god. I have helped a withdrawing mother get the help she needs to get sober and find faith in god to help bring a healthy baby into this world and fight hard to get custody for her baby. Not only did I help her get better but I also interact with a lot of moms who are admitted into the hospital early because of pre-term labor. For those mothers I always tell them to pray to god to protect them and their babies. I tell them that having faith is what will help them get through this and it also makes them feel stronger. Sometimes it's not always a happy ending and for those moms who have lost a baby are the moms whos faith grows stronger and changes their life completely. I once had to comfort a mom after losing their little one due to a miscarriage and had no support. I told her that she is not alone and that she does have people that care for her. I prayed with her that day and got her a priest to come pray with us and for the beautiful baby she had that day. After the three of us talked about god and told her that she is not alone that god is always with her she felt more relied and had piece in her mind.

My name is Angelica Sanchez and I was born and raised here in the Tri-Cities my whole life. Both my parents were born in México and immigrated to the United States in 1989. I am a first generation Mexican American and the first in my family to pursue an education in healthcare. This is very exiting to me because I have so many goals I want to accomplish in the next five years and prove to myself that anything is possible. I plan to make a difference through my nursing career by supporting all patients that are in their most vulnerable state, especially the Hispanic community. Being bilingual is a huge advantage for me and the healthcare system because I can communicate better with my patients. Where I live in Pasco most of the community is Latin or Hispanic origin and most of them English is not their first language. Having someone like me talk to them in Spanish makes them feel more comfortable to express their feelings and concerns. Since I started working in the hospital back in 2022 I have witnessed a lot of patient negligence because of the language barrier. This is super disappointing and frustrating at the same time because those patients deserve the same care as those who do speak English. I try my best when I work to advocate for my patients and make them feel welcomed. I do not have favorite patients, but when I do get a Spanish speaking patient I tend to check on them more often to make sure they are okay and have everything they need to feel at home. Another difference I would like to do when I become a nurse is to advocate for my patients who cannot advocate for themselves. Knowing your patients and knowing what is best for them will always be a top priority to me. Making sure they are safe is the best thing one can do for them. If I notice the care of plan that me and the provider put together is not working I will advocate that something must be changed in order to help the patient get better. If I see that doctor is prescribing something that will hurt the patient I will be their voice. Patient safety is always important especially if the patient doesn’t understand what is happening. For example, if they have dementia or some other condition that affects their cognitive thinking I will 100% be their advocate. Patient safety and communication are big priorities to me when I become a nurse to keep them safe and comfortable.
