Mark Green Memorial Scholarship
I am a very ambitious and driven individual. Throughout my high school career, I have taken a total of five honors classes, five AP courses, been involved in two sports, and participated in a total of nine clubs. I take my commitments seriously and give my best effort in all my endeavors. I've grown to be better with my time management and staying focused. I have also grown as a leader and a more outspoken individual as I became increasingly involved in school. I strive to make everyone I work with feel comfortable within the space we’re in, whether it's through the volunteer work I do or everyday interaction. My leadership is complemented by my sense of empathy and understanding, which allows me to more easily connect with new people.
Receiving scholarship funding would greatly ease the financial burden I experience when contemplating the cost of my education. Growing up in a low-income, single-parent household has made it challenging to save money, especially as I often assist my mother when she needs financial support. I have witnessed her face significant job insecurities, enduring periods of unemployment that make it difficult for her to keep up with certain responsibilities. Such hardship has given me the motivation to pursue my biggest aspirations despite the struggles that may follow.
I am determined to break the generational cycle that has persisted in my family, which is why I have seized every opportunity to advance my knowledge of animal health so I am a more competitive candidate for school in the future. I coordinated with my counselor to take the only online animal science course provided through our Wisconsin Virtual School program, and have since gotten the chance to educate others about proper pet care from both the class information and my hands-on experience at animal shelters and my current job working in a veterinary clinic. To further prepare myself for a future in this field, I chose to take AP Environmental Science, which allowed me to explore animal functions and their environments in greater depth, further fueling my passion for a career in animal medicine. Now, in my senior year, I am enrolled in AP Biology, where I have gained essential foundational knowledge that will support my future studies of various animals.
I am committed to making a positive impact on the lives of animals and the community. In the future, I want to go to graduate school and acquire a PhD that will lead me to become a doctor in veterinary medicine who specializes in companion animals, so I can continuously learn how to better care for and support the animals we choose to be a part of our families. Once I obtain a job within the field, I want to gain experience in business and entrepreneurship so I can later establish my practice and work for myself, running a business that provides services such as veterinary care and animal boarding. Through my practice, I hope to provide affordable and quality care for pets and their owners. I will continue to educate others on animal care and what the best practices are, and becoming an animal doctor would prove that my dreams are worth pursuing.
Empower Her Scholarship
To me, empowerment is the ability to uplift those around you, fostering an environment where individuals can grow into their most confident and resilient selves. The empowerment I have received from others has shaped me into the person I am today. In my town, I am an active member of the MOWA Teen Council, which stands for the Museum of Wisconsin Art Teen Council. Our mission is to curate engaging events tailored for high school students and to increase their involvement in the local community.
I mention this group because I have served on the council for three terms, during which I have had the privilege of meeting a diverse range of individuals, particularly those who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. At the museum, I strive to create an atmosphere where every teenager, regardless of their identity, feels welcomed and valued. It has become second nature for me to approach attendees, introducing myself and asking for their names and preferred pronouns. This small but significant gesture promotes a sense of inclusivity and respect.
Additionally, I make it a priority to attend events that advocate for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, such as pride parades, panel discussions, and alliance meetings. In my community, which is relatively conservative, many individuals who identify as different genders or sexual orientations often face challenges in feeling safe when expressing their true selves. Despite this cultural barrier, I use my voice to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. This dedication to empowerment is essential in combating the stigma surrounding the LGBTQ+ community, as well as providing them with a safe and supportive space to thrive.
Beyond my work with the council, I have also embraced multiple leadership roles within my school, seeking to positively impact our school culture and community. One notable group I am involved with is called Crew, composed of upperclassmen leaders committed to ensuring that the transition to high school for freshmen is as seamless as possible. We provide guided tours of the school, organize club fairs, and host an event known as Frosh Fest. During Frosh Fest, all incoming ninth graders participate in engaging activities such as yard games, crafts, and icebreaker games, which help them bond with their peers and familiarize themselves with the school.
Overall, the lessons I have learned about empowerment have instilled in me the belief that true strength lies in numbers. Together, we can choose to show up for one another, amplifying our voices and working collaboratively to achieve our goals and cultivate a compassionate community.
First-Gen Futures Scholarship
From a young age, I have aspired to become a veterinarian, as I have always been surrounded by animals. Caring for and nurturing them always brought me immense joy. This passion is not just a fleeting interest; it is the fundamental motivation that propels me to continually learn and grow in the field I have chosen to be my career.
Receiving scholarship funding would greatly ease the financial burden I experience when contemplating the cost of my education. Growing up in a low-income, single-parent household has made it challenging to save money, especially as I often assist my mother when she needs financial support. I have witnessed her face significant job insecurities, enduring periods of unemployment that make it difficult for her to keep up with bills and provide food for our family. While she does receive some assistance from the state, supporting a family of four remains a formidable challenge.
Out of my two siblings, I have taken on the role of helping her the most, as our struggles are interconnected. For instance, we only have one car, and any unforeseen repairs must be addressed promptly; without the car, none of us would be able to get to work or school. These challenges have motivated me to actively seek out and apply for scholarships, to become a first-generation college graduate, and ensure that financial stress does not hinder my ambitions. My mother is one of my greatest motivators in wanting a better future for myself and my family.
I am determined to break the generational cycle that has persisted in my family, which is why I have seized every opportunity to advance my knowledge of animal health so I am a more competitive candidate for school in the future. Concrete Rose Scholarship Award
Since I was young, I have dreamed of becoming a veterinarian because animals constantly surrounded me, and nothing made me happier than caring for and loving them. Hence, this passion is not a fleeting interest; it is the driving force that motivates me to continually learn and grow in the field I have chosen to pursue as my career. Receiving scholarship funding would significantly alleviate my financial strain when considering how to afford my education.
Coming from a low-income, single-parent household has made it challenging to save money, especially as I assist in providing financial support to my mother when she needs it. I've watched my mother have significant job insecurities, where there have been periods when she could not find work and struggled to keep the bills paid and food on the table. Though she receives some assistance from the state, providing for a family of four is still difficult. I've had trouble saving money because I, out of my other two siblings, am the one who looks to help her the most, because where she struggles, we all struggle. For example, we only have one car, and if any sudden repair is needed, it has to be taken care of because without the car, none of us would be able to make it to work or have a way to get to school. I've also watched my mother suffer from being hospitalized throughout my sophomore year, and though my siblings and I gave each other strength, it was a hard time. The experience left me with the passion of obtaining a degree of such a high level to make my mother and entire family proud and to also prove to myself that there are no limits to what I can do, no matter the obstacles that will try to get in my way.
These hardships have led me to do all I can to seek out and apply for scholarships as a chance to not only be a first-generation college graduate, but also not let financial stress hold me back from achieving my goal. A scholarship of this size would greatly help me afford my college education, as I need to pay a total of around $10,000 each year. As I've continued my high school journey, I've continuously striven to challenge myself by taking a total of ten Honors and AP courses and being active within my school community. The last four years have taught me to grow as a leader, and I intend to do the same with my college experience. I will be the change within my family who breaks the cycle of members not finishing college or acquiring an undergraduate degree.

As I've continued my high school journey, I've continuously striven to challenge myself by taking a total of ten Honors and AP courses and being active within my school community. I have achieved significant academic success, particularly in the sciences, spanning from social and political science to life and environmental sciences. During my freshman year, I challenged myself by enrolling in honors biology, which solidified my enthusiasm for the scientific field. By my sophomore year, I had adapted to the demands of high school coursework and sought to further challenge myself with honors chemistry and AP government and politics, which I found to be even more enjoyable than I had anticipated. Honors chemistry provided hands-on experiences that enhanced my understanding of complex topics and deepened my drive to succeed in my science courses. While my government class gave me a new perspective on how to view rules and regulations, as well as sparking an interest in me to advocate for new and former animal laws that have been made. In my junior year, I chose to take AP Environmental Science, allowing me to delve deeper into animal functions and their environments, further igniting my passion for pursuing a career in animal medicine. Finally, in my senior year, I am taking AP Biology, where I have gained essential foundational knowledge that will support my future endeavors when studying various animals.
