Hello, my name is Alyssa and I am a sophomore at Ivy Tech. I am starting my first semester for dental hygiene school this fall. I have worked in an office for about three years as an assistant and I can’t wait to start my professional journey in the dental field as a hygienist. I’m hoping to get through dental hygiene school debt free.
I’m extremely hardworking and driven to accomplish my goals. I love helping out in my community and hosting events to show off my hobbies.

Foggy thoughts
In those moments I am finally chosen first
In my memories you’ve stitched acceptance
Rewrite my being so that I continue
to indulge myself in the buttery smooth of being craved
When my legs are tangled around your neck
I forget my name isn’t “yours”
My sole purpose in those short eternities
is to feel. feel good and to feel it all
Make me die those tiny deaths again and again
Until I can accept that you really see me when you look down
From your thrown of satisfaction
Lie to me if you must and tell me that mine is
The only name you’ve ever spoken
And my lips the only ones rosy pink
How thin should I whittle my bones if I’m to fit
In the palm of your hand?
Say the word and know to me it’s a command
I’d renounce my future if I could only have now with you
You and me and a million LED lights
In that room thick with the smell of effort
Dying those tiny deaths
feeling so small and feeling so big

Choosing a career to pursue may not be as easy as one may wish to think. A number of persons have taken long to realize their ultimate careers yet some realize their potential early in life and make their career choices right away. As for me I have chosen to pursue a career in dental hygiene due to a number of convincing reasons. When I was about 10 years of age, I used to take a lot of sugary food without knowing the risk that I was putting my teeth into. I was constantly in and out of offices. This experience was to be an inspiration and a source of motivation for helping other people enhance their dental hygiene. Another huge inspiration was my aunt who also went through the dental hygiene program and helped me realize how interesting the field really is.
I have always desired to pursue a career in dental hygiene so as to enable me offer professional preventive care to the people. Having known the trouble through which the caregivers and the dental patients go through, I have braced myself for this challenging task that will see become an advocate fir dental preventive care across the states. Being a dental hygienist can be quite demanding and I am convinced that I have the necessary qualities that keep me through the profession. I am a determined, open-minded, keen on details, considerate, and a prompt readiness to act under difficult situations.
My love for this field drove me to try dental assisting first and from that I have gained so much knowledge of the field. I even got my radiation health and safety certification so I can take radiographs. But even though I loved the role of being an assistant my heart is still set on being a hygienist. In these past few years, I’ve shadowed, interned, and even worked in a few offices and with each day its made me realize how much I love this field and the joy of helping people love their smile.
