Hello! My name is Anahi Sotelo. Thank you for taking the time to check out my Bold.org profile! As a junior in high school, I have already decided on my future career as a lawyer and am fully committed to working hard to achieve success in this field. My ultimate goal is to own my law firm one day and be a part of a case that makes history. Despite still being in high school, I am taking college courses to earn my associate's degree. In 2025, I will graduate high school with my associate's degree.
I spent the first 9-10 years of my life in Fort Worth, Texas, after my parents moved there from California in search of better opportunities for our family. Growing up in poorer areas of Los Angeles, they wanted a brighter future for me and my siblings so my parents enrolled me in a high school that also offered college courses, which financially benefited our family.
As previously stated, my goal is to become a lawyer and eventually establish a firm. Many have pointed out that this profession suits my personality, as I am capable of standing by my decisions while still demonstrating respect for others. While I am not yet certain of which area of law I wish to focus on, I am confident that I will find my calling. What drives me every day is the importance of being bold, courageous, and confident in all aspects of life, particularly in education. I hope to encourage others to fearlessly pursue their dreams and persevere through challenges.

Ward Green Scholarship for the Arts & Sciences
As a current high school and college student, I have made the decision to plan on studying Law and Criminal Justice in the future. This would be necessary as my goal is to become a Criminal Justice Lawyer. We know lawyers today as people who civilly, and legally fight for something or someone and represent individuals or groups in legal affairs. This is precisely what a criminal lawyer is. For instance, a defense attorney represents the defendant who has been charged and prosecuted while a prosecutor, represents the plaintiff who presses charges on the defendant, investigates, and prosecutes those who are accused of breaking the law.
A good lawyer is someone who advocates for justice and righteousness, based on authentic evidence. They defend individuals who cannot defend themselves and uphold the law. This is the type of lawyer I aspire to be. I will study diligently to excel in my education in Law and Criminal Justice, and then utilize my knowledge and skills to defend my clients, win their cases, and uphold the law with factual evidence.
Although there are many competent lawyers worldwide, some of them can be self-centered and avaricious. Nevertheless, I aspire to be the exact opposite. My objective is to support those who are unable to defend themselves legally and financially. Numerous individuals across the globe encounter legal issues but lack the necessary resources to fight back or protect themselves. This is shown in statistics. 80% of Americans can't afford legal fees. Not only that but many are treated unjustly and unequally because of their poor economic status. Many people being charged and prosecuted without financial means remain in jail before trial because they can't afford bail, resulting in a higher conviction rate. As a future lawyer, I intend to aid those who need a fair, equitable, and lawful defense. My aim is not just to make a difference in history, but to change people's lives for the better.
It could be local or international but I aim to offer legal representation to all individuals even if they are unable to access it. It is my firm belief that everyone deserves equal protection under the law regardless of their race, religion, upbringing, ethnicity, economic status, etc. That is what the American justice system, amendments, constitution, laws, bills everything to do with our rights, was created for and I plan to utilize this in every single one of my cases.
Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
I love reading books from the Romance, Dystopian, Fiction, and Fantasy genres. These are the main genres I usually find on my #BookTok-inspired bookshelf. The first book I read after being inspired by #BookTok was "Red Queen" by Victoria Aveyard from the Red Queen series. Even though this book is a perfect blend of all four genres, it's mainly Dystopian. After reading the first book, I became so engrossed that I ended up reading the entire series. To this day, it remains my all-time favorite series. While I enjoy reading Dystopian books, romance is just as captivating. Books like "It Ends With Us" and "It Starts With Us" by Colleen Hoover are must-haves on my bookshelf. When you read these types of books, it feels like a movie is playing in your mind. You get to visualize the scenes and pictures in your head using the author's words. For the fantasy genre, my must-have is "Children of Blood and Bones" by Tomi Adeyemi. I had never read a book with magic in it before and never considered doing so. However, after reading this book, I found myself wishing that magic was a real thing. The book portrayed the idea of magic so vividly that it felt like a realistic possibility. All these books fall under the genre of Fiction. Whenever someone wants to escape from reality, a fiction book provides a perfect opportunity to do so. The beauty of fiction can help to relieve all the stresses and problems of daily life. It feels like those dreams that we have can become a reality.
Romance is the most popular genre on BookTok right now. Romance books like "It Starts With Us" allow readers to immerse themselves in a love story and expand their imagination and creativity. Many people can relate to the characters and their experiences, which makes it all the more appealing. Similarly, Dystopian books like "Red Queen" are significant because they can reflect our society, government, and lives. We can see how the characters’ experiences mirror our own, which makes it easy to relate to them. Finally, fantasy books such as "Children of Blood and Bones" hold great significance because, at their core, they rely on imagination. Without imagination, the book would come across as a mere myth or a fable. However, every individual can imagine and that's precisely why this book holds immense significance. A fantasy book has the potential to bring one's dreams closer to reality.
Bold Art Matters Scholarship
I love art, and I can't live without it. I never realized I had the gift of drawing until I decided to practice. I had taken art for 2 years at school and had good experience. When covid happened, I mainly drew to waste time. I had the desire to start drawing portraits.
It started with baby steps, so I looked up a video on how to draw a realistic eye. I followed the steps, and even though it took a while, it was extremely good. It seemed as if I've been professional. I still have that drawing and I will never throw it out. From that day on, I became an actual professional at drawing eyes. This led to me becoming a top art student for portraits and facial features. I admire that drawing so much because it reminds me of how I started with one video and drawing, to so many good portraits.
Bold Helping Others Scholarship
I love helping people with emotional problems that they have. I can't tell them what to do, but I can give them advice about that specific situation. When I do this, I find that there are so many benefits to helping people with emotional problems.
I can get close with them. I get to find out the true personalities of people and how they are. It's easier for me to talk to them when I know more about them. We can learn new things about each other, and it's a good way to have fun. They would also open up to me and trust me, which is an awesome feeling. Interacting with people is a great way to explore many different things. They might be from another country or be of a different race. You can learn about their culture and traditions and learn many things in this area.
This is also a great way to change people. Since I wanted to make a difference, I chose to do something I was good at. People feel different and feel better when I give them advice which also makes me feel good. I never really knew how to make a difference and enjoy it at the same time. I asked myself this question many times. What change can I make? When people started to tell me that I changed them or helped them in that area, I realized that I found my answer.
