Bio
My life goals can be summed up in three words, love, give, and learn. I am currently working to receive my bachelor's degree in biology and then move to med school to earn a doctorate as an ER Doctor or a Pathologist. I also want to learn more languages on top of Spanish which I am already fluent. My hobbies a video games, magic, and sports. I also have an interest in hair styling. I'm a guy that doesn't go a day without styling and am constantly trying new products. Alongside my goal to become a Doctor I also have an interest in investing and becoming financially literate to best pave my path with the money I make and have, while along the way helping others. My main mission in life is to leave this world helping as many people as I could. Even if it means making them smile that day they were feeling extra low or giving them those two words of "keep going" to fuel them to succeed in whatever they are attempting to accomplish.

Novitas Diverse Voices Scholarship
Diverse voices in public relations have a very strong and important impact on shaping public narratives because they allow there to be a more accurate understanding of an individual's likes and wants. When dealing with public relations the idea is often to address the masses and make something that everybody will like. This often works but when using this approach they miss large markets of people. For example, Richard Montanez who is credited with creating the Flamin' Hot seasoning understood the Latino/Hispanic community because it was part of the community so he decided to create the seasoning that was similar in taste to Hispanic street vendor elote. By doing this he was able to move up in the company but Frito Lay was also able to create a new public image among Hispanics/Latinos before this sales in this demographic were very low probably due to the lack of taste representation for the community. This is just one example of the impact that diverse voices have on public relations. Another example is the removal of various people from logos that were from a segregated or offensive time for example Uncle Bens's Rice was changed to Bens's Originals, and the Washington redskins changed their name to Washington Commanders. Companies did this in response to the racist actions that took place in 2020. These companies recognized that their logo or names were out of date and racist or offensive. This is a great example of the impact that diverse voices have on public relations. Another example is one I heard at the Latinx Health Summit. They discussed that Latinos often don't seek medical care because of finances or lack of resources but because they don't feel understood by health professionals. At first, this does not make sense at all but if you dive more in it does. Being a part of the Latino community I understood that sometimes my grandparents or relatives would prefer to use some type of natural remedy over medicine to fix an illness because they think that they will get poisoned by the doctor or the doctor will prescribe a medicine that will not even help them with the issue they have. They feel this way because they don't understand or accept Western medicine or because doctors don't take the time to listen to them. Doctors often don't understand the language or the culture to properly address them. So what board members at the Summit discussed is that the healthcare system needs to have more Latino or diverse representation. Through these events and voices of individuals healthcare systems and companies like Kaiser, Dignity Health, Mayo Clinic, etc. will increase diversity thus changing their public relation image. Various examples show how diverse voices change and affect public relations.

I am an undergraduate student currently studying for a Biology degree with an emphasis on Human Biology and looking to add data science as a second major. I want to pursue medical school after my bachelor's. I chose the field of medicine to study because I think it is the most effective way to help others as much as possible. I understand and have found other careers that involve helping people as a doctor would but the field of medicine allows you to help others past your own life. For example, one long-term goal is to pursue research alongside my regular work, I currently work in my university biostat's core and have found a passion for data! I think this a an amazing way and if allowed to help others past the grave. The long-term goal of mine that is most important is to leave the world with an imprint. If I can help the lives of hundreds before my time runs out I know I loved the world the best I could following the steps of, Jesus. Some short-term goals of mine are to volunteer my time more by visiting community offices to see what is the best way to help. The city my university is in allows individuals to volunteer to help the homeless. I know every city offers this but the city of Merced suffers from a problem of homelessness if I can donate my time to help give a meal to others and spread the gospel and the good news of Jesus I want to help the most I can. Another short-term goal of mine is to grow more knowledgeable in my faith. Being an underrepresented minority in the field affects my career goals in the sense of damaged paradigms because as Latinos we aren't looked at as being capable of being doctors. After all, typically we work more blue-collar jobs. At times it is hard to keep pushing when it feels like you are looked down upon, but I also use it as fuel to push forward and be the best I can be in my field. It's disheartening to see that our world still holds such paradigms. That is just another reason why I try to love others as much as possible. That is the word that keeps me going love, because if we all love the world would be a whole lot better. This scholarship will help financially because I am part of a family of four soon to be five in May 2024. This will help my lifitign the burden of paying for my education from my family. I also doing my part taking loans out as needed as well as working a part-time job and I'm currently still looking at how to increase my funds.

Entering your adult life comes with many new responsibilities, to name a few bills, bills, and bills. A huge step in becoming an adult is having the ability to appropriately manage your income to account for your cost of living. This is where the math comes in, simple arithmetic and algebra aid in solving your financial budgeting. Add a few fees here utility bills and a couple extra dollars for the weekend is basic math and oftentimes goes unrecognized.
This is just one of many things in our everyday life that is math! I think the answer to what's the importance of math writes itself, math is essential to life. This is part of the reason why it is taught to us so at such a young age but also math is a two sided teacher. As a child when learning math we are taught basic arithmetic such as adding, subtracting, and multiplication but what this also teaches us is how to speak. Math is another avenue for us to practice our speech when counting or adding we slowly are adding new vocabulary to our young growing minds.
Aside from math being helpful and used in diurnal life it is also a huge stepping stone into the academic realm. STEM is an ever-growing felid that requires math. It's in the acronym M is MATH but all of the others still need a great portion of math to succeed. For example, the study of calculus seems useless to many I once thought this too, but it is quite important in the field of medicine. The concept of calculus is vital to the study of medicine because it allows the construction of a medical regimen that ensures there is no overdose and the illness is properly addressed. This is just one example that I know of because medicine is the path I wish to take, but there are countless more.
Math also is the sole reason for the intricate system of banking and taxation. I will start by speaking of taxes a thing most Americans hate but are crucial to the well-being of our nation. In the United States, there are a wide array of taxes that are all calculated by percentage; income tax, marginal tax, and payroll tax, to name a few. All these taxes are what allow our country to generate money to function. Another avenue of government that math is essential to is, interest rates. Thi once again is calculated using interest. The federal interest rate is what helps regulate the inflation of our national currency, without it our dollar would be worth nothing.
The reason that I love math the most is that it is universal, anywhere across the world regardless of language barriers math will be understood. Every year a math olympiad is held where all math lovers of the world can compete. This is a beautiful thing, something like math can bring the world together. Language is regional but math is global.
Mind, Body, & Soul Scholarship
What excites me most about college is the opportunities. As an incoming second year, I've seen a few of the ups and downs that can happen, but I've come to learn that at universities and colleges, we have the privilege to expand our horizons beyond our imaginations. I've come to learn skills and hobbies that I wouldn't have thought just a year ago I would be doing and loving.
The freshman experience is a rollercoaster of emotions one instant you are happy to be independent the next you miss the good old days. The college will open a lot of good and bad doors in your life and it can be challenging to choose the right decision but what I found to be the most helpful was finding others around me that share the same goals and aspirations as I do. In college, I came to understand the reality of the effect that those around me have. Finding good friends and acquaintances is great to give your mind and soul a break from the hard work you put in every day but also helps push you in the right direction. Finding people with similar interests or individuals you just hit it off with is a great way to maintain a healthy mind and soul. I speak from experience, inevitably, you will eventually hit burnout, you are tired, and just want to give up. This is what I felt my first semester but coming into the second have learned how to have a balance of work and life and friends have a lot to do with it.
Another way I keep my soul and mind in shape is by enjoying the outdoors. it is easy to take for granted the nature we have around us. For me, nature has become a place where I can pray, reflect, and plan. Countless times when I was uneasy about a situation, sitting outside around for about 15 to 20 minutes brought much calamity and tranquility and once I left I knew what I wanted my next steps to be. Outdoors also gave me a place to connect with God. I in college found myself going on what I saw to be the wrong path in the eyes of God. So my prayer increased, but the prayers that found to be the best for me and that left my soul feeling energized to conquer the day was those outdoors. It allowed me to connect with God in a way that I can't find indoors or in a building-polluted space.
I've talked about the mind and soul but have yet to talk about the body. The greatest way I've found to keep my body healthy is to stay active with those around me. Once you find those people that you connect with you will find things that you can all do to be active. For example, I found friends and acquaintances with that I can play basketball and soccer which are my two favorite sports. I also found interest in the gym and made friends there. But of course, everyone enjoys their time alone so I still make the time0 to run a mile on my own (although most abhor running, I love it !). The upside of doing things in a group is that you all have fun together.
These are just a few things that I do to keep myself healthy but I know that every individual has their own set of activities, and the beauty of it is that in college you learn what those activities are for you.
Rev. and Mrs. E B Dunbar Scholarship
Every student in pursuit of higher education will endure a multitude of unique obstacles. For me one large obstacle was finances, I come from a middle-class blue-collar Latino family. I cannot say I had a rough childhood thanks to my hard-working parents, but I didn’t have the luxuries that my fortunate peer had. As I grew so did our finances because of the hard work of my loving parents but these increases in funds did not help much when paying for college. My first semester payments after the aid of FAFSA were still hefty for my family. I decided to become proactive and found a job at my university dining hall to combat the issue. Through this, I was able to pay the second-semester bills! But I did not stop there, in my second semester with the help of God received the opportunity to aid in research and get paid for it! The research is amazing, not only am I learning more about the field of medicine, but these studies can aid thousands of people suffering from various complications.
When I found myself in this dilemma, I become proactive in an attempt to better the situation. As a child, my mind could not always comprehend the lesson that my parents wanted to bestow upon me until I matured and took life on, I learned that since birth my parents had always been individuals to be proactive to issues that arise, but I was not. This obstacle helped me learn a lesson from my parents. Now I look at any problem that arises as an opportunity to learn.
Since adolescence, I wanted an occupation that would help the lives of others, and through years of schooling, I grew a liking for the various sciences that our world had to offer. I loved learning about the intricate puzzle that is our bodies. The examination of cells never ceased to grasp my attention, the idea that these tiny particles are what keep the clock ticking was astonishing to me. Out of this fascination, the field of medicine became my home, one day I hope to reach the honor of becoming a doctor at a local ER. The question of giving back is intrinsically the exigence of my career path. As a doctor, I will be able to help hundreds of patients. I will aid in enlarging the life of individuals. That is what is going to keep me coming back every day. It is known that the title of doctor comes with a financial cushion. With this cushion, I will be able to live comfortably and provide for my family, but I will also have the blessing to donate much of my earnings and have a charity of my own to help end the issue of starvation in my state. Though it may seem small, to me it means the world to go to sleep knowing I helped out one person every day.

Throughout history, there have been various remarkable discoveries that have forever changed the world, but I think the most impactful and my favorite is the discovery of electricity. Before the time of Thomas Edison and the often forgotten Nikola Tesla, the world still used oil lamps and candles that were dangerous to have in any building; business was also a very burdensome task that required hours of writing and filing. All of this changed after Tesla and Edison devised how to harness electricity to use across all platforms of life. Since this discovery, life, as we know it, became easier and more innovative than it ever had been.
It took various trials and errors to perfect the transformers and receptors to finally have the ability to have electricity in our homes and turn the endless darkness of night off with a flip of a switch. As the decades passed on so did the capabilities of electricity; a time after we were able to create appliances, cars, computers, television, toys, and so much more. Business became easier now instead of writing for hours, files can be typed out in stored in a matter of minutes. Aside from the professional aspects of life everyday consumer life was also forever changed, tedious tasks became effortless and fast. For example, washing laundry and washing dishes. Also, entertainment forever changed. A play or a film could now be enjoyed from the comfort of your home, from the comfort of your hand.
The use of electively has aided the discovery of other various life-changing and life-saving discoveries. This is why it is my favorite without a doubt. I can't imagine life without it. Imagine not having an iPhone, how scary!!
