Imagine having the knowledge needed to diagnose a cat with Feline Leukemia, curing a lethargic lamb, or taking quick action to recessitate a dog that has just been hit by a car. Veterinary Science offers a path to grow curiosity, help animals in need, and gain diverse work experiences. In order to sustain the life expectancy of animals and creatures on earth, animal care and welfare have to be top priorities. For instance, knowing how to properly raise domesticated animals such as establishing healthy eating habits, proper hygiene and suitable housing are all crucial factors of animal husbandry. To add, when discussing wild animals precautions such as refraining from over hunting and deforestation greatly supports the goal of wildlife conservation. Apart from that, when taking animal science and agricultural based courses in high school the desire to know more never dwindled but instead increased tremendously. As a livestock production, small animal management, and vet-med student, the opportunities to learn more about genetics, nutrition, reproduction, animal husbandry, the evolution of the domestication of animals and more were constantly presented. I value learning about and understanding multiple types of animal science based topics because it equips me with indepth information that I will always have and be able to use with future inquiries. This in turn enhances my problem solving skills and knowledge. Being able to provide aid to creatures unable to help themselves is very nobel. It's heartbreaking to know that animals suffer in silence, are mistreated, and are sometimes even neglected. These creatures cannot speak for themselves and at times need assistance. If the desire to help has already been established, the next step is to go out and help. With the passion and drive I possess, I wish to care and advocate for the vulnerable animals that without fail are always present in our society. Lastly, the veterinary field requires you to work in many different types of environments with both bizarre and or simple cases, depending on the day. In either circumstance, no day is the same which makes the field so intriguing. When dealing with animals there are multiple species out there capable of contracting and transmitting a plethora of diseases. As a vet it's your responsibility to identify possible causes and create a plan of action to counteract said causes. Being a doctor in the animal science field will give me the fast paced work environment I desire and will always keep me on my toes; as well as cause me to constantly exercise my brain to problem solve. In closing, my reasons for choosing a career in the veterinary field are to foster my growing curiosity in animal science, to be a skilled caretaker for animals who require assistance especially in critical conditions at all times, and to be afforded the chance to work in challenging yet exciting conditions.

Veterinary Science offers a path to grow curiosity, help animals in need, and gain diverse work experiences. As a high school student I was involved in both Student Council and served as an FFA (Future Farmers Of America) officer where I volunteered at nursing homes by creating and delivering holiday care packages to the residents as well as playing Bingo with them (Bethesda Gardens Assistant Living), food banks (Tarrant County Mobile Food Bank), participated in highway trash pick ups, interned at a local vet clinic (South Meadow Animal Clinic) and even led tours at the Fort Worth Stock Show.
