Maureen C. Pace Memorial Nursing Scholarship
As a nursing student, my decision to pursue this career was deeply influenced by a personal experience that opened my eyes to the profound impact a compassionate nurse can have on patients and their families. Seeing firsthand the dedication, kindness, and skill of nurses, particularly in pediatric care, inspired me to follow this path. I have always had a passion for working with children, and I know that being a pediatric nurse will allow me to make a meaningful difference in their lives, especially during times of illness and vulnerability.
Through my education and future career, I aspire to provide high-quality, patient-centered care that goes beyond treating medical conditions. I want to be a source of comfort and reassurance for both my patients and their families. Hospital environments can be overwhelming, especially for children, and I want to create an atmosphere where they feel safe, supported, and valued. I believe that being a nurse means not only addressing physical health but also providing emotional and psychological support. Children should never feel alone or afraid in a healthcare setting, and I want to be the nurse who helps them feel secure and cared for during difficult times.
The impact I hope to make in my community extends beyond the hospital. I want to be an advocate for children’s health and well-being by educating families and promoting preventative care. Many illnesses and complications can be minimized or prevented with proper education and access to resources, and I hope to empower parents with the knowledge they need to keep their children healthy. Additionally, I want to be a role model for future nurses, demonstrating the importance of empathy, integrity, and dedication in healthcare. By building strong relationships with my patients and their families, I hope to foster a sense of trust and support within my community.
The values that Maureen exemplified—compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication, are qualities I strive to uphold in my journey as a nursing student and future pediatric nurse. I will carry forward her legacy by treating every patient with kindness and respect, advocating for their needs, and continuously striving to provide the best possible care. Nursing is more than just a profession to me; it is a calling to serve, heal, and uplift others in their times of need.
As I continue my studies, I am committed to learning and growing, knowing that each experience brings me closer to becoming the nurse I aspire to be. I look forward to the day when I can step into a hospital as a pediatric nurse, ready to make a lasting impact in the lives of my patients and their families.
Dr. Michael Paglia Scholarship
I chose to pursue nursing, specifically pediatric nursing in a hospital setting, because of a personal experience that deeply impacted me. Nursing has always stood out to me as a field built on compassion, dedication, and the ability to make a real difference in people’s lives. My own experience inspired me to follow this path, knowing that I want to be a source of comfort and healing for children and their families. I believe that working in pediatrics will allow me to provide not just medical care but also emotional support to young patients who need reassurance during difficult times.
A hospital can be an overwhelming place for children, and I want to help make their experience as positive as possible. I know that pediatric nurses play a crucial role in creating a caring and supportive environment for both patients and their families. I want to be the kind of nurse who not only treats a child’s illness or injury but also helps ease their fears and makes them feel safe. My goal is to bring a sense of warmth and understanding to every child I care for, helping them heal both physically and emotionally.
I chose pediatric nursing over a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) setting because I want to work more broadly with children rather than in a high-intensity, specialized environment. While I admire the work NICU nurses do, I am more drawn to the variety that pediatric nursing offers. I love the idea of caring for children at different stages of development, from infants to teenagers, and addressing a wide range of health concerns. Whether treating common childhood illnesses, assisting with chronic conditions, or helping a child recover after surgery, I want to be there to provide the care and support they need.
In the future, I plan to use my nursing degree to work in a hospital, where I will have the opportunity to gain experience with different pediatric cases and work alongside a dedicated medical team. Hospitals offer a fast-paced and challenging environment, but they also provide the best setting for me to make an impact on children’s health. I see myself working in a general pediatric unit, where I can care for a diverse range of patients, but I am also open to exploring specialties such as pediatric emergency care or oncology. No matter where I end up, my goal remains the same—to provide compassionate, high-quality care to children and make a meaningful difference in their lives.
Becoming a pediatric nurse is more than just a career choice for me; it is a calling. I am passionate about helping children heal and supporting their families through difficult times. I know that this path will be both challenging and rewarding, and I am excited to dedicate my life to making a positive impact in pediatric healthcare.
Dick Loges Veteran Entrepreneur Scholarship
Growing up with a veteran parent has profoundly influenced my educational journey and career aspirations, ultimately guiding me toward a career in nursing. My dads military service instilled in me a deep sense of discipline, resilience, and compassion—values that are essential in both military service and the nursing profession. Watching him dedicate his life to serving others, often putting the needs of his country and fellow service members above his own, inspired me to choose a career where I could make a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
One of the most significant ways my dads military service has shaped my journey is through the work ethic and sense of responsibility he instilled in me from an early age. The military lifestyle demands structure, discipline, and adaptability, and these qualities became a core part of my upbringing. Whether it was maintaining a strict schedule, setting goals, or learning to persevere through challenges, my dad always emphasized the importance of hard work and determination. These lessons have been invaluable in my nursing education, where long hours of studying, clinical rotations, and hands-on training require persistence and dedication.
Beyond discipline, my dads service also exposed me to the unique medical challenges that veterans face, which further inspired me to pursue nursing. Throughout my life, I have seen firsthand the physical and mental health struggles that many veterans endure, from combat-related injuries to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This exposure deepened my empathy and strengthened my desire to work in healthcare, particularly in areas like trauma nursing or veteran healthcare, where I can directly support those who have sacrificed so much for our country. Knowing that I can play a role in helping veterans recover, heal, and regain their quality of life is one of my greatest motivations.
My dad’s military service also presented challenges that shaped my resilience and adaptability—qualities that are crucial in the nursing profession. Frequent relocations, long deployments, and the uncertainty that comes with military life taught me how to adapt to new environments and overcome adversity. These experiences have made me more flexible, resourceful, and emotionally strong, all of which are necessary traits for a successful nurse. Additionally, growing up in a military household exposed me to a strong sense of teamwork and leadership. I often saw my dad work closely with others, lead in high-pressure situations, and remain calm under stress. These qualities have influenced how I approach nursing, where teamwork, critical thinking, and staying composed in challenging situations are essential.
Ultimately, my dads military service has not only shaped my character but has also reinforced my passion for nursing. His dedication to service has inspired me to follow a path where I, too, can make a difference in the lives of others. Nursing is more than a career to me—it is a calling, one that allows me to embody the same values of dedication, compassion, and sacrifice that my dad demonstrated throughout his military career.
Pangeta & Ivory Nursing Scholarship
From a young age, I have been drawn to the idea of making a tangible difference in people’s lives, and nursing provides the perfect opportunity to do so. My passion for nursing stems from a deep desire to provide compassionate care and support to individuals during their most vulnerable moments. This passion was ignited when a close family member experienced a serious illness. The nurses who cared for them were not only highly skilled but also compassionate and empathetic. They brought comfort to my family during an incredibly challenging time, and their dedication left an indelible mark on me. Watching their combination of technical expertise and emotional support inspired me to pursue a career where I could have a similarly meaningful impact on others.
I began working as a clerk in a hospital where I witnessed firsthand the critical role nurses play in the healthcare system. Whether it was providing hands-on care, educating patients about their health, or simply offering a kind word to someone in need, the nurses I worked with showed me how multifaceted this profession truly is. My clerk experiences deepened my understanding of the field and affirmed my desire to join it.
What excites me most about nursing is the unique blend of science and human connection it offers. It is a profession that requires not only technical knowledge but also empathy, communication skills, and the ability to adapt quickly in high-pressure situations. I am particularly drawn to labor and delivery, mother and baby, along with NICU as I feel it aligns with both my strengths and my interests.
I also believe that nursing is about advocacy and education. Nurses are often the bridge between patients and the healthcare system, ensuring that individuals receive equitable and compassionate care. I want to be that advocate for my patients, empowering them to take charge of their health and well-being.
Earning this scholarship would be a tremendous step forward in my journey to becoming a nurse. It would allow me to focus on my education and clinical training without the burden of financial stress, enabling me to dedicate myself fully to learning the skills and knowledge I need to excel in this field. Ultimately, my goal is to use my education and experiences to give back to my community and provide the kind of care that inspired me to pursue this path. I am committed to becoming a skilled and compassionate nurse, contributing to the well-being of individuals and my community.
