The most influential person in my life is, and always has been, my mother, Kristen. My mom has been an inspiration to my brother and me. She is a single mom, who has demonstrated to us the value of an education and hard work. Our mom has taught us morals, values and manners. It hasn't been easy for her, but she has strived to instill in us a strong work ethic. She tells us, “Nothing is free, you have to work for what you consider valuable in life". My mom did not raise me to be an idle person. We were raised to value what we have through having to work for it. My goal is to work in trauma and then apply to become a flight nurse. This would allow me to visit different places, but continue in the capacity of being able to assist others. I would like to be in a position of financially secure and, maybe, able to travel around the world, but other than that, my goal would still be to get a quality education beyond high school. A summer was spent in the AHEC (Area Health Education Center) Program where I was invited to assist healthcare professionals, shadow doctors and nurses, and interact directly with patients, offering comfort and support. These interactions reinforced my desire to pursue a career dedicated to serving others. The combination of my personal experiences, volunteer work, and academic pursuits has solidified my commitment to helping people in need. I am confident that with continued dedication and the support of scholarships like this one, I can make a meaningful contribution. Thank you for your consideration.

It hasn't been easy for her, but she has strived to instill in us a strong work ethic. She tells us "nothing is free, you have to work for what you consider valuable in life". My incentive to help others comes from personal experiences. For me, that turning point arrived with the long-term illness and death of family members. Armed with only the limited knowledge I have, I have had to sit back and watch as family and friends struggled with chronic illnesses. Witnessing firsthand the challenges they faced, I wanted a future where I could help them. My education has been instrumental in achieving these goals. The rigorous curriculum at Oakdale High School has equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the healthcare field. As a student at LA Tech, I want to learn about the complexities of the human body, the intricacies of disease processes, and the importance of evidence-based practices. Furthermore, my coursework will instill in me a deep sense of ethics and professionalism, preparing me to be a compassionate and responsible healthcare provider. Last summer was spent in the AHEC (Area Health Education Center) Program where I was invited to assist healthcare professionals, shadow doctors and nurses, and interact directly with patients, offering comfort and support. These interactions reinforced my desire to pursue a career dedicated to serving others in the nursing profession. These experiences provided invaluable insights into the daily struggles faced by all healthcare professionals, patients, and families. This program showed me the path I wanted my life to take. The impact of the nursing community in today’s society is more than that of sitting at someone’s bedside or giving shots. Nursing is a calling that will allow a person to make changes in the way we view community wellness. As a future healthcare provider, I see myself as an advocate of those in need, emotionally, mentally and physically – no matter the economic status. I would hope to be one who recognizes those in need and be able to treat those symptoms. My approach would be proactively advocating for those within the community to receive quality healthcare that is their right and not only reserved for those who claim easy access. Armed with use of today’s technological advances, in the healthcare system, the nursing profession can instantly connect and interface with patients, providers and pharmacies all at the touch of a button or program. Nurses have become the “face” of healthcare throughout the world. It is one of the most respected and trustworthy professions. I want to be part of that profession. I believe my community would benefit from my contributions after graduation. My journey will begin this summer. I have been offered a chance to attend a Summer 2026 Nursing Program. This program offers housing, tuition and two courses for five hundred dollars. I feel honored to have been chosen. My plan is to begin LA Tech fulltime in Fall 2026 semester. Please consider me as a viable candidate for this scholarship. Thank you for your time and your assistance.

I would hope to be one who recognizes those in need and be able to treat those symptoms. My approach would be proactively advocating for those within the community to receive quality healthcare with by using education, experience(s) and the most healing elements: compassion and the human touch. My weekly community service at this time is sitting with an elderly lady who is homebound. I have discovered that these wise people only want my time and my attention. My elderly aunt, who was diagnosed with cancer the day before Thanksgiving last year, is very weak due to the chemo injections. These two ladies, outside of school, take up my free time during the week. I would also like to believe the elderly ladies I spend time with are positively affected by my life and demeanor. I would like to think I have given back to my God and my community by spending time with these ladies. I have spent quite a bit of time observing how different members of my family have adjusted to the illness of my aunt - who is a fighter! I have noticed how my mom and grandmother, even my grandfather, make it a point to include my aunt in every activity they can. They do not allow my aunt to "give up"! This observation made a huge impact on the way I view the career path I had already chosen. I have noticed that everyone from the nurses (at the Cancer Center) to the Home Health Nurse to my family - the human touch is at the forefront of every interaction with my aunt. It has made a huge difference in her emotional attitude and physical recovery. When my aunt was first diagnosed, she was very frightened and was refusing to do the chemo, but my grandmother loaded her up and went with her to her treatments. The nurses at the Cancer Center was very hands-on and compassionate. They made sure to assure her every step of the way. I was very impressed with all of them. The Home Health nurse that does weekly visits made sure my family had her personal phone number to call whenever we had a question. Yeah, the personal human touch is very detrimental to the positive attitude and recovery of patients. In this day of everything digital - nothing can replace the softness of a compassionate, warm hand. I have seen, firsthand, the positive impact this has made on the life of my aunt. She has finished her chemo and is doing great!

I would like to think I have made a positive difference in someone's life. My father was killed in a dirt bike accident when I was only 3 years old. I was told that he had been drinking and taking drugs. I have made it a mission in my life to never, ever be involved in any situation that involved alcohol or drugs. My younger life was centered around the Girl Scouts. I started as a Daisy at five years old. I believed in what the Girl Scouts stood for - clean healthy living and giving back to the community and the world. Well, I also liked the cookies! Later years, I joined BETA. This allowed me to continue to give back to the community by participating in drives for families in need and the elderly. My church is very involved in community services - fundraising for seasonal events. I have learned to play the trombone and piano. I am in the Library Club and continue with the BETA Club and band during this senior year. I have younger siblings who I have to be a role model for. It would break my heart to see any of my brothers go the route my father took. I hope and pray the way I have lived my life thus far would have impact on the way they conduct their own lives and the paths they choose. The most influential person in my life is, and always has been, my mother, Kristen. My mom has been an inspiration to my brother and me.
