My name is Amya Harris, and I am a 25-year-old college student pursuing a degree in nursing. I've been working consistently since the age of 17, balancing jobs, motherhood, and school with determination and resilience. As a mother to a beautiful daughter, I've learned the true meaning of strength, responsibility, and time management.
Over the years, I've developed strong interpersonal skills that help me connect easily with others, whether in a professional setting, the classroom, or daily life. I'm known for my sense of humor, adaptability, and ability to understand people from all walks of life. I believe these qualities, along with my hard work and intelligence, will make me not only a successful nurse but also a compassionate one.
Though the path to my degree has taken longer than expected, I've never lost sight of my goals. I am committed to building a better future for my daughter and myself, and I am proud of the progress I've made so far. With the support of this scholarship, I can continue pushing forward and turn my dreams into a reality.

There are moments in life that test your spirit in ways you never imagined. For me, one of those moments was when I lost almost everything in a single day. I was evicted from my home and had my car repossessed - all within hours. Not long after, I experienced the devastating loss of my son. These moments could have broken me. They could have made me give up. But instead, they became the reason I kept going.
I've been working since the age of 15, and now at 25, I'm a mother with a daughter who looks to me for strength, stability, and hope. That responsibility pushes me every single day. Life has knocked me down more times than I can count, but I've always gotten back up stronger, wiser, and more determined.
Going through such losses taught me more than any textbook ever could. I've learned how to adapt when everything changes in an instant. I have learned to work twice as hard for half as much. And most importantly, I've learned how to keep faith alive, even in the darkest seasons of my life. These experiences shaped me into someone who is not only hardworking and intelligent but also deeply understanding and able to connect with people in meaningful ways. I carry those strengths into every job, classroom, and conversation.
I have been working toward my nursing degree for time now. My journey hasn't been fast or easy, but it's been filled with growth. Nursing isn't just a career for me - it's my calling - my purpose. I want to help the people of my community feel seen, heard, and cared for, especially during their most vulnerable moments. I've been there myself. I know what it's like to feel like no one understands. That's why I want to be the kind of nurse who doesn't just treat symptoms but truly sees the whole person.
In the short term, I am focused on buying a home- a stable place where my daughter and I can grow and feel secure. Long term, my goal is to complete nursing school, pass the NCLEX, and begin building a career where I can uplift my family and community. I want to be proof that where you start doesn't define where you'll finish.
Receiving this scholarship would mean so much more than financial support. It would be a reminder that my efforts haven't gone unnoticed - that despite all the setbacks, someone believes in me. The funding would allow me to focus more on my studies and clinicals, without the overwhelming stress of covering school expenses. Most of all, it would help open the door to a future where I can give to others the same support I've wished for during my hardest times.
Thank you for considering my story and helping me continue to move forward, for myself, my daughter, and the many lives I hope to impact as a nurse.
