Hi, My name is Amelia Phares, my family calls me Milly. I am a senior at Morgantown highschool in the nothern part of West Virginia. I have lived here all eighteen years of my life. I have had a goal of two hundred community service hours completed during my timein highschool. I am almost there, with one semester left in my senior year. I have volunteered many places ranging from big organization like pantry plus, to local shelters. During these experiences I have helped animals, young kids, familes, adults, elders, in all types of ways. I always felt as though I wasn't doing enough. I was helping people indirectly through giving in small ways. I felt I was making a difference but I have the strength and will to do so much more for people. I needed to pursue a career path that could help people in need, directly. Ever since age 12, I have had a career path set in mind. My mum was a nurse and I watched her work night shift every night, saving the lives of many, at the risk of her own. She would tell stories of how she touched the lives of others. I wanted the same for my future job. My mum passed away the summer of 2023, I was 17. After a month in the ICU, she was in the hands of the best nurses she could have, unfortunately the damage was too great. Her passing only motivated me more to be in that position one day, helping others when they can no longer care for themselves. I have worked incredibly hard to obtain direct admission to the Nursing school of WVU. I hope to get some assistance as I am struggling to come up with the money to pay tuition. I work 2 jobs, Jersey Mikes and Red Lobster. Most of this money goes towards my car insurance and payment. I save the rest, but it isn’t enough to get me through college. I think I deserve assistance as I am determined to get my nursing degree and receive higher education after college as well. I hope to give back to my community and people in need, just like my mum used to. I hope to help, hands on, through a career of nursing, to care and do my part to help people when they can no longer help themselves or their community.
