I’m a dedicated basketball player who thrives on pushing myself to improve, both on and off the court. Being a barber allows me to connect with people on a personal level, and it’s incredibly rewarding to know my work positively impacts their day. My goals are rooted in personal growth and inspiring others. I aim to excel as an athlete while expanding my barbering career, using both to motivate others to pursue their dreams and push past their limits. Whether it’s in the gym, on the court, or behind the barber chair, I’m committed to making a difference. My name is Amoni Taylor, also known as MouseBlendz, and my journey to entrepreneurship began at the age of 15 when I picked up my first set of clippers. Growing up, I always had a passion for art and creativity, and I quickly discovered that barbering was my form of expression. What started as a hobby, cutting hair for friends and family, soon evolved into a passion that would drive my entrepreneurial spirit and change my life. By the time I was 18, I had built a reputation as a celebrity barber, working with high-profile clients and becoming known for my unique and precise cutting techniques. As a basketball player as well, a lot of my clients came from the basketball community around me. However, my journey didn’t stop there. I realized that the skills I developed as a barber could be the foundation for something bigger, an opportunity to build a business, create opportunities for others, and inspire my community. My business idea is centered around building a brand that celebrates the artistry of barbering and the confidence it gives people. I don’t just want to offer haircuts, I want to provide an experience that makes every client feel important and empowered. My goal is to create a space where anyone, no matter their background, can come in and leave with more than just a fresh cut. I want them to leave with a renewed sense of self-confidence and pride. Over the years, I’ve learned that barbering is not just about looking good, it’s about feeling good. The idea to take my barbering skills to the next level and turn it into a business stemmed from my desire to help others and create something that lasts. Being a young barber, I often saw the challenges faced by aspiring barbers trying to make a name for themselves, especially those from underserved communities. I wanted to create a space that not only helps people feel better about their appearance but also empowers the next generation of barbers to pursue their dreams. By offering mentorship, training, and opportunities, I hope to give back and create a ripple effect of success. One of my biggest inspirations to pursue entrepreneurship comes from my own journey. As a young person starting out, I didn’t have all the resources or connections that many others had, but what I did have was dedication, passion, and a vision. I understood that building something successful wasn’t going to happen overnight, but with hard work and consistency, anything was possible. Watching other successful entrepreneurs who started with nothing but a dream motivated me to create my own path. Entrepreneurship gives me the freedom to be my own boss, make my own decisions, and ultimately create something meaningful. Looking ahead, my goals are clear. I want to grow my barbering business into a well-established brand, expand into multiple locations, and offer barbering education and mentorship programs. I hope to give aspiring barbers the tools they need to succeed, whether that’s through practical training or business advice. Additionally, I want to use my platform to inspire others to pursue their passions and show that no matter where you start, hard work and determination can take you to incredible places. Ultimately, I hope to achieve more than just business success. I want to create a positive impact on my community and inspire others to chase their dreams with the same passion that has fueled my journey. Entrepreneurship is not just about making money—it’s about building something that lasts and leaving a legacy.
    Theresa Lord Future Leader Scholarship
My name is Amoni Taylor, and I’ve always dreamed of becoming a professional basketball player. From the time I could walk, basketball has been a major part of my life. It taught me about teamwork, dedication, and perseverance. While pursuing this dream, I’ve also committed to my education, knowing that a strong academic foundation will support me, whether I succeed in basketball or choose another path later in life. One of my educational goals is to earn a degree in sports management, which will provide me with skills and knowledge to thrive both during and after my basketball career. I believe education is just as important as basketball, as it opens up future opportunities and prepares me for life beyond sports. Having a degree will help me manage the business side of sports or help me pursue other passions in the future, ensuring that I’m ready for whatever challenges come my way. The road to becoming a professional basketball player has not been easy. In high school, I faced many obstacles, including being overlooked by college recruiters. While I had the skills, I didn’t have the physical advantages that some of my peers had. This made me feel frustrated at times, and I started to doubt my abilities. But instead of giving up, I worked even harder. I woke up early to practice before school, spent extra hours working on my weaknesses after practice, and studied videos of professional players to improve my game. It wasn’t easy, but I learned that success comes from persistence, not from giving up. A major challenge came when I injured my knee during my senior year. It was devastating because it happened just before an important game that could have put me on the radar of college recruiters. I felt like my dream of playing professionally was slipping away. But this injury became a turning point. Instead of letting it stop me, I used the time to recover, focus on physical therapy, and improve my mental strength. This experience taught me the importance of patience and resilience. I realized that setbacks are a part of the journey, and it’s how you respond to them that matters. Throughout this journey, my family and coaches have been my biggest supporters. They encouraged me to stay focused on both my basketball goals and my education. Their belief in me motivated me to keep pushing forward, even when things were tough. Now, as I continue my journey, I’m more determined than ever. My educational goals and my passion for basketball go hand in hand. I understand that reaching my dream of becoming a professional basketball player will take hard work, but I also know that my education will play a key role in my success, both on and off the court. No matter what obstacles I face, I will continue to learn, grow, and stay committed to achieving both my basketball and educational goals.
    Rebecca Lynn Seto Memorial Scholarship
If I were to work with a child like Rebecca, who has a rare disorder, my approach would be patient, understanding, and flexible. Every child is unique, and with a rare disorder, it’s important to adapt to the child’s specific needs and abilities. My first priority would be to build a trusting relationship with Rebecca, so she feels comfortable and safe. I would take the time to get to know her strengths and challenges, while also working closely with her family and other professionals involved in her care. To teach a child with a rare disorder, I would use a combination of visual, hands-on, and interactive methods. Some children learn best through pictures or videos, while others may respond better to physical activities or tools that they can touch and manipulate. I would make sure to use a variety of teaching methods to keep Rebecca engaged and help her understand what we are working on. For example, if she enjoys playing with toys or certain activities, I would try to incorporate those into her learning. This would help her stay interested and motivated while also making learning fun and meaningful. In addition, I would make sure to break down tasks into smaller steps so they don’t feel overwhelming. Small goals lead to big progress, and celebrating each achievement would be an important part of building Rebecca’s confidence. I would use positive reinforcement to encourage her every step of the way, providing praise when she reaches milestones or shows effort, no matter how small. It's crucial to remember that progress may be slow, but every step forward is a victory. Family plays an incredibly important role in the education and progress of a child with a disability, especially in the case of a rare disorder. Parents and family members are the ones who know the child best, and their insight into what works for the child, what they enjoy, and their unique needs can guide my approach. I would work closely with Rebecca’s family to understand her routines, interests, and any specific challenges she faces at home. This partnership is essential for creating a consistent and supportive learning environment, both in the classroom and at home. Family also plays a key role in encouraging and supporting the child’s progress. A child’s motivation and success are often strongly influenced by the support they receive from their family. I would encourage Rebecca’s family to be involved in her learning, whether by reinforcing the skills and strategies I use in class or by celebrating her accomplishments at home. Regular communication with the family would help me adjust my methods to fit Rebecca’s needs and ensure that we are all working together towards the same goals. Overall, my goal would be to create a positive and inclusive environment where Rebecca feels valued and supported. By using individualized teaching strategies, working closely with her family, and celebrating each step of progress, I believe we could work together to help her reach her full potential.

Giving back to my community is something that has always been important to me. Two things that I am passionate about are basketball and barbering, and I have found ways to use both of these to make a positive impact on the people around me. When I was younger, I spent a lot of time at my local basketball courts. I loved playing with my friends and teammates, but I also noticed that many of the kids in my neighborhood didn’t have access to organized sports programs or coaching. To help, I began volunteering to coach younger kids in basketball. I would show up at the court every weekend, helping them learn the basics of the game and teaching them the importance of teamwork, hard work, and perseverance. The best part was seeing their confidence grow as they improved and learned new skills. I realized that by sharing my love for the game, I could inspire others to stay active, set goals, and work towards achieving them. In addition to basketball, I’m also passionate about barbering. I started cutting hair when I was a teenager, and over the years, I’ve developed my skills. Cutting hair isn’t just about making someone look good; it’s also about making them feel good. I’ve volunteered at local shelters, offering free haircuts to people who are going through tough times. It might seem like a small thing, but I’ve seen how something as simple as a fresh haircut can boost someone’s confidence and brighten their day. It also opens up a chance to talk with people, listen to their stories, and offer words of encouragement. I truly believe that when you give back, it’s not just about the action, it’s about making a person feel valued and heard. After I graduate from college, I plan to continue giving back by combining both of these passions. I want to create a program that uses basketball and barbering to help young people in my community. My idea is to set up workshops where kids can learn basketball skills while also having the opportunity to get free haircuts. I want to show them that it’s important to take care of both their bodies and their appearance. I also hope to offer mentorship to help guide them toward positive goals and decisions, both on and off the court. I want to be a role model who can inspire others to work hard, stay focused, and always help others along the way. I believe that basketball and barbering are both powerful ways to connect with people and make a real difference in their lives. By continuing to volunteer my time and skills, I hope to give back to the community that has given me so much. It’s my way of showing others that with dedication and a little help from the people around you, anything is possible.

One technology that really inspires me is the prosthetic limb. Prosthetic limbs are artificial body parts that help people who have lost arms or legs. They are amazing because they allow people to do everyday activities that many of us take for granted, like walking, running, or even playing sports. What I find most inspiring about prosthetic limbs is how they have changed over time. In the past, they were simple and didn’t work very well. They were just there to help people look more "normal." But today, prosthetic limbs are super advanced. Some even have special features like sensors that can make them move just like real arms and legs! Some prosthetics can help people climb stairs, walk on uneven ground, or even play basketball and run. That’s so cool! The best part is that these advancements are making life easier and better for people who need them. Instead of feeling limited by their injury or disability, people can now do many of the things they love, like playing with their kids or going to work. This technology shows how smart people are in finding ways to solve problems and help others. What really inspires me is that prosthetic limbs show us how technology can help make the world a better place. By creating these life-changing tools, scientists and doctors are giving people the chance to live full, happy lives. They are helping people not only move again but also feel more confident and independent. It’s amazing to think about how much technology can improve someone's life, and prosthetic limbs are a great example of that.

Basketball has always been a big part of my life. I love playing the game, whether it’s with my friends or on my school team. Basketball taught me many lessons about working together, being determined, and not giving up. But the real reason I want to become a physical therapist started when my brother got hurt while playing basketball. Watching him recover made me want to help others in the same way his physical therapist helped him. My brother is two years older than me, and he has always been passionate about basketball. One day, during a game, he hurt his knee. At first, we thought it was a small injury, but we found out he had torn his ACL. This news was very hard for him. He had big dreams of playing basketball in high school, but the injury stopped him from doing that. I saw how sad and frustrated he felt. It was hard to watch him struggle because I knew how important basketball was to him. When my brother started going to physical therapy, I saw how important it was. His physical therapist helped him get his knee strong again. But it wasn’t just the exercises that helped him; it was the encouragement. The therapist always told him to stay positive and kept reminding him that he would get better. She made him believe that he could play again. I saw how much this meant to my brother. The therapist didn’t just help with his knee; she helped him stay strong and confident in himself. I started to think about how great it would be to help people like my brother. I realized that physical therapy isn’t just about making people feel better physically; it’s about helping them feel better mentally too. I learned that physical therapists don’t just fix injuries, they help people get back to doing the things they love. I wanted to be the person who could help others feel better, just like my brother’s therapist did for him. As I watched my brother work hard at physical therapy, I became more interested in learning about how the body works. I started reading about muscles and joints and how they heal after an injury. I also spent time shadowing physical therapists to see what they do. I learned that no two people are the same, and physical therapists need to create a special plan for each person to help them get better. I found that really interesting. I also learned that being a physical therapist means being patient and understanding. It’s not just about teaching exercises; it’s about listening to people and encouraging them every step of the way. What inspired me the most was seeing how happy my brother was when he could finally play basketball again. It wasn’t just about playing the game, it was about getting his confidence back. He worked hard, and it paid off. That’s when I decided I wanted to become a physical therapist. I want to help people like my brother return to the things they love to do, whether it’s sports, work, or just being active again. Physical therapy is more than just a job to me. It’s a way to help people feel better and achieve their goals. I want to be the kind of person who helps others through tough times and makes them believe they can get better. I know that becoming a physical therapist will take hard work, but I am ready to do whatever it takes. I can’t wait to help others, just as my brother’s physical therapist helped him.
STLF Memorial Pay It Forward Scholarship
One of the most memorable volunteering experiences I’ve had was when I attended Stevenson University to interact with younger kids after a basketball game. It wasn’t just about being a college student, it was about using my position to make a difference in the lives of others. I had the opportunity to give kids autographs, take pictures with them, and offer words of encouragement. This experience showed me the true meaning of leadership through service and helped me understand how important it is to give back to the community in meaningful ways. It all started when Stevenson University hosted an event for local youth, giving them a chance to meet college athletes and role models and play during our halftime. As a student-athlete, I was invited to participate and share my experience with the kids. At first, I didn’t realize how much of an impact I could have on them. I thought my role would simply be to sign a few autographs and take a couple of pictures, but it ended up being so much more than that. When the kids saw me, their faces lit up with excitement, and I immediately felt the responsibility to be a positive influence. After the game, I spent time with the kids, signing autographs and taking pictures. What surprised me the most was how much they looked up to me, even though I was just a regular college student. I realized that by being there and sharing my experience, I could do more than just entertain them, I could inspire them. I took the time to talk to each child, listen to their dreams, and encourage them to keep working hard. Some kids wanted to be athletes, while others had dreams of becoming doctors, artists, or teachers. No matter what their goal was, I reminded them that with hard work, dedication, and belief in themselves, anything was possible. As I spoke to the kids, I could see how much my words meant to them. Many of them had never had the chance to meet someone who was attending college, and they were amazed that I could be just like them one day. For me, this was an important moment because I realized that leadership through service is not just about being a role model in the traditional sense, it's about showing others that they, too, can achieve their dreams, no matter their background or where they come from. Volunteering and being an athletic student at Stevenson University taught me that leadership is about more than just being in the spotlight. True leaders serve their communities by lifting others up and inspiring them to reach their full potential. Giving kids autographs and taking pictures with them was fun, but the real reward came when I saw their faces light up after I offered a few encouraging words. Leadership is about being present, making a positive impact, and showing others that they matter. Looking back, I’m grateful that I am a student athlete at Stevenson University, that can inspire other kids because I was once in their shoes. Not only did I get to share my love for college sports, but I also learned that leadership is about giving back, being supportive, and inspiring others to dream big. This experience reinforced my belief that leadership is about serving the community, helping others grow, and always encouraging them to believe in themselves. I know that I will carry these lessons with me and continue to give back in the future, both at school and in other areas of my life.
Future of S&C: Strength Coach Job Network Scholarship
The field of strength and conditioning is rapidly evolving, and I believe the next 5-10 years will bring significant advancements driven by technology, science, and a deeper understanding of human performance. One major area of growth will be the integration of technology into training. Wearable devices and advanced performance-tracking systems are becoming more accessible and precise, allowing coaches and athletes to monitor data like heart rate, movement patterns, recovery, and workload in real time. This data-driven approach will help create more personalized and efficient training programs tailored to the specific needs of each athlete. Another key area is the emphasis on injury prevention and recovery. As research in biomechanics and sports medicine progresses, there will be an increased focus on exercises and techniques that minimize the risk of injury while optimizing long-term athletic health. Strength and conditioning professionals will likely collaborate more closely with physical therapists, nutritionists, and sports psychologists to create holistic performance plans that address all aspects of an athlete's well-being. The field is also moving toward a greater understanding of mental performance and its connection to physical conditioning. As mental health becomes a central focus in sports, strength and conditioning programs will likely incorporate strategies that enhance mental resilience, focus, and confidence. This shift recognizes that peak performance is as much about mental strength as it is about physical capability. As a passionate athlete and aspiring professional in this field, I plan to contribute to this evolution in several ways. First, I will stay informed about emerging technologies and research, continuously educating myself to ensure that I am using the most effective methods and tools available. I aim to integrate performance data into training programs, using it to analyze and improve results while keeping athletes safe and injury-free. Second, I plan to emphasize a holistic approach to training, combining strength and conditioning with recovery techniques, proper nutrition, and mental performance strategies. By taking this comprehensive approach, I can help athletes perform at their best while supporting their overall health and longevity in their sport. Lastly, I hope to inspire others by promoting the value of strength and conditioning as a foundation for both athletic success and personal development. Whether it’s through working with younger athletes, sharing knowledge, or contributing to the development of new training methods, I want to play a part in advancing the field. I believe that by focusing on innovation, collaboration, and holistic athlete development, I can help push the field of strength and conditioning to new heights.

My faith has played an integral role in shaping who I am today and has been a constant source of strength and guidance throughout my life. Believing in God has taught me to trust in a higher purpose, even during the challenging moments when things don’t go as planned. Through my faith, I’ve learned the importance of patience, perseverance, and maintaining a positive attitude, knowing that everything happens for a reason and that there’s a greater plan for me. My relationship with God has given me the confidence to pursue my dreams, knowing that I am not alone in the journey and that my hard work is supported by a divine plan. In basketball, faith has been especially important when facing setbacks and failures. In those moments, I rely on my belief that I am capable of overcoming any obstacle. Whether I’m dealing with a loss, a tough practice, or feeling like I’ve hit a plateau in my training, my faith reminds me that challenges are temporary and that growth often comes from discomfort. I also draw strength from prayer and meditation, which help me stay calm, focused, and centered in the midst of competition or pressure. When I feel discouraged, I turn to my faith to remind me of my purpose and to give me the courage to keep moving forward. In my career as a barber, my faith plays a crucial role in how I treat others and how I approach my work. As I build relationships with clients, I strive to treat them with kindness, respect, and empathy, values that my faith has taught me. I believe that God has placed me in this position to serve others, not just by giving them a fresh haircut, but by making them feel valued and heard. My faith helps me view my work as a ministry, where I can touch people’s lives in meaningful ways. Whether it’s offering a word of encouragement, listening to someone’s story, or simply creating an environment where they feel at peace, I want my work to reflect the love and compassion that my faith encourages. Looking ahead, I believe that my faith will continue to guide me in both my basketball career and barbering business. It will help me stay grounded, reminding me of the importance of humility and service. I know that success in both areas is not just about personal achievement but about making a positive impact on others. Whether I’m playing basketball, cutting hair, or building my brand, I want my faith to be the foundation that drives me to be a better person, a better teammate, and a better professional. I trust that with God’s guidance, I will be equipped to handle challenges, remain true to my values, and be a source of inspiration to those around me.

My athletic journey as a basketball player has had a profound impact on who I am today. It has shaped my mindset, character, and approach to life in ways that extend far beyond the court. Basketball is not just a sport to me; it’s a lifestyle that has taught me the importance of dedication, hard work, discipline, and perseverance. From the moment I first picked up a basketball, I knew this game would teach me valuable lessons that I could carry with me in every aspect of my life. The countless hours of practice, early morning workouts, and long evenings spent refining my skills have instilled in me the discipline necessary to succeed in any field. Whether it’s shooting drills, weight training, or studying the game, I’ve learned that consistent effort and a strong work ethic are the keys to improvement. The grind of training has shown me that success is not handed to you—it’s earned through sweat, determination, and a willingness to push yourself when you feel like giving up. Basketball has taught me that the path to excellence is never easy, but with focus and persistence, you can overcome any obstacle. Beyond physical skills, basketball has taught me mental toughness. The game requires not only physical endurance but also the ability to stay focused, think critically under pressure, and stay calm when things get tough. I’ve faced moments on the court where things weren’t going my way—missed shots, turnovers, and losses—and it’s during these times that I’ve learned the most about resilience. I’ve learned that how you respond to setbacks matters more than the setback itself. This mindset has helped me develop a strong sense of self-confidence and the ability to bounce back from failures, whether on the court or in life. It has shaped how I approach challenges in other areas, knowing that each failure is an opportunity for growth. As much as basketball has shaped me individually, it’s also taught me the importance of teamwork. Success in basketball isn’t just about individual performance—it’s about how well you work together with your teammates. The game has shown me the value of communication, trust, and collaboration. I’ve learned that each player has a role to play, and when we work together, we can achieve something greater than the sum of our parts. This teamwork extends beyond sports and into my personal and professional life, where I understand the importance of building strong relationships and supporting others in their own journeys. Throughout my athletic journey, I’ve also had the opportunity to inspire others, especially younger athletes who look up to me. I’ve realized that my actions, on and off the court, have the power to motivate and impact those around me. Whether it’s through the way I carry myself during practices, the encouragement I offer to teammates, or the example I set in overcoming challenges, I strive to be a positive influence. I want others to see that through hard work and persistence, they too can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. Basketball has given me a platform to inspire others to pursue their passions, stay focused on their goals, and always believe in themselves, no matter the challenges they face. In conclusion, my athletic journey has shaped me into the person I am today by teaching me the importance of hard work, resilience, and teamwork. Through my experiences as a basketball player, I’ve learned that the journey is just as important as the destination, and I hope to share that message with those around me.
Joe Gilroy "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan" Scholarship
My primary goals are to excel as a professional basketball player and expand my career as a professional barber. Both pursuits align with my passion for personal growth, building meaningful connections, and creating a positive impact on others. Achieving these goals requires a detailed plan, effective use of resources, and a commitment to continuous improvement. As a basketball player, I am determined to compete at a high level and elevate my skills to stand out in local and regional competitions. To achieve this, I plan to dedicate 4-6 hours daily to practice and conditioning, focusing on refining my shooting, improving agility, and building endurance. Strength training in the gym will play a critical role in enhancing my performance and preventing injuries. Participating in local and regional basketball leagues will provide valuable competitive experience and exposure. Additionally, I intend to seek mentorship from experienced coaches and players who can help me develop advanced strategies and refine my game. Essential resources for this journey include consistent access to a gym and basketball courts ($50-$100/month), professional-grade basketball gear and training equipment ($1,000 annually), and mentorship or coaching fees ($500-$1,000 annually). Over the next 1-3 years, my goal is to establish myself as a recognized player regionally, continually improving my skills and building a network within the basketball community. In my barbering career, my vision is to grow both as a professional and as a business owner. Over the past four years, I have built a reputation as a skilled and dedicated barber, but I am eager to take my craft to the next level. This involves enrolling in advanced barbering courses to master new techniques, leveraging social media to expand my clientele, and collaborating with local influencers and athletes to enhance my visibility. In the long term, I aim to transition from a home-based setup to owning a professional barbershop. This requires significant investment in upgraded equipment, marketing tools, and securing a professional space, with estimated costs ranging from $5,000 to $10,000. In the next year, I plan to focus on client acquisition, while my 3-5 year strategy involves establishing a barbershop that reflects my passion for quality service and community engagement. Achieving success in both basketball and barbering demands effective financial planning, disciplined time management, and unwavering focus. I am committed to balancing my training schedule with my barbering responsibilities to ensure steady progress in both areas. Networking with mentors, community members, and industry professionals will be key to creating new opportunities and fostering growth. Additionally, maintaining my physical and mental well-being through proper nutrition, recovery, and self-care will ensure that I can perform at my best in every aspect of my life. With determination, strategic planning, and a clear vision, I am confident in my ability to reach my goals and inspire others to pursue their passions with the same dedication.
