One teacher who had a lasting impact on me was my 6th grade English teacher, Ms. Lavelle. At the time, I did not realize how much a single class could shape the way I think about learning, discipline, and myself. Looking back, her classroom became one of the first environments where I truly felt challenged to grow, not just academically, but personally. In the beginning, I struggled with confidence in English. Writing assignments felt overwhelming, and I often doubted whether my ideas were good enough. Ms. Lavelle noticed this early on and made a consistent effort to encourage me. Instead of simply marking my work with corrections, she took time to write thoughtful feedback that helped me understand how to improve. She would point out what I did well before explaining what I could work on, which made me feel like my effort mattered and that I was capable of growth. One of the most important lessons I learned from Ms. Lavelle was that improvement comes from persistence, not perfection. She often reminded the class that writing is a process and that no one produces their best work on the first try. Because of her teaching style, I began to approach assignments differently. Instead of being afraid of making mistakes, I started seeing them as part of learning. I spent more time revising my work, paying attention to detail, and thinking more deeply about what I wanted to say. Ms. Lavelle also encouraged creativity and self-expression. She gave us assignments that allowed us to write about personal experiences, opinions, and ideas. This helped me realize that writing was not just about completing school tasks, but about communicating thoughts and expressing identity. That shift in perspective made me more engaged in her class and more confident in my ability to write. Beyond academics, Ms. Lavelle influenced my mindset. She taught me to take responsibility for my own learning and to understand that effort directly leads to improvement. Even small progress was something to be proud of, and that idea has stayed with me throughout my education. It helped me become more disciplined, more reflective, and more willing to push through challenges instead of avoiding them. Overall, Ms. Lavelle played an important role in shaping how I approach both school and life. She helped me build confidence, taught me the value of persistence, and showed me that growth is a continuous process. The lessons I learned in her class continue to influence how I handle challenges today, both academically and personally, and I am grateful for the foundation she helped me build.

One movie that has had the greatest impact on my life is The Pursuit of Happyness, starring Will Smith. This film tells the true story of Chris Gardner, a man who struggles with homelessness while trying to build a better future for himself and his son. What makes this movie so powerful to me is not just the hardships he faces, but the determination and resilience he shows in overcoming them. Throughout the movie, Chris Gardner is constantly faced with setbacks. He struggles financially, loses his home, and has to take care of his young son while trying to succeed in a highly competitive internship. Despite all of this, he never gives up. One of the most impactful lessons I took from this film is the idea that circumstances do not define a person’s future. Even when everything seems to be going wrong, persistence and belief in yourself can lead to success. Watching him continue to push forward, even when he had every reason to quit, made me reflect on how I handle my own challenges. The relationship between Chris and his son is another reason why this movie stood out to me. Even during the most difficult times, he remains a caring and supportive father. He protects his son from the full reality of their situation and continues to encourage him. This showed me the importance of responsibility and staying strong for the people who depend on you. It also highlighted how success is not only about personal achievement, but also about being able to provide for and uplift others. This movie has influenced the way I think about my own goals and future. There are times when things feel overwhelming, especially when facing obstacles or uncertainty. However, The Pursuit of Happyness reminds me that success is not immediate and that failure or struggle is part of the process. It has motivated me to stay focused, work hard, and not give up even when progress feels slow. The message that “you got a dream, you gotta protect it” has stuck with me and continues to inspire me to take my ambitions seriously. Overall, The Pursuit of Happyness has had a lasting impact on my mindset and motivation. It taught me the value of perseverance, responsibility, and hope. More importantly, it showed me that no matter how difficult life may seem, it is still possible to create a better future through hard work and determination.

Living with a hearing disability has shaped many aspects of my life, from how I communicate with others to how I experience the world around me. While it can sometimes create challenges, it has also led me to discover a powerful outlet in art, especially painting and visual arts. Art has become more than just a hobby for me—it is a way to express myself, stay motivated, and remain engaged with the world in a way that feels natural and meaningful. Because I experience the world differently, I have learned to rely more heavily on visual details. This has strengthened my ability to notice things that others might overlook, such as subtle changes in color, light, and movement. Painting allows me to take those observations and turn them into something tangible. Through art, I can communicate emotions, ideas, and experiences that are sometimes difficult to express through words or sound. It gives me a sense of freedom, where my disability does not limit me but instead shapes a unique perspective that I can share with others. Art also plays an important role in helping me cope with frustration or isolation that can come with a hearing disability. There are moments when communication feels difficult or when I feel disconnected from conversations happening around me. During those times, painting becomes a space where I can refocus and regain a sense of control. It allows me to process my thoughts and emotions in a healthy and productive way. Instead of feeling discouraged, I am able to channel those feelings into creativity, which helps me move forward with a more positive mindset. In addition to being a form of expression, art keeps me motivated and engaged. It gives me goals to work toward, whether it’s improving my technique, experimenting with new styles, or completing a piece that I am proud of. Each finished artwork represents progress and reminds me of what I am capable of achieving. This sense of accomplishment carries over into other areas of my life, encouraging me to stay persistent even when faced with challenges. My hearing disability has not defined my limitations, but rather has helped shape my strengths. Through visual art, I have found a way to connect with myself and the world around me in a meaningful way. It continues to motivate me, provide balance, and remind me that there are always different ways to communicate, create, and succeed.

I am a motivated and independent student who is driven by curiosity, resilience, and a desire to create a better future for myself and others. Throughout my life, I have learned how to take responsibility for my goals and remain focused, even when facing challenges. Pursuing higher education without relying on financial support has pushed me to develop a strong sense of discipline and determination. These experiences have shaped me into someone who is proactive, hardworking, and committed to building a meaningful path forward. One of my greatest interests lies in science and innovation, particularly in areas like astrophysics and aerospace. Ever since I was young, I have been fascinated by space and the unknown. I understand how difficult it can be to navigate education without strong financial or personal support, and I want to be someone who can make that path easier for others. Additionally, I believe that representation and encouragement are powerful. By pursuing my goals and staying committed to my education, I hope to inspire others who may feel limited by their circumstances. I want to show that it is possible to overcome obstacles with persistence and effort. My journey has taught me that challenges do not define a person’s future; rather, it is how they respond to those challenges that truly matters. Ultimately, I plan to make a positive impact by combining my passion for learning with a commitment to helping others. I am determined to use my future career not only as a way to achieve personal success, but also as a platform to contribute to innovation, support my community, and create opportunities for those who come after me.

One of my biggest interests is astrophysics and learning more about space, a passion that has been with me since I was a child. I remember being fascinated by the night sky, looking up at the stars and wondering what existed beyond what I could see. Questions about black holes, galaxies, and the possibility of life beyond Earth captured my attention early on, and that curiosity has only grown stronger over time. What started as simple wonder has developed into a genuine interest in understanding how the universe works. As I’ve grown older, I’ve taken more initiative to learn about astrophysics on my own. Whether it’s watching documentaries, reading articles, or exploring new discoveries, I am constantly drawn to learning more about space. I find it especially interesting how astrophysics combines complex mathematics and physics to explain phenomena that seem almost impossible to comprehend. Concepts like gravity, light, and the expansion of the universe show how much there is still left to discover, which motivates me to keep learning. This interest has also shaped the way I think. Astrophysics requires curiosity, patience, and a willingness to explore difficult ideas, and those qualities have influenced how I approach challenges in school and in life. Instead of being discouraged by complex problems, I am more likely to stay persistent and try to understand them step by step. It has also encouraged me to think beyond my immediate surroundings and consider the bigger picture, both literally and figuratively. Looking toward the future, I hope to continue exploring this passion through my education. Whether or not I pursue astrophysics as a career, my interest in space will always be a part of who I am. It represents my curiosity about the unknown and my desire to keep learning. The universe is constantly expanding, and so is my interest in understanding it, which is why astrophysics continues to inspire me every day.

Fitness has become a major part of my life, and soccer is what sparked that passion. What began as a simple interest in playing a sport with friends gradually turned into something much deeper. Soccer gave me a reason to stay active, but more importantly, it gave me structure, discipline, and a way to take control of my health. Over time, I realized that fitness was not just about physical strength, but also about building mental resilience and improving my overall well-being. At one point, maintaining a healthy routine was difficult for me. Balancing school, responsibilities, and personal stress often made it easy to fall into inconsistent habits. There were days when I lacked motivation or felt overwhelmed, and my physical health was not a priority. However, committing to soccer forced me to make a change. Being part of a team meant showing up to practices, putting in effort during conditioning, and pushing myself even when I felt tired. Slowly, I began to build consistency, which was something I had struggled with before. Through regular training and games, I noticed significant improvements in my health. I became stronger, faster, and more energized. Simple things, like having the stamina to play an entire game or feeling more focused during the day, showed me how much progress I had made. Soccer also helped me develop better habits, such as staying active, managing my time, and taking care of my body. These changes didn’t happen overnight, but through persistence and effort, I was able to overcome the challenges that once held me back. In addition to physical benefits, soccer has had a strong impact on my mental health. It became an outlet where I could relieve stress and clear my mind. When I am on the field, I am fully focused on the game, which helps me step away from outside pressures. This has improved my ability to handle challenges in school and in life, allowing me to stay calm and focused even in stressful situations. Fitness has taught me that taking care of my body also supports my mental strength. Soccer has also taught me the value of teamwork and accountability. My teammates rely on me just as much as I rely on them, which has pushed me to stay committed and give my best effort. Whether we win or lose, I have learned to stay motivated and continue improving. This mindset has carried over into other areas of my life, especially my academic goals. Overall, fitness, through soccer, has bettered my life in countless ways. It has helped me overcome challenges, build discipline, and develop a stronger mindset. As I continue my education, I plan to keep fitness as a priority, knowing that it will continue to support my growth and success in the future.

Pursuing higher education without financial support from my family or FAFSA has been shaped by circumstances that are both personal and structural. My family is not in a position to contribute to my college education, whether due to financial limitations, competing responsibilities, or other barriers that make supporting my academic goals difficult. At the same time, the FAFSA system does not accurately reflect my situation, which leaves me without access to the financial aid that many students rely on. Because of this, I have had to take full responsibility for planning and funding my education on my own. This reality has forced me to grow up quickly and develop a strong sense of independence. While many students can rely on a support system for guidance or financial backing, I have had to become my own source of motivation and direction. I’ve spent time researching scholarships, understanding application processes, and thinking carefully about how to make college affordable. These efforts have required discipline, organization, and persistence, especially when balancing schoolwork with the stress of financial uncertainty. Although this path has been challenging, it has also shaped me in meaningful ways. I have learned how to advocate for myself, seek out opportunities, and stay focused even when the outcome is not guaranteed. Instead of discouraging me, my circumstances have strengthened my determination to succeed. I have developed resilience and a mindset that values hard work and long-term goals over short-term comfort. These qualities will continue to guide me not only through college, but also throughout my career. My background has also influenced my future goals. Experiencing financial barriers firsthand has made me more aware of the inequalities that exist in access to education. Because of this, I am motivated to pursue a career that offers both stability and the ability to create positive change. I want to be in a position where I can support myself, contribute to my community, and eventually help others who face similar challenges. Whether that means mentoring students, providing resources, or simply sharing my story, I hope to make higher education feel more attainable for others. Ultimately, navigating my educational journey without financial assistance has shaped my sense of responsibility in a profound way. It has taught me that success is not defined by the resources I start with, but by the effort and determination I put in. While the path may be more difficult, it has given me the strength, independence, and clarity to pursue my goals with purpose and confidence.
