Hey! I’m from Texas with big dreams and a passion for beauty. My ultimate goal is to become a cosmetologist—hair is my love language, and I live for the creative freedom it gives me. When I’m not behind the chair, you’ll catch me dancing, which is another one of my passions. I’ve been to a few beauty schools already, but life threw some curveballs, and I had to withdraw due to financial reasons. No matter what, I keep coming back because I’m determined to make this dream a reality. I'm ready to put in the work, and any help that gets me closer to my goals would mean the world to me!

    Second Chance Scholarship
Unstoppable: My Journey to Achieving My Cosmetology Dreams Change is necessary when you refuse to give up on something you truly love. I want to make a change in my life because cosmetology is my passion and my purpose, and I know that once I become licensed, I will be able to build a stable and fulfilling career doing what I love—helping people feel confident and beautiful. My journey hasn’t been easy. I first started cosmetology as a junior in high school, excited to learn and develop my skills. But shortly after, I lost my brother, and my world fell apart. Grief changed me in ways I didn’t expect—my grades dropped, my behavior shifted, and I struggled to stay focused. As a result, I was dropped from the program. Losing my brother was one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced, but I never lost sight of my dream. Despite the setbacks, I never gave up. Over the last couple of years, I’ve enrolled in several different cosmetology schools, determined to complete my education. But each time, financial barriers forced me to withdraw after about a month. Even with federal aid, my out-of-pocket costs were simply too much for me to afford. Still, I refused to quit. I continued applying to schools, looking for scholarships, and working whenever I could to save money for tuition. Each time I had to step away from school, it was heartbreaking, but I reminded myself that this was only temporary. Every setback was just another test of how badly I wanted this. This scholarship would be life-changing for me. It would give me the financial support I need to finally complete my education without the constant fear of having to drop out due to tuition costs. For years, I have fought to stay in school, but money has always been the obstacle standing in my way. With this scholarship, I can finally break that cycle and focus entirely on learning and refining my skills. Not only will this scholarship help me earn my cosmetology license, but it will also allow me to start my career with confidence and stability. Once I have my license, I will be able to build a successful future doing what I love—helping others feel beautiful, confident, and empowered. I know what it’s like to struggle, to feel like your dreams are just out of reach because of financial barriers. That’s why, once I establish myself in the cosmetology industry, I want to pay it forward by helping others who are in the same position I was in. I plan to offer mentorship and guidance to aspiring cosmetologists, especially young women who might not have the support or resources to pursue their dreams. Whether it’s through offering free workshops, giving advice, or even providing financial assistance when I’m in the position to do so, I want to help others overcome the same struggles I faced. Additionally, I want to offer free or low-cost beauty services to those in need—whether it’s job seekers needing a professional haircut for an interview or survivors of domestic violence looking for a fresh start. I believe beauty is a powerful tool for self-confidence, and I want to use my skills to help others feel their best. I refuse to give up on my dream. No matter how many obstacles I’ve faced, I have continued pushing forward, and I will keep fighting until I am licensed. This scholarship would finally give me the opportunity to turn my passion into a career, build a stable future, and help others along the way

Turning Passion into Purpose: My Story and Dreams for the Future My name is Amaya, and my story is one of resilience, passion, and the desire to uplift others through beauty. From a young age, I found joy in the world of cosmetology, inspired by my great-grandmother, Beverly, who owned both a barbershop and a nail and hair salon. She wasn’t just a hairstylist—she was someone who made people feel beautiful, confident, and valued. Watching her work, I realized that beauty is more than just appearance; it’s about self-expression, healing, and empowerment. My journey hasn’t been without hardship. Growing up with a single mother, I saw firsthand the struggles of financial instability and hard work. My mother sacrificed so much to give me a better life, and her strength became the foundation of my own perseverance. However, the most challenging moments of my life came with loss. I lost my great-grandmother when I was 12, and just before my 17th birthday, I lost my brother. These experiences shattered me, leaving me to battle depression and anxiety. It was difficult to find purpose in the pain, but through it all, I discovered that beauty and self-care became my escape, my therapy, and ultimately, my passion. When I styled my hair, experimented with makeup, or helped friends feel confident through small beauty transformations, I felt a sense of purpose. I realized that I could turn this passion into a career that not only supports me but also allows me to help others feel good about themselves. That’s why I’m pursuing a career in cosmetology—it’s not just a trade, but a way to connect with and uplift people, especially those who may need it the most. Dreams for My Future My biggest dream is to own my own salon, a space where everyone—regardless of background, financial situation, or personal struggles—can feel valued and beautiful. I want to create an environment that empowers people through beauty. Whether it’s styling someone’s hair for an important job interview, offering a makeover to a survivor of domestic violence, or providing free beauty services for those in need, I want my salon to be more than just a business—it will be a place of transformation and self-confidence. Beyond owning a salon, I dream of mentoring young women who are interested in cosmetology but may not have the support or resources to pursue it. Many people underestimate the trades, but I want to show others that cosmetology is a career that provides independence, creativity, and the ability to make a real impact. Why I’m Passionate About Fulfilling My Dreams I am passionate about making my dreams a reality because I know the power of beauty and self-care. I have experienced firsthand how small acts of self-love can change your mindset, your confidence, and even your outlook on life. When I lost my brother and great-grandmother, I felt lost myself, but beauty gave me a way to heal and find purpose. Now, I want to give that same gift to others. This scholarship will help me take the next step toward fulfilling my dreams. With a strong education in cosmetology, I will have the skills and knowledge needed to build a successful career, make a difference in my community, and turn my passion into a lifelong mission. Cosmetology isn’t just about hair, makeup, or nails—it’s about helping people see the beauty in themselves, even when they don’t feel it. That is why I am so determined to follow this path, and why I will work tirelessly to make my dreams a reality.

Passion, Purpose, and the Power of Beauty My name is Amaya, and I am pursuing a career in cosmetology because I believe beauty has the power to transform lives. From a young age, I have been passionate about hair, makeup, and skincare, but my love for this field goes beyond aesthetics—it’s about confidence, self-expression, and empowerment. I grew up with a single mother who worked hard to provide for me, and my great-grandmother, Beverly, was a hairstylist and salon owner who inspired me to follow in her footsteps. She showed me that cosmetology isn’t just about making people look good—it’s about making them feel good. Life has not always been easy. I lost my great-grandmother when I was 12 and my brother just before I turned 17. These losses deeply impacted me, and I struggled with depression and anxiety. During those difficult times, I found solace in beauty and self-care. Doing my hair, experimenting with makeup, and learning new techniques gave me a sense of purpose and control when everything else felt uncertain. I realized that beauty is more than skin deep—it’s a form of healing, a way to regain confidence, and a tool for self-empowerment. Making a Positive Impact Through My Career I want to use my cosmetology skills to make a difference in people’s lives, just as my great-grandmother did. My long-term goal is to open my own salon, not just as a place for beauty services but as a safe, welcoming space where people feel valued and uplifted. I plan to make a positive impact in several ways: 1. Providing Affordable Beauty Services to Those in Need - Many people cannot afford regular haircuts, styling, or skincare treatments, yet these small acts of self-care can significantly boost confidence. I want to offer free or low-cost services to those who need them most, such as low-income individuals, job seekers, and survivors of domestic violence. A fresh haircut or a makeover can be life-changing for someone trying to rebuild their life. 2. Supporting Mental Health Through Beauty and Self-Care - I know from personal experience that when you look good, you often *feel* better. I want to work with organizations that support mental health awareness and offer beauty sessions for individuals struggling with self-esteem, depression, or anxiety. Small moments of self-care can be incredibly healing. 3. Mentoring and Encouraging Young Women in the Beauty Industry - Many young people don’t realize the opportunities available in trade careers. I want to mentor and encourage young women to pursue careers in cosmetology, showing them that they can build successful, fulfilling futures in the beauty industry. Through workshops, internships, and hands-on training, I hope to inspire the next generation of hairstylists, makeup artists, and beauty professionals. 4. Building a Community of Positivity and Empowerment - I want my future salon to be more than just a place for beauty—it will be a place where people can feel comfortable, celebrated, and heard. Whether it’s a client going through a tough time or someone needing a confidence boost before a big life event, I want to be the person who helps them feel their best. Cosmetology is not just my career—it is my passion and my purpose. This scholarship will help me gain the education and skills I need to bring my vision to life. With dedication and hard work, I will use my trade to spread confidence, kindness, and empowerment to everyone I meet.

Pursuing Cosmetology: My Path to Empowerment and Giving Back I am pursuing an education in cosmetology, a trade that has been close to my heart for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was inspired by my great-grandmother, Beverly, who owned her own barbershop and later a nail and hair salon. She wasn’t just a business owner—she was someone who made people feel beautiful, confident, and valued. Her passion for cosmetology left a lasting impression on me, and I knew from a young age that I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Cosmetology is more than just cutting hair or applying makeup; it is an art form and a way to connect with people. I love how a simple haircut, a new hairstyle, or a fresh set of nails can completely change how someone feels about themselves. Beauty has the power to uplift, and I want to use my skills to help people look and feel their best. Goals and Dreams for the Future My ultimate dream is to open my own salon, where I can provide high-quality beauty services while also giving back to my community. I want to create a space that is welcoming to everyone, especially those who may not have access to self-care services due to financial hardships. One of my biggest goals is to offer affordable or free beauty services to those in need, including job seekers, survivors of domestic violence, and individuals struggling with mental health challenges. I know firsthand how powerful self-care can be, especially during difficult times. After experiencing loss and battling anxiety and depression, I found that engaging in beauty routines gave me a sense of purpose and healing. I want to share that same sense of comfort and confidence with others. Additionally, I plan to mentor young women who are interested in cosmetology and the beauty industry. Many people don’t realize the opportunities available in trade careers, and I want to encourage others—especially young women—to pursue careers that allow them to be financially independent while doing something they love. Plans After Graduation After completing my cosmetology program, my first step will be to gain experience working in a salon to refine my skills and learn the business side of the industry. I want to build strong relationships with clients and gain firsthand knowledge of salon management, customer service, and advanced beauty techniques. While working in a salon, I also plan to attend business and entrepreneurship workshops to prepare myself for eventually opening my own salon. I want to ensure that when the time comes, I have the skills and knowledge to run a successful business that aligns with my mission of making beauty services accessible to all. Once I have the experience and resources, I will take the leap and open my own salon, focusing not only on beauty services but also on community outreach. I envision hosting workshops on self-care, offering donation-based services for those in need, and creating a positive, uplifting environment for every client who walks through the doors. Cosmetology is more than just a trade for me—it’s my passion and my future. This career will allow me to support myself while making a meaningful impact on others. With hard work, dedication, and the support of scholarships like this one, I know I can turn my dreams into reality.

The Strength of My Mother and the Future I’m Building Growing up with a single mother taught me resilience, determination, and the value of hard work. My mother was my first example of strength—someone who never gave up, no matter how difficult life became. She worked tirelessly to provide for me, making sacrifices so I could have opportunities she never did. Watching her push through struggles, often putting her own needs last, shaped me into the person I am today. One of the most defining memories I have of my mother is from when I was about ten years old. Money was tight, and despite working long hours, she still found time to be present in my life. I remember one night when I was feeling down because I couldn’t afford to participate in a school event like some of my classmates. Instead of letting me dwell on what I didn’t have, my mom sat me down and told me, “You don’t need to have everything to be somebody. Your strength, kindness, and determination will take you further than money ever could.” That lesson stuck with me. She taught me that success isn’t about where you start but about how you push forward. Her influence became even more important when I faced some of the hardest moments of my life. Losing my great-grandmother at 12 and my brother just before my 17th birthday left me feeling lost and overwhelmed. Through it all, my mother was there, supporting me even when she was grieving too. She reminded me that I had a purpose and that I could turn my pain into something meaningful. It was her unwavering support that helped me find my passion for cosmetology. My great-grandmother was a hairstylist, and my mother often shared stories about how she made people feel beautiful and confident. Those stories, combined with my own love for beauty, inspired me to follow in her footsteps. But more than just styling hair, I realized that cosmetology was a way to connect with people—to give them a moment of self-care, confidence, and joy. My mother always told me, “If you’re going to do something, do it with heart,” and that’s exactly how I approach my future career. Building My Future with This Scholarship This scholarship would be life-changing for me. It would allow me to complete my cosmetology education without the burden of financial stress, giving me the chance to fully focus on honing my skills. More importantly, it would allow me to give back in the way my mother taught me—by using my talents to help others. I plan to use my training to provide beauty services to those who might not otherwise afford them. Whether it’s giving free haircuts to job seekers, offering beauty treatments to survivors of domestic violence, or simply making someone feel special for a day, I want to use my skills to uplift others. My long-term goal is to open a salon that not only offers professional services but also serves as a safe and welcoming space for people to feel valued and empowered. Everything I’ve learned from my mother—her strength, kindness, and determination—is what I carry into my future. This scholarship is not just an investment in my education; it’s an investment in the positive change I hope to bring to my community.

Pursuing a Career in the Trades and Making a Difference Choosing a career in the trades, specifically cosmetology, was not just a decision—it was a calling. From a young age, I was drawn to the beauty industry, inspired by my great-grandmother, Beverly, who owned both a barbershop and a nail and hair salon. Watching her transform people’s appearances and boost their confidence showed me that cosmetology is more than just a trade—it’s a way to uplift others. Beyond inspiration, my choice to pursue this path comes from my own personal experiences. Growing up with a single mother, I saw firsthand how financial struggles can make self-care feel like a luxury. I also battled depression and anxiety, particularly after losing my great-grandmother at 12 and my brother just before my 17th birthday. Those losses left me feeling lost, but I found healing in beauty—both in practicing it and in seeing the joy it brought to others. A simple haircut, a fresh style, or a well-done set of nails can boost someone’s self-esteem and even change their outlook on life. Cosmetology is a trade that allows me to connect with people in a personal and meaningful way. I love the idea of having a skill that is both creative and impactful, one that helps people feel confident and beautiful. It’s also a career that provides stability, growth opportunities, and the ability to be my own boss one day. The trades, especially cosmetology, offer hands-on work, financial independence, and the chance to make a direct impact on my community—something I deeply value. Social Causes I Care About One of the biggest social causes I care about is mental health awareness, particularly in young people and those who have experienced grief. Losing my loved ones was incredibly difficult, and I know how isolating it can feel. Many people struggle in silence because of the stigma surrounding mental health. I want to use my platform as a cosmetologist to create safe spaces for people to open up, feel heard, and experience self-care as a form of healing. I also want to support mental health initiatives that provide therapy, crisis support, and education about coping strategies. Another cause I’m passionate about is helping low-income individuals access self-care services. Many people, especially those struggling financially, don’t have the means to visit a salon or take time for themselves. However, everyone deserves to feel good about themselves, regardless of their financial situation. I plan to give back by offering free or low-cost beauty services to those in need—whether it’s styling hair for job interviews, providing makeovers for survivors of domestic violence, or simply helping someone feel special. Beauty can be empowering, and I want to ensure it’s accessible to all. Additionally, I care deeply about women’s empowerment and career opportunities in the trades. Many young women don’t realize how rewarding and viable trade careers can be. I want to be an advocate for women in the beauty industry and beyond, encouraging them to pursue careers that bring them fulfillment and financial independence. Cosmetology is more than just a career for me—it’s a way to make a difference. Through my work, I hope to uplift others, support mental health awareness, and provide services that help people feel confident and valued. This scholarship will allow me to turn my passion into a career that not only benefits me but also gives back to my community in a meaningful way.
    Special Delivery of Dreams Scholarship
Overcoming Life’s Challenges and Giving Back Through Cosmetology Life has presented me with challenges that have shaped who I am today. Growing up with a single mother, I witnessed firsthand the strength and resilience it takes to overcome hardships. However, the most defining struggles in my life have been the losses of two of my closest family members—my great-grandmother, Beverly, when I was 12, and my brother, just weeks before my 17th birthday. These losses deeply impacted my mental health, leading to struggles with depression and anxiety. My great-grandmother was not just a beloved family member but also my inspiration. She owned a barbershop and later a nail and hair salon, which fueled my passion for cosmetology. Losing her left a void in my heart, but I found comfort in the memories we shared, particularly those related to beauty and self-care. When my brother passed away, my world shattered again. It felt impossible to move forward, but I discovered that working with hair and beauty gave me a sense of purpose. The ability to make someone feel beautiful, even for a moment, became my way of healing. This scholarship will provide me with the opportunity to turn my passion into a career and, more importantly, give back to my community. I want to offer affordable beauty services to those who may not have access to professional hair and skincare treatments. Many people, especially in underserved communities, lack the resources for self-care, which can significantly affect confidence and self-esteem. I dream of creating a space where people can feel valued and beautiful, just as my great-grandmother did in her salons. Additionally, I want to use my skills to support individuals dealing with grief, mental health struggles, and major life transitions. A fresh haircut or a simple beauty treatment can boost confidence and provide a sense of renewal. I also hope to participate in community outreach programs, offering free or discounted services to those in need, such as low-income families, individuals seeking employment, and survivors of domestic violence. This scholarship will allow me to complete my cosmetology education and make a meaningful difference in people's lives. As for philately—the study and collection of postage stamps—I would encourage young people to engage in this hobby by connecting it to storytelling and history. In today’s digital age, where everything is instant and online, collecting stamps can provide a tangible link to the past. Schools and community centers could organize stamp exchange events or themed exhibitions showcasing historical moments through stamps. Social media can also play a role by highlighting unique stamp designs, their historical significance, and even interactive challenges for young collectors. Furthermore, philately can be integrated into educational programs to make history and geography more engaging. A simple exercise, such as matching a stamp to its country and learning about its cultural significance, could spark curiosity. Partnering with postal services to create youth-friendly stamp collections or offering rewards for creative stamp albums could also make the hobby more appealing. While philately may seem like a niche interest, it holds the power to connect generations, teach valuable lessons, and preserve history. By making it more interactive and accessible, young people can develop an appreciation for this unique and educational pastime. Through my own journey of overcoming hardships and pursuing my passion for cosmetology, I have learned that every challenge presents an opportunity to grow. This scholarship will help me bring beauty, confidence, and empowerment to my community, just as my great-grandmother once did.
    Bear Fan Scholarship
The perfect ending to *The Bear* would be a combination of resolution, growth, and the hard-won success of the characters as they continue navigating their personal and professional challenges. For Carmy, the main character who’s striving to bring order to chaos in his family's restaurant, it would be about achieving the balance he’s longed for between his ambition and his emotional healing. He’d have learned to manage the restaurant successfully, creating a more sustainable, structured operation, but with a healthy work-life balance. He’d finally heal the rift with his family, particularly his sister, and get a sense of peace about his past. If Carmy takes a step forward in his relationship with Sydney—working together more harmoniously—there could even be a potential romantic development, but the focus would be more on mutual respect and growth rather than rushing into anything. Sydney’s own journey would be fulfilling, too. Her trajectory would find her achieving her goals, both professionally and personally, as she starts to come into her own as a chef. In this perfect ending, Sydney might even venture off to start her own project, a restaurant or something else that speaks to her vision, but not without acknowledging how the experience at The Original Beef shaped her. Her relationship with Carmy would remain strong, rooted in respect, mentorship, and shared growth, as they continue to learn from each other. For Richie, the character who often struggles with his role and purpose, a perfect conclusion would involve him finding a clearer sense of direction. While he may never be the most polished, Richie’s loyalty and hard work would eventually be recognized, and he could carve out a role for himself within the restaurant or even venture out to create something of his own. His growth would come from finding a sense of purpose beyond the chaos and connecting more with his emotions, showing that even the roughest characters can experience growth and stability. Tina and Marcus would also find their own resolutions. Tina’s continued rise through the restaurant would involve her gaining more confidence in her skills and perhaps being promoted to a more significant leadership role. Marcus, with his passion for baking, could see his talents recognized, perhaps opening a bakery or working in a renowned pastry kitchen. The ending would also involve moments of reconciliation with family members, especially Carmy’s strained relationship with his late father’s legacy. The entire crew could stand together in a moment of accomplishment, symbolizing the success not just of the restaurant but of their personal journeys and growth. The last scene would be one of bittersweet success—Carmy, Sydney, and the team standing outside their restaurant, now a symbol of the hard-fought victory, knowing they’ve made it through the toughest times but still have a long way to go. It would be a perfect blend of triumph and realism, showing that success is often a complicated, non-linear journey.

    Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
Billie Eilish has a unique ability to capture deep emotions and complex feelings in her music, making her one of the most influential artists of our generation. Her songs are hauntingly beautiful, introspective, and emotionally resonant. While I love many of her songs, my top three favorites are "you should see me in a crown," "ocean eyes," and "lovely." Each of these tracks resonates with me in different but equally profound ways. "you should see me in a crown" is an anthem of empowerment and confidence. The song’s dark, pulsating beat and eerie lyrics create an atmosphere of strength and dominance. Whenever I listen to it, I feel an overwhelming sense of self-assurance, as if I can take on any challenge that comes my way. The song reminds me that power comes from within, and that I am capable of achieving anything when I embrace my strengths. Billie’s whispery vocals combined with the intense production make this track one of her most dynamic and electrifying pieces, and it never fails to boost my confidence. "ocean eyes" is a song that touches my heart in a completely different way. This track introduced Billie to the world, and its dreamy, melancholic sound is absolutely mesmerizing. The lyrics describe longing and deep emotional connection, which is something I have experienced in my own life. Every time I listen to "ocean eyes," I feel a wave of nostalgia and emotion wash over me. The softness of Billie’s voice combined with the ethereal instrumental makes this song a deeply personal and introspective experience. It reminds me of moments in my life where I’ve felt vulnerable yet deeply connected to someone or something. "lovely," a collaboration with Khalid, is one of the most emotionally charged songs I have ever heard. This song perfectly captures the feeling of being trapped in one’s own emotions while trying to find hope. Both Billie and Khalid’s voices blend together seamlessly, creating a hauntingly beautiful soundscape. The lyrics, “Isn’t it lovely, all alone?” speak to feelings of isolation and struggle, which I have personally related to during difficult times. However, there is also an underlying sense of resilience in the song that reminds me that even in the darkest moments, there is hope and strength to be found. "lovely" has been a source of comfort for me, reminding me that I am not alone in my struggles. Each of these songs speaks to different aspects of my personality and emotions. "you should see me in a crown" gives me confidence and power, "ocean eyes" taps into my sentimental and reflective side, and "lovely" acknowledges the struggles I’ve faced while offering a sense of solace. Billie Eilish’s music has a way of making listeners feel seen and understood, and these three songs, in particular, have had a profound impact on me. They serve as reminders of strength, vulnerability, and resilience—qualities that shape who I am today.
    Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
I have been a fan of Sabrina Carpenter for years, and her career has had a significant impact on me both personally and creatively. From her early days on Disney Channel to her evolution as a singer-songwriter and actress, Sabrina has consistently shown growth, resilience, and authenticity. Her journey inspires me because she has never been afraid to reinvent herself, explore different artistic avenues, and stay true to who she is, despite the pressures of the entertainment industry. One of the things I admire most about Sabrina is her ability to connect with her audience through her music. Her lyrics are deeply personal, often touching on themes of love, self-discovery, and resilience. Songs like "because i liked a boy" and "emails i can't send" reveal her vulnerability and honesty, which makes her music incredibly relatable. Listening to her songs has helped me navigate my own emotions and experiences, providing a sense of comfort and understanding during difficult times. Beyond her music, Sabrina’s work ethic and determination are truly inspiring. She has successfully transitioned from being a child actress to a respected musician and performer, proving that she is not limited to one lane. Watching her grow into a confident artist who takes creative risks encourages me to pursue my own passions fearlessly. Her ability to balance acting, singing, and songwriting while continuing to evolve artistically is a testament to her dedication and talent. Sabrina Carpenter’s career has also impacted my self-confidence. She embraces who she is and doesn’t shy away from expressing herself, whether through her music, fashion, or personality. Seeing her unapologetically embrace her individuality has encouraged me to do the same. Her positive attitude and ability to turn challenges into opportunities remind me that setbacks are just stepping stones toward success. Overall, Sabrina Carpenter is more than just an artist to me—she is a role model who has influenced my perspective on perseverance, creativity, and self-expression. Her career has shown me that it is possible to grow and evolve while staying true to oneself, and for that, I will always admire and support her.

One of my favorite book-to-film adaptations is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. This story resonated deeply with me because of its emotional depth and the way it portrays love, loss, and resilience. When I first read the book, I was captivated by Hazel and Augustus’ journey, their witty conversations, and the raw, honest way they faced their struggles. The novel made me laugh, cry, and reflect on the fragility of life, leaving a lasting impact on my heart. When the film adaptation was released, I was both excited and nervous. Often, movies struggle to capture the essence of a book, but this adaptation exceeded my expectations. Seeing the characters I had connected with so deeply come to life on screen was an emotional experience. The film stayed true to the novel’s themes, preserving its heartfelt moments while visually enhancing the storytelling. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort’s performances brought an authenticity to Hazel and Augustus that made their love story even more compelling. What made this adaptation special to me was how it bridged the gap between reading and viewing by maintaining the book’s emotional integrity. The use of direct quotes from the novel helped keep the essence of John Green’s writing alive, and the cinematography beautifully complemented the mood of the story. Seeing key moments—like the trip to Amsterdam, Hazel and Augustus’ intimate conversation in the Anne Frank House, or the heartbreaking eulogy scene—on screen made the emotions feel even more profound. The use of music and lighting further amplified the emotional impact, making the viewing experience deeply immersive. Additionally, the adaptation allowed me to see the story from a new perspective. While reading, I had imagined certain scenes in my own way, but watching them unfold visually added layers to my understanding of the characters' emotions. The way the film captured Hazel's pain, Augustus’ charm, and their shared vulnerability helped me connect with their experiences in a different but equally powerful way. The visual storytelling complemented the novel’s depth, giving it new life and making the message of love and resilience even more poignant. This adaptation reinforced my love for storytelling in both literature and film. It reminded me that while books allow readers to imagine and interpret characters in their own way, films can add new dimensions to a story through performances, visuals, and music. The Fault in Our Stars remains special to me because it successfully translated the power of words into a visual experience, making the story’s message of love, hope, and resilience even more impactful. It bridged the gap between imagination and reality, demonstrating how both mediums can work together to enhance the essence of a beautiful story. This experience has deepened my appreciation for adaptations and the art of storytelling, inspiring me to explore narratives in different forms

Losing my great-grandmother, Beverly, was the first moment in my life that truly shook my faith. She was not just my family; she was my inspiration. She owned her own barbershop and a nail and hair salon, showing me from an early age the power of hard work and passion. When she passed away, I felt lost. The faith I once had slipped away, and I didn’t know how to find my way back. Then, just weeks before my seventeenth birthday, I lost my brother. That loss broke me in ways I didn’t think were possible. The pain was unbearable, and I found myself questioning everything. But in that darkness, something stirred inside me—a desire to find hope again. I realized that the only way to get through my grief was to rebuild my faith. I started searching for a church where I could belong, and when I found my church home, it was as if a missing piece of my heart had been restored. I have been working hard to strengthen my relationship with God ever since because I now understand that I can do all things through Him. My faith has become my anchor, and I know it will guide me in my career as a cosmetologist. I believe that beauty is more than just how someone looks on the outside—it’s about how they feel on the inside. When someone sits in my chair, I want them to leave not only looking great but feeling uplifted and confident. I know firsthand how important it is to have someone make you feel seen, valued, and cared for, especially in times of hardship. My faith teaches me to be kind, patient, and compassionate, and I want to carry those values into my work every single day. Additionally, my faith gives me the perseverance to chase my dreams, even when challenges arise. There will be difficult days, setbacks, and moments of doubt, but I trust that God has a plan for me. He has carried me through my darkest times, and I know He will continue to walk with me as I build my career. Just as my great-grandmother once created a welcoming space where people felt beautiful and cared for, I hope to do the same. I believe that through faith, love, and dedication, I can turn my passion into a career that truly makes a difference in people’s lives. Losing the people I love the most has been heartbreaking, but through those losses, I have found my way back to God. My faith is now my foundation, and I know it will continue to guide me as I step into the world of cosmetology, ready to spread light, beauty, and love to everyone I meet.

Growing up in a single-parent household has shaped my educational journey in many ways. My mom raised me with a deep sense of resilience and work ethic, even though she had limited financial resources. She worked tirelessly to provide for me, making sure I had what I needed to succeed. While there were sacrifices—like not being able to afford vacations or extracurricular activities—my mom always emphasized the importance of education and hard work. Seeing her balance the responsibilities of raising me on her own taught me that no challenge is insurmountable as long as you stay focused and keep pushing forward. Because I didn’t have the same financial advantages that some of my peers had, I learned early on how to be resourceful. I took advantage of every opportunity to apply for scholarships, grants, and financial aid, always seeking ways to minimize the financial burden of school. The experience of being self-sufficient while my mom worked hard for our family has pushed me to keep going, even when things get tough. I knew that I had to be persistent in my education to make a better life for myself and eventually support my family. My educational journey hasn’t always been smooth, and I’ve faced challenges along the way. There have been times when financial hardships forced me to withdraw from programs, but I always came back stronger and more determined. Through it all, my goal has been to achieve a career that allows me to give back to my mom for all the sacrifices she made for me. My dream of becoming a licensed cosmetologist is deeply tied to my desire to honor her sacrifices. I want to be able to support her and provide her with the stability she deserves, just as she provided for me. Looking ahead, I plan to give back to my community by using my career in cosmetology to empower others. I want to create an inclusive space where people not only receive beauty services but also feel seen and valued. I’ve seen firsthand how important it is for people to feel good about themselves, especially when life’s challenges can make them feel invisible. I want to offer affordable services to those in need, particularly for individuals from low-income backgrounds who might not have access to high-end salons. Additionally, I hope to mentor young people, especially those from single-parent households or underrepresented communities, to help them see the possibilities for their future and encourage them to pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles they face. In conclusion, growing up in a single-parent household has shaped my educational journey by teaching me resilience, the importance of hard work, and the need to persevere through challenges. I plan to give back to my community by creating a space that uplifts others, providing opportunities for empowerment through beauty services, and offering mentorship to young people striving for success. I’m determined to turn my dreams into reality, not just for myself, but for my family and the community around me.

Joe Gilroy "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan" Scholarship
My primary goal is to become a licensed cosmetologist, a career I’ve been passionate about since I was young. Inspired by my great-grandmother, Beverly, who ran her own barber shop and beauty salon, I want to continue her legacy and create a space where people can feel confident and beautiful. My path involves enrolling in a reputable cosmetology program, completing my training, obtaining my license, and building a successful career in the beauty industry. The first step in my plan is to secure funding for tuition, which ranges from $10,000 to $15,000 for a full program. I’ve already saved some money from working multiple jobs, but I will need additional financial assistance to cover the remaining costs. To achieve this, I’m applying for scholarships, grants, and low-interest loans designed for vocational training. I plan to allocate approximately $6,000 of my savings toward the first year’s tuition, and I’m hopeful that scholarships will cover the rest. In addition to tuition, I’ll need to account for textbooks, hairdressing tools, and uniforms, which will cost around $1,000 to $1,500. Once I’ve completed my training, I’ll take the necessary exams to obtain my cosmetology license, which generally costs between $100 and $200. After receiving my license, I plan to work as a stylist in a salon to gain experience. I understand that I may have to start with lower-paying positions, but I’m willing to do this to build my reputation and client base. Over time, I’ll continue to expand my skills by taking advanced courses in specialized areas like hair coloring and styling. My long-term goal is to open my own salon. This has been a dream of mine for years, as it would allow me to offer affordable services to clients and create a positive, inclusive environment. To fund the salon, I plan to seek small business loans or grants for entrepreneurs. I’ve already started researching resources available for new business owners and will budget for expenses like renting a space, purchasing equipment, and covering operational costs for the first few months. The timing of my plan depends on securing financial aid to enroll in cosmetology school, completing my training (which will take approximately 18 months), and finding a job after graduation. I anticipate it will take an additional 1-2 years to gain enough experience to open my salon. While pursuing this, I’ll stay flexible and continue to build a strong network of clients and professional relationships. In summary, my goals are to complete my cosmetology program, obtain my license, gain experience as a stylist, and eventually open my own salon. My plan includes applying for scholarships and financial aid, budgeting for my education and career expenses, and staying determined to achieve my dream despite challenges. I’m confident that with hard work and perseverance, I can turn my vision into reality.
    Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
My experiences with mental health have deeply influenced my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. Growing up, I didn’t fully understand the weight of depression and anxiety until I started experiencing them myself, starting after the loss of my great-grandmother, Beverly, when I was just 12 years old. At that young age, I felt as though I lost not only a loved one but also a sense of stability in my world. The grief triggered deep feelings of sadness and anxiety, and for the first time, I found myself grappling with emotions that I didn’t know how to handle. As I navigated my teenage years, especially after the loss of my older brother just before my 17th birthday, I became more aware of how mental health can shape every aspect of your life. It’s not just something that affects how you feel—it shapes your interactions with the world, your ability to connect with others, and even your dreams and ambitions. I learned that mental health isn’t something you can “push through” alone. Through therapy, medication, and support from my family, I’ve learned how to manage my mental health, but I also realized that it’s an ongoing process. One of the biggest beliefs I’ve developed through my experience is the importance of self-compassion. I learned that being kind to myself and recognizing that it’s okay to not always be okay has been crucial to my healing. For years, I felt guilty for struggling, thinking that others might see me as weak or incapable. But through my mental health journey, I’ve come to believe that asking for help and prioritizing your mental well-being is a strength, not a weakness. This has been a fundamental shift in how I view myself and how I approach life in general. In my relationships, my experiences have made me more empathetic and understanding toward others. I can relate to feeling overwhelmed and alone, and as a result, I strive to be a support system for those around me. Whether it’s family, friends, or even people I meet in my community, I’ve learned the importance of listening, showing kindness, and being there for others during their tough times. I try to be open about my own mental health struggles because I believe in the power of vulnerability and connection. I want to normalize the conversation around mental health so that others don’t feel ashamed to seek the help they need. In terms of my career aspirations, my journey with mental health has played a significant role in shaping my path. Losing my great-grandmother and brother pushed me to continue pursuing my dream of becoming a licensed cosmetologist. They were both sources of inspiration for me, and I feel a responsibility to honor their memories by achieving my goals. I want to provide beauty services that not only help people look good but also feel good about themselves. Beauty has a powerful way of boosting confidence, and I want to be a part of that process for others. In addition to helping others with their outward appearance, I want to create a safe space for my clients—an environment where they feel heard and supported, especially those who may be dealing with their own mental health challenges. I want to use my own story to inspire others to take care of themselves, to open up about their struggles, and to seek help when they need it. Ultimately, I hope that my career in cosmetology can serve as both a creative outlet and a way to contribute positively to people’s lives. Whether it’s offering a listening ear during a haircut or creating a space where clients can feel at ease, I see beauty as an opportunity to uplift others in both physical and emotional ways. In conclusion, my experience with mental health has deeply influenced the person I am today. It has shaped my beliefs around self-compassion and vulnerability, strengthened my relationships with others, and fueled my passion for a career that can make a positive impact on people’s lives. As I continue my journey in recovery and pursue my goals in cosmetology, I will carry these lessons with me and aim to help others find strength in their own journeys, just as I have learned to do.
    Ella's Gift
Growing up, I always had a strong sense of hope and happiness, but everything changed when I lost my great-grandmother, Beverly, at the age of 12. She had been a constant in my life, a role model, and someone I admired deeply. She ran her own barber shop and beauty salon, and it was from her that I developed my passion for cosmetology. I wanted nothing more than to follow in her footsteps. But her death left me devastated and ignited a battle with depression and anxiety that I would face for years to come. At first, I didn’t recognize what I was going through. I felt a deep sadness and overwhelming anxiety that I couldn’t escape. I didn’t understand why I had no energy, motivation, or joy in the things I once loved. As I got older, I came to realize that I was struggling with clinical depression and anxiety. With support from my family and therapy, I began medicating for both, and I started to see progress. Although the path hasn’t been easy, I’ve learned to better manage my mental health. A few years ago, I faced another significant loss when my older brother passed away just weeks before my 17th birthday. Losing him was another painful blow that deepened my grief and made it harder to cope. My anxiety worsened, and I found myself struggling to focus on school and my goals. During this time, I felt utterly overwhelmed by sadness and doubt. However, in reflecting on my brother and my great-grandmother, I realized they wouldn’t want me to give up. Their support throughout my life had always encouraged me to keep moving forward, and I knew I had to honor their memories by continuing my education and pursuing my dreams. My struggles with mental health, loss, and personal growth have fueled my determination to become a licensed cosmetologist. My great-grandmother and my brother were two of my biggest sources of support and inspiration, and now, my career in beauty is something I’m doing for them. I want to make them proud by achieving my goals and by continuing the legacy of kindness, hard work, and beauty they each embodied. I also want to support my mother, who has sacrificed so much to give me everything I needed growing up. I hope that by building a successful career in cosmetology, I can give back to her for everything she’s done. Despite the setbacks I’ve faced, I continue to push forward. I’ve worked multiple jobs to save for my education and applied for scholarships to fund my cosmetology training. Though financial struggles have forced me to withdraw from beauty schools in the past, my determination remains unwavering. I’m focused on my dream of becoming a licensed cosmetologist, and I’m committed to doing whatever it takes to get there. Managing my mental health remains an ongoing priority. I’ve learned that self-care is crucial for both my personal growth and career success. Therapy and medication have been key elements of my recovery, but I’ve also incorporated healthy habits such as exercise, meditation, and journaling into my daily routine. I’ve learned to recognize my triggers and use coping strategies that help me manage anxiety and depression. I know that mental health is an ongoing process, but I’m committed to continuing to work on it so I can achieve my dreams without being held back. As I continue to work toward becoming a licensed cosmetologist, I want to be transparent about my experiences with mental health. I believe sharing my story can help others who may be struggling to realize they are not alone. Once I’m licensed, I hope to create a welcoming and inclusive salon environment where people can feel both beautiful and supported. My long-term goal is to offer affordable services to people in my community and to mentor others interested in cosmetology. In conclusion, my journey through grief, mental health challenges, and recovery has shaped who I am today. It has taught me the value of resilience and the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity. I’m doing this for my great-grandmother, my brother, and for myself. Through my recovery and my future career in cosmetology, I hope to inspire others to pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles they face. I know I’m on the right path, and I’m committed to managing my mental health as I continue working toward my goals.

I am pursuing a career in cosmetology, and I am especially passionate about hair styling. Growing up, I was always fascinated by the transformative power of beauty. My great-grandmother, Beverly, was a huge influence in my life. She owned both a barber shop and a hair and nail salon, and I was always in awe of how she made people feel better about themselves through her work. Watching her change people’s lives, one cut at a time, inspired me to follow the same path. I realized that being a cosmetologist wasn’t just about creating beauty; it was about creating confidence. That’s what excites me the most about this field—the opportunity to not only help people look their best but also to make them feel their best. Hair styling, in particular, offers endless creativity and the ability to connect with people in a meaningful way. Whether it’s a client coming in for a new look or someone who needs a little self-esteem boost, I want to be the person who helps them feel empowered. After completing my cosmetology education, my future plans involve gaining experience as a stylist and eventually opening my own salon. I would love to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where everyone—regardless of their financial situation—can feel beautiful. My long-term goal is to offer affordable services, particularly to individuals in my community who may not have the financial means to visit expensive salons. I also hope to provide mentorship to those who come from backgrounds similar to mine, showing them that despite challenges, they can still pursue their dreams. One of my greatest motivations is to give back to my mom. Growing up in a single-parent household, my mom worked tirelessly to provide for me. She made sure I always had what I needed, even if it meant going without for herself. I want to be able to support her, repay her for everything she sacrificed, and give her the opportunities she never had. My passion for cosmetology is deeply rooted in my desire to not only achieve success for myself but to also improve the lives of those who have supported me along the way. Overcoming adversity has been a constant theme in my life, especially in relation to my pursuit of a cosmetology career. Growing up in a single-parent household with limited financial resources, there were many times when I faced obstacles that seemed insurmountable. One of the most significant challenges I’ve encountered was trying to attend beauty school. I’ve been to beauty schools in the past, but each time, I had to withdraw because I couldn’t afford the tuition. The financial burden was simply too much, and the idea of continuing my education felt like a constant uphill battle. However, rather than give up, I kept finding ways to push forward. I worked multiple jobs to save money, applied for scholarships, and explored alternative ways to fund my education. I refused to let financial setbacks stop me from pursuing my dream. I realized that resilience and perseverance were key to achieving my goals, and I learned how to stay focused on the bigger picture—becoming a licensed cosmetologist and giving back to those who have helped me along the way. Through this journey, I’ve learned that adversity doesn’t define you—it’s how you respond to challenges that shapes your path. Every setback I’ve faced has only made me more determined to continue moving forward. I know that the road to success isn’t always easy, but I’m committed to working hard, pushing through obstacles, and making my dream a reality.
    Lotus Scholarship
Growing up in a single-parent household, I learned the value of hard work and resilience. My mom worked tirelessly to provide for me, making sure I had everything I needed—food, clothes, and safety—though we didn’t have extra for things like vacations or daycare. My grandmother helped raise me and showed me the importance of perseverance and love. Because of our financial situation, I quickly learned that pursuing my dreams would take hard work and sacrifice. My mom always made sure I was okay, but she couldn’t afford things outside of necessities. This inspired me to work hard, push through challenges, and always make the best of what I had. One of my biggest motivations is to “pay my mom back” for everything she’s done. She’s sacrificed so much to give me a good life, and I want to achieve my dream of becoming a licensed cosmetologist so I can financially support her and give back to her. I want to give her the life she deserves after all her hard work. I’m actively working toward this goal by improving my skills in cosmetology and seeking out opportunities to fund my education, whether it’s working multiple jobs or applying for scholarships. Although I’ve had to withdraw from beauty schools in the past due to financial barriers, I’ve kept pushing forward. Once I earn my license, I plan to inspire others from similar backgrounds by showing them that they too can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. I also hope to offer affordable beauty services and mentor others who want to pursue a career in cosmetology.
James Lynn Baker II #BeACoffeeBean Scholarship
Throughout my life, I’ve always believed in the power of making others feel good about themselves. I’ve strived to create a positive and uplifting environment for those around me, whether it’s by offering a listening ear, lending a hand, or using my creativity to help others feel more confident. My passion for beauty and cosmetics has always been driven by the desire to make people feel seen, heard, and beautiful. While I’m still on my journey to becoming a licensed cosmetologist, I’ve already started making an impact in my community by offering free haircuts or small beauty services for friends, family, and people in need. I believe that even the smallest act of kindness, like helping someone feel more confident through a haircut or styling their hair for a special occasion, can create a positive ripple effect. For example, I’ve often volunteered to do hair for people who might not otherwise be able to afford professional services, such as for local charity events or among my friends and family who are struggling. This allows me to practice my skills while also giving back to those who need a confidence boost. Additionally, I try to create an inclusive, welcoming space wherever I am. I know the beauty industry can sometimes be intimidating, so I’ve made it a point to be kind and approachable, offering advice or just encouraging others to embrace their natural beauty. I’ve always been someone people feel comfortable talking to, and I use that trust to share positive messages about self-love, confidence, and embracing individuality. Even though I’ve faced my own challenges with finances and trying to break into the beauty industry, I still aim to make a difference. The most important change I hope to bring to my community is a shift in how people view beauty—moving beyond societal standards and focusing on what makes each individual unique and beautiful in their own way. Once I become a licensed cosmetologist, I plan to continue giving back by offering affordable services to people in underserved areas and mentoring others who want to pursue careers in beauty but might feel discouraged by financial barriers. I believe in the power of beauty to transform not only how someone looks but how they feel, and I’m committed to being a part of that change for others. This is just the beginning, and as I continue to grow in my career, I plan to have an even larger impact on my community by using my skills, time, and resources to make people feel confident, empowered, and beautiful.

Certainly! Here’s a revised version with a bit more detail to meet the 300-word minimum: --- My career objective is to become a licensed cosmetologist and specialize in hair styling, following in the footsteps of my great grandma Beverly, who owned both a barber shop and a hair and nail salon. I’ve been passionate about the beauty industry since I was little, and it’s always been my dream to create a positive impact by helping people feel confident and beautiful. I want to make every client who sits in my chair feel like their best self, and I hope to one day open my own salon, where I can continue this mission. Cosmetology is my true passion, and I’ve always known it’s the career I want to pursue. However, the financial aspect of attending school has been a major obstacle for me. At 20 years old, I’m responsible for paying my own rent, car note, insurance, and anything my dog, Roxy, needs. I live paycheck to paycheck, with no financial help from family or friends, which makes it incredibly difficult to afford the costs of school. I’ve attempted to attend beauty school in the past but had to withdraw each time due to financial limitations. Despite these setbacks, I remain determined to pursue my dream of becoming a licensed cosmetologist. I believe this scholarship will provide me with the opportunity to complete my training and get my license, which is essential for starting my career in the beauty industry. Receiving this scholarship would not only ease the financial burden I face but also allow me to focus more on my studies and training without the constant stress of how I’m going to afford it. I’m truly passionate about becoming a stylist and making a positive difference in people’s lives, and this scholarship would bring me one step closer to achieving that dream.

Growing up, I was lucky enough to have my great grandma Beverly as a role model. She worked in her own barber shop and even owned a hair and nail salon next door. Watching her balance both businesses and make people feel beautiful inspired me to pursue a career in the beauty industry. For me, being a stylist is about more than just hair—it’s about making people feel confident and beautiful, inside and out. I want to create a positive, uplifting space where clients can leave feeling like their best selves. I know the impact that a great stylist can have, and I want to be that person for others, helping them feel empowered with every cut and color. This industry is my passion, and I’m excited to keep learning and growing, so I can bring joy and confidence to as many people as I can.
