Bio

Biology student, future wildlife biologist. My curiosity and fascination with all things living have lead me to pursue an AS General Science with a focus on biology- to be followed by BS Natural Resource Ecology and Management. Young me could be summed up in two words: artistic and sensitive. I would ogle at the grubs and worms under overturned stones; watch the body mechanics and behavior of animals for hours and hours in awe. Then, I would go home and paint about it. The deep empathy I felt for things that had no voice, the curiosity, and the fascination never left me. The amazing things I’ve seen working in research fuel my creative hobbies. The experience I’ve gained through research internships has helped me narrow down the broad range of job possibilities in my field of study. I am looking to further my experience and knowledge of animal behavior, animal rehabilitation, and research (involving animals, of course).

    Science Appreciation Scholarship
Science is everything. It is you. It is the air you breathe. It is the lights in your home, every feeling you feel, the pen you write with. A world without science is a world that simply would not exist. Science is the how to, the innovations, the curiosity, the discovery that has so delighted humanity. Relevant to my specific interests, science is the fuel for my passions. I am pursuing a career in wildlife biology because I am fascinated by living things. As a young child, you could not keep me away from bugs, animals, and plants. The way they moved, behaved, existed blew my little mind. I also had this deep empathy for nature. Seeing the smog funneled into the air from a refinery physically hurt my heart. I have never let those qualities leave me, not that I think that would be possible. Learning about the vast expanse of our Earth and the universe it resides in is a humbling experience. This, I believe, is one of the most fundamental reasons science benefits humanity. Science has the power to ground people from the monotony of human distractions. The worry and overthinking that makes people lose touch with reality can be put into perspective by learning about the cosmos. There is so much more to the world than one person's drama, vanity, and ego. A career in science is a sure fire way to know that your life's work will never be useless. Every bit of research done is used to progress our fundamental knowledge. Understanding the universe and ourselves is never an impractical feat. Even if your published work goes untouched for twenty years, it will still someday serve a purpose and be built upon. One discovery opens up many doors to more questions and answers. Science progresses humanity is countless ways. The study of science improves human's ability to think logically and critically. Studying and practicing the steps of the scientific method creates a habit of applying a set of principals to any argument, question, and action. Because of this, science makes us less susceptible to misinformation and manipulation. Understanding natural phenomena to its full integrity also helps people wade through the sea of biased rhetoric that clouds the judgement of so many. Because science is so valuable to society, there will never be a reason to abandon it. There will always be a need for thinkers, questioners, and critics to seek truth and knowledge.
    Learner Math Lover Scholarship
I love math because I love science. Everything that exists, has existed, or will exist all exist in numbers. Math is a universal language of logic, harmony, and order. It is the same in any region of the earth and pays no mind to bias. Whether or not you believe the outcome of an equation, it will still produce the same true result consistently. There is no room for argument within a mathematical equation. Math is an objective truth that, when used correctly, could solve all of the world's problems. Using math for real world solutions would give us true, proven answers. If humanity were to argue the numbers, not human error, just the true numbers, we would be arguing against truth. Our inability to step into and out of cognitive dissonance convincing us that a statistic is merely confirmation bias will always lead us down the same road. We will always be stuck in the self destructive loop that results from ignoring objective truths- detrimental truths. Overpopulation, climate change, loss of biodiversity, and pollution will never resolve themselves unless humans intervene with their own mess. And, the only way to know we are on the right track is to pay attention, reevaluate, and trust the numbers.
    Learner Statistics Scholarship
I am pursuing Biology because I have always had a fascination with living things. I want to make a difference by working in preservation and educating people about the importance of biodiversity.
