Bio

I come from a low-income family and will be the first in my family to pursue a college education. Despite financial challenges, I have remained committed to my education and motivated to create a better future. My goal is to work in the medical field, where I can help others and make a positive impact on my community. Receiving scholarships would not only relieve the financial burden of attending college but also allow me to focus fully on my studies and take the steps necessary to achieve my dream of becoming the first in my family to earn a degree and build a meaningful career in healthcare.

My long-term goal is to become a pediatric nurse. I have always had a passion for helping others, especially children, because they are among the most vulnerable and deserving of compassionate care. I want to be someone who can make a difference in a child’s life during difficult times, whether that is by providing comfort, medical care, or simply being a reassuring presence. Nursing is more than just a career to me; it is a calling that combines my desire to serve others with my interest in healthcare. I am especially drawn to pediatrics because of the household I grew up in. With my mom being emotionally unavailable but physically present and my dad being incarcerated, I had nobody to open up to. This scholarship would mean a lot to me because of my family’s financial situation. I come from a single-parent household. My mother works hard every day to support me and my two siblings, while also balancing her job and her own education. She has always done everything she can to provide for us, but paying for college is a significant financial burden. Additionally, growing up with my father incarcerated for ten years of my childhood presented both emotional and financial challenges that have shaped who I am today. These experiences have taught me resilience, independence, and the importance of perseverance. Despite these obstacles, I have remained determined to succeed, create a better future for myself, and be a positive role model for my younger siblings. One experience that deepened my passion for nursing was volunteering at Building One Community, an organization that supports immigrant families. I am a homework help/tutor at their organization helping children with their math assignments and reading. Each week I am reminded how powerful my presence can be. Many of the kids are shy or unsure, but with patience and unwavering support, they open up and begin to trust me. Watching them grow in confidence and knowing they feel safe enough to ask for help has been an eye opening experience. Through those encounters, I’ve learned to notice the needs that aren’t always spoken aloud, the quiet struggles people carry and the feelings they may not know how to express. That is one of the biggest reasons I want to become a pediatric nurse. Children in hospitals are often scared, vulnerable, and unable to express what they feel fully. I know what it’s like to need someone who not only sees your needs but also comforts you in ways words can’t. I would use this scholarship towards my college tuition as I prepare to attend Delaware State University in the Fall of 2026. This opportunity means so much to me because Delaware State has been my dream school since my freshman year of high school. From the moment I began thinking seriously about my future, I knew I wanted to attend a university that would not only challenge me academically but also support my personal growth. Being accepted into my dream school is already a huge milestone, and this scholarship would help make that dream financially possible. Receiving this scholarship would not only ease the financial stress on my mother but also allow me to focus more on my education and career goals. It would bring me one step closer to becoming a pediatric nurse and achieving the dreams I have worked so hard for. More importantly, it would serve as a reminder that my hard work, resilience, and dedication are recognized and valued, motivating me to continue striving for excellence.
