Bio

Hello, my name is Alyssa Garcia. I am a senior at The University of Texas at San Antonio. I am studying at the Klesse College of Engineering to receive my Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering. I was on the Dean's List for Fall 2021 and Honor Roll for Spring 2022. I am also glad to say that I am an active member for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). One of my biggest goals in life is to inspire other minorities to get involved in other areas of STEM. Some of my skills include Python, MATLAB, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Excel. I am currently involved in three undergraduate research projects related to corrosion engineering. As an undergraduate researcher with a focus on corrosion, I conduct various aqueous electrochemical experiments on metals and observe their corrosion rate. I am also working on a project with the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research. The project aims to develop a prototype device for automating the application of windlass-style tourniquets, addressing challenges in consistency and device stability. As a child of a United States Marine, I hold this project deep to my heart because I understand the sacrifices veterans make. One of my lifetime goals and commitments is to innovate and engineer solutions that directly improve the lives of veterans and this project is one of many contributions I aspire to make.
