Wicked Fan Scholarship
I am a fan of Wicked because it changes the way I perceive stories "hero's" or "Villains". On the surface, Wicked is a musical and movie about spectacle and friendship, but underneath is a deeply emotional story about identity, the depth of connection, and how society decides who is good or evil. I love Wicked because of Elphaba's character- Instead of presenting her as a one-dimensional villain who was "evil" for the sake of being evil, the story showed her as a passionate, misunderstood, and deeply humane figure. Watching Elphaba's struggles with discrimination due to her green skin reflect real world problems. Wicked isn't a story painted black or white. Her journey reminds me that being different can be a source of strength rather than shame, which is shown through songs like "Defying Gravity", turning rejection into empowerment.
Wicked also stands out to me due to its themes. It challenges the idea that history is objective and shows different sides of a story. It shows how propaganda, power, and fear shape public opinion. These ideas are still relevant today, making Wicked a timeless piece of media. Wicked tells a story while also inserting important themes and asking important questions about morality, connection, and what the true meaning of "wicked" is.
