Bio

As a person of color, persons have always told me that I would always be a minority or at a disadvantage. However, I believe that as long as I am passionate about what I do, whether it's my school work or my extra-curricular activities, I would get to where I want to be. I am interested in Computer Science programming and Information Technology problem solving as my goal after university is to become a computer systems analyst and programmer in attempts to further the technology industry in addition to serving my country in the Airforce in the future.

Angelica Song Rejection is Redirection Scholarship
The system used to determine the capability of students’ success at the prestigious school that I attended was labeled “Traffic Light System.” The system consisted of the three traffic light colors; green, amber, and red-light zones. The red light zone was the category assigned to students like myself, representing a small percentile of the students that the school defined as underperforming or those whom they expected would underperform, decided through attentiveness and/or coursework grades by comparing students’ average performance. Being told that I was in the red light zone felt as though they expected little to no success from me and that was the position I accepted, a red light and a stopping point. This was a difficult challenge to face, having no motivation to study or complete schoolwork, satisfied with receiving low grades because I assumed no one would be disappointed. This also affected my ability to be a school prefect or be included in the honor society as I fell too short to be recommended into either position, therefore being rejected. However, my potential, which had been masked and hidden to me, was the aspect that stood out to my two form teachers. They observed that the system had a severe impact on me, comparing myself to my friends and classmates who had been placed in the green light zone, rather than being motivated by the system to do better. They set up a meeting, although being hesitant at first I attended. It was only a short chat, but it was one of the most impactful statements that continue to stay with me. “A red light is not a stop sign”, one of my teachers stated, followed by the explanation that a red light would always turn green, the red light would not stop me forever and it should not hinder my attempt in trying my best. At the time, my form teachers were unaware of how that metaphor would push me to unlock my potential and I wanted them to be proud of me. I began scheduling study time tables that I stuck to and it showed in my grades, receiving the marks that I would previously only dream of getting. In the end, I graduated as one of the top 30 pupils in my year group, being accepted into Bishop Anstey Trinity College East Sixth Form, one of the most competitive Sixth Forms in the country. Currently, I am in my second year of school, taking on additional subjects, excelling as one of the best students, and as a member of the school’s honor society. An inconvenience is no longer something that would stop me from pursuing my future. I just need to remember that no matter the difficulty I might face, I would be a green light.

Filled with dread and fear of being spun upside down whilst the contraption spun in circles seemed as though it would only be a nightmare, but as much as I felt fear, I felt excited to be able to look out at the ocean and mountains whilst being upside down. The ride lasted five minutes but the scenery made it feel like seconds being able to capture this beautiful sight from so high up. The thrill of it all changed my opinion from a "nightmare" because as I came off the ride, I went right back to it again.
    Act Locally Scholarship
The world is a delicate life form that acts just as strong as we do. It doesn't want to show that it is hurt, yet it hurts. As an Environmental Club Vice President, I bring awareness to the current environment, how it affects us, and what we can do about it. However, as another citizen of the country, my voice does not make the impact as it should. The world is our home, not the house we live in, but our forever home yet we destroy it as though it does not host the entirety of humanity as well as every other life form. In the world, I want to be able to turn on my television to hear another species becoming extinct or the rate at which we might all become extinct. This is the change, to hear that we saved the Earth, we tried everything using our best abilities. To do this, we must focus on our country. As a country, we strive to be the best economy possible, through the trade of goods and services and who has the best raw materials to be used to make a profit that increases the value of the country's dollar. We never focus on sustaining the environment that we inhabit. In the country, I would like more persons and citizens to fight for a better environment, including acting on preserving forestry by putting bans and concessions, eliminate the number of gases and fossil fuels used as a country by carpooling, switching to electric cars, or even Compressed Natural Gas that reduces the abundance of gas emissions, or using fewer chemicals and pesticides in gardens and during farming as it washes into the sea and harms our animals. Nevertheless, a lot of people in the country are blind to their mistakes as they only see it as a benefit to the country to make more money. Therefore, the duty to educate usually begins through the formation of a community. A community can be the neighborhood you live in or a group of persons you share similar interests. As a community, I would like to start petitions for resolving issues in the area or even in the country. This involves addressing and sharing information to the public about current events such as the disobeying of littering protocols and laws which lead to pollution of land, rivers, and oceans or to form bans on chemical pesticides, hunting endangered and sacred species, and other smaller issues which can expand into larger topics in future. As a citizen and a student, I aim to advocate for the students who join the Environmental club as well as those who are interested in changing the environment for the better by showing videos of situations in our country and our world to educate them on how we can all help the environment. I make a difference one step at a time through each member because eventually, I can influence my community and start this chain for a better country and a better world.
Future Leaders in Technology Scholarship - High School Award
My goal has always been to be a part of the United States Air Force (USAF) in some aspect, whether being the one who would pilot an airplane or one who would fight for the country. However, as I got older, I realized that all aspects, frontline or background, of the Air Force, are important. Graduating from high school made me think about a career path that I really wanted to pursue and having favored Python programming in Information Technology, as well as through Air Force research, I decided that aspiring to be a Computer Systems programmer in the USAF would be the best logical career path to facilitate both indulgences, which means having to attain a Computer Science degree. When I began my journey at BATCE Sixth Form, picking up Computer Science as an extra subject seemed like it would be difficult; but from the moment I began the subject, I found myself enjoying C programming and being able to focus on the code I learned to build up a wider interest and respect for the subject. I want to not only get theoretical knowledge but also obtain hands-on experiences I could partake in to help create a more efficient path for myself to becoming a better programmer. Despite just beginning to develop my education on coding languages, I aim to be diverse in the coding techniques and languages available, to foster an environment conducive to allowing myself to become the best Computer Science student and future programmer. I am aiming high to provide services that will reduce risks and the number of incidents that may impact my career industry and field, by being able to provide solutions to problems through developing codes that minimize risks that can be used for a long period of time. Although people would not see me on the front lines, I know I would be aiming high to help persons in this field have an easier job that would be advantageous to the running of the Air Force.
    Undiscovered Brilliance Scholarship for African-Americans
My "big dream" has always been to be a part of the United States Air Force (USAF) in some aspect, whether being the one who would pilot an aeroplane or one on the frontlines fighting for the country. However, as I got older, I realized that all aspects, frontline or background operations, of the Air Force, are important. Graduating from high school made me think about a career path that I really wanted to pursue and having favoured system analyzing in Information Technology, as well as through Air Force research, I decided that aspiring to be a Computer Systems Analyst in the United States Air Force would be the best logical career path to facilitate both indulgences. Public policy is a generally wide career environment giving an opportunity to pursue anything from the management of a business to analyzing the implemented systems that are used during problem-solving of a business. When I began my journey at Bishop Anstey Trinity College East Sixth Form, picking up my chosen subjects seemed as if this would be difficult. These subjects consisted of Information Technology and Computer Science which I found myself enjoying the ability to engage in problem-solving whether it was simple or complex problems that would need to be solved. In addition to the previous problem-solving subjects, Entrepreneurship was another important subject which helped me to understand the concept of business principles. Combined, all these subjects have shaped my learning by being able to better my knowledge in order to pursue this field. My aim as a systems analyst of the US Air Force is to become well known in the Public policy industry as well as assist the country by making a difference as a member of the Air Force. This would impact me as being able to hear "Anasha can do this" at any problem that the US Air Force might throw my way and would mean that I am on my way to becoming someone who can help with achieving solutions to problems necessary for development in the industry. Although people would not see me on the front lines, I know I would be aiming high to help persons in this field have an easier job that would be advantageous to the running of the Air Force. Despite just beginning, to develop on my problem skills, I intend to further my education by being involved in practical learning and other practice in order to foster an environment conducive in allowing myself to become the best student and best Computer Systems Analyst as I believe that I can make an impact on the Computer Science industry and Air Force field by using my resources and education to my advantage through continuous study and passion for programming. Moreover, I balance my love for my future career with spending time attaining to community service opportunities such as attending beach cleanups hosted by board members, including myself, the Environmental Club or by lending a helping hand at the NALIS library, which I aspire to continue throughout my life as it is something that helps my community grow to be cleaner and stronger. Conclusively, although there are challenges that might be faced and difficulties that I may experience to develop into who I want to be, I am willing to fight for my goals and my big dream because I know that I will be efficacious.
