I am a single mother and a disabled veteran dependent passionate about filmmaking and screenwriting, believing that storytelling can change lives. As I balance raising a child and pursuing my dreams, I aim to create films that resonate and spark conversation. I am also working toward my real estate license, which I plan to complete by August 25th. With five years of professional experience, I have developed resilience, time management, and a strong work ethic. Skills I will apply in my education and career. Pursuing my education in filmmaking will help me turn my passion into a career while being a role model for my child.
Thank you for considering my application!
Sincerely,
Amani Green

When I think about my community, I think about the voices that are often left unheard. These are young people, single mothers, low-income families, and individuals from diverse, multicultural backgrounds like mine. They are the foundation of the neighborhoods I grew up in. Their resilience, strength, and stories have shaped who I am and who I aspire to become. I am already committed to serving and uplifting them, and after college, I plan to expand that impact by focusing on storytelling, affordable housing, and youth mentorship.
Currently, I support my community in a number of ways. I work full-time as a leasing agent, helping families secure housing that is safe, affordable, and stable. This is more than just a job to me. I understand firsthand how important housing is to a family’s well-being. As a young mother, I know the difference a stable home makes in creating a sense of peace, safety, and progress. I also work alongside my mother on low-income housing development projects. She is a single mother of seven, and growing up watching her fight for our future has been one of my greatest inspirations. Together, we support projects that help low-income families get back on their feet, regain independence, and live with dignity.
After college, I plan to use what I learn to expand our housing work. I want to help design and develop affordable communities that are not only functional but also uplifting. These communities will offer support systems, access to resources, and a real chance at long-term stability for families that are often left behind in society.
In addition to my work in housing, I am also deeply passionate about storytelling. I am pursuing a career in screenwriting because I believe that stories can change the way people see the world and themselves. Representation in film matters. Too often, people from communities like mine are either misrepresented or invisible in mainstream media. I want to tell stories that are honest, powerful, and rooted in real life. My writing explores identity, culture, and resilience. I want others, especially young people from similar backgrounds, to see characters that look like them, live like them, and triumph like them. I want to remind them that their experiences are worthy of being seen and heard.
I also mentor other young parents and youth. I share resources, offer emotional support, and encourage them to continue chasing their goals, no matter what obstacles they face. In the future, I hope to expand this into a full program that combines mentorship with creative expression. I want to teach youth how to use storytelling as a tool for healing and self-empowerment, just as it has been for me.
College is not just a stepping stone for my personal dreams. It is a way for me to gain the skills and tools I need to keep showing up for my community in meaningful ways. I want every career move I make to reflect the values I was raised with: service, strength, and the belief that no one should be forgotten. My purpose is to build physical spaces through housing and emotional spaces through storytelling where people feel safe, valued, and inspired to grow.
