The reasons I wanted to choose a healthcare career vary. I believe it will allow me to care for and help people, have a good salary, and gain experience that will be useful for my whole life. I want to pursue becoming a registered nurse at first, then pursue to expand my knowledge and become a labor and delivery nurse, where I can be a part of bringing life into the world. I wanted to work in healthcare to help people and be compassionate towards their situation, so patients feel comfortable with me. I’ve always been drawn to blood, surgery, and seeing open wounds because I’ve always thought it was fascinating. Growing up, my grandmother was a nurse in Guatemala and had opened a small clinic in her home to care for anyone in her neighborhood. When I would visit her, I would see her inject people, sew open wounds, give out medication, and care for people. Whenever I was with her, I would always like to help her in these situations. Another reason I’m interested in healthcare is because I have family who have brain trauma that was caused by an accident on a motorcycle years ago. From what I remember, they took a part of his brain out and he was in a coma for a couple of months. After many surgeries, he woke up and for about 6 years now he can speak slowly and has some movement in his arms but not much in his legs. Finding someone to care for him is tough, making me want to become a nurse to contribute to someone’s well-being. I also have very close relatives who have developed cancer, and I have seen them struggle with chemo and surgeries. I see that nurses contribute to their well-being all the time in the hospital, showing compassion and care towards my family. This is my goal during my career, to make patients feel comfortable in their process. Working in healthcare provides a great salary to live a good life. I grew up having everything I needed and more, but also saw the struggle my parents put into their jobs so that their children could go to school and do what they didn’t have the chance to do. My parents have always pushed me to have a good education so I wouldn’t have to go through the tough moments and poverty they went through when they were my age. I want to make them proud and want them to know that I will do great on my own. Apart from doing something I love, I will get paid very well, this way I can buy my home and even help my parents in their old age. I also could help my sister pay for school once she gets older and provide for my future children.

My dream is to become a labor and delivery nurse because I believe that bringing life into the world and caring for mothers is something extremely important. I love caring for babies and want to care for the mothers the way I want to be treated when I'm in their shoes. In many cases I've read, I have seen mothers complain about the lack of attention and care they receive when giving birth and after, and I don't want them to feel this way when I'm caring for them. I can also reflect my knowledge to new mothers, educating or enlightening them on some things they may not have known.

The reasons I wanted to choose a healthcare career vary because of some life experiences. For example, if my parents ever fell ill and needed at-home attention, I could always be there for them and care for them, the same can go for any family members. Later, when I have children, I would already know the birthing process and care for a baby during that moment. It doesn't always have to go to extremes, my nursing career can help me treat minor things like small open wounds at home and I'll know when things can be treated at home and when we need to go to the hospital. Bold Happiness Scholarship
Many factors contribute to happiness. What makes me happy is traveling to see my family. Each year my parents and I plan a trip to Guatemala to visit family. Most of my family lives there, so it is a joy every time I go. We mostly spend time with my grandparents on my mother's side since my grandparents on my father's side sadly passed. My grandparents are very loving towards me and always treat me like a princess whenever I see them. Traveling has made my life happier because I get to escape reality for a few weeks and see new places. I have also traveled to another state which is very fun and exciting. These new experiences and new memories are the key to building new pathways in my brain. Which causes me to be more creative. Apart from the love I receive from family I get to learn many new languages and cultures which contribute to my happiness.

One of my boldest moments in my life was swimming with dolphins. This was a very bold Monet for me because I was very afraid of marine life and water due to a very bad experience at the beach when I had almost drowned.I remember thinking it was my last moment of life and thanks to a life guard it wasn’t.I grew a deep fear of anything to do with water up until this moment. It was a very great and helpful moment where I felt safe and was very fun to do.
John J. DiPietro COME OUT STRONG Scholarship
A great role model in my life today is my father.I am remined everyday of his achievement because everything I own is proof of it.My father didnt get a higher education than 6th grade and has become a very succesful person today becaise he knws how to make money work for him instead of him working for the money. My dad started at a very young age making money, but it wasnt hundreds or thousands. He started off when he was 10,and my grandma would give him two pennies everyday to get a snack at school, instead of spending it he saved them and would take food from home. When he raised $6.00 he bought a pig,fed it and took care of it and later sold it for $10.00.My dad always knew how to do business and how to administer his money very well. This is what my dad likes to do, business. What i've learned from him is that you can start with so little and one day make it big,he was a little kid without many opportunities but he knew how to take advantage of the small ones he did have.I want to be like him and he is teaching me how he has done everything so When the day comes where I am an independent I will be financially stable and know what to do with myself. He tells we I have so many opportunities unlike him and that I should take advantage of them. One of them is being able to go to college and get an education,to get a degree and get a good job.For everything my father has done for me he asks nothing else from me then to go to college because it is his dream to see me successful and I want to cease this opportunity.
Nikhil Desai Reflect and Learn COVID-19 Scholarship
During this global pandemic,my life has changed in many areas. Not being able to go to school and get a hand on learning experiencing and participating in my senior events has effected my mood and I have been missing my friends.I also participate on online distance learning which I feel is still new to me,not only am I participating in this but also my younger sister. This has been such a stressful time for us because it's confusing,Not only do I have to learn through a screen and get my work done but also help my sister get into her classes, make sure she turns in her work, give her food during the day and make sure she is paying attention.I am so thankful tat during these times my parents are still working but it is very hard to deal with not only my grades but my sisters aswell since I am the only one who understands english in this household. It hasnt just affected my academic life but also has affected my mental and emotional health, during these times you spend all your time at home.Seeing my parents and sister all day and not having a break from being with them is exhausting and they affected me in so many ways.I've gained weight during all these months and get reminded of these thing on a daily or get criticed by many other things. This would happen before the pandemic aswell but when I would see my friends they would help me cope with it and sometimes I would just forget.Another thing COVID-19 had affected were my travel plans, since I had previosly lived in Guatemala for a couple of years I made lots of friends and even have a long distance relationship.I've felt very heart broken because I am not able to see my friends or loved ones, but I pray and hope that things will get better and back to normal and we all can continue without all these feelings and move on to another chapeter in our lives.
