Sandy Jenkins Excellence in Early Childhood Education Scholarship
Hi. My name is Amari and I am a sophomore at Alabama A&M University majoring in Early Childhood Education. My passion came from my Grandmother she is now on her 25th year of teaching and she inspired me to go into education because I just loved how she taught and how she influenced students to do better. I had the greatest opportunity for her to be my teacher and ever since then I always said I wanted to be just like her. Early childhood education occupies a unique place in my heart, not only as a job but also as a genuine dedication to building the foundation of society. This motivation comes from a combination of personal experiences, academic research, and a strong belief in the transforming power of early interventions. In this essay, I hope to explain the multiple reasons for my strong commitment to early childhood education. Firstly, my enthusiasm for early childhood education comes from a deep knowledge of its importance in human development. A child's formative years serve as the foundation for the rest of their life. During this time, young minds are extremely open to learning, and the experiences they have shape their mental, social, emotional, and physical development. As an educator, I am motivated by the opportunity to provide a supportive environment in which children can develop and realize their full potential. Also, my passion for early childhood education comes from a desire to address systemic injustices and build a fairer society. Studies repeatedly show that access to high-quality early childhood education can close the performance gap, and promote long-term academic success. By ensuring that all children, regardless of their economic background, have access to quality early learning experiences, we can set the framework for a more equitable and inclusive society. In addition, my interest in early childhood education comes from the joy and wonder that comes with working with young children. It's incredibly fascinating to observe preschoolers' curiosity, creativity, and limitless imagination as they explore their surroundings. Every day brings fresh discoveries and opportunities for progress, and I am constantly fascinated by the fundamental resilience and energy of young students. Additionally, I am passionate about early childhood education because I believe in promoting total growth and nurturing the whole kid. In addition to academic skills, early childhood education emphasizes the value of social-emotional learning, character development, and physical health. We encourage children to become confident, empathetic, and strong people capable of navigating the challenges of the modern world by providing them with a complete education that addresses their entire needs. My interest in early childhood education comes from an understanding of the tremendous effect that early experiences have on long-term outcomes. the early years of life are crucial for brain development, and the quality of early childhood education programs can have long-term effects on mental abilities, social skills, and even future earning potential. By investing in high-quality early childhood education, we can set children up for success and help them reach their full potential. Finally, I am passionate about early childhood education because I believe it has the transforming capacity to impact the future. Early childhood education has the power to alter people's lives and build a better society by providing loving surroundings, equal access, pleasant experiences, full growth, and lifetime benefits. As an upcoming educator, I am honored to be involved in this essential work and will continue to advocate for the needs of young children everywhere.
      Delories Thompson Scholarship
My name is Amari and I see myself in my teaching career as a mentor, an advocate in addition to a teacher. My goal is to establish learning environments that are inclusive, inspiring, and supportive of students from a variety of backgrounds, encouraging them to realize their own potential. In addition to teaching knowledge, I want my students to develop creative abilities, empathy, and a feeling of social responsibility. I also see myself incorporating culturally responsive teaching approaches into my work. Being Black is a deeply personal and collective identity with a history of progressive obstacles, cultural diversity, and resilience. It's about standing up for justice and equity, appreciating the beauty of Blackness, and accepting my background. Being Black involves overcoming institutional obstacles, reclaiming historically disadvantaged narratives, and negotiating the complexity of identity. The goal is to challenge and destroy oppressive structures by forming groups with other oppressed groups and strengthening the Black community's sense of solidarity. I made a conscious decision to attend my HBCU Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University because I wanted to be a part of a community that honors Black success, encourages cultural pride, and offers a nurturing atmosphere where I can grow personally and academically. HBCUs provide a special environment in which Black students can explore their identities, grow as leaders, and create enduring relationships with classmates and mentors who have similar goals and experiences.
