Bio

I am a college student at Imperial Valley College, currently majoring in nursing, and I am seeking a grant to help cover the essential costs associated with my education. The funds would be used to pay for my classes, required course materials and supplies, and reliable transportation to and from campus. Receiving this grant would greatly reduce the financial burden on me and allow me to focus more fully on my studies and future career in healthcare. Since January 2025, I have been working in a cosmetic clinic while currently enrolled in a medical assistant program at 19 years old. This experience has been both rewarding and challenging, allowing me to grow in many ways as I prepare for a career in the medical field. What makes my journey even more unique is that I previously attended beauty school for esthetics, which provided me with a solid foundation in skincare and client care. Combining my background in esthetics with my current medical training has given me a deeper appreciation for both the clinical and aesthetic sides of patient care. Working in a cosmetic clinic has offered me the chance to gain valuable hands-on experience. I’ve been able to apply many of the skills I’m learning in school—such as taking vital signs, measuring height and weight, and practicing proper aseptic techniques—in a real-world environment. I’ve also had the opportunity to understand the importance of maintaining cleanliness, organization, and ethical behavior in a professional healthcare setting. These skills are vital not only for patient safety but also for building trust and professionalism in the workplace. The daily workflow in the clinic varies. On most days, the patient load is manageable, but there have been times when things get stressful due to a high number of appointments or being short-staffed. Those moments have tested my patience, problem-solving skills, and ability to work under pressure. However, through teamwork, communication, and determination, we always manage to get through the day while still offering each patient the best care and hospitality possible. I’ve learned that staying calm, being adaptable, and supporting one another as a team are key to overcoming challenging situations. My background in esthetics has also been incredibly helpful in this setting. Having already worked with clients on skincare and treatments, I understand the importance of appearance, confidence, and comfort in cosmetic care. This has helped me better relate to our patients and provide a welcoming, compassionate experience—especially for those who may feel nervous about their procedures. As well as applying my own personal experiences with the medical setting as a patient. Overall, my experience at the cosmetic clinic has been an essential step in my professional journey. It has helped me grow my clinical skills, reinforced the importance of ethics and patient-centered care, and allowed me to combine my passion for esthetics with my goal of becoming a well-rounded medical assistant. I look forward to continuing to learn and evolve in this field.
