My name is Amilcar Fernandez. I am applying for this scholarship because I am getting my life back in order. I’ve never attempted to ask for help and this is my first time going back to school after so many years. I’ve battled with drug addiction in the past and I’ve single handedly managed to continuously auto self destruct any chances of being a pillar of support to my family. I am changing that. I want to be a person that I am proud of. I want to be a pillar of support to my children and the rest of my family. I want to be able to look in the mirror and in my head be able to smile and tell myself I am doing a great job. I’ve spent too many years only working with no type of degree. If I can be an example to myself and my family. I will be able to leave a legacy behind to my loved ones and be an example to people that are starting over. I can change and I am changing today. By the simple fact that I am here writing this today is proof that I am willing to put in the extra work that I have not in the past. It is an example that I am tapping in to the resources that in the past I would not have taken the time to even look for. By you lending a helping a hand I will be able to some day in the future be able to give back. Also to show others that there is help out there if one is willing to search for. I have a four year plan. This following semester I will start a Barber Program at Los Angeles Trade Tech. This program is about two years. I will stay committed until I achieve what I set forth. After that I will continue to a Drug Substance abuse program. I have a family to sustain as well. However I am willing to put in the long hour days with consistency and determination so I can provide a brighter, safer future for my family. I would like to thank you for reading this. I know I have limited space for this essay. I am an immigrant looking to achieve the American Dream. By far many have given up on. Even though I have had a lot of times that I have fallen off .
