My mother is a single parent who works so much so my little sister and I could have a good education. I came to California by myself to get a good education. It has been challenging since day number one. I got two jobs at the College I used to attend. I was a cashier at the bookstore and a cashier and general helper at the flea market at the College. Even though I had two part-time jobs, it was not enough to survive. I remember having only five dollars in my pocket for the whole week. I babysat, walked dogs, and started bartending at a restaurant to pay my college fees and living. I had to drop out and work so I could eat. I was so sad I did not meet my mother's wishes. I have three children and am trying to teach them the values my mother taught me. I am not a single parent, but it feels like I am because my husband is a disabled veteran with PTSD, and I also have to take care of him. I am an undergraduate seeking my bachelor's, and it has not been easy. I am so passionate about education and teaching Spanish. I volunteer at the library to read Spanish books weekly to children. We used to live at a ranch, so I would read about bunnies and bring the bunny from home. The children would absolutely love to come to the reading time. Years passed, and I got an outstanding job helping students with English as a second language at a middle school. However, I realized I wanted to return to school and complete my education, so here I am, struggling financially because I had to leave my job to focus and take in-person classes. I have a family of 5, and my husband is a disabled veteran. One of the things that my mother taught me was that education is essential, and now that I am an adult and a mother, I can understand why my mother always wanted me to complete my education. Everything I do, I do it with love. My goal is to inspire students to like to learn another language, and for the ones that already know the language, I would love them to learn how to write it correctly. Nevertheless, One of my main goals is to inspire and motivate students. Motivation is powerful, and that is what drives me every day. I can only make my dream come true with the financial support. My mother is currently taking English classes. She is sixty years old and has finally decided to take that step, and I am very proud of her. She says that I motivated her because of my dedication to school. My three children witnessed me graduating from a two-year community college with my associate, and I really want them to see me graduate with my bachelor's degree this May 2024. The only issue that is stopping me is the fees. I need to take winter classes that are not covered by financial aid.
