Bio

My long-term goal is to pursue a career in the medical field as a Nurse Practitioner specializing in dermatology. I have always been drawn to science, and through my volunteer experiences in healthcare settings, I discovered how meaningful it is to care for others during vulnerable moments. I hope to combine my passion for science with compassionate patient care to make a lasting difference in people’s lives. What I am most passionate about is helping others. Whether I am volunteering in my community or supporting patients in a hospital, I enjoy making people feel heard, cared for, and understood. These experiences have strengthened my desire to work in healthcare and continue serving others throughout my career. I am also naturally curious and enjoy learning, especially in science classes, where I am constantly motivated to ask questions and deepen my understanding. I believe I am a strong candidate for this scholarship because I am hardworking, resilient, and committed to achieving my goals. I have maintained strong academic performance, earning an A in all of my science courses while balancing extracurricular activities and volunteer work. I take pride in being responsible, managing my time effectively, and giving back to my community. This scholarship would help me continue pursuing my education and bring me one step closer to making a meaningful impact in the lives of others through healthcare.

Frank and Nelcie Williams Memorial Scholarship
When I envision my future, I see myself working in a healthcare setting where I can combine my love for science with my desire to serve others. I hope to become a nurse who not only provides quality care, but also represents and advocates for the communities that have shaped me. Through my education, I want to develop the compassion and confidence necessary to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my future patients. One of my greatest goals is to help marginalized communities participate fully in their healthcare. Healthcare can sometimes feel intimidating, especially when patients face barriers such as language, culture, or limited access to resources. I want to be the person who helps patients feel comfortable asking questions, understanding their treatment, and speaking up about their needs. I believe healthcare should not be something that patients simply receive but they should be able to feel empowered to understand and participate in their own care. My experiences volunteering in a hospital have strengthened this goal. As a patient care volunteer, I had opportunities to interact with patients and assist with their basic needs. Although these tasks may seem small, I learned that caring for someone involves more than medical treatment. Offering comfort, listening to someone, and making a patient feel acknowledged can have a meaningful impact. These experiences showed me that I want a career where I can make people feel cared for during some of their most vulnerable moments. Through my education, I hope to major in nursing and continue exploring my passion for science. I want to challenge myself academically while learning how the human body works and how scientific knowledge can be applied to patient care. However, I also want my education to teach me lessons that cannot be learned from a textbook. I hope to develop communication and advocacy skills that will allow me to become a stronger healthcare professional and member of my community. In the future, I envision myself giving back to the communities that have influenced who I am. I want to use my education as a bridge between healthcare professionals and patients who may feel overlooked or misunderstood. I hope to encourage patients to advocate for themselves and to remind them that their voices matter. Ultimately, my goal is not simply to earn a degree or build a career. I want my education to give me the opportunity to serve others in a meaningful way. Becoming a nurse would allow me to combine my passion for science with my passion for helping people, while creating a future in which I can give back, advocate for others, and make healthcare feel more accessible and inclusive.
Bick New Jersey Scholarship
Winner
Growing up in New Jersey has shown me the power of community. Although the state is known for its diversity, I did not fully understand what that meant until I joined NJ SEEDS, a college access program that brought together first-generation, highly motivated students from across New Jersey. For the first time, I found myself surrounded by peers who shared many of the same experiences, dreams, and challenges that I did. Instead of feeling like I had to prove that I belonged, I found a community that encouraged me to use my voice. Before joining SEEDS, I often hesitated to speak up in class. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking household, I sometimes worried that saying the wrong thing would make me stand out. Even when I had ideas to contribute, I often kept them to myself. At SEEDS, I met students from different cities and backgrounds who were equally passionate about learning. Through classroom discussions and collaborative projects, I realized that every person's perspective added value. Slowly, I began raising my hand more, sharing my ideas confidently, and believing that my voice deserved to be heard. That confidence followed me back into my own school, where I became more involved in discussions, leadership opportunities, and community service. Living in New Jersey has also given me access to healthcare professionals who changed the direction of my life. After learning that two birthmarks on my hands contained atypical, precancerous cells, I underwent a mole excision. I was nervous, but one of the nurses caring for me comforted me throughout the procedure. As a future STEM Hispanic student, seeing her practice the profession I wanted to pursue reminded me that compassionate care goes beyond medical treatment; It is about making patients feel safe, heard, and understood. Her kindness transformed one of my most frightening experiences into one that inspired me. That experience pushed my desire to pursue a degree in nursing. I hope to become the kind of healthcare professional who not only provides excellent medical care but also offers reassurance during moments of uncertainty. This scholarship would help me turn my passion for science and patient care into a lifelong career serving communities across New Jersey. Just as New Jersey has given me opportunities, support, and a sense of belonging, I hope to center my future goals to improving the lives of others through compassionate, patient-centered care.
