Bio

My life goals are to provide my child with an amazing, safe life filled with laughter, happiness, and love. I am passionate about graduating from college this year, in 2025. As a first-time college student in an IT role who is currently homeless, I believe I am a strong candidate for opportunities that can help me improve our situation. I am incredibly driven to create a life for my child where he doesn't have to worry about the essential necessities of life.

Dear Scholarship, I hope this message finds you well. I want to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity you have given me, especially after the challenges I've faced in recent years. I moved back to Georgia from Texas in 2023 after facing eviction due to my inability to afford rent. I left my two children, aged 13 and 14, in Texas with my sister, which has caused me daily emotional struggles due to our separation. Currently, I have my 3-year-old son with me, and it has been difficult to provide for him without any assistance. Since 2014, I have switched back and forth between my majors and am now close to completing my degree plan in Computer Support Specialist and Cybersecurity. My initial decision to change majors was prompted by a move to a different university. In 2017, I faced a family emergency that required me to relocate to Texas. Upon returning to school, I discovered that the local community college in Texas did not accept most of my completed courses from Georgia, nor did they offer the same degree plan. As a result, I switched to Cybersecurity, and I was about to graduate in Texas when I had to move back to Georgia in 2020 due to becoming homeless. Now, I am finally in a position to complete my degree. I have decided to switch back to my original degree plan, Computer Support Specialist, and I am set to graduate in 2025. I am currently at the limit of my financial aid loans, with only five classes remaining to graduate. This semester, I am taking three classes as part of my final degree plan. Unfortunately, two of my previous classes have expired because it has been more than five years since I completed them. I have the option to retake these courses or test out of them, but I cannot afford to pay out of pocket. Additionally, these are basic computer courses that I previously completed with an A. I can test out of these courses, but each test costs $80, plus additional fees of $10 per credit hour upon completion. Both courses are four credit hours, which means an additional $40 per test. Since I am at the limit of my loan amount, I have decided to pursue testing out of these courses, although I am currently unsure how I will pay for them. My primary goal is to graduate and secure a career that will enable me to return to Texas and reunite with my children, ensuring that we no longer struggle to meet our basic needs. I intend to continue pursuing a career in Cybersecurity. I am highly knowledgeable about computers, and technology feels like second nature to me. I also run a side business repairing phones, tablets, and laptops. My goal is to gain an internship before graduating and to work my way up in a company, starting in a Computer Support Specialist role. Currently, I hold several IT certifications, including A+, Hardware, PC Repair, Networking, and various Microsoft Office certifications, as well as SQL. I am also on track to obtain my Security+ certification and more before I graduate. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I deeply appreciate your support as I navigate this critical phase of my life. Sincerely, Alyssa Howard

Dear Scholarship, I hope this message finds you well. I want to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity you have given me, especially after the challenges I've faced in recent years. In 2023, I returned to Georgia from Texas after dealing with a painful eviction, which forced me to leave my two older children with my sister. Our separation has caused me emotional struggles, and currently, I have my 3-year-old son with me. Providing for him has been difficult without assistance. Since 2014, I've switched between majors and am now close to completing my degree plan in Computer Support Specialist and Cybersecurity. My journey has been tumultuous; after relocating to Texas in 2017 for a family emergency, I found that the local community college did not accept most of my previous credits from Georgia. This setback forced me to shift my focus to Cybersecurity, and just as I was about to graduate, I became homeless and had to return to Georgia. I have now decided to switch back to Computer Support Specialist, intending to graduate in 2025. I find myself at the limit of my financial aid loans, with only five classes left. This semester, I am taking three classes. Unfortunately, because it has been over five years since completing two of my prior courses, they have expired. I can retake them through testing, but the costs are prohibitive. Each test is $80, and additional fees add up quickly. My primary goal is to graduate and secure a career that will allow me to reunite with my children in Texas, alleviating our financial struggles. I have extensive knowledge of computers and run a side business repairing devices. Thank you for your time and support as I navigate this critical phase of my life. Sincerely, Alyssa Howard

Dear Scholarship, I hope this message finds you well. I want to express my deep gratitude for the opportunity you've provided me, especially as I navigate challenges in my life. In 2023, I made the tough decision to move back to Georgia from Texas after experiencing eviction due to financial difficulties. Leaving my older children behind with my sister has been emotionally challenging. Currently, I live with my youngest son, and providing for him has been a struggle without assistance. Since 2014, my academic path has been complex, with multiple major changes. I am now close to completing my degree in Computer Support Specialist and Cybersecurity. However, I've faced setbacks, including a lack of credit recognition when I transferred schools. After becoming homeless in Texas, I returned to Georgia and am now ready to graduate in 2025. I recently switched back to Computer Support Specialist and have only five classes left, but financial constraints are significant. I've reached the limits of my financial aid and need to retake or test out of two expired foundational courses. Each test costs $80, plus additional fees, which I currently cannot afford. I am determined to graduate and build a stable career, with the ultimate goal of reuniting with my children. I have several IT certifications, including A+ and Security+, and I'm eager to secure an internship to gain practical experience before graduation. Thank you for your time and consideration. Your support means a lot during this crucial phase of my life. Sincerely, Alyssa Howard

    RonranGlee Literary Scholarship
Dear Scholarship, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to convey my heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity you have provided me. It means so much to me, especially considering the challenges I've faced over the past few years. In 2023, I made the difficult decision to move back to Georgia from Texas. This move came after I experienced eviction due to financial constraints that made it impossible for me to afford my rent. Leaving behind my two older children, now aged 13 and 14, who I had to leave with my sister in Texas, has been an emotionally taxing experience. The separation from them has weighed heavily on my heart, as I strive to maintain a connection despite the distance. At present, I am living with my youngest son, who is just three years old. Providing for him has become an uphill battle, especially without assistance. Since 2014, I have navigated a complex academic journey, switching my majors multiple times. I am now on the verge of completing my degree in Computer Support Specialist and Cybersecurity. My initial choice of major was unceremoniously disrupted when I transferred to another university, which did not completely accept my previously earned credits. In 2017, a family emergency compelled me to relocate to Texas, and upon returning to school, I faced more hurdles. The community college I attended in Texas did not recognize many of the courses I had completed at my previous institution in Georgia, nor did it offer my original degree plan. Consequently, I transitioned to Cybersecurity, and just when I was about to graduate in Texas, I encountered homelessness, forcing me to come back to Georgia in 2020. Now, after all these challenges, I am finally in a position to complete my degree. I have recently decided to return to my original degree plan, Computer Support Specialist, and with determination, I am set to graduate in 2025. However, my financial situation presents significant barriers. I have reached the maximum limits of my financial aid loans, and I am approaching the end of my academic journey with only five classes remaining to graduate. This semester, I am enrolled in three classes as part of my final degree plan, but I am facing unexpected obstacles with two of my previous classes that have expired due to the elapsed time since I completed them. I have the option to either retake these courses or test out of them, but the financial burden of paying out of pocket is impractical for me at this time. Importantly, these courses are foundational computer classes that I had previously excelled in, earning an A in each. The option to test out of these courses is appealing, but each test comes with a fee of $80, plus an additional $10 per credit hour upon completion. Given that both courses comprise four credit hours, that amounts to an extra fee of $40 for each test. Currently, I am at the limit of my loan amount, prompting me to consider testing out of these courses, even though I am unsure how I will manage to pay for them. My overarching ambition is to graduate and obtain a stable career. This goal is deeply tied to my desire to return to Texas and reunite with my children, allowing us to escape the struggles that have plagued us for far too long. I am committed to forging a path in the field of Cybersecurity. My proficiency with technology comes naturally to me, and I have honed my skills by running a side business where I repair phones, tablets, and laptops. I am eager to secure an internship before my graduation to gain practical experience and to work my way up within a company, ideally starting in a Computer Support Specialist role. I am proud to hold several IT certifications, such as A+, Hardware, PC Repair, Networking, and various Microsoft Office certifications, along with SQL. I am also on track to earn my Security+ certification and other relevant credentials before graduation, further solidifying my expertise in the field. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I deeply appreciate your support as I navigate this critical phase of my life. Sincerely, Alyssa Howard

I have almost died more than 2 times since starting college in 2012. I have 3 kids. 2 were born in 2010, and 2011 and were taken from me by the state of Georgia because their father beat me. No matter how much I tried I could not get them back into my care. I fought so hard. Did all the tests in Atlanta(2 hours away one way), did all the classes, took everything they asked(drug test, screens, test, classes), and didn't miss a visit. DFCS still claimed that my children formed a bond with the foster care lady. We went to court weekly sometimes more. I also maintained a job, visitations, and schooling. I then had my mother attempt to get them out of foster care. The courts requested my mother to cut all ties with me to get my kids. And she did just that(which was so brutal in this time of need the kids were 1 and 6 months old) and still was not granted my kids due to the bond with the foster care lady. Finally, I got a lawyer for my sister and so my sister got them eventually after a couple of months of court. they now live with her in Texas for the past 10 years. I moved to Texas shortly after she adopted my children. I was there for 10 years and now I am back in Georgia. I started college in 2012 after my children were born. I then had to go on a break when I moved to Texas. I didn't transfer because out-of-state tuition is so high. To not pay out-of-state tuition you have to live in that state for at least a year. I got a good job in Texas and took a break from school to focus on my kids. I rented out a garage at some random guy's house. My life was ok, until covid. I lost my job at Marriott call center due to hotel shutdowns and also found out I was pregnant. I ended up getting unemployment for a year and then was able to finally go back to school to finish my degree. I was in Austin Community College in Austin tx for a while until last April. My child's father almost killed me and I had to leave the state to get help with the baby. I went back to Texas. I had my own apartment in my name that I was so proud of. After I was back in Texas in May, it took until August for me to get evicted because my child's father kept trying to kick the door down or fire shots outside or just all around be so loud and scared people that lived in my building. After so many complaints I got evicted. I moved back to Georgia with my grandma where I am so ungodly miserable. I now have a child, 3 years old, by a stray cat of a father who is currently in prison for beating me up and almost killing me. I fled back to Georgia to finally finish college and be able to provide my children with basic needs. I have worked my butt off to finally finish my degree. I want my older girls to know nothing can stop you but you also that you don't need a man to complete your goals or live your life. where it is nice and needed in so many ways. But can be done if the outcome is not good for the children's physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
