Women in Nursing Scholarship
Choosing to pursue a career in nursing is deeply connected to who I am as a person and the impact I hope to make in the lives of other people. I have always been someone who enjoys helping people, showing kindness, and being there for others during difficult times. My decision to become a nurse was influenced by my natural desire to care for people and my passion for making a positive difference in the lives of individuals and families. Nursing is more than just a career path for me, but a meaningful opportunity to combine compassion, leadership, and service into work that truly matters.
One of the main reasons I want to become a nurse is because caring for others comes naturally to me. I find joy in supporting people when they are vulnerable and helping them feel comforted and understood. Whether it is offering encouragement, listening, or helping someone through a difficult situation, I have always felt fulfilled when I am able to positively impact another person’s life. These qualities influenced my decision to pursue nursing because the profession reflects the kind of person I strive to be compassionate, selfless, dependable, and supportive.
In addition to my passion for helping others, my leadership qualities also influenced my decision to pursue nursing. I enjoy guiding and uplifting others while encouraging growth and confidence. Nurses are not only caregivers; they are also educators, advocates, and leaders who help patients and families navigate difficult situations. I admire the ability nurses have to provide reassurance during uncertain moments and to make patients feel seen, heard, and cared for. I hope to become that type of trusted support system for others.
More specifically, I aspire to become a pediatric nurse because I have a strong passion for helping children. Children often experience fear, confusion, and uncertainty during medical treatments, and I want to help create a positive and comforting experience for them. As a pediatric nurse, I hope to not only provide quality healthcare but also bring kindness, patience, and reassurance to children and their families during stressful times. I believe that even small acts such as making a child smile or helping ease a parent’s worries can make a meaningful difference.
My desire to work with children also comes from my belief that helping children means investing in the future. Healthy children are more likely to grow, learn, and succeed, which ultimately strengthens families and communities. By improving the health and well-being of children, I hope to contribute to a brighter future for the next generation.
Ultimately, nursing reflects both my personal values and my long-term goals. My passion for helping others, natural leadership, and commitment to kindness all influenced my decision to pursue this path. I look forward to turning these qualities into meaningful action through pediatric nursing and making a lasting impact on the lives of children and families.
GD Sandeford Memorial Scholarship
As a dedicated nursing student aspiring to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree(BSN), my commitment goes beyond simply acquiring clinical skills and medical knowledge. My goal is to use my education and experiences to positively impact the lives of others, especially within my community. I believe that nursing is more than a profession, but an opportunity to provide care, comfort, education, and advocacy to those who need it the most.
Receiving this scholarship would not only help me continue my education, but would also allow me to further my goal of giving back to the community through healthcare and service. One of the main ways I intend to use my education to benefit my community is by working in local healthcare settings where I can provide quality and compassionate care to individuals and families. I look forward to actively participating in community health programs that focus on improving access to healthcare, promoting wellness, and educating families about disease prevention and healthy lifestyles. I believe that improving community health starts with education and support. I hope to be someone that the community can trust and rely on during difficult times.
Particularly, I aspire to become a pediatric nurse because I have a passion for helping children. As a pediatric nurse, I hope to care for children experiencing health challenges while also creating a comforting and supportive environment for them and their families. Children often experience fear and uncertainty during medical treatments, and I want to be the type of nurse who not only provides excellent medical care, but also spreads kindness, patience, and reassurance. I believe small acts of compassion can make a major difference in a child’s experience during hospital visits. By helping improve the health of children, I also hope to strengthen families and communities. Healthy children are better able to grow, learn, and succeed, which ultimately contributes to a stronger future generation. I believe that helping children is a way of investing in the future because they are the next generation of leaders, workers, and changemakers. Through pediatric nursing, I hope to make a lasting difference by supporting both children and their families during vulnerable moments.
In addition to providing healthcare, I look forward to using my knowledge to educate families and answer questions they may have regarding their child’s health and well-being on a professional level. I want to be an advocate for patients and ensure that families feel informed, heard, and supported. With this scholarship and the education, it will help me achieve these goals, I will be able to turn my passion for helping others into meaningful action that benefits my community for years to come.

My name is Andrianna Yancy, I am a proud young African-American woman with a strong passion for leadership, service and healthcare. I’ve always seen myself as someone who leads with a purpose. Whether it is through volunteering, helping my community, or simply being someone others can look up to as I strive to be a positive example. Leadership is not just about taking charge, it’s about showing kindness and offering guidance in uplifting others. That’s who I am at my core.. a smart, kind and determined individual who wants to use her success to make a meaningful difference in the world.
I am currently a student at Delaware State University, where I am working towards earning my Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree. One of my biggest goals is to become a Pediatric nurse. Ever since I was young, I’ve had a deep interest in medicine, but more importantly, I’ve had a strong desire to help people — especially children. To me, children represent the future, and being able to care for them means playing a part in shaping what’s to come. Helping children heal, grow and thrive is not just a job I want— it is a purpose I am deeply compassionate about.
Success is very important to me, but I’ve come to realize that it’s not just about your accomplishments, it is also about what you do with that success. My vision of success includes using the opportunities I earned to give back in every way I can. I want my impact to go beyond the hospital. Yes, I want to care for patients, but I also want to be active in my community. I hope to promote health awareness, provide education to families, and serve as a resource for those who may not have access to proper healthcare.
In my career, I dream of building a happy, compassionate community, where kindness is a part of my daily life just like it is in my work. I want to create an environment both professionally and personally where people feel seen, heard and cared for. Whether it is comforting a child during a check-up or helping a family navigating illness, I want to be a source of support and light.
Receiving this scholarship will bring me one step closer to turning that dream into reality. With financial support, I can continue focusing on my education and prepare myself to be the best nurse I can be for my patients, my community, and the future I believe in.
Etherine Tansimore Scholarship
WinnerI'm Andrianna Yancy, a 17 year old African American with the passion of continual self-improvement and learning lovely new things that bring me inspiration. Especially for my future and about medicine.
To start off with my answer, I would like to talk about what factors, options, knowledge and opinions that took place for me to fancy the idea of becoming a Nurse. The first thing that made me so attentive on pursuing a medical career and even more as I got older was the different types of medicines and medical practices. There is herbal medicine which comes from the earth that is naturally provided to us and can be made at home. Then, there is general medicine which is made by pharmaceutical scientist and given from either a pharmacy or directly from a doctor. For medical practices there are things like Private Practice, Group practice, Hospital employment and Locum Tenens. Each medical practice has its own style and benefit that comes along with it to help me set up which type of Nurse I would like to be in my field. My choice as of now is to do private practice or group practice because it falls in line with my leadership style.
In my opinion, I believe that herbal medicine is the best option for me, but many people may think otherwise and that's ok. I believe this because of the natural benefits that herbal medicine comes with. It is different from general medicine because it doesn't cause as many symptoms or hurts the body in the process of healing it. However, as I pursue my career as a Pediatric Nurse I will be working with general medicine, but my opinion does not have to change. As a nurse, I could recommend herbal remedies if any families look for alternatives or have similar interest.
In the pursuit of my career goals, I am dedicated to becoming a Pediatric Nurse through the attainment of a Bachelor’s Science in Nursing Degree(BSN). My objective extends beyond the realms of healthcare as I aim to play a crucial role in shaping the future. I will focus on nurturing the well-being of children and I aspire to instill strength and resilience in them. By providing care infused with kindness and compassion, I believe in fostering a foundation that empowers the younger generation. Recognizing that children are the bedrock of the future, I am committed to ensuring their early years are marked by both physical well-being and emotional fortitude. This is how I plan on making a positive impact on the world through my medical career.
