Bio

Hello! My name is Al’viance Butler, and I am a freshman at Southeastern Louisiana University majoring in nursing. I’m very forward, compassionate, and determined. I love volunteering in communities to get out the knowledge of health. I want everyone to know how important it is to keep their health on track and repeatedly check. I participate with Crescent Care to help learn the importance of getting tested for many things within their life span and support the lgbtq+ that it’s ok and a safe place. As of today, I have my patient care technician and medical assistant certifications. Thank you.

I have dreamed of being in healthcare since I was a little girl. Once before, I aspired to become an OBG/YN, and now I aspire to be a registered Nurse. After deep diving and researching about ob-gyn and what they really do, I just decided it wasn't for me; I wanted more. When learning about nursing, I ran across many articles and documents on black women and men not being taken seriously in healthcare. It saddened me that people had a mindset that black people couldn't feel the same pain as white people. Many had gotten these mindsets from all the way to the 1800s when surgeries were being done on enslaved people without any anesthesia, and they'd still live. Many black women died during birth because they weren't provided any meds or the right amount for pain. This again saddened my soul! As a black woman, after knowing this, I want to help and be the reason black people can walk into a hospital or clinic with confidence they'll make it out safe and treated respectfully. The most crucial characteristic in nursing is being patient. I'll 1000% always believe that. Many need more patience nursing comes with, and that's the main reason why many bash nursing or look at it as a stressful profession. I have all the patience in the world to work this job and never get tired of it, but being realistic, everyone gets tired of working. It's life, but this is a job you can still go to and work and be happy that you're helping people. You'll get a good outcome when you love your job. Being able to change my patients, listen to them, deal with their mood swings and aggression, and provide emotional support to my patients and their families is something I can do! Something I want to do! This money will go directly towards my tuition to help improve my chances of completing my first semester of college. My thought process and determination for wanting this degree set me apart from the other candidates. The ability to answer these questions straightforwardly and without hesitation proves that I deserve this scholarship. My reasoning for becoming a nurse is to understand better why I need this scholarship. With my college education this'll allow me to make my dreams come true and make the world a safer space even if it's small. My dedication can and will inspire others to think the same way or similar. Maybe after I get my bachelors degree I'll go back and get my masters. Open my own clinic that'll help people in neighborhoods that're less fortunate and don't have enough funds to keep themselves safe and healthy. We future nurses will make it more comfortable to go to hospitals and clinics. My community as a whole will fill the reinforcements that i'll do on it. I will do this. I will accomplish this.

    Anime Enthusiast Scholarship
The all time best chill anime ever Saiki K. Many may call it mid but in my eyes it's the best. I can watch it repeatedly and never get tired of it. The way Kusuo mind controls everything is just awesome. He can control natural disasters, a literal psychic, his teleportation is such a cool thing to have, like imagine ever being bored!? You can literally just teleport to hawaii or mexico, and in my opinion he's a very neutral and nonchalant person. I can relate to him on the nonchalant part, it's very rare to show emotion. Also, he LOVES coffee jelly and it influenced me to try it and yeah… it wasn't very good how he portrays it. The show is extremely funny also, the parents are so absent minded it's hilarious. I can watch it during any task. Sometimes it be a lil hard watching anime shows in its original language but with this show it’s not. No problem ever comes up. My addiction to this how is crazy, I brought a mini pillow of Kusuo and the antlers that give him his powers. No one can make me dislike this show. It’s too wholesome to dislike.

    Etherine Tansimore Scholarship
My name is Al’viance Butler, and I'm from New Orleans, Louisiana. Home to the BEST crawfish and jazz music. I attended Eleanor Mcmain Secondary High School and am a senior. I plan on attending Southeastern Louisiana University and earning my Bachelors of science in nursing. Growing up was traumatizing, but it never stopped my passion to help others, it definitely made it stronger. My father died when I was 8. It wasn't easy for a young girl who was a “Daddy's girl”, but with my mother I didn't always feel lonely or out of place. He was killed due to gun violence, and you'd think, since I was so young I wouldn't understand, but gun violence in New Orleans is so terrible. We’re named the second-highest state for gun violence. Im the oldest sibling out of my mother's 4 children and I always knew what was going on. I knew when she had to work two jobs, I knew when she was struggling yet seemed to always get us whatever we wanted, I knew everything. Even when it's just my mother caring for us, she still makes it happen. By herself. From the age of 12, I always wanted to grow up and become an OBGYN. I literally had my mind set on it. I've made presentations and many more. I always had a mind that was curious and make me want to know more about certain things and once I was intrigued, I deepened my knowledge of thought. That brought me to the medical field. During Covid and quarantine, I found my passion for nursing. I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field and nursing took over my passion for being an OBGYN. I found many documents displaying how black women were always treated unfairly within the hospital. They were never treated seriously and it caused many deaths. There was even a document on how black women felt no pain compared to white women that came all the way from slavery times. This pushed me even more. I want to help, I want to be that person that my people can trust and feel safe with. This scholarship can help me in any type of way to purse my goal. Becoming a nurse ti help my people feel understood and safe! Make everyone feel safe when they step inside a hospital. Thank you for reading about my goal and who I am!
