My name is Amy Uribe Rangel and my main goal in life is to become an Immigration Lawyer. What inspired me to pursue a career as an Immigration lawyer was my family. Before I was born, my mother crossed to the United States looking for new opportunities. Both of my parents resided in the United States for a minimum of two years, until my mother decided to go back to Mexico. She used to feel like she was in jail since she was undocumented, she did not like to be in any public places, and she used to live in fear, fear of being deported. Just like my mother, there are many families in the United States in the same situation as my mother was. When I was ten years old my mom passed away, leaving my dad with a baby who at the time was only one year old. As a big sister, it was difficult to support my dad while also studying, taking into consideration that I was ten years old. My little sister was born in Mexico, and unfortunately, she was not able to come with my dad and me to the United States. While my dad was looking for help or the documentation process to bring my little sister with us, my grandmother had to take responsibility for my little sister. At this time my dad and I moved to the United States looking for better opportunities, I had to move to a new country, with a new language, a new school, a new house and no friends. During the process, my little sister turned nine years old. During does years, my sister grew up without a sister in her life, and also without a father or a mother. We used to visit her during the summer, and it was difficult to return home without her. Because of my family experience and my mother who passed away, I decided to pursue a career as an Immigration Lawyer. I want to help other people with similar situations as mine, and I want to help people understand that there are opportunities and that they are never alone. Many people in the United States sacrificed their whole lives looking for better opportunities in the United States. Many people die crossing the borders, and if people receive the help that they need, many lives could be safe. For me, immigration lawyers are heroes, by giving legal help to those people in need, many lives could be saved. I want to be a hero too.
