My name is Andre Shelby Jr. I am a visonary and I am 18 years old. I am come from a low-middle class family of 9. My father, Andre Shelby Sr. recommended me to the University of Arkansas at Pinebluff, his workplace, hereout referred to UAPB, where I am pursuing a bachelor's in Agricultural Engineering - although the occupation focus is only a step to my actual career goals - where I wish to found a for-profit organization offering affordable solutions to Agricultural, Civil, and Environmental issues such as: environmental and civil pollution, the clash of farmland with the environment, the increases in food prices relative to pay wages, lack of qualitative resources for communities, and the costs of terraforming environments for nature reclamation and civil development purposes.
I am pursuing my degree at University of Arkansas Pinebluff because it is an affordable, community oriented, local university with a decent background in agriculture. The benefit of attending UAPB is that it presents me a platform to pursue my goals, or at least the support to start pursuing them, as it places me closer to my own community, which suffers from lack of resources, funding, talent, and innovation.
See - one could always just leave and go somewhere else where those problems don't exist, that was an option gor me, and it is - was - or could be an option for a lot of highschool graduates. But that very thing is another problem with the local community here at Pinebluff - potential future talent that could fix things leaving because they don't know or don't care. I figure that if I can go on out and a make name for myself with this college, then my accomplishments could shine light on UAPB, show people that success can and is found here. And I wouldn't just be the only one. I'd be one of the many agents of change working towards that same goal.
But as for my degree? The education I receive towards my degree will be necessary to solve one of the biggest and most widely affecting problems not just affecting Pinebluff, but many underfunded communities across the U.S. and the global community. Currently, in Pinebluff, food prices often present themselves as oppressive, be it over-inflated fast food or expensive produce. Either are caused by crop shortages and Agricultural practices marching towards inefficiency. As a result, many low and even middle income families struggle to keep themselves fed, often having to take out a small fortune just to be fed for a week (or less!). One of the ways I think could be a good solution to this problem is purchasing land downtown in the derelict office and manufacturing sect, and converting the cheap property into year round, sustained, hydroponic towers that are government funded through taxpayers, with the emphasis being that easy growing, nutritious, local cheap foods owned by the community will force private wholesales to lower their prices.
