Hello, my name is Andrea Morales and I am a senior at Pace University and pursing my Bachelors Degree is Business Management! I am loving my university and the classes that I have completed. I am super passionate about helping people, when it comes to finances, their mental health, and their physical health. Although we need to take psychology in our field, I went and took an extra 4 courses in the psychology field because I fell in love with it. I took these classes earlier in my student career, and I have always worked full time in the corporate world, and I can confidently say that taking those courses have definitely helped me better understand people. I worked in the banking industry because I always liked managing my own money since I was a kid, and figured that I should start a job at the bank when I graduated high school, and that's what I did! I was there for 3 years while in school and learned a lot being in that corporate world. One of the lessons I learned was that a lot of the people I worked with didn't want to work, and with that mind set they did not provide the best service to customers. I was very concerned about this and made it my duty to give the best service to people, and it was very important because we were dealing with their money. I used the skills that the bank had taught me and carries it into my personal life as well. I have helped several of my friends and family members improve on their credit health and with their financial goals. Along with finances, I am very focused on my physical health. I am a firm believer of "feel good, look good", It is very important to take care of your personal health. I enjoy helping my friends achieve their health goals as well, and with that I help with diet plans, and workout routines. During COVID-19 some of my cousins along with their friends opened up to me about how they had gained weight and they really wanted to workout but didn't know what to do and how to start. With this being a concern to them, it made me concerned because I want to make sure that they are feeling their best, so I started zoom workout sessions 3x-4x a week with whoever wanted to join in! It felt rewarding knowing that I was able to help them. Another reason why I took several psychology courses was because, I love learning why someone feels/acts a certain way and what is the best way to communicate with them. I love being a listening ear when someone needs it, and with their permission I try to give the best possible advise that I can give. As you can see, I really do enjoy and love helping people no matter what the topic is, and that is why I want to pursue my career and become a Financial Advisor. With becoming a FA I will be able to help people with their Finances, I will need active listening skills to better understand their needs, and I will make sure to be in shape so I can have the energy! I will be taking the extra courses, and study time in order to pursue this career and be the best that I can be!

My name is Andrea S Morales Berthet and I am the first generation to be born in America. I come from a Guatemalan background with my grandparents helping to raise my brothers and I so my parents can work. Most days I would help my Grandmother make typical dishes, such as; Tamales, Pupusas, Empanadas and a lot of Stews. I was raised in Bloomfield, New Jersey and was surrounded by a wide variety of cultures in my town. In my teenage years my family moved to North Jersey, which I came quick to learn that the town was very different from my hometown. The new school I was attending was a different environment than I was used to, I wasn't surrounded by a wide majority of the students coming from different backgrounds. I did not have any issue with it, however, it was harder to make friends. I was use to bringing in lunches that involved different "smells", for example I would have steak tacos and have all the side dressings to put on it. Many students that I was surrounded by made comments about my food, some were not nice. I was use to switching lunches in my old school because my old friends and I wanted to try all the other foods, and there I was in my new school and people are making faces and talking about it. Me being the person I am, I addressed these comments to those students and informed them that they were being very disrespectful. Some of those students that I had told that were being disrespectful came later on to me and asked how they were being rude, and I had told them that making those comments hurt my feelings and felt like they were making fun of my culture and apologized. I remember going home that day and telling my parents that I felt like I just didn't belong there and missed my hometown, but what my parents did next really changed my situation there. That night they made extra food for me to bring to school the next day so that they can try the food, and they were so confident that the students would like it and they told me that they probably just have never been exposed to it before. That next day at lunch I offered the extra food to the students that had apologized and my parents were right, they loved it! I introduced them to new foods and being able to see that they really enjoyed it brought me happiness. Ever since that happened when I was younger, I realized that not everyone was raised the way my parents raised me. I can’t expect everyone to be respectful, and trust me I learned that quick when I started working at my first job! Throughout my journey so far, it is sad to say, but they are still people in this world who look down and judge the Hispanic community. I have had several comments be made to me, but I have learned to correct their comments and stand up for my people. I am not the oldest in my family and I am not the youngest, but I do hold the title of “Leader” because I ensure that my brothers and cousins are successful in whatever they do. Our Grandparents and Parents have worked so hard for us to be where we are today, and no comment will stop us from working. We just have to be patient, work hard, and teach/show people that we were raised with respect and we deserve respect back.
