Bio

My name is Amber Fralix, and I should be just another statistic, but today I am a cycle breaker. I survived childhood abuse, experiencing instability from my mother losing custody of my siblings and I, to being raised by my great aunt and uncle. Growing up in a migrant town, where white children were the minority, shaped my perspective on identity and resilience. At 17, I became a teen mom, and by 23, I married my first husband, a 15-year Army paratrooper and Veteran. At 27, I lost him in a tragic accident. By age 30, I was wrongfully involved in the child welfare system. Despite lifelong mental health struggles, I’ve avoided suicide and substance misuse, staying strong in my faith and for my children. My goals now center on creating a better future for my children and advocating for families facing systemic injustice. As a devoted mother, I aim to serve as a role model for my children, showing them love and dedication to their well-being. Professionally, I plan to pursue public service to reform systems that fail vulnerable families and advocate for fairness and equity. My passion is fighting for justice, and my experiences in the child welfare system drive me to expose wrongdoing and advocate for change. I am committed to completing my degree and using it to make an impact. My ultimate goal is to ensure families have the resources and opportunities to thrive. Scholarships would not only offer financial relief but validate my journey and empower me to focus on my goals. With your support, I am ready to turn my passion into lasting change.

    Redefining Victory Scholarship
Defining Success: A Journey of Resilience, Purpose, and Transformation Success can be a deeply personal concept, shaped by our experiences, values, and goals. For some, it is the pursuit of academic excellence, for others, it is the realization of personal passions or the impact they have on their community. For me, success is not simply about achieving a set list of accomplishments, but about growing, overcoming adversity, and using my experiences to create positive change in the world around me. It is about resilience, dedication, and the commitment to continuously bettering oneself, even in the face of hardship. My journey has been far from traditional, yet it has been defined by a clear drive to make a difference and a relentless pursuit of knowledge. Growing up in a difficult environment, marked by childhood abuse and personal losses, including the death of my husband and the wrongful removal of my children from my care, success has meant surviving and thriving despite overwhelming odds. It’s been a journey of self-discovery, finding my voice and passion in the face of trauma. Through these struggles, I realized that the traditional paths to success—academic or otherwise—were not always available to me. But I’ve learned that resilience is key, and success is not confined to one definition or a single route. Success, to me, means having the courage to keep going when the world seems stacked against you, to learn from each setback, and to channel your experiences into making a difference for others. It’s about using your story, your strengths, and your determination to create change, whether that’s on a personal level or for the greater good. One of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned along the way is the importance of self-education and the value of perseverance. In the midst of personal turmoil, I found solace and strength in learning. I returned to school to pursue my degree, despite the overwhelming challenges of being a single parent, navigating the legal system, and dealing with personal trauma. My experiences fueled my determination to continue my education, not just for my own success, but to better advocate for others facing similar struggles. Whether it’s working on legal reform, advocating for families within the child welfare system, or simply fighting for justice, my education has empowered me to become a voice for those who have been silenced. This scholarship is a vital stepping stone on my path to success. With the financial support, I will be able to complete my degree without the added burden of financial stress. This will allow me to focus on my studies and gain the skills necessary to create meaningful change. I want to pursue a career in law and social reform, with the goal of working on behalf of families and children who have experienced injustice, much like I did. This scholarship will help me gain the knowledge and resources necessary to do that. The opportunity to further my education and pursue my goals is a crucial piece in fulfilling my vision of success, not just for me, but for the families I hope to help. In addition to my personal goals, I also envision paying forward the support I receive. Success is not just about what we achieve for ourselves, but how we use our success to help others. I plan to use my education and experiences to mentor others who are facing challenges, particularly young people who feel that their dreams are out of reach. I will encourage them to pursue their passions, regardless of the obstacles, and show them that their voices and stories matter. By mentoring others and sharing my journey, I hope to inspire them to find their own path to success, just as I have found mine. Success, for me, is about embracing the journey—no matter how difficult or unconventional—and using the lessons learned along the way to fuel the next step. It’s about resilience, dedication, and the commitment to bettering oneself. This scholarship will be an invaluable resource to help me achieve the next step in my journey, enabling me to complete my education and use that knowledge to give back to my community and fight for those who have been overlooked. In the end, success is not just about individual achievement, but about using that success to create a better world for others.
    Second Chance Scholarship
I have always believed in the power of change, and my life has been shaped by the desire to make a positive difference in the world. The challenges I’ve faced—from childhood abuse to the devastating loss of my husband, and the wrongful removal of my children—have only deepened my commitment to advocating for justice and reform. I want to make a change not only in my own life but also in the lives of others who face systemic barriers and injustice, particularly in the child welfare system. My journey toward making a change began with my personal struggles, but it was my desire to ensure that no one else should endure what I went through that fueled my determination. Losing my children to an unjust system opened my eyes to the flaws in the child welfare system, and I felt compelled to fight for those who don’t have the power or voice to advocate for themselves. I’ve taken action by speaking out against the systemic injustices that separate families and advocating for reform, despite the emotional toll it has taken on me. My personal experiences have given me the strength to press on, knowing that the fight for justice is worth it. I am currently enrolled in college, with plans to pursue a career in law and social reform. I’ve actively sought out opportunities to learn and grow in the field of justice and reform, by working with organizations that share my mission. However, the financial burden of higher education has been a constant challenge, and this scholarship would provide the critical support I need to focus on my studies and achieve my career goals. By easing the financial strain, this scholarship would allow me to devote more time and energy to my education, ultimately enabling me to become a more effective advocate for those in need. This scholarship will also help me continue my work in addressing issues of justice and family rights. With the financial support, I will be able to complete my degree without the stress of financial insecurity. This will provide me with the resources and skills I need to fight for families like mine, ensuring they are not torn apart by an imperfect system. I plan to use the knowledge I gain to advocate for policy changes and help others navigate the complexities of the legal system. Whether through direct legal aid, writing advocacy materials, or speaking out in public forums, I will dedicate myself to giving families a voice. The final part of my mission is to pay it forward. I understand the importance of supporting others, as I have been the recipient of kindness and guidance in my own life. I plan to mentor young people who face similar struggles, offering them the guidance and support they need to pursue their own dreams. Additionally, I will work to create opportunities for others to access education, ensuring that the barriers I’ve faced don’t prevent others from reaching their full potential. I hope to inspire those who feel voiceless, reminding them that their dreams are valid and worth fighting for. In conclusion, the steps I’ve taken thus far—advocating for change, pursuing my education, and dedicating myself to helping others—are all part of my larger goal to make the world a better place. This scholarship will play a vital role in helping me achieve that goal, and in turn, I will use my knowledge and experiences to support others in their own journeys of change. Through persistence, compassion, and a commitment to justice, I will continue to pay it forward and make a meaningful impact.

Overcoming Challenges, Giving Back, and Inspiring the Next Generation Life has a way of testing us, and my journey has been no exception. As a child, I endured abuse that shaped my view of the world and fueled my desire to protect those who are vulnerable. Growing up in an environment where safety and love were not guaranteed, I developed a fierce resilience and a deep sense of empathy for others facing adversity. These early experiences taught me that the world can be harsh, but it can also be transformed through perseverance and compassion. The most profound challenge I’ve faced as an adult was the sudden loss of my husband, Jason. His death was a devastating blow, leaving me to navigate grief while still caring for our children. Just when I thought I couldn’t endure any more pain, I faced the unimaginable—the wrongful removal of my children from my care due to systemic failures in the child welfare system. Losing my husband was painful enough, but losing my children was a heartbreak I never expected. I found myself not only grieving but also fighting for justice in a broken system. Instead of succumbing to despair, I channeled my pain into advocacy. I’ve dedicated myself to exposing corruption and injustice in the child welfare system, striving to make the world a better place for children and parents. This journey has been difficult but transformative, pushing me to pursue higher education and a career focused on legal reform and social justice. This scholarship would be a crucial resource, allowing me to continue my education and advocacy work. By easing the financial burden of pursuing a degree, I can focus on my studies and prepare for a career in law and social reform, where I can continue to fight for justice. I aim to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to advocate for families who, like mine, are trapped in a system that often fails them. I want to be a stronger voice for those who are silenced by injustice. Philately, the study and collection of postage stamps, may seem an unexpected topic for this essay, but I see it as a meaningful way to encourage young people to engage with history and the world around them. Philately offers a unique opportunity to connect with different cultures and times, helping young people develop curiosity and critical thinking. Through the hobby, they can learn about the world beyond their immediate surroundings and find solace in the stories behind each stamp. To encourage young people to pursue philately, I would emphasize its educational value. Stamps provide a window into different histories, cultures, and stories. By engaging with this hobby, young people can not only learn about the world but also develop a deeper appreciation for history, art, and geography. I would encourage them to join stamp clubs and community events, where they can share their collections and learn from others, fostering a sense of connection and curiosity. In conclusion, the challenges I’ve faced—abuse as a child, the loss of my husband, and the wrongful removal of my children—have shaped my commitment to advocating for justice and creating a better world for families. This scholarship would help me continue my education, further my advocacy efforts, and ultimately make a positive impact on the lives of others. By supporting my goals, this scholarship would empower me to give back to my community and fight for the rights of those who need it most. I also hope to inspire young people to explore the world through hobbies like philately, helping them develop a love for learning and discovery.
Career Test for Future Lawyers Scholarship
Pursuing Justice and Advocacy: A Legal Career Path As I have navigated the challenging landscape of advocating for families within the child protective services system. My experiences in advocating for parental rights and exposing systemic flaws have instilled in me a passion for justice and a strong desire to contribute to reform within the legal system. A career in law would allow me to formalize my commitment to advocating for those whose voices are often silenced, particularly children and parents who face wrongful persecution. My desired career path is to become a lawyer specializing in family law, with a particular focus on child welfare and parental rights. This area of law directly aligns with my experiences and passion for making the world a better place for families. Through my advocacy work, I have gained a deep understanding of the injustices faced by parents in the child welfare system, including the unethical practices that often lead to unnecessary family separations. I have witnessed firsthand the consequences of a flawed system and how the lack of legal representation and understanding can devastate families. By becoming a lawyer, I hope to be the change I wish to see in the system, providing families with the support and representation they need to navigate the complexities of family law. To achieve my goals, I plan to pursue a law degree and focus my studies on family law and civil rights. I am currently working toward completing my undergraduate studies, where I aim to immerse myself in courses related to family law, child advocacy, and legal ethics. I have already taken steps to deepen my understanding of the legal system through my personal experiences, such as documenting systemic abuses in the child welfare system, communicating with legislators, and advocating for reform in the policies that affect families. These experiences have sharpened my ability to critically assess legal and ethical issues, and they have motivated me to pursue a legal education to better address these challenges at a larger scale. My skills and interests align perfectly with the legal profession. As someone who has spent considerable time researching and advocating for families, I have honed my communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills—essential tools for a successful legal career. I am passionate about helping people, and I believe that the law is one of the most powerful tools we have for achieving justice. My background in advocacy has prepared me to think critically about legal issues and to approach challenges with empathy, perseverance, and a strong moral compass. In the future, I envision making a positive impact within the legal profession by working to reform the child welfare system and advocating for better protection of parental rights. I hope to work with organizations and agencies that are dedicated to ensuring fairness and transparency within family law cases. By using my legal training, I aim to help families who are caught in unjust legal proceedings, ensuring that their rights are protected and that they have the opportunity to be heard. I also plan to contribute to broader legislative efforts aimed at reforming the child welfare system, drawing on my personal experiences and understanding of how laws can be changed to better serve vulnerable families. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to focus more fully on my education and career development, easing the financial burden of law school and enabling me to pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer. I am driven to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and parents, and I am committed to working tirelessly to create a more just and equitable legal system.

Understanding the Universe: A Path to Advocacy and Change The universe is an incredibly complex and intricate system, yet it is also something that can be understood in meaningful ways. Whether we are studying the far reaches of space or the nuanced experiences of individuals, the quest to understand the world around us is one of the most important pursuits in human history. This pursuit, though often seen through the lens of scientific discovery, is deeply tied to the broader human experience and to the well-being of all people. As someone who is deeply passionate about advocating for children and their parents, particularly in the context of child protective services, I believe that understanding the universe—on both a macro and micro level—is key to making our world a better place. My dedication to understanding the universe extends far beyond the physical sciences; it is rooted in a belief that the better we understand the world, the better we can improve it for those who are most vulnerable. As a student with a background in advocating for parental rights and addressing the flaws in systems that impact families, my mission is not just about grasping abstract concepts, but also about applying this knowledge to create tangible, positive changes. The universe is not merely a collection of stars and planets, but a complex network of interconnected systems, much like the social structures that shape our everyday lives. Understanding the forces that govern our world on all levels—whether natural, social, or psychological—helps us to better advocate for the most vulnerable among us, especially children who are caught in the web of an imperfect system. The importance of this understanding is made even clearer through my work in advocating for families facing unjust removal of their children, as I’ve witnessed firsthand how the lack of understanding and systemic flaws can have devastating effects. Many of the parents and children in these cases are subjected to policies and practices that do not align with a true understanding of their needs or the reality of their situations. By applying a deep understanding of human systems—an understanding that blends both scientific inquiry and ethical consideration—we can begin to reshape these systems to better serve families. The universe is complex, yes, but so are human societies, and the same principles that guide us toward scientific discovery can be applied to advocating for justice and compassion in our social institutions. I hope to employ a combination of ideas and concepts that bridge both the scientific and social realms. My passion for studying the universe begins with an interest in the human condition and how we can use knowledge to improve lives. Whether it's through understanding the psychological and emotional needs of children or studying the physical processes that affect human health and development, I believe that knowledge is a powerful tool for change. The same curiosity that drives physicists to explore the laws of nature can inspire us to delve into the societal laws and structures that govern our lives and how they affect families. To this end, I am particularly interested in fields like psychology, sociology, and law, as well as the natural sciences, because they intersect in meaningful ways when it comes to advocating for families. Through these disciplines, I hope to better understand the psychological and social mechanisms that impact parental rights, child development, and family dynamics. These fields, when combined, will equip me with a multifaceted approach to addressing the challenges faced by parents and children in the child welfare system. Being a first-generation college student, I understand the challenges of navigating these complex systems and institutions. But it is this very understanding that fuels my drive to succeed. I want to be the voice for those who are too often silenced in the process, whether they are families wrongfully separated or children who are unable to voice their own needs. By studying the universe through an interdisciplinary lens, I am committed to uncovering the hidden forces that govern both the physical and social worlds, and using that knowledge to advocate for meaningful reform. Receiving the Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship would provide me with the financial support I need to pursue this path. It would allow me to focus on my studies and dedicate myself fully to exploring the concepts that can drive change. I am committed to using the resources at my disposal to work toward making the world a better place, not just for my generation, but for future ones. Understanding the universe, in all its complexity, is the key to unlocking the potential for change and making a lasting difference for children, parents, and communities alike. In conclusion, I believe that the quest to understand the universe is not merely an intellectual endeavor, but a vital human activity that has the power to transform lives. By bridging the gap between the natural world and the social world, we can create systems that better serve and uplift those who are most vulnerable. It is my ambition to contribute to this effort, armed with the knowledge that both the universe and the world of human experience are intricately interconnected, and that understanding one can help us shape the other for the better.
    Elizabeth Schalk Memorial Scholarship
Rising Above the Challenges of Mental Illness Mental illness has been a constant presence in my life, shaping my experiences and influencing the person I have become. From enduring childhood abuse that left me with PTSD and anxiety, to facing the devastating loss of my husband, and the heart-wrenching experience of losing custody of my children due to falsified drug tests, my journey has been marked by pain and resilience. These struggles have profoundly impacted my mental health, forcing me to confront trauma head-on while navigating the challenges of rebuilding my life. As a child, I experienced abuse that left invisible scars. The trauma I endured created a persistent sense of fear and hypervigilance, which later developed into PTSD and anxiety. Even as I tried to move forward, the echoes of my past haunted me, influencing my relationships and daily interactions. Despite this, I pushed myself to persevere, determined to create a brighter future for myself and my loved ones. The loss of my husband was another life-altering event that compounded my grief and mental health challenges. He was not only my partner but also my source of strength and stability. His passing left a void that seemed impossible to fill, deepening my feelings of isolation and despair. It was during this time that I began to seek professional help, recognizing that I could not navigate these struggles alone. Therapy became a lifeline, providing me with tools to process my grief and manage my anxiety. The most devastating blow, however, was losing my children. Falsified drug tests led to their removal from my care, a situation that shattered my world. I felt helpless, stigmatized, and stripped of my identity as a mother. Yet even in this darkest hour, I refused to give up. I have been fighting tirelessly to clear my name and reunite with my children, drawing on every ounce of strength I have. Despite the immense pain these experiences have brought, they have also taught me invaluable lessons about resilience and self-compassion. They have shown me the importance of advocating for mental health awareness and breaking the stigma that so often surrounds it. My struggles have inspired me to pursue higher education as a way to rebuild my life and create a foundation for my future. I am currently working toward a degree that will allow me to support others who are navigating their own battles with mental illness and systemic injustice. Mental illness has shaped my story, but it does not define me. Each step forward is a testament to my determination to rise above the challenges I have faced. By continuing my education, I aim to use my experiences to help others find hope and healing, proving that even in the face of overwhelming adversity, recovery and growth are possible. The Elizabeth Schalk Memorial Scholarship represents an opportunity to turn my pain into purpose, honoring Elizabeth’s legacy while empowering me to continue my journey. My story is one of struggle, but also of resilience and hope—a reflection of the strength that can emerge when we confront mental illness with courage and compassion.
    Lost Dreams Awaken Scholarship
Recovery as a Path to Renewal To me, recovery is more than abstaining from substances; it is a journey of renewal, self-discovery, and reclaiming the life I was meant to live. It represents a commitment to growth, resilience, and the pursuit of a healthier, more purposeful existence. Recovery has taught me that healing is not a linear process but a continuous effort to confront my challenges with courage and honesty. It has meant learning to rebuild relationships, rediscover my strengths, and embrace vulnerability as a source of empowerment. Recovery has given me the tools to manage stress, set boundaries, and approach life with clarity and gratitude. Most importantly, recovery is about hope. It is a reminder that no matter how difficult the road has been, there is always a way forward. It has inspired me to pursue higher education, equipping myself with the knowledge and skills to give back to others who are navigating their own paths to healing. Through recovery, I have not only regained control of my life but have also found a deeper sense of purpose: to be a source of support and inspiration for others, proving that with determination and faith, lost dreams can indeed awaken.

Building a Community of Kindness Kindness is more than a fleeting act; it is a way of life that ripples outward, creating a profound and lasting impact. In my life, I have embraced kindness as a core value, striving to make a positive difference through acts of compassion and service. One particular instance, along with a pattern of ongoing efforts, highlights the power of kindness to transform lives and strengthen communities. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, my community faced significant challenges. Families struggled with food insecurity, students experienced disruptions in their education, and seniors endured isolation. Witnessing these hardships, I felt compelled to act. Partnering with local organizations, I helped organize a community relief initiative to address these urgent needs. The project began with a simple idea: to deliver meals to families and seniors in need. I coordinated with food banks, local businesses, and volunteers to gather donations and assemble care packages. Each package included essential groceries, hygiene products, and handwritten notes of encouragement. Over the course of six months, we distributed over 1,500 meals, ensuring that no one in our community went hungry or felt forgotten during those difficult times. Beyond providing material support, this initiative fostered a sense of connection and hope. Seniors, who often felt isolated, were deeply moved by the personal touch of the handwritten notes. One recipient shared that receiving the package reminded her that she was valued and cared for, even during moments of loneliness. Families expressed gratitude not only for the food but also for the compassion and solidarity shown by their neighbors. This experience reaffirmed my belief in the power of collective kindness. It also inspired me to take further action by mentoring high school students as part of a virtual tutoring program. Many students struggled with remote learning, and I recognized that academic challenges could exacerbate feelings of frustration and helplessness. By volunteering my time to tutor students in math and writing, I helped them regain confidence in their abilities. Witnessing their progress and renewed sense of motivation was immensely rewarding, and it reinforced my commitment to investing in the success of others. In addition to these efforts, I strive to incorporate kindness into my everyday interactions. Whether it’s by holding the door for someone, offering a listening ear, or encouraging a friend during a tough time, I believe that small acts of kindness can have a profound impact. These moments remind people that they are seen, valued, and supported, and they often inspire others to pay it forward. The impact of kindness extends beyond the immediate benefits it provides. Through the community relief initiative, I witnessed how acts of generosity can unite people and create a shared sense of purpose. The tutoring program demonstrated how kindness can empower individuals to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. These experiences have shaped my perspective, teaching me that kindness is a force capable of driving meaningful change. Looking ahead, I am determined to continue fostering kindness in all that I do. Whether through my career aspirations or personal endeavors, I aim to create opportunities for others to thrive and to build communities rooted in compassion. I am currently pursuing a degree in public health, with the goal of addressing systemic challenges that affect vulnerable populations. By combining my education with my commitment to kindness, I hope to implement programs and policies that promote equity, well-being, and resilience. The legacy of Jennifer and Rob Tower, defined by kindness, love, and generosity, serves as an inspiration to me. Their values resonate deeply, as I believe that true kindness has the power to change the world, one act at a time. Receiving this scholarship would enable me to continue my education and expand my capacity to make a positive impact. More importantly, it would honor the Towers’ legacy by reinforcing the importance of compassion as a guiding principle in our lives. In a world that often feels divided, kindness is a bridge that connects us. My experiences have taught me that no act of kindness is too small to matter and that every effort to uplift others contributes to a brighter, more compassionate future. It is my hope to continue embodying these values, spreading kindness wherever I go, and inspiring others to do the same.

Balancing Motherhood, Mental Health, and Academic Success As a college student and a mother, my life is a delicate balance of academic responsibilities, parenting, and personal well-being. The challenges I face are significant, but they have also taught me the importance of prioritizing mental health as a foundation for success in both school and family life. The dual roles I carry—as a student and a mother—require me to be organized, resilient, and compassionate toward myself, especially when the pressures feel overwhelming. My mental health plays a crucial role in my ability to manage these responsibilities. When I am emotionally balanced, I can approach my studies with focus and motivation while also being fully present for my child. However, when stress accumulates, whether from coursework, financial pressures, or the demands of parenting, it impacts every area of my life. There have been moments when I felt stretched too thin, unable to give my best to either my academics or my role as a mother. To maintain my mental well-being, I have developed strategies that allow me to navigate my responsibilities more effectively. Time management is one of my most important tools. I structure my days carefully, dedicating specific blocks of time to studying, attending classes, and spending quality time with my child. For example, I make the most of early mornings and nap times to focus on assignments, ensuring that I can devote evenings to family bonding. This routine provides structure while allowing flexibility when unexpected challenges arise. Self-care is another critical aspect of my mental health journey. As a mother, it is easy to prioritize everyone else’s needs above my own, but I have learned that I cannot pour from an empty cup. I carve out small moments for myself each day, whether through journaling, practicing mindfulness, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of coffee. These moments help me recharge and approach my responsibilities with a clear mind. I also lean on my support system, which includes family, friends, and campus resources. My loved ones provide emotional encouragement and practical help, such as babysitting when I need to study for exams. On campus, I have accessed counseling services to manage stress and anxiety, gaining tools to navigate the challenges of balancing school and motherhood. These resources remind me that I am not alone in my journey and that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Beyond my personal efforts, I am passionate about promoting mental health awareness among my peers. I actively participate in a student organization dedicated to mental wellness, where I advocate for resources and support systems that benefit students, especially those who, like me, juggle multiple roles. Sharing my story as a student-mother has been a way to encourage others to prioritize their well-being and to foster a community of understanding and support. Being a mother has also shaped my academic goals and driven my determination to succeed. My child is my greatest motivation, inspiring me to create a brighter future for both of us. I want to set an example of resilience, showing that with dedication and self-care, it is possible to overcome challenges and achieve one’s dreams. By prioritizing my mental health, I have found the strength to excel in school, nurture my child, and grow as an individual. This scholarship represents an opportunity to continue pursuing my education while maintaining my commitment to mental wellness. I hope to use my experiences to inspire others and to build a future where every student, mother, and individual recognizes the value of their mental health in achieving success and happiness.
    Pro-Life Advocates Scholarship
A Journey of Compassion and Advocacy My pro-life position is deeply rooted in my personal experiences, faith, and belief in the inherent dignity of every human life. Growing up in a family that valued compassion and service, I was taught from a young age to care for those who are most vulnerable. These lessons became especially meaningful as I witnessed people in my community navigate complex and painful decisions surrounding unplanned pregnancies. Through these experiences, I developed a profound respect for the sanctity of life and a commitment to advocate for both the unborn and the mothers carrying them. One pivotal moment that solidified my pro-life convictions was volunteering at the local HOPE Clinic in Benton, Kentucky, where I took my first parenting class. There, I encountered women facing unthinkable challenges—poverty, lack of support, and societal pressure—while carrying the weight of life-changing decisions. Hearing their stories gave me a deeper understanding of the obstacles many face when choosing life for their child. I also saw the transformative power of support and resources in helping these women feel empowered to embrace motherhood. These interactions taught me that defending life is not just about opposing abortion; it’s about creating an environment where women and families can thrive. In my daily life, I strive to promote the value and dignity of all human beings through service, advocacy, and education. I remain active in the pro-life movement by participating in events such as marches and prayer vigils, which provide an opportunity to raise awareness and foster community solidarity. Additionally, I engage in respectful dialogue with those who hold different views, emphasizing the need for compassion and understanding. I believe that meaningful conversations, rooted in empathy, are key to bridging divides and advancing the pro-life cause. Beyond advocacy, I am committed to taking tangible actions that support life in practical ways. As a volunteer at the pregnancy center, I assist women by connecting them to resources like housing, healthcare, and childcare. By helping them overcome the barriers they face, I aim to show them that choosing life is not only possible but also empowering. In addition, I mentor young people in my church and community, emphasizing the importance of valuing life and treating every individual with respect and dignity. These experiences have not only shaped my pro-life stance but have also influenced my future goals. I am pursuing a degree in political science with the intention of working in public policy or law, focusing on crafting legislation that protects the unborn while supporting mothers and families. I believe that a comprehensive pro-life ethic involves addressing the root causes that lead women to consider abortion, such as lack of access to healthcare, economic insecurity, and insufficient support systems. My ultimate vision is to help build a society where every human life is celebrated and protected, from conception to natural death. By combining advocacy with practical support and systemic change, I hope to promote a culture of life that affirms the dignity of all people. Through my actions and aspirations, I am committed to honoring the value of every human being, especially the unborn, and ensuring they have the opportunity to live, grow, and contribute to our shared world.

Faith in Action: Defending Life and Building a Culture of Compassion Faith is the foundation of my life, shaping my values, actions, and aspirations. As a Christian, I strive to live out my faith by loving and serving others, particularly the most vulnerable. My commitment to the Pro-Life movement stems from my belief that all human life is sacred, created in the image of God, and deserving of protection from conception to natural death. This conviction influences my daily choices, my career goals, and my vision for a more just and compassionate society. In my daily life, I actively support the Pro-Life cause by engaging in service and advocacy. I volunteer at a pregnancy resource center, where I assist women facing unplanned pregnancies. Through counseling, connecting them with medical and financial resources, and providing emotional support, I strive to embody the love and compassion of Christ. Witnessing the courage of these women and the precious lives they carry has deepened my commitment to advocating for life. Additionally, I participate in community events such as Pro-Life marches and prayer vigils, using my voice to stand up for the voiceless. My faith has profoundly influenced my career aspirations. I am pursuing a degree in political science with the goal of shaping policies that protect and affirm life. My understanding of justice, rooted in biblical principles, compels me to address not only the issue of abortion but also the broader societal factors that lead women to feel they have no choice but to terminate their pregnancies. I am passionate about advocating for legislation that supports women with practical resources, promotes adoption as a viable alternative, and ensures that families have access to the support they need to thrive. One of the most transformative aspects of my faith is its call to see every individual as a person of infinite worth. This belief drives my desire to create a society where life is valued at every stage. My education will equip me with the tools to craft and advocate for policies that address the dignity of all people, including the unborn, the elderly, and those with disabilities. By combining my faith with my knowledge of law and public policy, I hope to promote a consistent ethic of life that inspires others to do the same. My ultimate goal is to be a voice for the voiceless and an advocate for systemic change. I envision working in public policy or law, collaborating with organizations that align with Pro-Life principles to craft legislation that protects life while providing tangible support for those in need. For instance, I hope to champion policies that expand access to maternal healthcare, improve adoption processes, and create economic opportunities for families facing financial hardship. The story of Natalie Joy Poremski inspires me deeply. Her life, though brief, serves as a powerful reminder of the beauty and value of every human life. Her mother’s courage and faith exemplify the heart of the Pro-Life movement: choosing love, even in the face of hardship. It is my prayer that I can carry this legacy forward through my education and career, working to protect life at all stages and fostering a culture where every person is valued and supported. In all that I do, I strive to live out my faith by standing for truth, showing compassion, and working tirelessly to defend the dignity of every human life. With the support of this scholarship, I will continue to pursue my calling to advocate for life, honoring the legacy of Natalie Joy Poremski and countless others whose stories remind us of the sacredness of life.

From Struggle to Strength: Using Education to Build a Brighter Future My journey through addiction and recovery has been one of profound transformation. At my lowest point, I felt trapped in a cycle of substance abuse that drained my hope and obscured any vision for the future. Overcoming my addiction required immense courage, support, and a willingness to embrace change. It was during this process that I realized the importance of education not only as a path to personal growth but also as a means to make a meaningful impact on others who face similar struggles. I first encountered substance abuse during a difficult period in my life when I felt isolated and overwhelmed by personal challenges. Drugs and alcohol became a way to escape the pain, but over time, they took control of my life. The addiction affected my relationships, my self-esteem, and my ability to pursue any goals. The thought of attending college or building a stable future seemed impossible, and I eventually dropped out of school, convinced that my potential was lost. The turning point came when I reached out for help and entered a treatment program. The recovery process was not easy—it demanded a complete rethinking of my habits, relationships, and sense of self-worth. However, it was in recovery that I rediscovered my strength and resilience. I met counselors and mentors who believed in me when I could not believe in myself. These individuals inspired me to consider how I could use my experiences to give back to others. Now, as I pursue a college degree, I am motivated by a clear sense of purpose. I want to study psychology and specialize in addiction counseling, particularly for underserved communities. During my recovery, I witnessed how many people, especially those from low-income backgrounds, struggle to access the resources they need to overcome addiction. I want to address this gap by creating programs that offer affordable, accessible care and by serving as a mentor to individuals who feel as lost as I once did. My own experience has shown me how education can open doors to a better life. Through my studies, I am gaining tools to understand the complexities of addiction and develop strategies to support others. I am also learning how to advocate for policy changes that improve access to treatment and reduce the stigma surrounding addiction. I envision a future where more people feel empowered to seek help and pursue their dreams, free from the constraints of substance abuse. Receiving this scholarship would be a crucial step in my journey. As a low-income student, I face financial challenges that make higher education difficult to afford. This support would allow me to focus on my studies without the constant stress of balancing work and school. More importantly, it would validate the progress I have made and reinforce my commitment to helping others who are navigating their own recovery journeys. Addiction tried to rob me of my potential, but it also taught me valuable lessons about resilience, compassion, and the power of community. By pursuing higher education, I am reclaiming my future and working to ensure that others have the opportunity to do the same. I am deeply grateful for the chance to share my story and for the possibility of using this scholarship to turn my struggles into a source of strength for others. With the support of the Trudgers Fund, I will continue to honor the principles of recovery—integrity, service, and growth—as I work to build a brighter future for myself and those I hope to help.
    Gerianne Pfeiffer Native American Scholarship
Embracing My Heritage, Pursuing My Dreams My Native American heritage has been both a source of strength and a challenge in my educational journey. Growing up in a tight-knit tribal community, I was surrounded by stories of resilience, cultural pride, and connection to the land. These values instilled in me a deep sense of purpose and belonging, but navigating the education system as a Native American student has not always been easy. Systemic barriers, financial limitations, and social isolation have often complicated my path. Nevertheless, my identity has shaped my goals and determination to pursue higher education—not just for myself, but for the betterment of my community. In my early schooling, I struggled to see myself reflected in the curriculum or among my peers. Our textbooks rarely included the stories of Native peoples, except in historical contexts that often reinforced stereotypes or marginalized our contributions to society. This invisibility made it difficult to feel a sense of belonging in the classroom. Moreover, I rarely encountered Native mentors or educators who could guide me through the challenges of academia. These gaps made me question whether college was a space where I could thrive. Financial challenges also played a significant role in shaping my educational experience. Many families in my community, including my own, grapple with generational poverty that stems from centuries of systemic inequities. Limited access to resources like test preparation, extracurricular activities, or advanced placement courses created additional obstacles. When it came time to consider college, the cost seemed insurmountable, especially without robust support systems to navigate scholarships, grants, or financial aid. Despite these barriers, my heritage has been a powerful motivator to persist. I am inspired by the stories of my ancestors, who endured unimaginable hardships yet preserved our traditions and culture. Their resilience has fueled my desire to achieve academic success and use my education to uplift my community. My goal is to earn a degree in social work, focusing on creating programs that address the educational and mental health needs of Native youth. I believe that access to culturally informed counseling and mentorship can help break the cycle of marginalization for future generations. My experiences have also reinforced the importance of building bridges between Native communities and the broader educational system. I envision a future where more Native students see themselves represented in the curriculum, where they have access to mentors who understand their unique challenges, and where financial barriers no longer prevent them from reaching their potential. Receiving this scholarship would not only help me overcome the financial hurdles of higher education but also honor the legacy of Gerianne Pfeiffer by allowing me to serve as a role model for others. I want to show Native youth that their voices matter and that they, too, can pursue their dreams without losing their cultural identity. With the support of this scholarship, I will continue to honor my heritage while building a future where Native students are no longer overlooked, but celebrated for their unique strengths and contributions. My journey has not been without challenges, but I am proud to carry the traditions of my ancestors as I work toward a brighter future for myself and my community. This scholarship represents an opportunity not just for my education, but for the empowerment of Native students everywhere.

HeySunday Scholarship for Moms in College
Growing up, I always envisioned myself as a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. To me, this role symbolized love, stability, and the opportunity to nurture a family with care and intention. While the path I imagined has taken unexpected turns, my dedication to this vision remains steadfast. Motherhood has always been my dream career, and even amidst life’s challenges, it continues to define my purpose and guide my journey. Enrolling in college at 35 as a non-traditional student was not a deviation from this path but rather a necessary evolution of it. My decision to pursue higher education was born out of both necessity and a deep-seated desire to better advocate for my family and others like us. My encounter with the child welfare system exposed systemic flaws that ignited a passion for justice within me. Navigating this complex and often unforgiving system required strength, resilience, and an unyielding commitment to my children. It was through this experience that I realized the importance of equipping myself with the knowledge and skills to challenge injustices and create meaningful change. As a single parent, balancing academic responsibilities with the demands of raising a child has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life. My mornings often begin before sunrise, ensuring my children are cared for and ready to thrive, followed by classes, assignments, and endless study sessions. Late nights are spent reviewing coursework while simultaneously preparing for supper and baths. It is a delicate dance of priorities, but one that I embrace wholeheartedly because the stakes are too high to do otherwise. Financial constraints, time management, and emotional resilience are constant hurdles, yet they have also been powerful motivators. Education represents stability, opportunity, and the ability to provide a life free from the uncertainties that have too often shaped our past. It is also a way to demonstrate to my children the value of perseverance and the importance of pursuing one’s dreams, no matter the obstacles. This scholarship represents more than financial support; it is a lifeline that would enable me to continue my education without the constant worry of how to make ends meet. It would allow me to focus on my studies, secure better childcare options, and dedicate myself fully to both my academic and parental responsibilities. Most importantly, it serves as a recognition of the unique challenges faced by single mothers pursuing higher education. My ultimate goal is to use my education to advocate for systemic reforms and support other families facing hardships. Whether through community outreach, mentoring, or policy work, I am determined to be a voice for change. My journey has given me a deep empathy for others in similar situations, and I am committed to ensuring that no parent feels alone or unsupported in their pursuit of a better future. In conclusion, my childhood dream of being a stay-at-home mother and homemaker has grown into a broader vision of creating stability, love, and opportunity for my family while working to empower others. Enrolling in college as a non-traditional student is not a departure from my original career path but an expansion of it—one that combines my passion for family with a drive for justice and change. This scholarship would be an invaluable step toward achieving these goals.
Organic Formula Shop Single Parent Scholarship
Being a student and a single parent is a balancing act that constantly tests my resilience, adaptability, and determination. Each day brings its own set of challenges, as I juggle academic responsibilities with the demanding yet rewarding role of raising my children. Time, or the lack thereof, is perhaps the most pressing challenge I face. Between attending classes, completing assignments, and ensuring my children have the love, care, and attention they need, there are simply not enough hours in the day. Often, I find myself sacrificing sleep or personal time to meet the needs of both worlds, which can be exhausting but also deeply fulfilling. Financial constraints add another layer of difficulty. As a single parent, I am solely responsible for providing for my children, which means every dollar must be carefully allocated. The cost of tuition, textbooks, childcare, and daily living expenses can feel overwhelming at times, and there is little room for unexpected emergencies. Despite these financial pressures, I am committed to pursuing my degree because I know it is the key to creating a better future for both myself and my children. Emotional challenges are also a significant part of this journey. There are moments when the weight of my responsibilities feels almost unbearable, and the fear of failing either as a parent or a student creeps in. Yet, these moments are also opportunities for growth. They remind me why I embarked on this journey in the first place: to create a life of stability, opportunity, and hope for my family. My children are my greatest source of inspiration, and their unwavering belief in me fuels my determination to keep going, even on the toughest days. This scholarship would be a transformative resource in my journey. The financial support would ease the burden of tuition and other educational expenses, allowing me to focus more on my studies and less on the constant worry of making ends meet. It would also enable me to invest in better childcare options, ensuring that my children are well cared for while I am attending classes or studying. Most importantly, this scholarship would be a validation of my efforts and a reminder that I am not alone in this journey—that there are people and organizations who believe in the potential of single parents like me. Earning my degree is not just about personal achievement; it is about paving the way for a brighter future for my children. Education opens doors to better job opportunities, financial stability, and the ability to provide a secure and nurturing environment for my family. Beyond the tangible benefits, it also sets an example for my children, showing them the value of hard work, perseverance, and lifelong learning. I want my children to grow up knowing that challenges can be overcome and dreams can be achieved with determination and support. Looking ahead, I see myself using my education to contribute to my community and advocate for others facing similar struggles. My own experiences have given me a deep empathy for single parents and students, and I hope to use my voice and skills to drive positive change. Whether it is through mentoring, community outreach, or policy advocacy, I am committed to giving back and helping others navigate the complexities of balancing education and parenthood. In conclusion, being a single parent and a student is undoubtedly challenging, but it is a journey that has taught me the true meaning of strength, perseverance, and hope. With this support, I am confident that I can create a brighter future for my children and contribute to building a more empathetic and understanding community.
    Charles B. Brazelton Memorial Scholarship
From as early as I can remember, my dream was to become a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. To me, this was more than just a career—it was a life’s purpose. I envisioned a future where I could create a warm and supportive environment for my family, where love and stability would be the foundation of everything we did. While other children imagined careers as astronauts, doctors, or teachers, I found my calling in the art of nurturing a home. This dream came true, and I embraced it wholeheartedly. As a homemaker, I discovered a deep sense of fulfillment in caring for my children and managing the day-to-day operations of our household. Cooking meals, organizing family routines, and fostering traditions became ways for me to channel creativity and express my love. Every act of care felt like a contribution to my family’s happiness and growth, solidifying my belief that homemaking was my true calling. However, life’s unpredictability soon demanded a shift in my path. My encounter with the child welfare system was a turning point. This experience, while painful, ignited a drive within me to pursue systemic justice and advocate for those whose voices are often marginalized. It was through this ordeal that I realized the importance of equipping myself with additional skills and knowledge to support not only my family but also my broader community. At 35, I made the courageous decision to enroll in college. As a non-traditional student, this step represented a leap of faith into uncharted territory. Balancing academic responsibilities with my role as a mother has not been without its challenges, but the motivation to succeed comes from my desire to create a better future for my family and others. By returning to school, I aim to lead by example, demonstrating to my children that it is never too late to grow, learn, and pursue new dreams. My education has also deepened my understanding of how I can contribute meaningfully to society. The skills I am acquiring in college are not only broadening my career prospects but also enabling me to advocate more effectively for systemic reforms. Whether it’s understanding policy intricacies or crafting compelling arguments for change, I am gaining the tools I need to address the injustices I’ve witnessed firsthand. This journey has reaffirmed my belief that my role as a homemaker extends beyond the walls of my home—it is about creating environments of care and support on a larger scale. My childhood dream of being a stay-at-home mother remains at the heart of who I am. Yet, my path has evolved to include new dimensions, driven by a commitment to justice and lifelong learning. By pursuing higher education, I am honoring my original dream while expanding its scope to encompass advocacy and community-building. This journey has shown me that while life may not always follow the plans we envision, it often leads us to opportunities to grow in ways we never imagined. Ultimately, my experiences as a homemaker and my pursuit of education are two sides of the same coin—both rooted in a desire to nurture and create positive change. Through resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to my values, I continue to build a life that reflects the essence of my childhood dream while embracing the challenges and opportunities that come my way.
    Harry & Mary Sheaffer Scholarship
Building a more empathetic and understanding global community requires the intentional application of one’s unique talents and skills to bridge divides and foster meaningful connections. My life experiences, academic pursuits, and advocacy efforts have shaped my approach to creating spaces where empathy thrives and understanding prevails. One of my most profound talents lies in storytelling—a skill that enables me to connect with people across cultural, social, and ideological boundaries. I’ve learned that stories are powerful tools for fostering empathy. When we share our experiences and listen to those of others, we begin to dismantle prejudices and build bridges of understanding. For example, as someone who has faced systemic challenges within the child welfare system, I’ve used my story to advocate for reforms that prioritize family integrity and fairness. By sharing my journey with legislators, community leaders, and fellow advocates, I’ve not only raised awareness but also encouraged others to see the humanity in every individual’s struggle. My academic background further equips me to contribute to a more compassionate world. As a college student deeply interested in social sciences, I’ve developed critical thinking skills that allow me to analyze complex issues and propose thoughtful solutions. These skills have proven invaluable in my advocacy work, where addressing systemic injustices often requires navigating layers of bureaucracy and policy. By applying research and evidence-based approaches, I strive to craft solutions that are not only effective but also equitable, ensuring that the voices of marginalized communities are heard and respected. Another skill I bring to this mission is my ability to foster collaboration. Empathy flourishes in environments where people feel safe to share their perspectives, and I excel at creating those spaces. Whether organizing community events, facilitating discussions, or mentoring individuals, I prioritize inclusivity and active listening. This commitment has been evident in my volunteer work, where I’ve brought together diverse groups to address shared challenges such as poverty, education inequities, and access to healthcare. Through these efforts, I’ve witnessed how collective action, rooted in empathy, can lead to transformative outcomes. Technology is another avenue through which I aim to amplify empathy on a global scale. In today’s interconnected world, digital platforms offer unprecedented opportunities to share stories, promote understanding, and mobilize support for important causes. I plan to leverage social media and other digital tools to highlight narratives that inspire compassion and challenge stereotypes. By curating content that celebrates diversity and fosters dialogue, I hope to encourage others to see the world through a lens of shared humanity. Finally, my commitment to lifelong learning ensures that I continually grow in my capacity to contribute meaningfully. Building an empathetic and understanding global community requires humility and a willingness to adapt. I actively seek out opportunities to learn from others, whether through formal education, cultural exchanges, or simply listening to someone’s lived experience. This mindset not only enriches my perspective but also reinforces my belief in the importance of empathy as a guiding principle. In a world often divided by differences, I see my talents and skills as tools to build connections and foster understanding. By sharing stories, advocating for justice, facilitating collaboration, leveraging technology, and embracing lifelong learning, I am committed to contributing to a global community where empathy and understanding are not just ideals but realities. Together, through intentional actions and shared efforts, I believe we can create a world that values every individual’s humanity and potential.

Excellence is not an occasional act but a consistent commitment to being better, doing better, and striving for the best in every endeavor. To exemplify a spirit of excellence in my everyday life, I focus on intentionality, perseverance, and a heart for service. These principles not only shape how I approach personal goals but also how I contribute to the betterment of my community. Each day, I aim to approach tasks, big or small, with the utmost dedication. As a full-time college student, I hold myself accountable to maintain academic rigor while balancing the responsibilities of family life and community engagement. This commitment requires effective time management, resilience, and a willingness to learn from setbacks. For example, during a particularly challenging semester, I faced personal hardships that tested my focus. Rather than succumb to discouragement, I leaned into my studies, utilizing resources like tutoring and study groups to excel. That semester, I not only improved my GPA but also gained a deeper understanding of my capacity to overcome adversity. Excellence extends beyond personal achievements; it is equally about fostering growth and positivity in others. Giving back to my community is central to who I am, and I seek every opportunity to make a difference, no matter the scale. I’ve volunteered at local shelters, organized drives for underprivileged families, and even advocated for systemic reforms to protect vulnerable populations. These efforts stem from my belief that every small act of kindness contributes to a larger ripple effect of positive change. One of my most fulfilling roles has been as an advocate for parental rights within the child welfare system. Having experienced firsthand the challenges of navigating this system, I’ve dedicated my voice to ensuring transparency and fairness for others. Whether through writing to legislators, attending public hearings, or mentoring parents facing similar struggles, I aim to embody excellence by turning personal pain into purposeful advocacy. Witnessing families reunited and children thriving reassures me that this work is not only necessary but impactful. Moreover, I consistently prioritize community involvement to ensure that my efforts extend beyond individual actions. Recently, I applied to become a board member of the Marshall County Fiscal Court, motivated by a desire to contribute to the policy decisions that shape our community. Serving in this capacity would enable me to address issues like resource allocation, education, and public welfare from a leadership perspective. While the journey to achieve this goal involves preparation and persistence, I’m committed to bringing a spirit of excellence to the role should I be selected. Ultimately, living with a spirit of excellence means embracing the interconnectedness of personal growth and collective upliftment. By setting high standards for myself and actively contributing to the well-being of others, I strive to leave a meaningful impact. Whether through academic achievement, community advocacy, or simply being a dependable neighbor, I approach each day as an opportunity to grow and give back. Excellence, for me, is not about perfection but about consistency, compassion, and a dedication to making the world a little better, one action at a time.

Writing has always been a powerful outlet for me, allowing me to express my thoughts, emotions, and experiences in ways that are deeply personal yet relatable. What I love most about writing is its ability to transform complex feelings into words that can communicate clearly and authentically. I enjoy the process of finding the right words to bring clarity to my ideas, and I find immense satisfaction in crafting something that resonates with others. Writing also provides a sense of control over my narrative. As someone who has navigated challenging situations, including the loss of my first husband and the struggles of being a single parent, I’ve found that writing helps me process emotions and make sense of my life’s events. It serves as both a therapeutic tool and a way to advocate for the changes I believe in. There is a profound sense of empowerment that comes from knowing that my words can have an impact, whether it’s to raise awareness, share knowledge, or offer encouragement. I want to further my education because I believe that education is the key to unlocking my full potential as an advocate and public servant. As a student, I’ve experienced firsthand the benefits of education—not only in terms of personal growth and development but also in how it allows me to better serve my community. By continuing my education, I can acquire the knowledge and skills needed to influence policy changes, create meaningful programs, and advocate more effectively for families and children who face adversity. Additionally, my education will empower me to push for reforms that address the systemic issues contributing to social and economic inequalities, particularly in areas like child welfare and education. Pursuing higher education is also a way for me to set an example for my children, Mackenzie and Dallas. I want them to understand the importance of education and to see that despite challenges, it is possible to create a better future. By furthering my education, I am investing in not only my own future but also in the future of my family and my community. Kerry Kennedy Life Is Good Scholarship
My career of choice is to become a public servant and advocate for children and families, particularly in addressing issues related to education, healthcare, and social justice. I am passionate about this career path because I’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges families face when navigating bureaucratic systems, especially when they are dealing with economic hardship. Having experienced these challenges myself, I am deeply committed to using my voice and experiences to help others overcome systemic barriers and ensure that everyone has access to the opportunities and resources they need to thrive. Throughout my life, I’ve seen the power of advocacy in creating meaningful change. I’ve been actively involved in advocating for the rights of parents, like myself, who are navigating the child welfare system. I’ve observed the ways in which families can be torn apart by unjust practices and a lack of understanding of the broader social and economic factors at play. This has motivated me to pursue a career in public service, where I can work to influence policy changes that prioritize the well-being of families and children. I want to create a world where people don’t have to face unnecessary adversity due to their socioeconomic status, and where children are given every opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background. One of the reasons I am so passionate about this career is because of my personal experience as a single mother. Raising Dallas and Mackenzie, has taught me the importance of stability, love, and support in a child’s life. It has also shown me the ways in which children can thrive when their emotional and intellectual needs are met, and how society can fail them when these needs are ignored. Being a mother has given me a unique perspective on what it means to advocate for the well-being of children and families, and it has fueled my drive to pursue a career that makes a positive difference in their lives. The sacrifices I’ve made to accomplish my personal and educational goals have been significant. As a single parent, balancing the demands of school, work, and raising a child has often meant putting my own needs on the back burner. I’ve had to make financial sacrifices, often living on a tight budget, and I’ve spent many late nights studying or working to keep up with coursework. I’ve also sacrificed a great deal of personal time, as my focus has been on ensuring that my children's needs are met and that I’m able to provide a stable environment for them while working toward my degree. Despite these sacrifices, I’ve remained committed to my education because I know that earning my degree is the key to creating a better future for both myself and my babies. I’ve also had to navigate the emotional challenges of being a single parent while pursuing my career goals. There have been times when I’ve felt overwhelmed by the weight of my responsibilities, but I’ve learned to persevere through determination and resilience. Each sacrifice I’ve made has reinforced my commitment to my goals and my belief in the importance of education and advocacy in making meaningful change. In conclusion, my career choice is driven by a desire to help others and to create a society where families and children are supported and given the opportunities they deserve. The sacrifices I’ve made along the way have been difficult, but they have strengthened my resolve to succeed. I am passionate about this career because it aligns with my values and experiences, and I am determined to continue working toward a better future for my family and for others in need

Having grown up in Florida, where I witnessed both the beauty and struggle of different communities, I have always had a deep understanding of how socioeconomic factors can impact a person’s opportunities. This awareness has shaped my personal resolve to make a difference in my community. Throughout my life, I’ve experienced my own struggles with financial hardship, particularly after the loss of my first husband, Jason. The financial strain that came with losing him taught me to be resourceful and resilient. I had to find ways to provide for my children, Mackenzie and Dallas, while pursuing my education and maintaining a sense of stability in our lives. This experience not only strengthened my determination but also deepened my empathy for others in similar circumstances. I’ve come to understand that financial hardship isn’t just a lack of money—it can be a barrier to dreams, an obstacle to access, and a source of stress that affects every aspect of a person’s life. My goal is to make a positive impact in my community by addressing these socioeconomic disparities, particularly in education and healthcare. As a future advocate, I want to help bridge the gaps that exist for families struggling to meet basic needs. I believe that every person, regardless of their financial situation, deserves access to education, healthcare, and the support they need to thrive. My passion for this cause stems from my own experiences, as I’ve seen how difficult it can be to access necessary resources when you’re living paycheck to paycheck or facing unexpected financial setbacks. It is my belief that a person’s worth is not defined by their financial situation, but by their potential, and I want to work toward creating a society where that potential is not limited by socioeconomic status. In my personal life, experiencing financial hardship has had a profound impact on my relationships. It has taught me the importance of community, support systems, and the power of empathy. I’ve learned that those who face adversity often need more than just financial assistance—they need a sense of belonging, encouragement, and the belief that they can overcome obstacles. This is why I’ve chosen to dedicate my career to advocating for those who are often overlooked, particularly those in lower-income communities. My experiences have shaped my belief that public policy must address the systemic issues that perpetuate poverty, such as inadequate education, lack of access to affordable healthcare, and barriers to employment. Through my education and future work in public service, I hope to implement programs that address the root causes of socioeconomic adversity. I want to ensure that families facing financial hardship have access to the resources and opportunities they need to improve their lives. Whether it’s advocating for more affordable housing, supporting policies that increase access to quality education, or pushing for healthcare reform, I am committed to being a voice for those who often have none. In conclusion, my experiences with financial hardship have shaped my worldview and driven my desire to make a difference. They have reinforced my belief in the power of resilience, community, and the importance of equal opportunity for all. By addressing socioeconomic adversity, I aim to create a society where everyone has the chance to reach their full potential, regardless of their financial background. I am determined to make a lasting impact in the lives of those who need it the most.

Balancing my education with my commitment to my family as a single parent is undoubtedly a challenge, but I’ve developed a plan and mindset that allows me to stay focused on both. As a full-time student at WKCTC, I’m deeply committed to my academic goals while also being dedicated to my family, especially to my children, Mackenzie and Dallas. Being a single parent has taught me the importance of time management, resilience, and the ability to adapt to unexpected situations. One of the most crucial elements in balancing my education and family responsibilities is creating a structured schedule that prioritizes both. I know that, as a single parent, my time is limited, so I have learned to make the most of every moment. I schedule my classes around my children's needs, ensuring that I’m present for all their appointments, school events, and the day-to-day tasks that come with being a parent. Since my deceased husband’s disability income helps support us financially, I can focus on my studies without the added pressure of working full-time. Still, I rely on careful planning to keep up with coursework, study time, and any responsibilities related to my advocacy work, which is something I am very passionate about. My approach to balancing these demands also involves a support network. I’ve always been open to asking for help when necessary, and I lean on trusted friends and family who can assist with childcare or lend an ear when I need to vent or gain perspective. As a parent, I want to be a role model to Mackenzie and Dallas by showing them that hard work, dedication, and education can lead to personal growth and change. They are a major motivation for me to keep pushing forward, knowing that the sacrifices I make today will lead to a better future for them and me. This scholarship would be instrumental in helping me achieve my goal of earning my degree. As someone deeply invested in my education, it would help alleviate the financial burden that often comes with attending college. While my deceased husband’s disability income supports us, there are still many expenses, including tuition, textbooks, and the costs associated with balancing school and family life. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to focus more on my studies and less on financial stress, providing me with the opportunity to continue my education without compromise. It would also support my goal of eventually transferring to a four-year college, where I plan to further my studies and pursue a career in politics. This scholarship would provide me with not only the financial support needed to reach my goals but also the motivation to continue striving toward my dreams. Ultimately, my commitment to both my family and my education fuels my drive to succeed. I believe that with a clear focus, support from loved ones, and financial assistance through this scholarship, I can maintain a healthy balance between being an active, present mother and a dedicated student. My desire to create positive change through education, advocacy, and my future career is rooted in my experiences, and I am determined to set a strong example for Mackenzie and Dallas and others who might be facing similar challenges. This scholarship would be an essential part of that journey, helping me achieve the future I am working so hard to build.

The loss of my first husband, Jason, was a life-altering experience that forever shaped my perspective and resilience. Jason was not just my partner; he was my source of unwavering support and love. His presence brought stability and joy into my life, and when he passed away, it felt as though the foundation of my world had crumbled beneath me. The future I had envisioned with him was suddenly uncertain, and the void left by his absence seemed impossible to fill. Jason was a devoted father, and being a dad was the fulfillment of his life’s dream. After serving 15 years in the military, he was overjoyed to transition into fatherhood, a role he cherished deeply. He poured his heart into his daughters, always striving to give them the love, support, and guidance they needed. Watching him be such a loving father to them was one of the most beautiful aspects of our life together. His commitment to his family was a reflection of his incredible character, and I knew how proud he was to be a dad. Navigating life without Jason was incredibly challenging. It forced me to confront grief and uncertainty in ways I had never imagined. In the aftermath of his death, I had to learn how to rebuild my life from the ground up—not only for my own sake but also for the sake of my family. His passing instilled in me a profound appreciation for the fragility of life. I learned the hard truth that life is unpredictable, and each moment is precious. I found myself grappling with both loss and the deep sense of responsibility to carry on in his memory. One of the things I miss most is hearing Jason sing his favorite songs by his favorite band, Alabama. Whether we were riding down the road in our Jeep, with the windows down and the music blasting, or sitting in the living room together, his voice always brought a sense of joy and warmth. His daughters would sing along in the backseat, and those moments felt so full of life and love. The sound of his voice, combined with the laughter of his girls, is a memory I hold dear. In the face of such loss, I discovered a renewed sense of purpose. Jason’s death sparked a newfound determination within me to live a meaningful and impactful life. I realized that while grief was inevitable, it didn’t have to define me. Instead of letting it overwhelm me, I chose to channel my pain into something positive. I became more dedicated to my personal growth and to helping others who were going through their own struggles. I saw firsthand how crucial community, empathy, and advocacy could be in the healing process, and I knew I wanted to make a difference in the lives of those facing hardship. Jason’s loss taught me that even in the face of immense pain, growth and purpose can emerge. It wasn’t an easy lesson, but it was one that has shaped who I am today. His memory continues to motivate me every day, inspiring me to pursue my education, my advocacy work, and my passion for creating positive change. I want to live a life that reflects the qualities he embodied—kindness, strength, and love. Through this journey of grief and healing, I’ve come to realize that helping others is one of the most powerful ways to honor those we’ve lost. Jason’s memory remains a guiding light in my life, reminding me to live with purpose and to make a difference where I can.

Returning to school as an adult has been both a rewarding and challenging experience, marked by personal growth and perseverance. While the decision to pursue higher education was driven by a desire to create a brighter future for my family, the journey has been anything but straightforward. Balancing the demands of school, family, and advocacy has tested my limits, but it has also proven my resilience. One of the most significant challenges I faced was managing the competing priorities of parenting and academics. As a mother, my son Dallas remains my top priority, and ensuring his well-being requires considerable time and effort. Before returning to school, I dedicated myself entirely to his care, organizing his pediatric appointments, vaccinations, and developmental services. Now, I must carefully balance those responsibilities with a full-time college schedule. Finding time to study, complete assignments, and attend classes while maintaining my role as a present and engaged parent has been a delicate juggling act. Another hurdle has been the financial strain of pursuing a degree. My family relies on my husband’s disability income, which provides stability but leaves little room for unexpected expenses or tuition costs. Owning our home has helped, but returning to school has added financial pressures. The challenge has been to make ends meet while investing in my education and ensuring Dallas has everything he needs. Despite this, I remain committed to achieving my goals and finding creative solutions to manage our budget. Emotional and mental resilience has been another significant area of growth. Returning to school came after years of personal and legal battles that left me questioning my ability to succeed. Overcoming these doubts required confronting feelings of inadequacy and imposter syndrome, particularly as an adult learner among younger peers. Each academic achievement, no matter how small, has helped rebuild my confidence and strengthen my resolve to keep going. Advocating for myself and my son has also presented unique challenges. Navigating a legal battle to reunite my family has required me to become well-versed in the intricacies of the system, leaving little room for error or delay. Balancing this with my studies has been exhausting, but I remind myself daily that my perseverance will set an example for my son about the power of determination and education. Despite these challenges, returning to school has been one of the most empowering decisions of my life. It has reignited my passion for learning and reinforced my belief in the importance of education as a tool for change. These obstacles have taught me the value of time management, resilience, and the unwavering support of my loved ones. Every day I spend in class brings me closer to my dream of building a career in politics, where I can advocate for families and reform systems that perpetuate inequity. Returning to school has been a journey filled with challenges, but it has also been a testament to my determination to create a better future for myself and my family. Each hurdle I overcome strengthens my resolve, reminding me that with persistence and hope, anything is possible.
