I decided to pursue a career in healthcare because I want to make a positive impact on the lives of the people around me. Growing up with a single mother, I saw how hard she worked to provide for our family and give me the opportunity to pursue my dreams. My father is a disabled veteran, and although my parents faced many challenges, they both taught me the importance of resilience, service, and never giving up. Watching my mother's determination inspired me to work hard for my own goals and to choose a career where I can help others. As a first-generation college student of Puerto Rican and Hawaiian descent, earning a degree means more than achieving a personal goal. It represents the sacrifices my family has made and the opportunities they worked so hard to give me. My faith in Jesus has also been a source of strength throughout my life. It has taught me to serve others with compassion, treat every person with dignity, and continue trusting God even when the path ahead is difficult. It has always been my dream to provide direct patient care and make a difference in people's lives. I know that healthcare is a challenging field, but I also know it is the kind of work that gives me a sense of purpose. Working as a radiology assistant has confirmed that healthcare is the right career for me. Every day I work with patients who are going through difficult situations, and I have seen how much compassionate care can mean to them. Even taking a few extra minutes to explain a procedure or help someone feel more comfortable can make a big difference. Those experiences have motivated me to continue my education and build the skills I need to become the best healthcare professional I can be. They have also shown me how important it is to treat every patient with kindness and respect, no matter what they are going through. I hope my background and experiences will help me connect with patients from many different cultures and make them feel seen and respected. If I receive this scholarship, I plan to use the funds first toward tuition to reduce the amount I have to borrow. Any remaining funds will help cover clinical travel expenses and my living expenses while I complete the program. This support would allow me to work fewer hours so I can spend more time studying, preparing for clinicals, and focusing on my education instead of worrying about finances. I am determined to complete this program whether I receive this scholarship or not, but receiving this support would make a big difference. It would allow me to focus more on becoming the best healthcare provider I can be while reducing some of the financial stress that comes with balancing work, school, and everyday expenses. I am grateful for the opportunity to be considered and will make the most of this investment in my education. My goal is to use what I learn to care for patients with compassion, reflect the values my faith has instilled in me, and give back to my community throughout my career.

Because of this, I often had to figure things out on my own, whether it was applying to college, completing financial aid forms, or planning my academic path. Even when things felt overwhelming, I stayed committed to my education because I knew it could create opportunities for both me and my family. These experiences are part of what inspired me to pursue a career in the medical field. Growing up, I saw how important healthcare is and how much of a difference compassionate medical professionals can make in someone's life. I want a career where I can help people during difficult times and make a positive impact on their well-being. Medicine gives me the opportunity to combine my desire to help others with my interest in science and learning. My faith in Jesus has also played a major role in my journey. Sometimes all it takes is seeing someone with a similar background succeed to realize that you can achieve your dreams as well.
