Goobie-Ramlal Education Scholarship
Growing up as the daughter of a single mother, my journey to becoming a college-bound student has been defined by resilience, responsibility, and sacrifice. My mom has always worked tirelessly, often around the clock, to support me and provide for our family. As a result, I’ve had to step up in many ways, taking on responsibilities that are far beyond my years. In doing so, I’ve learned not only how to take care of myself and my family but also how to navigate the complexities of life with grace and determination.
Being the “mother” in my family while my mom was working so hard has shaped me in ways I never imagined. I’ve had to step in and take charge of household duties, care for younger siblings, and make decisions that would affect our well-being. This experience has given me a profound understanding of what it means to be responsible, dependable, and self-sufficient. It hasn’t always been easy, and at times, it felt like I was growing up too quickly. But in taking on these roles, I’ve also gained valuable life lessons. I’ve learned how to manage my time effectively, how to juggle multiple responsibilities, and how to put others’ needs before my own, all while maintaining focus on my education and future.
As a first-generation college student, I’m incredibly motivated by the sacrifices my mother has made for me. Watching her work 24/7 with limited rest has instilled in me a sense of duty to make the most of the opportunities she’s given me. She didn’t have the chance to pursue higher education, but she always encouraged me to value education above all else. Through her example, I learned that success doesn’t come without hard work, and that every challenge presents an opportunity to grow.
Having to balance school, responsibilities at home, and a desire to pursue my dreams has only fueled my determination to succeed. I know that the path ahead won’t always be easy, but I’m prepared to face whatever comes my way. My experience as a caretaker has given me a strong sense of empathy, which I plan to use to make a positive impact in the world. I will pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Criminology and Pre-Law, and I believe these fields will provide me with the knowledge and tools to advocate for those who, like me, have had to face life’s difficulties head-on.
The lessons I’ve learned from my mom and my own experiences have led me to aspire to a career in law. I will to use my education to help people who don’t have a voice, particularly those in underserved communities. I’ve seen how hard it can be for individuals from low-income backgrounds, especially immigrants, to navigate systems that weren’t designed with them in mind. My ultimate goal is to become an attorney who advocates for justice and equality, particularly for people who face systemic barriers due to their circumstances.
As a future attorney, I will use my experiences to advocate for individuals who face challenges similar to mine. My experience of stepping up as the “mother” figure in my family has given me a deep understanding of the importance of community and support. I’ve learned that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a difference in someone’s life. I will be the attorney who not only fights for legal rights but also understands the emotional and personal struggles that clients has faced. Whether it’s helping an immigrant navigate the legal system or advocating for changes in the law to better serve marginalized communities.
Aserina Hill Memorial Scholarship
I’m currently a high school senior with plans to attend the University of Texas to pursue a degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminology/Pre-Law. I have always been passionate about education and its ability to create positive change, both for individuals and for communities. Throughout high school, I have been involved in various extracurricular activities that have shaped my perspective on service, justice, and helping others. I’ve volunteered at local shelters, participated in community cleanups, and served as a mentor for younger students, all of which have strengthened my belief in the importance of giving back.
One of the most personal causes I am passionate about is dementia care. My grandmother has been living with dementia for several years, and witnessing the toll it has taken on her and our family has motivated me to become more involved in raising awareness and providing support for others affected by this disease. Dementia is often misunderstood and under-addressed, both in terms of care and public awareness. This has inspired me to pursue a future where I can make a difference for those affected by dementia and their families.
If I could start my own charity, its mission would be to support individuals living with dementia and provide resources for their families. The goal would be to raise awareness about dementia, educate communities on how to better care for loved ones with the disease, and advocate for policy changes that would improve dementia care on a broader scale. The charity would focus on providing practical services, such as respite care for families, educational workshops, and counseling for both patients and caregivers.
Volunteers will play a crucial role in the charity’s work. They would assist in organizing fundraising events, providing companionship to individuals with dementia, and offering emotional support to families navigating the challenges of caring for a loved one with the disease. Volunteers could also help with organizing workshops to educate the community about dementia, its effects, and the ways people can offer support to those struggling with it. By empowering volunteers with the knowledge and resources they need, I would create a network of people who are actively working to improve the lives of those affected by dementia.
The lack of awareness surrounding dementia is a major issue that needs to be addressed. Many people are unaware of the signs of dementia, or they may not know how to help those affected. It is crucial to provide information that helps people understand the disease and how to be supportive, both emotionally and physically. With the right care, individuals with dementia can still live fulfilling lives, and their families can find peace knowing they will receive the support they need.
Through my future career, I plan to use my education in psychology and law to advocate for those who need it most. My degree in psychology will help me better understand the mental and emotional challenges that come with diseases like dementia, while my law education will equip me with the tools to fight for policy changes that improve care and resources for people with dementia. As an attorney, I will be an advocate for vulnerable populations, including those affected by dementia, and to push for changes in the system that will provide better care and support for those in need.
Gomez Family Legacy Scholarship
As a first-generation college student and a young Hispanic female, my journey toward success has been shaped by a desire to prove that I am capable of achieving my dreams, despite the challenges I face. My motivation comes from my deep belief in the transformative power of education, not only for me but for the generations that follow. Pursuing an education is not just about personal achievement—it's about breaking barriers and creating opportunities where there were none before.
I understand that without scholarships and financial support, I might be trapped in a cycle of debt that would only add to the financial strain my family faces. That’s why securing an education is so important to me—it will not only change my life but will also open doors for my family and those who come after me.
Being a woman in a male-dominated world adds another layer of difficulty to this journey. I often feel like I’m viewed as a joke, or that my dreams and ambitions are dismissed simply because of my gender. This is something I face on a daily basis, but it’s also what fuels my drive to succeed. I refuse to be silenced or underestimated. My goal is to become an attorney, not just to fight for justice but to show others—especially women and girls in my community—that they can achieve anything they set their minds to, regardless of the obstacles in their way.
The lack of representation of women, particularly Hispanic women, in positions of power and influence is something I want to change. As a future attorney, I plan to use my voice to advocate for others who feel voiceless, especially those from underrepresented communities like my own. I want to fight for fairness in the legal system, to ensure that the laws serve everyone, not just the privileged few. Pursuing a career in law will allow me to make a difference in people’s lives, and it will give me the platform I need to challenge the societal norms that hold people back—especially women and minorities.
Education is the key to all of this. It’s not just about acquiring knowledge; it’s about empowerment. By becoming the first in my family to attend college, I hope to inspire others to follow in my footsteps. I want to show them that no matter how difficult the road may seem, success is possible if you are willing to fight for it.
I know that I will face many challenges along the way—financial struggles, societal expectations, and the doubt of others—but I also know that with hard work and determination, I can overcome these obstacles. Every step I take toward my education is a step toward creating a better future not only for me but for my family and community. By pursuing a higher education, I am not just investing in my future; I am investing in the future of those who come after me, proving that success is not determined by where I come from, but where I’m willing to go.
My education is not just for me; it’s for every young girl who has ever been told that her dreams are too big. It’s for every underrepresented person who feels invisible or ignored. And it’s for every Hispanic family who believes that education is the key to a better future. I will not let the challenges I face define me—instead, I will use them as fuel to achieve my dreams and make a lasting impact on the world.
Ward Green Scholarship for the Arts & Sciences
As a future student at the University of Texas, I am excited to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Criminology and Pre-Law. This interdisciplinary path aligns with my passion for understanding human behavior and the intricacies of the criminal justice system, while also preparing me for a career in law. I believe that by combining these fields, I will be equipped to make a meaningful impact on both individual lives and society as a whole.
Psychology and criminology are fields that naturally complement one another. Psychology provides the foundation for understanding the mental and emotional processes that drive human behavior, while criminology focuses on the societal factors that influence criminal actions. By studying psychology, I aim to better understand the motivations and experiences of my future clients, whether they are victims, defendants, or witnesses. This knowledge will allow me to approach each case with empathy and insight, ensuring that I can provide the most effective legal representation possible.
The intersection of psychology, criminology, and law will also help me navigate the complexities of the criminal justice system. For example, understanding how mental health issues can impact criminal behavior and legal proceedings will be crucial in advocating for more equitable and compassionate solutions for those in the system. I am particularly interested in how mental health, substance abuse, and trauma play a role in criminal behavior, and how the legal system can address these factors in a more restorative manner. My studies in criminology will allow me to explore the structure and functioning of criminal law, and better understand how laws and policies affect marginalized communities.
Through this educational path, I aspire to become an attorney who advocates for justice and fairness, particularly for individuals who are often overlooked or misunderstood by society. I am committed to using my knowledge of psychology and criminology to serve underrepresented communities, especially those who face systemic barriers to justice. Whether working with individuals in the criminal justice system or advocating for policies that address the root causes of crime, I hope to create positive change that extends beyond individual cases.
I am passionate about using my education to address social justice issues and promote fairness for all people, regardless of their background or circumstances. Volunteering has always been a key part of my life, and it has reinforced my belief in the power of community service. I have worked with at-risk youth, volunteered at local shelters, and participated in community outreach programs that focus on providing support to individuals who have been impacted by crime. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the challenges many people face and strengthened my commitment to serving those who are most vulnerable.
As a future attorney, I will be able to use my knowledge of psychology and criminology to approach legal cases with a more holistic perspective, considering not only the legal aspects but also the human factors that contribute to each situation. This will enable me to advocate for fairer treatment and more effective solutions for individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
Ultimately, my goal is to use my education and career to make a lasting impact on my community. By combining the arts and sciences—specifically psychology, criminology, and law I will be able to bridge the gap between understanding human behavior and advocating for justice. I know that fostering this interdisciplinary approach is a more compassionate, informed, and effective advocate for change, and will allow me to contribute meaningfully to the well-being of my community and society as a whole.
Crawley Kids Scholarship
Throughout my life, I have always been passionate about giving back to my community. As a high school senior with a strong commitment to service, I’ve volunteered at local food banks, organized charity events, and participated in initiatives supporting underrepresented groups. This involvement has deeply shaped my perspective and strengthened my desire to pursue a career in law. I believe that every person deserves to be heard and treated fairly, and I am driven to advocate for those who often lack a voice.
Through my community service, I have learned the importance of empathy, understanding, and leadership. It has shown me how small actions can make a significant difference in someone's life and how community-driven efforts can create lasting positive change. Volunteering has also reinforced my commitment to social justice, a value that I aim to carry with me as I pursue my studies and career.
As I attend college at the University of Texas, I aspire to attend law school and become an attorney who fights for fairness and justice, particularly for those in marginalized communities. My goal is to use my legal career to serve others and make a meaningful impact in the world.

Understanding the Underlying Meaning of Exodus 15:2
Exodus 15:2 reads: "The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him." (NIV). This passage is part of the Song of Moses, sung by the Israelites after they were delivered from the Egyptians, having crossed the Red Sea. In this single verse, we find layers of theological and existential meaning, which resonate through the centuries as a testament to faith, deliverance, and praise. Through a close reading of Exodus 15:2, we can explore not only the historical significance of the passage but also the deeper spiritual truths it conveys.
The Nature of God's Strength
In the opening words of the verse, "The Lord is my strength," the speaker immediately identifies God as the source of their power and endurance. This strength is not merely physical, though it includes God’s protection during the dramatic escape from Egypt. Rather, this strength encompasses a more profound resilience—a divine fortitude that sustains the believer in moments of trial, both physically and emotionally. The Israelites, having just witnessed the miraculous parting of the Red Sea, were aware of God’s power in a tangible way. Yet, in the context of their long journey through the wilderness, this strength transcended the immediate moment of deliverance.
In a broader theological sense, God's strength is not only a power that manifests in grandiose moments of salvation but is also an enduring presence that empowers believers throughout life’s struggles. The acknowledgment of God as strength suggests a deeply intimate and personal reliance on Him, where He is understood as the source of all vitality, endurance, and courage. This recognition of God’s strength underlines a key aspect of faith: that God is a constant, unwavering support in the believer’s life.
Salvation as Transformation
The second part of the verse declares, "He has become my salvation." This phrase captures the essence of God's role in the lives of His people—not only as a deliverer in times of distress but as a transformative force that reshapes the believer’s identity. The Israelites, freed from the grip of Pharaoh’s army, were not merely physically saved from a deadly threat. Their salvation represented a spiritual and communal rebirth, one that would define their covenant with God for generations to come.
In the context of the Exodus story, salvation is inextricably linked with God's acts of deliverance. However, the passage suggests that salvation is not a one-time event but an ongoing process of transformation. The phrase "He has become my salvation" implies a journey—one where the believer’s identity is shaped by the power of God’s intervention. Just as the Israelites’ experience of being freed from slavery is integral to their identity as God’s people, so too does the individual believer’s encounter with God's salvation reorient their worldview and purpose in life.
Salvation, as conveyed through this verse, signifies a holistic deliverance: from the physical threats of the world, from spiritual darkness, and from the internal struggles of sin and despair. It underscores the idea that salvation is not limited to an external act of rescue but involves a profound change within the heart and soul of the believer.
Personal and Ancestral Connection
The declaration "This is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God" draws attention to the dual nature of faith. On one hand, the individual makes a personal claim to God: "This is my God." The speaker is not simply affirming a general belief in God, but rather expressing a personal and intimate relationship. This speaks to the individuality of faith and the personal responsibility each believer has in connecting with the Divine. The use of "my" emphasizes a profound bond between the believer and God, one that is unique and personal, shaped by the believer’s experiences, struggles, and triumphs.
On the other hand, the speaker also connects with a broader historical and communal faith: "my father’s God." This reference to the ancestral faith of the fathers—likely referring to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—illustrates that faith is not solely an individual experience but is deeply rooted in a shared tradition. The phrase conveys that the speaker’s faith is not separate from the faith of the people who came before them, suggesting continuity in the story of God’s people. It is as if the speaker is claiming God as not only their personal savior but also as the God who has always been there for the generations of their ancestors.
This dual perspective—personal and ancestral—reinforces the idea that faith is both an individual journey and a communal one. It is shaped by the legacies of those who came before, yet it also demands personal commitment and relationship with God. The passage invites believers to reflect on both the continuity of faith through generations and the necessity of a personal, lived relationship with God.
Exaltation and Praise
Finally, the verse concludes with an act of worship: "I will exalt him." This response to God's deliverance is one of praise and adoration. The act of exalting God is a declaration of His greatness and a recognition of His worthiness of all honor and reverence. The choice of the word "exalt" emphasizes the elevation of God above all things—above human power, above earthly concerns, and above all other sources of strength. It speaks to the utter supremacy of God in the life of the believer.
In many ways, the act of exalting God in this passage encapsulates the proper response to experiencing His salvation. Praise is not a mere emotional reaction but is also an intentional, deliberate acknowledgment of God’s greatness. It is the natural outflow of recognizing His acts of power and love. In a world where personal achievements are often exalted, this verse calls believers to redirect their praise toward God, to acknowledge His supremacy, and to offer their lives in service and worship to Him.
The Significance of Exodus 15:2 in the Context of Faith
Exodus 15:2 provides a profound example of how believers respond to God's actions in their lives. The verse speaks not only to the Israelites’ gratitude for physical deliverance but also to the broader theological truths about the nature of salvation, God’s strength, and the importance of personal and communal faith. It is a testimony to the transformative power of God, the intimacy of a personal relationship with Him, and the proper response of praise and exaltation.
For modern readers, the verse serves as a reminder that faith is not a passive state but an active engagement with God. The individual is called not only to acknowledge God as the source of strength and salvation but also to respond with a life of worship. In doing so, the believer enters into the rich tradition of faith that spans across generations, connecting personal experience with the legacy of God's people.
This passage also challenges contemporary believers to look beyond immediate circumstances and to view God’s deliverance through a broader, more profound lens. The physical act of salvation—the parting of the Red Sea—is a powerful event, but it points to a deeper, spiritual truth: that salvation is a continual process of transformation, one that reorients the heart and soul toward God.
Conclusion
Exodus 15:2 is a deeply rich and layered verse that calls for close reading and reflection. By examining its themes of strength, salvation, personal and ancestral connection, and praise, we gain insight not only into the historical context of the Israelites’ deliverance but also into the broader spiritual truths that resonate throughout scripture. This passage offers timeless lessons on the nature of God’s power, the importance of personal faith, and the proper response to His greatness. In a world that often looks for strength in human achievement or material success, Exodus 15:2 reminds believers that true strength and salvation are found in God alone.
LGBTQ+ Wellness in Action Scholarship
As I sit here, reflecting on my journey as a lesbian student, I am met with a mix of emotions - sadness, anger, but also hope and resilience. Growing up in a strict Christian household, I was taught that being gay was a sin, and that I needed to "pray the gay away." The internalized shame and self-loathing that resulted from this toxic environment took a significant toll on my mental health.
I remember the countless nights I spent crying myself to sleep, feeling like I was broken and unworthy of love. I remember the anxiety that gripped my heart every time I heard a homophobic slur or saw a derogatory post on social media. I felt like I was living in a constant state of fear, never knowing when someone would discover my secret and reject me.
But despite the pain and the struggle, I found a way to survive. I found solace in the words of LGBTQ+ authors and activists, who reminded me that I was not alone, that I was worthy of love and acceptance. I found comfort in the arms of friends who accepted me for who I was, without condition or judgment.
As I navigated the challenges of college, I began to find my voice. I started attending LGBTQ+ events and joining advocacy groups, where I met others who shared my story. I began to see that I was not alone, that there were others out there who understood my struggle.
But even as I found community and support, I couldn't shake the feeling of sadness that lingered inside me. I thought about all the years I had wasted, hiding in the shadows, afraid to be myself. I thought about all the pain I had endured, the sleepless nights and the anxious days.
And yet, even in the midst of that sadness, I found a spark of hope. I realized that my story was not unique, that there were countless others out there who were struggling to find their place in the world. I realized that I had a responsibility to use my voice, to share my story, and to help create a world that was more just and more loving.
As I look to the future, I am filled with a sense of purpose and determination. I know that there will be challenges ahead, that there will be times when I feel like giving up. But I also know that I am not alone, that there are others out there who are fighting for the same thing - a world that is more just, more loving, and more accepting.
In the end, it is not the pain or the struggle that defines me, but the resilience and the hope that I have found. It is the knowledge that I am not alone, that there are others out there who understand my story and who are fighting for the same thing. And it is the determination to use my voice, to share my story, and to help create a world that is more just and more loving for all.
Hampton Roads Unity "Be a Pillar" Scholarship
As I reflect on my journey, I am reminded of a pivotal moment that changed my life forever. It was a conversation with a remarkable individual, Sarah, a trans woman who shared her story with me during a campus pride event. Her courage, resilience, and authenticity had a profound impact on me, and I am forever grateful.
Sarah's testimony was a turning point for me. Her words resonated deeply, and I found myself reflecting on my own identity and sense of self. For years, I had struggled with my own sexuality, feeling like I didn't quite fit into the heteronormative mold that society had expected of me. But hearing Sarah's story, seeing her confidence and self-assurance, gave me the courage to confront my own truth.
Because of Sarah, I found the strength to come out as a lesbian. Her story showed me that I didn't have to hide, that I could be proud of who I am, and that I deserved to live a life that was authentic and true to myself. Coming out was not easy, but knowing that I had a community that accepted and supported me made all the difference.
As I navigated the complexities of coming out, I realized that I was not alone. There were countless others who had walked this path before me, and who continued to face challenges and obstacles along the way. I began to educate myself on the issues affecting LGBTQIA+ individuals, learning about the systemic barriers and biases that perpetuated inequality and injustice.
Sarah's impact on my life extends far beyond my own coming-out journey. She inspired me to become a stronger ally and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community. I began to volunteer with local organizations, using my privilege and platform to amplify the voices and stories of LGBTQIA+ individuals. I also started to speak out against injustice and inequality, using my voice to challenge systemic barriers and biases.
As I look back on my journey, I am reminded of the power of storytelling and the importance of community. Sarah's story changed my life, giving me the courage to be myself and to live a life that is authentic and true. Her legacy continues to inspire me, motivating me to be a stronger ally and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community.
In the years since, I have continued to grow and learn, but I will never forget the debt of gratitude I owe to Sarah. Her bravery and vulnerability gave me the gift of self-acceptance, and for that, I am eternally grateful. As I move forward in my journey, I will continue to honor Sarah's legacy, using my voice and my actions to create a world that is more just, equitable, and loving for all.

I believe in the power of education and equal opportunity for everyone, regardless of their race or background. As a Hispanic student, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges that students from minority groups often face. From a lack of representation in curriculum to unequal access to resources and opportunities, these disparities can create barriers that prevent many students from reaching their full potential. I want to change that.
My mission is to ensure that all students—especially Hispanic and other minority groups—have the same opportunities to succeed as anyone else. This starts with raising awareness about the challenges faced by minority students, whether it’s through systemic inequalities, limited access to quality education, or cultural biases in schools. I plan to advocate for policies that promote inclusion, diversity, and equity in the classroom.
For example, I am working to bring attention to the importance of culturally relevant curriculum and support systems that reflect the diversity of our student population. Whether it’s by organizing workshops, hosting discussions, or collaborating with local organizations, I’m dedicated to creating spaces where these issues can be discussed openly. I also want to encourage young people from my community to pursue their dreams and show them that their voices matter. Everyone deserves an education that empowers them, and that starts with ensuring all students—no matter their race—have access to the same opportunities.
In my family, I strive to be a role model and a source of inspiration. Many of my relatives came to this country seeking a better life, and I want to honor their sacrifices by breaking down barriers and showing them what is possible. I want to demonstrate that no dream is too big, and that through education, hard work, and persistence, we can all achieve our goals.
I also understand the importance of fostering a sense of unity and support within my family. By sharing what I learn and encouraging open conversations about our cultural heritage, I hope to strengthen our bond and help my relatives feel empowered in their own journeys. Whether it's supporting them in their personal goals or helping them navigate the challenges they face as immigrants or children of immigrants, I want to be someone who makes a tangible difference in their lives.
In addition to my passion for advocating for equality, I am also an adventurous person who believes in exploring new horizons. I see adventure not just as physical exploration, but as a mindset that encourages growth, curiosity, and resilience. Traveling, meeting new people, and embracing different cultures has allowed me to see the world from many perspectives, and this shapes the way I view opportunities for change.
I bring this adventurous spirit to everything I do, whether it’s in my activism or in how I approach my own education. I’m not afraid to step outside my comfort zone, ask questions, and take risks, because I believe that’s how real growth happens. By showing others that it’s okay to be bold and pursue dreams—even if it’s scary—I hope to inspire those around me, including my family and my peers, to take their own leaps of faith.
In all that I do, whether it's advocating for equal rights for Hispanic students, supporting my family, or embracing adventure, I aim to make a positive impact. I believe in the power of community, education, and resilience, and I’m committed to creating a world where everyone has the chance to succeed—no matter their race, background, or where they come from. Through every challenge, I’ll keep pushing forward, inspired by the belief that each of us has the ability to make a difference.

"A Second Mother's Journey: Shaping My Identity"
As I was growing up, I became the default second mother to my siblings and my grandparents. My mother, bless her heart, worked tirelessly to put food on the table. In turn, I unwittingly took on the role of primary caregiver, making sure that the household runs smoothly and that everybody is gets their needs met. My experience as a second mother has helped mold me into the resilient and compassionate individual that I am today.
I can no longer remember what year I took on the role of a caregiver. All I know is that I did what I felt was right and I did everything I could to help out. I oversaw my siblings’ daily routines, I helped with their homework, I cooked their meals, and I cleaned the house. Aside from that, I took care of my grandparents, who were respectively suffering from depression and Alzheimer’s. I took on these responsibilities and I also pushed hard to excel at school. I taught myself how to manage my time properly, making sure that I get to finish my homework, study, and do my extracurricular activities, aside from my caregiving duties.
On the other hand, this journey is not without its sacrifices. I had to forego social activities and personal interests. It also pains me to admit it, but I was not able to take care of my emotional well-being and physical health. I also felt abandoned by my mother’s 24/7 work schedule. However, I chose to see things in a different light. I watched as my mother tirelessly made her own sacrifices to ensure that we always had what we needed. She is the inspiration for my work ethic and my determination.
But what else did I do to help out in my own way? I knew for a fact that my mother deserved to take a break. I wanted her to reap the fruits of her labor as well. I took the initiative to take on babysitting jobs to contribute financially to the household. I also secured a job at Synergy Freight Inc., which allowed me to work from home and at the same time, fulfill my duties as a caregiver. While our family is still a long way from living a life of luxury, I can honestly say that we have survived many storms together. For that, we emerged as a stronger and better family, well-equipped to fight through battles and support each other.
Through this journey, I learned the importance of family, support, hard work, and persevering against all odds. My role as a second mother also developed my compassion and nurturing nature, taught me how to be resilient and adaptable, and has prepared me for challenges in the future. Despite everything, I never saw my family as a burden, for they are my inspiration. They are the reason why I am writing this essay, determined to make a good life for them.
I love to volunteer in food drives and animal shelters helping the community. I also clean all the trash all over my community. I will do community meetings to here about the problems in my city and do something about it. i'll create a program where we donate hygine productes, etc to help out anyone in the community. I will help out all the single parents to, by proving caregiving services or ways to have their kids get taken care of withought having to affect one of their children like it did to me.

I am confident that this experience has made me strong enough to help me navigate through life without breaking a sweat. I have undergone a lot of self-discovery along the way. I am definitely confident that all of the qualities I got will continue to be useful in the next chapter of my life as a college student.
Texas Women Empowerment Scholarship
WinnerAs I prepare to attend the University of Texas, I'm reminded of the harsh realities of gender disparity in our state. The catcalls, whistles, and degrading comments from men who think they can get away with it are a constant reminder that we still have a long way to go in achieving true equality.
My personal experiences with gender disparity have been a driving force in my determination to create change. I've been belittled, mocked, and sexualized by men who thought they could assert their power over me. But one incident that still resonates with me was when a guy made fun of my appearance in front of my peers. It was a moment that could have broken me, but instead, it fueled my determination to fight back.
I remember feeling helpless and violated, like I was just another victim of a society that doesn't value women. But as I looked around, I saw that I wasn't alone. I saw women who had been through similar experiences, women who had been marginalized, objectified, and silenced. And I knew that I had to do something.
That's why I'm committed to studying Law Studies at UT. I want to use my education to amplify the voices of women across Texas, to create a society where we're valued and respected, not objectified and marginalized. I want to be part of a movement that challenges the status quo, that demands change, and that empowers women to speak out against gender disparity. Through volunteer work with organizations like the Texas Women's Foundation and paid internships with feminist advocacy groups, I'm able to make a difference and have a voice.
When I arrive at UT, I plan to continue this work. I want to create a movement that empowers women to speak out against gender disparity. I want to create safe spaces for women to share their experiences, to support one another, and to demand change. I want to show men that their actions have consequences, that their words have power, and that we won't be silenced or sexualized anymore.
In the end, it's not just about me or my experiences; it's about creating a Texas where women can thrive, free from gender-based discrimination and violence. It's about showing men that we're not objects, but agents of change. And it starts now.
I envision a future where women are valued and respected, where we're not judged by our appearance or our gender. I envision a future where women can walk across campus without fear of harassment or assault. And I know that with determination, hard work, and a commitment to change, we can create that future
