Susan Jeanne Grant Heart Award
What makes me unique is not just my career but the heart and determination behind it. My background has shaped me into someone who values responsibility, compassion, and hard work. Since I was 9 years old, I have often cared for children in my family, from babysitting to spending a whole weekend taking care of my cousins. Those experiences may seem small to others, but to me they were life-changing. I had finally found what I was most passionate about. Being someone others could depend on made me realize that I wanted a future where I could change people's lives, not just an occasional responsibility. It would be my life's work.
I come from a background where my parents never had the opportunity to finish high school, which makes me the first in my family to attend college. Because of this, pursuing higher education means more than just earning what some may call a piece of paper. It represents breaking generational barriers, creating new opportunities for my family and future children, and making my parents proud. I understand that for me to be successful will require focus, sacrifice, and determination, but I'm fully prepared to work hard for it. My dream is to begin my healthcare journey by earning my CNA certification, then continue my education to become an RN. I also aspire to train as a Sonography Technician. While some may view my goals as overwhelming or too much, I see them as important steps toward becoming a knowledgeable and well-suited healthcare professional who can make a meaningful difference in patients' lives.
Receiving this scholarship would not only ease the financial burden of tuition, books, and certification costs but also represent a belief in my potential, goals, and determination to succeed. As the first person in my family to attend college, I carry not only my own dreams but also the hopes of those who came before me. This opportunity would bring me one step closer to turning my passion and dream into a long-term career dedicated to service, compassion, and impact. I am determined to make that investment count by working to improve the lives of others and create a future that my family can be proud of.
VNutrition and Wellness Nursing Scholarship
As a future nurse, I believe improving people’s nutrition and overall health begins with education, compassion, and leading by example. Nutrition plays a critical role in preventing disease, promoting healing, and improving quality of life. Through my nursing career, I plan to not only treat them but also to help patients make healthier lifestyle choices that can prevent health problems before they begin.
One of the most important steps I will take is educating patients about the connection between nutrition and health. Many individuals struggle with conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease that are directly affected by diet. As a nurse, I will take time to explain how balanced meals, portion control, and nutrient-rich foods can improve their condition. Instead of simply giving instructions, I will make sure patients understand why certain foods benefit their bodies and how small dietary changes can lead to long-term improvements.
I also plan to encourage healthier eating habits by promoting realistic and achievable goals. Drastic changes can feel overwhelming, especially for patients who are already dealing with medical challenges. I will work with patients to set small, manageable steps, such as replacing sugary drinks with water, incorporating more fruits and vegetables into meals, or choosing whole grains instead of processed foods. By celebrating progress rather than perfection, I can help patients feel motivated rather than discouraged.
Another step I intend to take is collaborating with dietitians and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care. Nutrition is not one-size-fits-all, and patients may have cultural preferences, financial limitations, or medical restrictions that affect their choices. By understanding each patient’s background and working as part of a healthcare team, I can help create personalized nutrition plans that are both healthy and practical. In addition, I want to lead by example. As a nurse, patients often look to healthcare professionals for guidance and inspiration. By practicing healthy habits myself and demonstrating the importance of balanced nutrition, I can encourage others to make similar choices.
Ultimately, my nursing career will focus on prevention as much as treatment. By educating patients, setting realistic goals, collaborating with professionals, and modeling healthy behaviors, I hope to empower individuals to take control of their nutrition and overall health. Helping people make informed decisions about what they eat can reduce chronic illness, improve recovery times, and enhance their overall quality of life. Through compassion and education, I aim to make a lasting impact on the health of the communities I serve.
Craig Family Scholarship
WinnerMy goals are centered around one purpose: caring for others during hard times. What began as babysitting and caring for my cousins grew into a clear vision for my future in healthcare. Though those experiences i discovered that supporting others is not just something I enjoy, it is the career path I'm determined to pursue.
My first educational goal is to earn my CNA (certified nursing assistant) certification. I believe starting as a CNA will provide me with the essential hands-on experience and a strong foundation in patient care. CNAs work closely with patients, assisting them with daily needs and offering comfort and reassurance. This role will allow me to develop clinical skills while also strengthening my compassion, patience, and communication abilities. I want to fully understand patient care from the ground up before advancing further in my career.
After gaining experience as a CNA, my next goal is to continue my education to become a RN ( registered nurse ). As an RN I will take on greater responsibility in assessing patients, creating care plans, and advocating for those who may not always have a voice. I am especially drawn to nursing because it combines medical knowledge with direct human connection. Nursing is often the profession who spends more time with their patients often not for medical care but emotional support. I want to be someone who brings both skills and a little more to a hospital room.
In addition to becoming an RN I aspire to pursue training as a Sonography Technician. Sonography interest me because it plays critical role in diagnosing and monitoring medical conditions. Through ultrasound technology, healthcare providers can detect issues early and provide families with important answers. I am inspired by the idea of being part of that process using both techincal skills and compassion to help patients during uncertain times.
Professionally my long term goal is to build a career where I can continuously grow, learn, and serve others. I understand that this path will require dedication, hard work, and perseverance but I am fully committed. Each step from CNA to RN and potentially sonography represents progress towards becoming a well rounded healthcare professional. ultimatley my future is driven by a desire to make a impact. My professional goals reflect my passion for caring for others. I am determined to turn that passion into a lifelong career dedicated to service, compassion, and impact.
