Bio

Thank you for taking the time to read my bio. My name is Alyssa Habner, and I am a recent nurse practitioner graduate with goals to improve the quality of life for those I encounter through empowerment and education. I've been a registered nurse since August 2017 and am passionate about holistic health care. After volunteering at a food bank in high school for several years, I decided to pursue nursing. I knew I needed to help others in an even more meaningful way; by healing their bodies and minds. After working as an RN, I realized I could contribute by becoming a nurse practitioner. I am lucky for the experiences I've had in healthcare. Multiple hospitals, elderly living communities, a federally qualified health center, and two private health organizations have shown me the value and gratitude in healing. I've floated to over 25 clinics with numerous specialties and learned that an eagerness to learn and help others would take you far. My love of healing has pushed me to further my education. My passion has made me driven and continued to help me succeed as a student and nurse. The future of nursing and my part in it excites me to become a better nurse, provider, and mentor. Getting to know patients' stories and lives makes me want to help them even more. Patients' reactions when they have positive outcomes or feel like themselves again are heartwarming. While the unfortunate moments are also part of this field, we grieve together and become stronger and better health care providers.

    Bold Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
As an individual diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, and depression and a health care professional, the solution to help those who struggle with mental health issues is counseling. I’ve found a form of peace talking to someone who isn't in my immediate situation, does not know my family or my partner, and provides their unbiased perspective on my situation. A counselor encourages you to look deeper into the reasons for your feelings and not to try to disregard your feelings because someone else told you to. Counselors, or mental health providers, went into this profession to help those like us, to help us cope with our daily struggles, which seem too overwhelming to think about all at once. I hope this will help someone one day because communication about those feelings is freeing and can lead to healing.
