    YOU GOT IT GIRL SCHOLARSHIP
My Basketball Journey and Future Goals Basketball has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started playing when I was just five years old, and the game quickly became more than a hobby it became my passion, my discipline, and my dream. By the eighth grade, I was playing high school basketball, and from that point forward, my dedication to the game only grew. By my senior year, I had earned the honor of being captain of the varsity team, leading my teammates both on and off the court. One of the highlights of my career was being named Local Player of the Year, an achievement that represented not only my hard work but also the countless hours of sacrifice and training I put into the sport. However, my journey has not been without challenges. Transitioning from high school basketball to the college level was far more difficult than I expected. In high school, I was a star player, constantly on the court and playing a key role in every game. In contrast, as a college freshman, I found myself spending far more time on the bench than I had ever imagined. The adjustment was humbling, and at times, it was discouraging to go from being a leader to barely seeing minutes of play. But what could have broken my spirit instead became an opportunity for growth. That first year of college basketball taught me resilience and patience. I learned that growth isn’t always immediate and that success often requires perseverance through difficult times. Instead of giving up, I committed myself to improving my game, studying film, and training harder than ever. I also focused on being a supportive teammate, understanding that leadership isn’t only about scoring points but also about uplifting others and setting an example of dedication. That season helped shape me into a stronger, more mature athlete and person. Throughout my journey, my biggest inspiration has always been my dad. He was my first coach, the one who introduced me to the game I love. Like me, he also played basketball at the collegiate level, and his guidance has shaped not only my skills but also my character. I have always admired his discipline, work ethic, and passion for the sport. Looking up to him motivated me to push through my own challenges and reminded me of the bigger picture basketball is not just about personal accolades, but also about growth, perseverance, and love for the game. Winning this scholarship would mean more than financial support it would represent the continuation of a dream that started when I was five years old. The reality of college is that the financial burden can be overwhelming, and scholarships are essential to allowing me to focus on both my education and my athletic career. My goal is not only to complete my undergraduate degree but also to pursue a master’s degree, furthering my education and setting myself up for success beyond basketball. Every bit of financial support I receive brings me closer to making that a reality. Basketball has shaped who I am today. It has given me opportunities, taught me resilience, and instilled in me values that extend far beyond the court. From the little girl dribbling a ball at age five, to the high school captain celebrated for her leadership, to the college freshman learning humility and growth, my journey has been one of challenges and triumphs. With the support of this scholarship, I will continue to grow not only as an athlete but also as a student and future professional, making my dad and myself proud.

Although I am only 19, choosing a career path is one of the most important decisions in life, and for me, the choice to pursue special education teaching comes from both passion and purpose. I have always believed that every child deserves a fair chance at learning, growing, and becoming the best version of themselves. However, I also recognize that not every student learns in the same way or at the same pace. Some face learning, developmental, or physical challenges that require additional guidance, patience, and creativity from educators. For me, stepping into the role of a special education teacher means becoming an advocate, mentor, and champion for those students. It means ensuring they not only receive an education but also experience the joy of knowing they are capable, valued, and respected. Coaching youth sports has help me focus on this goal tremendously. At the heart of my passion is the belief that teaching is about more than academics it is about guiding students toward self-discovery and helping them see their own worth. This is especially true for students with special needs. Too often, they are judged by their limitations rather than celebrated for their strengths. My aunt is an ABA Therapist who has guided me to belief as a teacher, you want to change that perspective by focusing on what students can do, encouraging them to take pride in their abilities, and helping them grow in confidence. When I imagine myself in a classroom, I see myself not just teaching lessons but also building relationships, fostering resilience, and inspiring students to believe in themselves. A central part of my mission as a special education teacher is helping students “experience a sense of their own presence.” This statement means recognizing and affirming that each student matters, has a voice, and holds a meaningful place in the world. Experiencing one’s presence is about more than simply being physically present in a classroom it is about feeling seen, understood, and empowered to contribute. For special needs students, achieving this sense of presence can make a significant difference in their educational journey. It gives them the courage to participate, the motivation to push through challenges, and the belief that their contributions matter just as much as anyone else’s. To accomplish this mission, I plan to take a holistic approach that blends individualized learning, inclusion, and emotional support. My first step will be to design instruction that is personalized to each student’s strengths and needs. Special education is not about fitting students into a rigid curriculum; it is about adapting teaching strategies to meet students where they are and guiding them forward. For example, if a student struggles with reading but excels in hands-on learning, I would use interactive activities and visual aids to reinforce lessons. By focusing on how a student learns best, I can help them engage more deeply and experience the satisfaction of success. Equally important is fostering a classroom culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion. I want every student to feel that they belong in the learning community, regardless of their differences. This involves encouraging peer collaboration, teaching empathy, and modeling respect for all abilities. When students work together and support one another, they begin to see that everyone has something valuable to contribute. In this type of environment, students with special needs can gain confidence, build friendships, and develop a stronger sense of identity. Another way I will help my students experience their presence is by setting individualized goals and celebrating achievements. Progress looks different for every child, and in special education, even small milestones are worth recognizing. Whether it is a student learning to write their name, participating in class discussions, or mastering a new life skill, I believe these moments deserve celebration. Acknowledging progress reinforces the idea that every effort matters and every step forward is a victory. These celebrations can help students internalize the belief that they are capable of growth and success. Beyond academics, I also see my role as helping students develop life skills that empower them beyond the classroom. Teaching problem-solving, self-advocacy, and communication skills are just as important as teaching math or reading. By equipping students with these tools, I can help them build independence and prepare for life’s challenges. My mission is not only to educate but also to guide my students in becoming confident individuals who can navigate the world with resilience and pride. Ultimately, I am passionate about becoming a special education teacher because it allows me to combine compassion, creativity, and advocacy in a way that makes a lasting impact. Every student deserves to experience success, and I am committed to being the teacher who helps them discover it. By focusing on individualized instruction, fostering inclusion, celebrating achievements, and nurturing life skills, I will guide my students toward experiencing their own presence knowing they matter, that they are capable, and that they have a meaningful place in the world. For me, this profession is more than a career goal; it is a lifelong mission. Teaching in special education requires patience, dedication, and heart, but it also offers the privilege of witnessing students grow in confidence, strength, and self-worth. That is the kind of impact I want to make, and that is why I am passionate about this path.
